[Q] DNS - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I cannot change my DNS settings on the D855 G3 (running 4.4.2 rooted), this is for the purpose of changing Netflix regions. I've read that on later android versions the DNS change is not possible, yet it works on a Tablet running 4.4.4
The save option is greyed out as soon as I open the wi-fi settings to modify my current connection, and if I try to change the DNS on the initial connection it wont connect

Read this for changing your DNS: http://www.androidtablets.net/threads/how-do-i-get-my-static-ip-settings-to-save.32136/
And read this about Netflix hardcoding DNS settings in the app: https://www.reddit.com/r/netflix/comments/2qevqt/meta_netflix_is_starting_to_crack_down_on_dns_vpn/

Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
hm ye.
but i was using t-mobile 2.1 rom before and my desire had no visible hostname.
after flashing leedroid's 2.2 rom, my phone now appears with "android_a1becb15640fa93a" as a hostname everytime i login to a wlan spot.
i just want to remove the hostname again, just like it was before (with the 2.1 rom t-mob)
Hi,
I would also be interested in the answer - same thing, after flashing Leedroid the Name "android_blahblah" appears on the network. Doesn't look very nice and I'd like to have a custom hostname ;-)
any new info on this?

Confirmed to work on Samsung Galaxy I9000 aswell.
Settings > Applications > Development > Device hostname (change it) and Save.
hostname on wlan for android 2.2 - 2.3 galaxy-tab
edit /system/etc/dhcpcd/dhcpcd.conf with root explorer and add a line like this:
interface eth0
hostname galaxy-tab ##### added line #######
option subnet_mask, routers, domain_name_servers
disable/enable wlan and yor router should recognize your device by name now.

I can't find Device hostname on this place, it is possible that this comes from Rom?
Give it a way to change the Hostname of Desire without using a app?
And why is that option not found by wlan settings?

Hello
I am also not able to find the
Settings > Applications > Development > Device hostname (change it) and Save.
I finally figured it out and made a script that does this, it should work on all devices.

[Q] MIUI 1.6.10 no Wifi connection

Hello,
I've problems to connect with some access points with the current MIUI version.
The SSID was found, I set the pass and then the connection was rejected. If I try with Froyo 2.2.2 it works fine.
I've tested different access point configurations:
- b/g/n
- b/g
- g only
- WPA/WPA2
- WPA TKIP only
In the Milestone section I've read, that this phone has the same problems and a ROM version from eybee will solve this. Is there a fix for the Delfy, too?

IPV6

Does android / gingerbread support IPV6? I see some files in the system pertaining to it but cant seem to find an ipv6 address anywhere. Also my router does not show a ipv6 address for my phone.
Depends on Kernel, mostly only Custom Kernel support it. See my signature.

How Do I Change "WAP" Settings ?

I have gone over the problems people have had with " WiFi Tether " on this device and have deduced it down to the WAP ( wifi access points ) settings. I can't for the life of me figure out how to change the settings though. When connected to the computer via wifi, FoxFi will give and error on connection of " limited access ". FoxFi will work on all my phones but this model ( even the new LG Nexus 5 ). If anyone can give me some directions on changing the WAP settings to allow WAP2 on this device please post as soon as possible....Thank you.....
* DEVELOPERS, PLEASE PUT A FIX FOR THIS IN YOUR ROMS THANKS IN ADVANCE!!
