GPS Issues After Rooting, custom Rom, and modem. - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note II

So I have been having an issue with my SGH t889 for quite some time and have not found a solution to it as of yet....
After rooting my phone and installing JediX20, along with a random Kernal and modem I noticed that my GPS has trouble locating me, locking, and keeping the sat lock. After searching forums and threads I have reverted back to Touchwiz (Stock with root), reverted the modem to MK7, and applied devil dual (for wifi issues with 4.3), I have used FasterGPS to apply a patch on my AGPS, I have used GPS test to see that 7 of the 16 Sats are connecting and disconnecting randomly, and I have cleared, updated AGPS settings... I am out of Ideas as to how to correct my GPS issues and it has gotten to the point that I am close to selling my Note and getting something else... I also remember reverting back to stock non root a while back in hopes of it being fixed....
Anyone have any ideas that I may be missing?

I have precisely the same issue. I upgraded my bootloader so that I could install DN4 which was successful, but now my GPS does not easily lock and if it does lock, my accuracy is approximately 100m and it is guaranteed to drop out often. Ive tried different ROMs, restoring old back ups (prior to this debacle I was using Jedi X Open Source where my GPS would connect effectively instantaneously and rarely drop out), and using seperately GPS Status smd TopNTP to update my my AGPS. Nothing seems to work. My phone is a T889. I've even tried the physical action of cracking open my note 2 and bending up the GPS connection... Nothing works.
Anyone ever fix this?

Anyone ever find a fix to the GPS? Works when I reboot the phone but wont work if..

My GPS works when I restart the phone.. Will pick up a couple sats within a few seconds if I am outside (more spotty if I am inside)... But if the phone has been on for a while (a couple hours) it wont see any Satellites, period... Anyone ever find a fix to this?
Need more details. ROM, Modem, Kernel??
Have you searched for GPS fixes in these forums? Because there are LOADS of threads and responses to those threads with tips, tweaks and suggestions.
Provided it's not a hardware issue..
Go back to stock or temporary stock EL29 (search it's here), get a lock and then update whatever ROM you want.
Try GPS Status from the market - free. Or GPS Doctor from the market not free but a fantastic app for fixing gps if its a software issue.
Do some searching and you will find your answers.
Good luck

Obviously I didn't find my answer or I wouldn't be posting in here... Using Touched by SGSIII but it is a FF18 (release correct?) Rom... Why would I go to stock EL29 and get a lock and update the ROM when I stated the GPS gets a lock onto the satellites if I reboot my phone?!?
The question is in relation to the daemon not disconnecting (or going to sleep and not waking up I guess) after some timeout X...
What works for me is turn on / off the GPS and be outside, can never get a lock inside a building.
The reason to go back to EL29 is that some have said this resolved their GPS issues (like losing or not getting a lock). If you searched you would have seen those threads.
Also if you are on Touched by SGSIII then the ROM is FF18 but it does not change/update your modem. You have to do that manually via CWM or Odin.
There is also a 'temporary EL29' you can try and see if you get AND KEEP a GPS lock - that way you'd know if your issue is the ROM your on, or possibly a hardware issue.
I've had smartphones with GPS hardware issues in the past and others here have too. So it's good to find out and not waste time on software/firmware tweaks when it could be hardware. [like futzing with a PC for hours or days only to find out it was bad RAM..]
Is your baseband (modem) EL29 too? A modem can affect the 3G/4G/Wifi speeds, GPS, and signal strength. Usually, phones handle each differently so performance is different depending on the phone. I've been using the FG31 modem and it's been the best for me. You might want to try a different modem. You can get those here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1764210.
Just trying to help here dude. Hope you get it figured out.

That seems to work outside.. Looks like it is a daemon sleep issue that has been in the phone since they first released it... We saw this same issue on the Samsung Moment years ago.... It is just samsung's crappy software implementation.
I have seen this too on various roms including stock el29. Thanks to this and Sprints crappy service I no longer expect nav to work on my phone. I have tomtom in my car and with me on most trips. It was worth every penny.
As an updated, I am on the rooted stock FF18 with the FF18 modem (flashed from the odin root stock file)... GPS still has a problem with teh daemon going to sleep but if I turn gps off and turn it right back on I get an immediate lock and I continue to get a lock until i let the phone sleep for prolonged periods of time.
Just need to make an app to check GPS state on wakeup and if it is on have it turn it off and back on upon wakeup...
FF18 blazer and with the FH13 modem, and I can't get a single lock to save my life. Inside or out. In detroit btw.

[Q] GPS not locking on stock 4.3 or AOSP 4.4.4 [Illinois/ Indiana]

Can anyone post their GPS conf file from 4.3 or even 4.4.
edit: If you live in Chicago / Indianapolis area, I'd like if you can post your gps.conf file located in /etc/ or /system/etc/
I am having GPS lock issues on NON-KNOX ROM's both Stock 4.3 and SlimRom 7.8 (4.4.4). I am on MK3 baseband, with a non-knox bootloader, and it really doesnt seem like a hardware issue since I know it used to work fine back 4 months ago, and I used to get instant locks on 4.2.
I know the antenna's are not being really affected as I have cleaned up all contacts on the motherboard. I have an external antenna hooked up to the wifi and GPS antenna contact points. And wifi is strong, but no locks on GPS. 18 in view, 0 to 3 fixed, but none lock. Obviously I am outside.
I have already followed these links, which most threads go to. SO I am thinking its some config.

Also yes, I have cleared AGPS data, and reset via GPS Status.apk on both Stock and AOSP.
Other thoughts?

WI-Fi and GPS fixes? I can't find them anywhere

I'm back to playing around with the Note 2 (SGH-t889), though now the T-Mobile version instead of Sprint. Seems there are a lot of the same bugs or bumps in the road with this version. Wi-Fi and GPS seem to be weak points in ROMs and die often. I remember that there were patches available somewhere, but I can't find them here on XDA using the built-in search function. I found a thread for the n7100 crowd disassembling their Note 2's, but that is not what I am referring to (nor did any of them have any success). Both of these problems are software related and can be fixed with software.
Does anyone have links to the threads, or files, required to:
fix GPS if you can't get a lock (location currently unavailable)
turn on Wi-Fi if it can't be turned on
EDIT
I kept searching, and while I didn't find any files, I did solve my GPS not working. I had backed down from 4.4.2 to 4.1.x to solve an IMEI problem and then GPS stopped working. Resetting to factory defaults and giving it a minute got GPS working. This time around, I have not had a Wi-Fi problem.
For anyone else following behind, here are some good links:

GPS Issues on N based roms, please help

Since I installed the first N OOS build i have issues withmy GPS,
every few seconds it lost the lock and needed a few seconds to reacquire it.
Also sometimes it does not acquire ay lock at all and need a reboot to work again.
As far as I can tell the issue happens with every android N based OxygenOS.
And also with Lineage OS 14.1
I tryed clean flashing booth and it did not change anything.
Now I flashed back to the last MM based community build and it works no lost of GPS signal, reasomably quick fix.
Does any other users also have GPS issues with N based roms on the OP3?
How can I solve the issue or at least find out whaty causing the issues?
Funny you mention this. I use my op3 for my topo maps when I hike and I have found N based roms to cause the gps to require a relocking. Also, the gps is noticeably less accurate.
Anyone got an explanation/solution?
good to herar that I'm not the only one with GPS issues.
Now the question is how to fix those?
I am also facing GPS issues since Oxygen OS 4.x.x, before that I never experienced any.
Sometimes it take 5 to 10 minutes until it finally fetches a GPS Signal but it is still very inaccurate then.
Hopefully the new OOS 4.0.3 update helps, but I doubt it since there is no mention of GPS in the release notes.
I also have this issue, the only resolution I had is to switch on WiFi scanning. After turning it on GPS has been a bit better and locks to the correct location quickly.
Sent from my OnePlus3 using XDA Labs
Ok I found out something new when I set mobile data to 2G GPS works great also on the 4.0.3 OOS ROM.
And since people complained since the start that some have issues with GPS and 4G I guess the issue really is that if some particular frequencies are used GPS suffers. Apparently something changes in N ROMs that makes the issues appear for more users.
Interestingly is that flashing Modem Firmware has no affect so the issue is in a part that is in the android kernel itself.

Every time I turn location on, I get the "improve location accuracy?" prompt. Every single time.
How can I stop this? Never had this before, usually goes away after one enable.
Another strange thing sometimes the GPS cant get a lock and the only way to fix it is to restart the phone.
the bew Open Beta 12 based on Android 7.1.1 seams to have resolved my GPS issue really strange
Hi - I also do have heavy problems with losses of GPS- signal at the OP3 since months. Especially while using LTE the GPS gets often lost. Since 5 weeks I am working/struggeling with the OP-support a lot - but no changes till now. @David: "Open Beta 12" has solved your problems?? what is this concrete?
i do have the problem...... from 4.0.2 updated to 4.1.1 and now Beta13, the problem still there~!!
On my phone gps signal gets lost always at the same location and when lte is active. On any other location gps works perfect. When i disable lte everything works perfect. This has happend on any rom. I think this is a hardware problem and can not be resolved. The only solution is disabling lte or using a different provider. I am using o2 in Germany, the problem does not happen with other Providers. Different Providers have different frequencies, this might be the difference between o2 and the other providers.
I do have O2-LTE too and it is "under suspicion" in Germany. But in February I was for 4 weeks in Florida and travelled a lot using navigation. The provider was AT&T - and I had very often losses of GPS-signal too.
I can confirm, that the problem happens with different ROM, but not at only one location - it happens everywhere.
But what can we do? OnePlus is working at this problem since months without a solution - and the customer with this bug really have to accept it "for zero"??
Hello @OPFan , did you get help from the support? Or could you resolve the problem?
3 months of contact - lots of bubbles - no solution
try downloading the "Gps Test "app then enable GPS and open the app and click on the 3 dots > AGPS > Clear and update

this was one of the thousands of tryings - but also with zero effect
I'm having a lot of GPS issues since I've been using OPO or OP3.
I sold my OPO because of the bad GPS. Now I have the OP3.
On both phones I used custom ROM Cyanogenmod.
I sometimes had bad GPS reception, but this was fixed under Cyanogenmod doing this: Disable GPS, Disable Data, Enable Airplane mode, Disable Airplane mode, Enable Data, Enable GPS, then wait for GPS reception and start navi app.
Last week I flashed my OP3 with another ROM (AOSP) but this only made it worse!
I use my phone as car navigation daily, and while navigating, it finds GPS and it loses GPS every 5 seconds (using WAZE app). It's incredibly annoying. Using AGPS or any other "fix" found online doesn't fix the problem.
When using another navigation app, like Google nav, it's works better (because Google also uses LTE). Clearing cache or unistalling and reinstalling the WAZE app doesn't fix the problem.
Conclusion:
It is totally not related to your provider because they are working on fixed standard frequencies and I've been using the same provider on both phones.
It's also not related to the hardware only, because it was working on my OP3 under Cyanogenmod. So it should be related to the hardware driver included in the ROM.
Maybe this gives anyone an idea?

I have also GPS issues. It works well in gmaps, but it is unusable in Waze.
I thought AOSPA was causing it so I cleanflashed latest OB, but GPS issues are present there too

On and off GPS issues

For awhile now I've had issues with the GPS on my i9192 where, using GPS Test, it will:
See multiple satellites but not get a lock
Seemingly "freeze" (satellite signal levels in GPS Test stop fluctuating)
Sometimes work fine
Sometimes only see 2 or 3 satellites despite being in a good location
These issues translate into GPS problems in my maps application (Here Maps), e.g. the maps app will be unable to get a lock, sometimes showing it has a lock for a second and then losing it again, which makes GPS navigation impossible.
I'm wondering if anyone else has experienced issues like this and whether they found any resolution, or whether anyone has any ideas as to what the cause might be.
I've tried:
Resetting/updating the AGPS settings in GPS Test
Editing gps.conf through FasterGPS
Editing gps.conf manually with various settings (rebooting after each change just in case)
Changing ROMs (from CM to LineageOS 14.1)
My feeling (and hope) is that it's a software issue since it seems to work better after a reboot (though not always). My next troubleshooting step will be to install a stock ROM and see if it resolves the issue, unless anyone else has a better idea. In particular I'm wondering if flashing a different modem/baseband would affect the GPS performance. Right now I'm on XXUCOA2.
Anyone have any thoughts?
An update: After reverting to a stock ROM, GPS performance was vastly improved, with no sign of the troubles getting a lock as was the case with LineageOS 14.1 and the CM ROM I used before that. I'm now trying to go back to Lineage OS 14.1 to see if the flash of the stock ROM (and new baseband) may have fixed it, but initial tests using GPS Test suggest that the ability of the GPS to get a lock is not as good as stock (too early to tell if I'll have the same problems not getting a lock at all).
It seems I have a similar problem right now. I'm using the lineage-14.1-20180624-nightly-serranoltexx-signed image for a long time. But last summer I noticed that GPS fix takes longer time to obtain and it's instable. Now I can't use navigation due to this problem.
