I've got a pretty major issue, and I've done a bit of research and it seems to be known but I can't find a solution to it. Basically, the screen won't turn on when it sleep mode, no matter how long I leave the device for, how long I press the button, how many times etc etc - so at the moment, if I want to use the phone, I have to hold power & volume up to force the phone to shut down and then turn it back on and not let it lock. If someone could help me fix this bug it would definitely be appreciated.
Cheers,
Do you have root or any mods installed on your phone? Stock firmware? What version? Maybe custom kernel? What governor and I/O

Phone rooted but xposed mods disabled.
Stock firmware 4.4.4
Build number: 14.4.A.0.157
Kernel version: 3.4.0-perf-gaee6e5a
Not sure how to find governor and I/O?
The few times I actually manage to get my screen on, if I hold the power button to shut down/restart, the screen just turns off, leading me to think it's a hardware issue (problem with the power button)? If anyone has encountered anything similar before or can think of a workaround, please let me know!

Hello there
I am currently having an issue with my Optimus G screen. When i rebooted the phone / power off, the backlight won't turn on. But after a few tries / sometimes even just clicked the power button to wake it up after waiting for few minutes, the backlight goes to normal (and if i never power off this thing then the issue seems to disappear). I believe this is a software issue. I am currently running on LG stock software.
Does anyone know how to fix this problem or at least tell me the method to be able to get the backlight back always? I don't wanna always face this issue if i power off this thing.
FYI, when the backlighting is not on i have tried to scroll the screen brightness to the max from settings but to no avail. Only with keep re-trying to power up for few times then i am able to get the backlight back on.
Thanks in advance!
I have the same problem... You fixed that ?

I tested all roms for e975 . backlight working only Epsilon , Pacman 4.3 and Omni rom 4.4. Try it's working!
any updates for other people having this trouble?
Seem to be a weakness for LG phones...
Did someone fix this backlight bug?
I just did a reboot of my tab and it got stuck at what I call "Black Sceen Crash".
Looks like being switched off - but isn't.
It does react on screen touches with a very brief vibration.
And it gets a litte warm.
Does not react on long pressing power button - so no reboot, no download mode, whatsoever.
Guess I have to let it run out of battery - which might take couple of days with screen off. We'll see.
Any idea what to do or what could have caused that behavior? Any similar experience?
Before trying to reboot there was no mobile connection, and I wanted to reboot to get it reconnected. Otherwise no problem.
I am running stock Samsung ROM, rooted, Skyhigh Kernel, OC/UV.

Yeah, I also discovered long pressing power button alone does not force-reset the device. I managed to reset it though by press-hold Power + Home + Either Vol Up/Down. Give that a try.
I can't remember whether it was the Vol Up or Down, try one then the other if it didn't work first time. Good luck.
After a while (30 min probably) it did not any more react on screen touches and was cold. Off maybe? Still no reaction on long pressed Power Button. Tried Volume Down+Home+Power Button - and fortunately it revived the tablet. Strange. Thanks for the hint!
I face the Black screen of death and the device (T805) was not responding to any reboot, recovery or download mode actions, sent it back to Samsung support and they claim an internal piece of HW need to be replaced, I refused that and asked for refund or new device... After a week I got a replacement device...
Hi all,
I have some trouble with my Z1 compact. Very often when screen is off and pressing powerbutton (to get to unlock screen) the screen goes on but in the same sec goes it off. The same thing can also happen if screen is on and I want to turn it off -> it goes off and again on and I'm back at unlock screen. This issue appears kind of randomly and I have no idea if this is a software bug or a hardware problem.
Using CM11 M12 stable. Any ideas? Thank you

I have the same phone and OS, and have seen the same issue, but until I saw your post I have dismissed it as something I was doing when pressing the power button. I believe it must be a software bug, since I did not have the problem when running the stock OS. Perhaps it is worth a bug report.

That is a feature in the new update. Let Google know you have the issue of you want them to revert it back.
You know you can tap the button twice to turn it on, right?
Thanks for answers. Nice feature I know then I tab button twice is turn on.Before I have screen always on and theatre mode on.When I move my arm with watch nothing happend, backlighting always off, I see what hour all the time. Now when watch in theatre mode screen is off and I can't see what is time actually. When I tap button backlighting is on and theatre mode off.I see hour but when backligting off screen on and I move arm with watch all the time backlighting on and "google ok". Early solution is better for my.

Hi all, my tablet suddenly turned off and when I tried to turn it on again, it would only flash a white notification light 5 times. I left it on the charger for a long time and when I tried to turn it on again, it displays the Google logo then shortly after displays a green Android laying on its back with a red exclamation mark coming out of its stomach with the text "no command" underneath. Nothing else happens afterwards.
I have tried to boot into recovery (whatever that means) by holding the power button and as soon as the Google logo appears, press and hold the volume down button while still holding the power button but it still boots to the icon of the green Android laying on its back with the text "no command" underneath.
Does anybody have any ideas on what I can do to fix my tablet ?
Thanks for everyone's time !
you have to keep the buttons together from the beginning, until the tablet turns on.

Hi tinOFbeer, thanks for your reply. I just tried it and nothing happened. I first pressed down and held the volume down key. Then I pressed down and held the power key while still holding the volume down key. I kept both buttons held down for 60 seconds and nothing happened. Is this normal behavior of the tablet ?
no, this is not normal, find a movie on YT and see what it should look like.
Try to press the keys (pwr+vol_down or pwr+vol_up) when you see the "no command" message

At the "no command" message, if I do pwr+vol_down or pwr+vol_up, the tablet turns off. The tablet also turns off if I do vol_down+pwr or vol_up+pwr at the "no command" message.
If you are not able to enter the fastboot mode unfortunately I am not able to help you. In the case of Nexus 7 2012 there is a NVflash utility for the Nvidia processor, but the 2013 version has a Qualcomm processor and only the service can fix it. Buy a used motherboard and replace it.

OK... It's actually kinda tricky and sometimes it takes a few tries... hopefully, that's all it is in your case.
At the No Command dead droid, press both Volume Up and Power together at once, for about 3-5 seconds ish, then release the Volume Up button while still holding down Power.
One second later, release the Power button...
If you hold down the two buttons together too long (30 seconds is way too long), yes, your tablet will power down.

Hi beachfl, I tried exactly what you said around 10 times and have no luck getting anything to happen. Is there an explanation for why I cannot get into recovery to reset the tablet ? Is it possible that the memory chip that stores the recovery has been damaged ?

Having re-read the thread, I think tinOFbeer might be right. If you can't pull up the bootloader, it's beyond my knowledge.
I do think you should be able to salvage it somehow, tho, as at least it's trying to boot up and you do get power around the board.
I'd download and give WugFresh' Nexus Root Toolkit (NRT) a try. It can automatically install the drivers and download the factory image for your tablet and try to flash it over for you. In the NRT, there's a Soft-bricked/Bootloop check box option under 'Flash Stock' on the main page (ignore the 'Unroot' bit) that might help.
Other than that, I hope someone else might weigh in. HTH

Thanks for the suggestion. I downloaded WugFresh's NRT but when trying to turn on the tablet, it just stays on the "Google" logo now. Maybe there is a hardware issue with the tablet. I'm thinking its just time to throw it away and get a new tablet.
I had the tablet plugged into the computer but forgot whether the tablet was off or on the android logo screen. I was wiggling the USB cable and somehow the tablet booted up without a problem. While using the tablet, I realized that the power button had the same effect as volume up. I turned off the tablet and held the volume up button and it went into the same "No command" screen. I turned off the tablet and held the volume down button and it went into the bootloader. So my problem seems to be a hardware problem with the button flex cable.
I really appreciate everyone helping me with my problem.
