Is there any way to get a paid app on google play to my FiretTV? I tried getting google play working on the ftv, but I guess that was too much to hope for. And I looked for a way to remove the signing on the app, but that seems a little troublesome.
Yes you can download any of your paid apps and install them to your fire tv. I have been using http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1563894 . All the directions are rite there in the thread .

The only thing I can't find is the device id. Tried a device id-app.. but it just says not found. Do I need some.. google service installed, or something?
I was able to install the Google services framework, maps, youtube, google play services, the Play store and gmail (meaning, adb install ran without error.)
The combination gave me enough of google that I can sideload paid apps from the Play store and they run fine. The store itself is installed, knows who I am, but cannot see the network. This is apparently a typical state for the store on Amazon hardware.

Yeah, I've installed most of these myself. But to begin to sideload a paid app, I need to be able to sign it with an id.. so I'm obviously missing something. I got service framework, google play services and gmail. Are you using the device id from your firetv, or a different device?

Do you see the "No connection" message with a "Retry" button when you launch the Play Store?
@ treqie I just grab the APK from the /data/app directory on a device it's installed on, and sideload that. There may be apps that doesn't work with, but the ones I'm using, it's worked on.
@ deanemj Yes, that's exactly what I see - but it also knows what account name it can't connect to.

Does Google Play Music work?
@treqie the device id is found on your phone or any other device that you have the Google play store WORKING on. Apk leecher "spoofs" as that device in order to download the apps. Then you side load them to the fire tv. I have it set up with my phone id to download my apps. Forget about the fire tv until you are able to download apps.

Have you tried installing Xposed and the Play Fix module? BTW I haven't tried this myself since I usually won't install Play but it was suggested before.

Yep, that's exactly what I see, too. I'm not sure if it's a permission issue or if we're missing something else.
I'm not exactly sure what isn't working for you guys. I don't have play store installed on my fire tv. I just use apk leecher (which is associated with my phone ID) to download (example: root explorer from play store) that I side loaded to my fire tv.

Oh, yeah, grabbing APKs that way from the play Store isn't a problem. We're just trying to get the store itself working on the AFTV.
There is one risky way of using the Play Store through a web browser, but I don't know if it will even work on Amazon devices.
You could change your device name inside the build.prop file to match a Google Play based device and register yourself on the site.

Well, what I need is to be able to install my apps and have my subscriptions recognized. So for me, at least, the fact that Gmail knew what account it tied to, and Youtube, and the Play Store - these things mean that Play is working on my fire tv.
I don't use it in the car or at the office, so I know I can always load an APK to it if I need to.
I know there are apps that are registered not just to an account but to a device, and for those you'd need to extract a device ID - but I haven't yet encountered one of those apps. (I actually only know about them because Titanium mentions them to me when it offers to restore my device ID so they'll keep running.)
After I tried installing the play store on my fire tv I used firefox beta to open the play store web site to try and sign in that way and clicked on settings cog on top right. It showed my phone as a device and the fire tv as a device but had missing info compared to my phone. There has to be some trick to getting it to work. Unless it is hard coded by amazon to block it.
I'm in Australia and have Netflix working fine on my Roku 3 using a DNS service. But I'm not sure how to install Netflix on the Fire TV. I can't install from the Fire TV app store, as it says I'm in the wrong region (tried with hola in by browser too, but still the same deal).
I sideloaded the standard Netflix app from the play store, but I can't make selections because it's a touch based app, unless there's a workaround for this I don't know about? Also read though, that the quality is limited in this app.
I thought maybe the GTV Netflix app may work? I can't find an apk to test this though.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks!
Im in Bermuda and when i first tried installing netflix i got the wrong region message as well. After i put in my DNS i was able to get it. Dont know why but it worked. Have you tried getting it from the amazon website? You can choose to "deliver" it to your device. You may get lucky.
Thanks for the reply. I've managed to register US amazon.com account, previously amazon was telling me my account was registered on amazon.com.au - so I will try changing the account details on the FireTV tonight and see how it goes.
No problem getting Netflix app on the device after I have a US Amazon account.
Hi guys, i have searched everywhere and failed to find an answer. Please advise how can i resolve this issue. I have 3 AFTVs and all 3 have this issue. All the FireTVs boxes rooted on Version 51.1.1_user_51170220. Every time i start YouTube and select a video, it crashes to main home screen. If i also cast something using YouTube Casting, it does same thing. I normally use Kodi, but when i play YouTube, i normally reboot box or shutdown Kodi completely. I have also removed Kodi to test and it still crashes.
Hmm tried all, still no luck

Hi, my AFTV have this problem too. I checked Amazon Youtube App customer reviews and other peoples have this problem too. Amazon don't give any solution.
I am having a similar issue, but with Netflix. Please have a read:

I think the issues lay in bad coding in app development.

You can try to install the original YouTube app from the Google store. Link is: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.youtube&hl=en . The YouTube version I have currently is 10.24.57.
I have it on my FTV and runs fine with no issues. My FTV is at the latest rooted version. Note that my FTV does have the Google Play and Google Play Services installed as well. I think I read somewhere that YouTube app (from the Google store) needs Play Services to run.
I have also tried the YouTube for Google TV app (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.youtube.tv&hl=en). But that app always gives me an error "Connection to Server lost". Despite multiple cleanups of FTV with regards to data/cache and re-installs and etc etc, it always gives me that error. So I gave up on that and just run the original app.

Ok, I installed the Amazon version (1.1.1), the one with the blue box that says "YouTube" in white fonts. This was side by side install with Google version. This works.
I then uninstalled the Google one, rebooted my FTV and tried the Amazon one. And that runs fine as well. I wish it didn't work so that we can have a repeatable bug, but unfortunately not. I also did the same steps on my other FTV (one rooted version back) and all runs fine, side by side and by itself.
Unrelated to your problem, I noticed a quirk in the Amazon version. Neither the wireless keyboard or the Amazon's official FTV app (on iPhone) can be used to search within the application. But keyboard functionality in the Google version works fine in the search.

Could be. Maybe you can dump the logs and post them. Someone can take a peek and see if something jumps out.
EDIT: I just thought of something. Are you actually running the version 1.1.1? From the version number, I am imagining that there is probably an older version. If you are getting an older version from Amazon store (because your OS is old), maybe you can try running the 1.1.1. Let me know if you need that apk if that is true.
Or conversely, if you are in fact running 1.1.1, maybe the older version might work with your older OS. But I don't have that version for you to test.
It use to work fine up until 3 weeks ago. It stopped then. Ill update the box over the weekend to see maybe that fixes it. Thank you very much.

Yes, I guess it should be the phone one (I have masked my FTV as a phone in MarketHelper). But no, I see no cutoffs or anything. It renders it fine on my TV. I have attached couple of pictures from my FTV while running the app (playing Steven Colbert in the background). One shows the picture filling the entire TV and the other shows the stats (which you can enable for any clip you are playing in the clip menu) for this video clip (so that it can be read correctly). I did set the "Quality" to 720p in the settings of the app.
The line for "Video format" shows 1280x720 at the end. I am guessing thats what it is rendering at.. But my knowledge is limited as far as that goes
It is interesting that the "Device" is listed as "Amazon AFTB 4.2.2", and not the HTC phone... Hmm...

Sorry, my Netflix works fine (always has). I use the stock Amazon Netflix app. So I didn't have a need to try Google's Netflix app.
Regarding MarketHelper, I am not sure. I guess you can try without it (it might work because my FTV is identified as an actual FTV in the stats image above and not as a phone). If not, it should be a cinch to mask your FTV using MarketHelper. I am wondering if the video is rendering correctly because my FTV is NOT identified as a phone.. LOL.

whats wierd is for me amzon youtube works fine but amazon netflix does not work at all.
i cant possibly figure out what can cause the difference?
but i CAN suggest that the issue is in the app developement of FireOS apps
Also are you simply using ADBfire to load the APK onto the stick?

No, I use command line ADB to interact with my FTV ("adb install blahblah.apk"). Glad that YouTube works for you at least. If I were you, I would load the Google's Netflix and see how it goes. If that does not work, start by wiping your FTV clean with no apps (I am not sure about the correct sequencing for reset/data & cache clean/use CWM or not). Install Netflix from Amazon and test it and see if there are errors. You can get a log dump from your FTV and maybe someone here can see an issue. And if Netflix works, start installing one app at a time, testing Netflix and so on.
Also, are there any geographical restrictions that are tripping you up.... Are you in the US or using VPN? I recently read that some content providers are actively blocking VPNs... Not sure if Netflix is playing that game.
I have seen that if Kodi is paused, Netflix will have issues (WatchESPN is another app that I have issues with when Kodi is paused). You can also try going to the latest FTV version (rooted or otherwise) first and testing Netflix before you take on this PITA and begin your installs from scratch.
Thanks for help mate, I may not have to go any further with this.
I have found that if I use the netflix mobile app on a phone to find a video, and then "cast" it to the fire stick, it plays every single time with no problems. Video after video no issues. I can even exit app on phone and it keeps playing in the stick.
You may want to try this with the YouTube app also because it offers the cast functionality as well.
Based on this I know for sure it is not ISP related or hardware related. It is improperly coded app that was not properly tested before it was released.
found the solution for netflix issue

I downloaded the new official Fxnow App for the Fire TV, logged in and tried to play something. Everything and I mean everything that I try to play brings up a 'can't play' error. Everything else works fine on the Fire TV ( netflix, Hbogo, etc. ) and the sideloaded FXnow apk app plays everything fine using a usb keyboard, so the only thing I can think of for why the official Fxnow app isn't playing is it's out, but not supported yet. The install app wasn't easy to find. It was buried in the search area, rather than coming up as an app under app categories, and therefore my conclusion is it won't be officially active until the 2nd Gen Fire Tv is released on Oct 5th. Anyone installed the Fxnow app, registered it with their cable / sat company and found out that nothing is playable? Wanted to find out if it was a problem on my end. Can someone please confirm this?
Thanks.
Just wanted to give an update to my problem in case someone had this same issue in the future. Turns out the problem is DNS proxy related. I'm using unotelly running a geo-proxy service allowing me to watch content from the U.S and U.K using sideloaded apk files along with using kodi for U.K content. When I remove the DNS from my Amazon Fire TV configuration, the FXNOW official app works fine. The official Fxnow app is being blocked somewhere in the proxy chain. So, currently I'm inquiring if anything can be done with help from my proxy provider. If not, I'll just go back to sideloading the apk version of the app and watch FXnow that way. So, basically nothing wrong with the app. Problem is due to my setup.
Hi,
Been trying to get BT Sport app running on my Fire Stick. I'm aware that it has needed Google Play Services and Store to run for the last year or so and have loaded these but the most recent version of the app that I can get to install without error is 4.13.2 (2018-01-22). But this version just states that a newer version is available and to go to the store and update.
So has anyone got this installed and running recently?
I have a BT Sport subscription so not looking for a free solution (Kodi etc), just want to avoid the need to cast from my phone.
Thanks

Also having this issue, it seems that BT have stopped making the APK compatible with Android TV which is needed for it to work on the fire stick. Hence why the APK wont install. I also tried reverting back to older versions of google play services, bt app etc but it forces you to update google services, which once updated then requires you too update the BT app, in short in seems BT have finally found a way to get to charge people extra so they can use the BT TV APP.
Hopefully someone smarter than me can figure out a work around as casting or screen mirroring from a mac are rather crap options.
I use Downloader to update both the BT Sport app from APKPure and then, if needed, Google Play Services from APKMirror.
Still working perfectly for me.

Sounds like it might be a fire stick only problem then, works fine on the box, hope it doesn't go that way on the box as I'll have to get rid of my subscription.
I wonder what the difference could be?

I was wondering the same, i assume you are not rooted and after downloading the apk are manaually installing it. Therefore the only reason must be the sdk version is older on the firsestick as it uses android 5 as opposed to 6. we will have to see if bt sport works on the 4k firestick to prove this. Im not sure which version of the firetv you have but im betting its the newer one with android 6.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amazon_Fire_TV
We feel the same way too, continuous price increases, less games and less options to watch any content + less support will eventually result in our cancellation of this subscription and moving away from BT all together for internet too.
Yes you assume correct, it isn't rooted and I install manually after downloading.
I have a first generation fire box which is running software version 5.2.6.7 and Fire TV Home version 6.1.1.0-117
If there does come a time where it stops working for me I'll have to stick to using Ace Stream and saving money on a cheaper (but more data) sim only deal lol

I've got my firestick 4k and indeed it does install which means its a version/ sdk issue of some sort. Unfortunately I haven't been able to get it running, it sits on a black screen when starting. Could you indicate on apk mirror (with links) which versions of
google play store
google services framework
google account manager and
google play services you are using, there are many variants so you would have to provide links to each release esp google play services.
I'm especially interested in which google play services version and variant you are using. I've noticed when testing some of these other apps fail to load.
I'm using the latest BT Sport apk.
