I am using Samsung galaxy grand stock 4.2.2.
On checking via no frills cpu control I found that the cpu frequency is stuck at 1.2ghz.
it shows
max frequency : 1.2ghz
min frequency : 1.2ghz
I tried changing frequency with no frills cpu control , voltage control , setcpu . But I am unable to change the frequency.
Please give a solution ASAP.
More Details :
1. I was on stock NG3 firmware build.
2. I flashed @k2wl's evolution kernel for stock.
3. I faced bluetooth issues.
4. I flashed stock MK3 firmware.
5. Now I am facing this problem

You cant change CPU frequency on stock kernel i believe.. try using some other kernel

You were unable to understand me.
I didn't want to overclock.
I wanted to set lower frequency limit.
Check the screenshot to see what I mean.
I tried applying Requested
but Current remains same.

Okay may be!!
You were trying to underclock, still u need a custom kernek i believe, just try flashing a custom kernel, but the sad part is, there are no great custom kernels for stock 4.2.2.

Have you used Samsung galaxy grand or can you ask someone who has this device ?
As far as I remember , I was able to underclock but now I am unable to.

If thats the case do a trial and error method... If u had updated to the latest version of the ROM, there may be difference. You might had got the different experience in an older version of the ROM. Anyway, you are your own!! I cant provide any info more than this. I did tried the same, and i got similar experience and i tried with a custom kernel, i found the result, and understand that is the only reason i said so.. That was my humbe suggestion, you can take it or leave it!!
helped alot bro thankss
Try rom toolbox..... It forces the system to overclock the cpu......

in 4.1 stock when u selected the battery saving mode it used to under clock the processor to 800mhz but in 4.2 it doesn't under clock in battery saving mode. if u r extremely determined about under clocking the cpu then better switch to a custom rom bro.
After waiting for a looong time , I have concluded that there's no solution apart from custom kernels or roms.
Anyways , thanks to you guys for your support

The hero seems to ignore changed CPU speed or simply resetting it to default value immediately. At least it does on my Modaco and also on my coworkers HTC Magic running Hero-based ROMs.
Does anyone know why? Is it in the custom ROM, the kernel or some HTC modification to the android build?
I would like to see if you could save some batterylife by lowering CPU Max while screen is off and see how low you can go and still use Spotify and other apps without issues.
1. how do you set cpu frequency?
2. with the program set-cpu (or something like that) it is at the moment not possible..
I'm aware that it is not possible hence my question if anyone knows why so we can try to find a solution. Same goes for brightness which also resets immediately. Is this kernel, modified android or what?

I have made a user.conf file that runs hero at full and addd to my roms, Ithink modaco has a user.conf file also
you might want to download setspu! work like a charm!

not the kernel its in the build.prop for screen settings, also the user.conf plays a big roll!

I've tried both Overclocker Widget and SetCPU and both give same results. They seem to be able to change the settings but they are immediately reset to default values.
Using SetCPU if i change max to something like 480 and set it it looks like it works but hitting refresh it shows that CPU is running at 528 and that max setting is still 528. Issue was the same with Modaco V2.1 and DDR V2.0 and also on a coworkers HTC Magic running some Hero-based ROM (possibly based on Modaco he was not sure)
Also if you try to change the screen brightness using any tool makes the screen change brightness for a moment and then autosets to whatever value the Hero seems to think is appropriate (light sensor?)
Could you try using SetCPU to lower the CPU max and hit refresh to verify it has not been reset to 528?
user.conf location
Where to I have to put the user.conf in the filesystem on a rooted Hero with stock ROM ?
Thanks,
Guys,

528 Max and 480 Min is default on the Hero. The question is if you can set it LOWER to save battery like if you have apps running that won't let it go to sleep.
hi drizzy could you tell me how to make a user.conf file to make hero run at full 528 speed all the time and how to place it onto my hero.
thankyou

Check out the rooting guides, you should be able to type it pretty much as it says (starting with "echo") on one line and that should do it once you're at the root shell (#)

would you be so kind to share it with us? i have no idea how it should look like, and there is not really information about it on the devs homepage... i would appreciate it.
If you recompile a kernel with "performance" governor as default, you'll run at full all the time.
Hi
Having tired a few custom ROMS I've gone back to the stock (boring of me I know) but my main reason for rooting was to increase internal memory and (with the help of int2ext) I know have a wopping 1.5 GB internal memory. So I'm happy - ish
I noticed when i had the CM10 ROM installed that I could set a max CPU of 768 MHZ but now I've gone back to stock that has dropped to 600 HHZ
Is there another Kernel I can install under the stock ROM that will give me the higher CPU max, and if s o- which one?
Cheers

Sorry, my bad and for ref I went with option 2 and its worked like a charm
Spoke to soon, seems every time I boot i get an in proper boot message and my WiFi will not connect (get "error" when I try)
So my question remains - any know the best STABLE kernel that will give me 787 MHZ or above please?
Dont worry - used this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1618595&page=1
And seems fine
Edit : problem seems to be solved! I'll let this thread if some user experience the same issue. For me, the solution was to remove an app called adaway
hello NOTE 8 community
i have a little problem with my gt-N5110 running android 4.2.2 (tried civato's rom and terok nor v1.1 and v2) : my cpu always run at max speed after a certain amont of time (which i can't determine precisely). i tried to change governor, scheduler, flash a new kernel, killing process in background...
i'm short of idea right now. does everyone experienced that ? do you see something i could try ?
thank you for you (future) help !
Guys I need help in rooting Xperia T2 D5303 single sim LTE. But after using PRF with Lollipop firmware. There is no Sony logo when booting only a Powered by android appears after awhile, I wonder why? But it works. After I check the cpu settings I foundout that My Minimum Cpu Freq was at 787 MHz by default. I think it has to be in 300 MHz. But it doesent. I cant even seem to install modded Play Store too. Is there any proper way of rooting it? Please tell.me, I really want Lollipop on my T2. By the way I used an an Customized France ftf file downloaded from XperiaFirmware. What is the best version anyway? After decrypting the files in Flashtool, I did notninclude the files in the boot folder when I bundled it. Isbit required? Please help....
In order to get a proper root follow these instructions:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/t2-ultra/general/r-problems-t3096863
About the booting logo, my phone do that too, I don't see a problem with that. On the other hand, the 787 MHZ is a real issue and may be related with the lag that many users had informed. I also found this problem and I used No-frills CPU controll to get the 300 MHz as the minimum clock freq. I haven't had the time to check if there is any difference.
Hello,
You can download trickster mod from play store. It is nice application for kernel settings modifications.
Thanks
I noticed my 5T was draining more battery after 5.1.2, all previous versions were fine.
CPU-Z and other monitoring tools cannot read the CPU load and the cpu 0/1/2/3 never goes below 518mhz, and CPU 4/5/6/7 never goes below 806 mhz. Someone is not right and chewing through battery... can anyone here confirm this for 5.1.2?

Try flashing a custom kernel. If you're rooted with Magisk, flash the uninstaller first. https://github.com/topjohnwu/Magisk/releases/download/v16.4/Magisk-uninstaller-20180429.zip
I recommend SimpleGX Kernel v5.2, as it will lower your CPU frequencies to 300 MHz and it's pretty much flash and forget. https://mega.nz/#F!hLYX2aST!eGK6E2N-MOjJ5V5BwRgfuA!QKoAnJpL v5.2 is the last version listed in the folder.
Steps:
1. Flash kernel
2. Flash Magisk
3. Reboot

Thanks for the detailed guide Bud, but I was hoping for some confirmation from others and possibly a mainstream fix without going down the custom firmware path.

It is a mainstream change from CAF:
https://source.codeaurora.org/quic/.../?id=fa1df42427fc2c3ba5255d2e8593bb292d8fac55
So this won't be "fixed" and it's not a bug. Anyway, you can always use a kernel manager app to set the min freq to whatever you want or you can edit the post_boot.sh back to 300000.
What is the easiest way to achieve this? is it possible without root?

Sorry. Without rooting your phone, there's nothing you can do. The stock kernel is set to those frequencies by default.
Interesting update: I flashed back to 5.1.1 and the drain issue is gone. The CPU usage is still 518 / 806 MHz but the battery drain is around 100-150 mA instead of 250'ish mA for 5.1.2
