I came across this running a few Lollipop AOSP ROMS (Scrosler, Screw'd, SimpleAOSP). It seems that the issue is on any AOSP Lollipop ROM, Google Play Movies and TV app cannot play videos. The videos will list in the app, but if you try to play them, you will get a message about an unsupported device. The app works on the Google Factory Lollipop image, and seems to be specific to AOSP. One of the developers has also experienced this. Just wanted to confirm with some others, and find out if there is a way to submit this as a bug?
Thanks

So I have what seemed like a stable version of Cyanogenmod 11 working, Google now works and most other things. But if I try to play the Transformer movie or even the sample they include I get a black screen with "Playback isn't supported on this device". This seems to come up immediately and I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem and is there a fix or workaround for it at this point. I know I can install another player MX for instance and hopefully that will play, but i'd like to use "Play movies & TV" google app. thanks anyone ?
Think it still doesn't work if rooted, but could be wrong

I'm not sure if it's related, but I'm having this exact issue with Play Movies & TV App. I'm running the latest OmniROM FLO nightly.
Does anybody know where to place files, in a file manager, so that they show up in Google Play Movies? I'd like to Cast a a movie I downloaded...from somewhere else.

Hey all,
So I installed CM 11 on my S3 today and was downloading a Google Play Movie I got in HD but the download only shows 350mb. But if I use stock rom it downloads and streams in HD. Anyone have a solution to this? Any help would be appreciated thanks! :fingers-crossed:
Might be related to drm. Otherwise im just not sure. Have you tried a different cm/aosp based rom?
Yes infact I have tried few other roms too. However now it is doing something strange. It says that I have already downloaded to the max number of devices. Unfortunately, I don't have some of those devices anymore to unpin the downloads from. Is there any way I can delete the downloads online or something?
That im not sure about as I dont use google for movies or media. If nobody else knows you can try to email google support to see if they can do that on their end.
Sorry I dont know about your initial problem. Hopefully someone who knows more about cm than me will have an idea for you.
Due to CM11 bugs. Latest version of youtube is not working properly (can't play a video).
So, what is the best youtube version for CM11 user??
I considered as ogyoutube since it have a number of feature. But its rather old for our new cm11. Latest ogyoutube still unable to log in. And that is not our choice.
So is there anyother alternative? Maybe official one that still working with our devices, or anyother youtube apps replacement.
Thanks.
Hd YouTube..
5.3.32 working fine for me.
5.3.32 work good.
Even though the video seem a little pixelated.
Og youtubev6 oftenly crashing with cm11.
Does anyone have the same problem with me?
Have any suggestion to fix the crash?
So I've recently tried upgrading from CM12 to a couple of different ROMS based on CM13 (Tamasek and Purity). With either rom I find that when I try to watch purchased Youtube videos I get an error of "This video is not playable on this device". I posted a message here as well as contacted google support and got some interesting feedback. In short Google stated that cyanogenmod stopped supporting DRM with CM13 and as such CM13 and CM14 will not play purchased videos from youtube or any other service.
My question is this. As being able to play back my purchased videos is somewhat a core feature that I need is there a Marshmallow rom out there that supports this type of playback, or am I SOL? From here on out when I want a new version of android I'll need to buy a new device?
Due to the unstable stock ROMs on my T800, I recently installed a 7.1.2 ROM. Everything is running fine except I have lost the ability to play movies in HD from services such as Google Play and Vudu.
Does anyone here know of the requirements these services look for to play movies in HD? When I sent a support email to Vudu it did some checks, one of which was for HDCP which came up as "unprotected". Is there something I can install to get HD back?
Thanks.
UPDATE: It appears that Google Play is allowing HD after all, at least on LineageOS. Vudu though is still an issue. Filed a support request with them.
