Voicemail to Text - Sprint Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Im rooted, running Tx...'s Hybrid Stock. I ean to know if there is a FREE way /app to get my voicemail to text. I hate to pay $3 a month for that feature to work in Sprint's Visual Voicemail. Any ideas?

I think Google voice transcribes for free.

This is what I use. You need to set call conditional forwarding to your Google voice number if you don't want to use the sprint integration and the voicemail will come through either Google voice app or hangouts however you set it up

Let me ask just a few more questions before I begin the configuration. I don't have a GoogleVoice set up so when I went to set it up, I needed a number. Do I get a new number or use my Sprint number (see here for using Sprint number: https://support.google.com/voice/answer/1207070).

It's up to you, I have a 530 California number associated with my Google voice account because they don't have Hawaii numbers. I left my 530 number as my Google voice number and so when I call out via hangouts it will show as the 530 number on people's caller ID. Calls to use us over hangouts are free still so if you plan doesn't have unlimited min this might be a good option for you. If you do the sprint integration, you'll only have one number

Google voice limited?

I downloaded voice from the marketplace but the only options I have are voice mail and that's it. I cam make calls or sms. Is there a way around this or am I stuck with only voice mail? Is anyone else having this problem?

Do you have a registered google voice account with a working GV phone number given to you by google? You need a full account for full functionality. Simply downloading the app is not enough.

[Q] SMS app

Looking for a sms/mms messaging app that uses my data plan instead of my text plan. Search with no luck. Anyone got anything......
That would just be email right?
Otherwise, SMS is always going to come in/send out via your text plan
I guess that would fall into email. Guess I'm looking for more of a chat based app. comes down to i would like to send and recieve messages with out a number trace.

What about "whatsapp messenger".. it looks like it might do the trick.

Kik messenger... similar to BBM....
The problem with most apps that say they are SMS replacements that use your data plan is that they are actually some type of IM program which would require the person you are trying to reach be using it as well.
I'd recommend Google Voice as it would be using the data plan on your end, but be sending a true SMS so the recipient sees it as an SMS. If they want to pay for a text messaging plan, that's their choice.
Certain IM clients like Yahoo IM can send SMS messages, but I don't think it's as clean, it's just easier for the recipient when they see a SMS coming from an actual phone number.
In any case, you'd end up having problems if you like to send pics via MMS. Google Voice does not support MMS (people have been requesting it for a while, I only hope it's on their roadmap).
Did'nt Go sms have this as a paid option?
Get Textfree...when u make account, it gives you number that shows up when u text somebody, and it uses data...I used it a lot on my ipod touch, not so much on my dinc, but still does the job

Live profile. It is supposed to work like blackberry messenger but you can use it cross platform (android, iPhone, BB). Downside is that tonuse it, both you and the person you are trying to reach need to have it installed.

GV Sprint Integration

I am new to sprint. I was wondering if anyone could clear up some confusion. If I use option 2 and use google voice as my sprint number, do I forever loose that number?
In other words, if I ever switch to another carrier, will my google voice number not come with me?

If you are talking about the option on the app itself to use either your Sprint number or GV no you will not lose your GV number.

I an taking about the option on the website for the special sprint integration.

In theory, the GV number belongs to you. Sprint just has a higher level of integration with GV. So I wouldn't worry about it. I'm using GV on my phone without any issues. I can edit its functionality through the menu on the web page.
Hope that helped.

Voicemails not going to Google Voice ?

I need help please. I always use Google Voice just for my voicemails only. Just got my Nexus last night, set it up GV like I always do.
Missed a clients call this morning, and checked Google Voice and nothing, but there is a recorder icon in the notification bar, that would take me into some dial up phone voicemail ? Who the **** uses that in the 21st century.
Anyways, what's the deal here ?
Thank you.

follow this to make sure your number is correctly forwarding to your GV voicemail:
http://www.marketing.fm/2009/05/14/use-google-voice-without-changing-your-number/
Scroll down to the carrier number forwarding
Go into dialer, settings and set your voice mail to Google voice.

Thanks, tried that but some error came up, said my carrier does not support it ? That's not right.
I did just switch from Sprint to Verizon last night, could there be an issue there ?

yes, its not forwarding to GV, try the link I posted above
So per Google's web page, it shows Verizon as not working normally, until you dial *71 or something with your Google voice # ? I have no idea what my Google # is ?

Log in to voice.google.com and see your number. Or go into the Google Voice app and go to Settings. It will have an entry "My Google Voice Number" that lists your number.

Yes, you have to hook your number onto Google Voice via the website. It will usually entail your GV number calling your actual number and you pressing two buttons on the phone and then it will be connected.. Always how it's been on Verizon

Thanks for the help, I still had it set to Sprint as my carrier in the settings webpage, had to change that, and that dial a special #. It should setup now ?

Google Voice

Is anyone else having trouble using Google Voice as their voicemail provider? I don't care about the rest of the features of it, I have just always used Voice for VM, but each time I attempt to set it up, I get "Could not retrieve and save current forwarding number settings" error. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling/taking myself through the wizard again, but I get the same thing every time. I do not like AT&T Messages even though it has the same basic features, as it tries to take over my entire phone (like AT&T likes to do).
Yeah, the Google Voice app failed to register it as the new voice mail provider for me too. Try to activate it in the dialer instead. Dial *004*1(then your 10 digit number) and last press # then enter (call). That should do it.

Awesome. Thanks, guys. It still does not go to Google Voice when I press and hold the voicemail button. Is that because it's still set up as "my carrier" in settings? I called myself and it worked to go to GV instead, so I'm happy about that. Still can't get the settings to change. Think it's possible to do or just be happy it's working as is?
Try changing the voice mail number in voice mail settings to your gv number

Hmm... so simple. It works. Thanks. Still says My Carrier, but oh well, everything works as it should.
