Thanks for understanding and for helping to keep XDA neat and tidy!
mine says enforcing. So how do I get the permissive? I downloaded it but you say not to install it until after the modem and rom. So... ?

Still says enforcing after flashing permissive kernel?
So I was on nh7 prior. Flashed the modem file in Odin.
Went into twrp 2.8.3.. wiped. Installed rom, then kernel, then booted into system. Wifi didn't work.
Any suggestions? Do I need to wipe dalvik after the kernel install?
Thanks...

Try reflash rom, sometimes it does not take the first time.
Pp.
No Wifi for me either. Barely even flinches when I click it.
SGH-M919 on 4.2.2 stock rooted -> Update via latest CWM = soft brick (stuck on Samsung boot screen)
-> 4.2.2 stock via Odin -> installed TWRP recovery -> installed your posted 4.4.4 NK2 ROM = no wifi
-> installed posted NK2 Modem -> installed posted kernel = still no wifi
-> Reverted back to 4.2.2 via backup + NK2 modem= regained wifi
Hopefully the datapoint will help. Thanks though

It's the kernel causing it. Don't know why. Keep the stock kernel or flash a different one. No one has provided a log cat with errors

Pardon my noobishness, but I always follow the guides and normally install w/e I am told. How can I revert to the stock kernel? I originally tested after flashing your custom ROM, and before the new kernel and it still didn't work.
Received a replacement S4 from SquareTrade today (last one broke), and it shipped with stock 4.4.4/NK2. Can I just flash this ROM/firmware in Odin? Or did I have to be rooted already?
You suppose to flash twrp recovery in Odin. Then flash this rom in twrp.

You need to root with cf-autoroot in Odin first. Then Odin whichever recovery you prefer.

The one on Chainfire's site only says it's for NH7. I'm on NK2, is that one still fine?
I should know this...it's just been a while lmao. Thanks

Be fine. Or just skip cf auto and flash a recovery, flash supersu package, or flash recovery and flash a rom. Cf auto root is a waste of time if you're just gonna flash a recovery

Awesome. Thought I needed to root before flashing a custom recovery. So the only difference is my Knox counter will be tripped right? Oh, and the SGH-M919's boot loader is unlocked by default as well, correct?

Cool. Thanks again, man.
Is there a unrestricted hotspot hack I can flash with this rom?
I'd like an answer to this too if anyone knows.
I'm on an MDL bootloader with NK2 baseband.
Hey all. I'm not sure this is the right thread but I do believe it's related. I've posted similar questions in other threads so bear with me if you've read some of this before. I'm just having trouble getting responses...lol. So, I'm trying to help a friend who bought an s4 and hooked it up with metro pcs. After he got it connected, he brought it to me. I used odin to flash oudhs recovery and then I flashed the sickness rom (the guy I'm helping ONLY wants unrestricted tethering, btw). The rom would not boot--stuck at boot screen. I then tried wiping everything in recovery and restoring the stock (which I had backed up, of course). That will not boot either (ugh). So, I now plan to use Odin to flash the stock .tar. I found one here in the forums BUT then I found another stock .tar in the Metro PCS thread. I'm not sure which I should flash--I'm leaning towards the Metro one since the guy IS on metro (if someone knows better, please let me know).
Question now is, after I flash the stock .tar, what is the SIMPLEST way to unrestrict the guy's tethering (if possible)? I'd REALLY appreciate a little help. Even if it's just pointing me to a thread that might help. Also, if anyone can explain why the Sickness wouldn't boot, that might help as well.
Thanks in advance!

Shabby's cwr is so extremely out of date. You need to use newer recoveries. I prefer twrp.
If you look in my nh7 stock base thread or my afh account you'll find a tethering mod for tmos nh7 which should work on metros nk2

So I'm by no means super knowledgable with this stuff but I've rooted a few phones, played around with CM on my old evo but for the most part I enjoy rooted stock.
I have Galaxy S3 Sprint 4.3 updated OTA from a rooted (4.1.2). When I took the OTA I lost root, no big deal I used Odin and flashed the CF auto root, it said it removed knox and I had root back. Cool!
In short 4.3 sucked, wanted to downgrade back so things like TrevE mod would work again and it wouldn't be so buggy. I tried to use odin to flash "KIES_HOME_L710VPBMD4_L710SPRBMD4_1130792_REV03_user_low_ship.tar.md5" but it gave me the "Use Kies Recovery and error occured" message.
So I then used odin and flashed TWRP and my phone booted.
I'm back on 4.3 rooted.
I've tried picking through the forums and interwebz for answers but I get mixed messages and info on international versions and what not.
I'm tired of trying to figure it out and really could use some help downgrading back to 4.1.2
Thanks,
Brandon

The 4.3 OTA installed a locked bootloader, which will prevent you from ODIN'ing back to a previous version. you can flash any ROM you would like from recovery, you CANNOT downgrade the bootloader. As of right now, if you have knox, you are stuck with it.
You are extremely lucky that you didn't brick your phone by using odin to flash a non-4.3 tar. I wouldnt try again.
My advice is, remain rooted with a custom recovery, and find a ROM to your liking, and flash that.
I have also heard that we cannot flash custom kernels on the knox (MK3) bootloader as well, but I havent verified that.

Thank you for the response. Is CyanogenMod an option then? If I go to CM could I flash back a stock 4.3 rom in the future?
As an added bonus question does CM allow wifi tethering?
Again thank you for the response.

CM is certainly an option. In fact, its what i am running now. CM11 12-24. Runs great. You can always odin the stock mk3 tar and go back to stock unrooted, at any time.
in order to flash cm11 you MUST be on TWRP 2.6.3.1 or CWM 6.0.4.5 or newer or the assert check will fail.
not sure on the tethering, but im pretty sure it definitely works on cm10.2 and i think it does on 11 as well, but dont quote me on that.

Tethering is available on CM11 just like it was on 10.2; would strongly recommend latest Philz Touch Recovery over either TWRP or CWM though. Although it is based on CWM, it has proven to be pretty much the superior recovery option for flashing any Android build number, plus it is highly customizable.
Philz Touch Recovery
this is how to downgrade

Do you realize that this thread hasn't been used in a couple of months? I would assume the author has no more need of advice based on the inactivity. Also, once Knox is installed, it is on the phone to stay. PERIOD. NO DOWNGRADING POSSIBLE VIA ODIN. Custom ROMs of any build are fine via custom recovery, but any attempt to change the bootloader will trigger Knox and brick the phone. Dangerous info to be posting here, especially since someone else who doesn't know better might try this.
In an attempt keep thread questions down to a minimum and let it be used for development specific questions. I ask that you post general update questions here. I will keep this updated as best I can.
1. Q: How do I update to official T-Mobile release?
A: You can go back to stock and accept the OTA. Or you can download the Update.zip HERE . There are other links from Tesh and Allenjthomsen on their individual threads. (thanks Allen for the update.zip and Dirtybudha for the ftp server)
2. Q: Should I flash the update so I can have the new bootloader?
A: At this time we are waiting for the release of more custom kernels and there are 2 recoveries that will work with the new bootloader
3. Q: Can I go back to 4.3 once I flash?
A: If you flash the new bootloader, you will not be able to odin back to use 4.3 roms. But you can custom flash 4.3 with new Mi7 bootloader and kernels made for that purpose.
4. Q: If I update my N3 will I still have root?
A: At this time, you can gain root using CF-Auto root, but you will lose custom recovery
5. Q: Will flashing the update trip Knox if I originally rooted using De-La Vega?
A: No, flashing the update will simply update your phone to 4.4.2. But trying to flash a custom recovery will trip Knox to 0x1. kingoapp.com does not work as per a user that tried it
6. Q: Can I load TMO Kit Kat without updating bootloader?
A: Yes. You can flash any rom.zip from the dev thread using custom 4.3 Kit Kat Kernels that allow 4.4.2 to run off the 4.3 bootloader.
7. Q: Are there any TMO Kit Kat kernels already in circulation?
A: . Yes. Check the Original Android Development thread.
8. Q: I tried flashing the new posted Odexed and Deodexed roms but get stuck at boot. What's wrong?
A: The new boot.img (Kernel) included in these roms are based off the Kit Kat kernel release. They will not work on the 4.3(Jellybean MI7) bootloader unless you usea custom kernel
9. Q: After I update to official release, how do I get root back?
A: You will need to ODIN CF-Autoroot once you have updated. WARNING: YOU WILL TRIP KNOX USING CF-AUTOROOT
10. Q: Has anyone found a custom recovery that works with the NB4 Bootloader?
A: Yes, it has been noted that Philz recovery and the N9005 TWRP is being tested as per BigBiff's recommendation and is noted as working.
11. Q: Can I flash just the bootloader and the modem?
A: Yes, but you will have compatibilty issues unless you flash one of the two Kit Kat compatible recoveries.
12. Q: I Odined the NB4 file and my phone just sits at black screen with blue recovery on it. Did I do something wrong?
A: NO, there seems to be a glitch in the Odin process. Reboot your phone into download mode and re-Odin the file and it will complete successfully.
13 Q: I have read that there is a way to root Kit Kat without tripping Knox. Is this true?
A: Yes, there is a process that can be used but is not recommended as you can brick your phone and my not be able to recover from the brick.
Kit Kat Kernels :
Wootevers Kernel (TMO Original Android Development thread)
Civato's Kernel (N9005 Original Android Development Thread)
ColonelX R13 (CURRENTLY BEING BUILT AND TESTED)
If anybody see's a Frequently asked question i'm missing. please let me know. Trying to keep up with all 4 threads.
Thanks
If you use the official update, you will get the extSDCard read/write errors back, as they are part of Kit Kat .
to fix, once rooted on the official rom, Open the platform.xml file just like in the custom Kit Kat roms and make it look like this
Code:
<permission name="android.permission.WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE">
<group gid="sdcard_r"/>
<group gid="sdcard_rw"/>
<group gid="media_rw"/>
</permission>
That "SHOULD" fix the read/write problems. Kit Kat is made to only read and write to the internal storage to keep Android running smoothly as people sometimes by cheap laggy sdcards.

I think the big one is people looking for clarification on whether the bootloader is locked or not.
I see a lot of conflicting posts. Mainly from those who don't understand kernel dependencies as they pertain to the boot process.

That we cannot confirm until Biff gets home and has had a chance to compile a kernel specifically for this bootloader.

if you know how to use the tar file yes. Everything else you are spot on.
Although I've seen some ask this question, I would like some clarification as there is still some conflicting info being spread throughout 4 or 5 threads
From what I gather:
The new 4.4 bootloader now has custom recovery through use of either the TWRP biff posted or the new PhilZ. Both confirmed working.
My question is, does this affect us now being able to custom flash 4.3 roms without having to Odin back to 4.3 just to flash 4.3 roms...if that even is something that is 100% true that we can do since some people say yes we can odin back to 4.3 and some say no.
And with the new bootloader, we should theoretically be able to flash all of the custom 4.4 N9005 ROMs just fine?

So, I have a NB4 SM N900T. I rooted with cfautoroot, then installed Phillz Touch CWM, then made a full backup. After I rooted and installed a custom recovery, I was getting that recovery not SEANDROID enforcing/Kernel Warranty error on Boot. I then flashed Hyperdrive and used it for a few weeks. Today I wiped everything, and restored that nandroid backup to bring it back to stock NB4 because I cannot seem to get LTE to work to save my life.
Anyhow, now I see that NF4 is out.
With stock NB4, I'm no longer getting that error. It's still rooted, etc after the backup was restored.
What I would like to know is what would be the best way for me to get the NF4 update without messing up my root/Knox?
I can use ODIN, but if someone could just be a little more specific that would be great.
I downloaded N900TUVUDNF4_N900TTMBDNF4_N900TUVUDNF4_HOME.tar.md5
and Cfautoroot from another thread...
I think I'm going to stay with the stock ROM until I figure out this LTE issue... I am on Straight Talk AT&T (Using Hyperdrive ROM) and get plain 4G and someone with the same phone- stock NB4 and ATT go service standing 2 feet away gets 4Glte. 15mbs+ speeds, while I'm under 5mbs.
Sorry, kinda all over the place here...
Anyhow, thanks for any help everyone.

If you have installed any custom recovery like cwm/twrp you have
already tripped knox and there is no way to fix it so you may as well
simply flash whatever firmware and or custom rom you like.
Flashing/installing any custom recovery trips knox.
Good luck!
Fixed LTE issues. Threw away Straight Talk, Picked up AT&T.
Ok, so I'm considering staying on Stock ROM but my NB4 (RAC Build) N900T has no OTA update from Samsung...
So, am I able to just flash straight from NB4 to NF4? Will I lose root?

Yes you will loose root however if you simply flash cf-autoroot after
flashing the official N900T NF4 firmware you will have root again.

Here is the direct download link for the official N900T NF4 firmware:

You're welcome for the firmware link.
I asked you nicely in pm to link to my thread instead of stealing my links, but since you ignored that, be prepared to have me comment on your posts where you try to pass them off as your own, or at least fail to attribute.
I appreciate that you want to help others, but please attribute links and/our abide by the posters requests when they ask you.

You can, but just be aware that Mobile Odin cannot flash bootloaders, so if you're just looking to go straight up, you can either follow the directions in post #2 of this link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/not...900tuvudnf4-extracted-stock-firmware-t2834398 or use desktop odin.
If you want to do it all in one shot, desktop odin is your best bet. Just power your device down for about 15-30 seconds (or power off using power menu and battery pull for a bout 10 seconds), then boot straight into download mode (this helps ensure the modem and bootloader stick), and flash the full package in the AP (or PDA) slot of desktop odin.

Can I flash the root666 T999_UVUEMJC (or even the stock) firmware on top of stock T999_UVUENC2 without bricking the phone? I got the latest T999_UVUENC2 OTA update and my wifi won't work anymore . Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

cf-auto root, or flash SuperSU with custom recovery.
T999LUVUBNF4 Root
Hey, I've been trying to root my S3 running the T999LUVUBNF4 firmware, but I'm having trouble. Towelroot doesn't support it, I haven't seen anything about a Root66, and I've heard mixed reports on CF-auto root. Does anyone know if there is a workable solution yet? How would I go about flashing SuperSU? Thanks.
Okay I've recently just flashed the root66 firmware that gave me supersu and all that.
My question is... Where do i go from here?
How would i proceed to
1) Install TWRP?, which version as well? Is 2.8 d2tmo fine? Can i have some instructions whether i use TWRP manager(goomanager doesn't seem to exist anymore) or do i have to go into download and flash through odin 3.09?
2) Installing a custom rom? I want to install Paranoid Android 4.6 beta 5 for D2lte but i'm not sure how to go about it. I have already downloaded the rom itself but not sure how to proceed from here. Also, how would i get the working and latest version of Gapps? (Also, can you tell me how to install Cyanogenmod 11 for d2lte as well?)
3) What are some cool apps to get?
4) Which root apps/roms/softwares will brick my phone? I'm never sure which thing will work and which won't.
5) how do i install xposed?
6) How do i remove all the bloatware? and how would i got about flashing through my phone without using the computer? is mobile odin compatible with my phone?
My phone is the SGH-T999L and i have no idea if i have a locked bootloader and how i would go about and bypass the limitations of this locked bootloader

Rooting SGH-T99L with T999LUVUBNF4
I've read most of the more recent posts, and it is still unclear to me how to root my T999L which is already on the T999LUVUBNF4 baseband and build. I've seen references to cf-auto-root (like serio22 above), but the T999 (which I believe works for T999L) is based on T999UVALEM, which is 4.0.4 ICS. I certainly don't want to downgrade that far. The latest firmware on the first page of this Root66 thread is T999L_UVUBNC1, and there was a post indicating better reception with the newer modem, so I'd rather not downgrade that either. If I flash T999L_UVUBNC1 will my baseband remain intact (BNF4)? Or should I wait for a pre-rooted T999L_UVUBNF4? Or is there a better way altogether to root my T999L/BNF4?
Also, for other n00bs reading this, it's pretty clear that towelroot doesn't work on BNF4.
Thanks!!

rooted Windmobile 4.4.4
anyone have 4.4.? for wind mobile what ever is the new one stock that is rooted ?
I tried flashing UVDLJC - UVDMD5 (latest OTA update) using Multiboot Recovery v2.2 - (twrp2.8.3.0)
When flashing directly onto blank partition, I got some error about missing build.prop, and so decided to try flashing on top of stock ROM.
Stock I have installed as Flash PureStock Rom + Secure UVAMB7 Kernel (from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=43772060&postcount=3) -- again, in multiboot -- and tried installing OTA on top of that. Got "error executing updater binary in zip"
What am I doing wrong?
Thanks
slimkat v9 to stock tw
Please help me. I have a sgh-t999. I want to know is it safe to install stock tw t999_uvuenc2. I'm currently running slimkat v9. My baseband is t999uvuenc2 and my android version is 4.4.4 i really want my s3 to revert back to stock. Ive been asking to the roms posted in this unit if it safe to direct flash but i havent got a good advice. I really want the stock touchwiz. Pls help me.
Which firmware to use
After I un-bricked my SGH-T999 with the debrick image sdcard ( YAYYY), I was able to boot with the stock 4.3 rom again.
I reflash the root66 4.3 firmware hoping it could get the correct boot image back in place. However it got stuck at the Samsung logo.
So I went into stock recovery and did a wipe/factory reset. Now I can still boot with the debrick sdcard but I am back in JellyBean (4.1.2 T999UVDMD5).
Which firmware should I flash 4.3 or 4.1.2? And did I miraculously downgraded my firmware ( I thought it wasn't possible) ?

Custom Binary Download: No
Current Binary: Samsung Official
System Status: Official

Am I correct that if the root66 firmware had installed correctly, it should read:

I will lke to ask you this, i followed some tutorials some months ago and i upgraded my fone (I747) baseband to I747UCUFNE4 also the build number is JSS15J.I747UCUEMJB. The andriod version is currently 4.3 but has 4.4.2 baseband. i will like to ask if i flash your provided file I747UCUFNE4_Stock_Rooted_Deodex or I747UCUFNE4_Stock_Rooted_Odex want i brick my phone?
also i will like to ask with the "Samsung_SGH-I747_4.4.2_OTA_update.zip" file you provided how can i use that to update my phone (if only possible). Should i use odin or via recovery. Thank you
flashable tar via odin for 4.4.2?
Does anyone know if there is a 4.4.2 flashable tar via odin? I was running on 4.3 with 4.4.2 baseband version and I couldn't install custom ROM so I use EZ unlock to unlock the bootloader (stupid me didn't know it only works on Verizon phone) and my phone went into hard brick. I was able to debrick and get into download mode but so far unable to start the phone without the microSDard. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Flashing the NE4_stock_rooted file shouldn't brick your phone, but don't quote me on it. You use the Samsung_SGH-I747_4.4.2_OTA_update.zip in a custom recovery like clockwork mod.

No O/S - can only boot into download mode
I've got an interesting one. I was prepping my phone for selling, decided to clear out all the memory. Somehow I must have deleted more than I meant to b/c when I restarted the phone, it just hangs on the Samsung screen. I can get into download mode, but not into recovery and nothing ever loads. I tried at least one version of installing CWM but it doesnt look like I can boot into recovery even after the Odin install appears ok. Before the crash, I was running a modded 4.4.2 rom with the bootloader and other things that come with it. Is there anything I can do to get this thing up and running again?
Thanks1
WIFI??
Just tried to flash ODEX version and now my WIFI is not working?
Any suggestions please?

Does the bootloader and modem on your phone match this rom? That could be why wifi won't work. You can check by entering this in a terminal app or adb shell; if they don't end in NE4 it is probably part of your problem:
Code:
getprop ro.bootloader
getprop gsm.version.baseband
If you don't want to mess with the bootloader and modem on your phone you might be able to get everything working by flashing a custom kernel. Try the ktoonsez touchwiz versions with this rom. Just flash the kernel in recovery like you did the rom (no wipes for kernel, just install - although if you find it won't boot maybe try wiping cache and dalvik) and it will overwrite the default one the rom was packaged with. A nandroid backup of boot could revert the kernel if kt causes any problems.
Thank you!

Now I see what you mean! THANK YOU for your response.
It seems by Bootloader does not match after all as it ends in NJ1.

OK. Either flash the KT kernel, or this ROM https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=95784891001613266

usually it is wise to have bootloader and modem match. if bootloader is NJ1 , then modem needs to match. there's a thread here somewhere.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2941792
here is the link to a flashable nj1 bootloader/modem if you want. PLEASE - make a backup & read read read. good luck.
