screen to dark? - Galaxy Tab S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi folks,
t800 stock rom with nova launcher. Find the screen brightness a bit dim, have set to auto brightness with +3
Anyone else find the auto brightness naff?
Cheers
mick

For me when using auto brightness its a bit darker then without it. Without auto bright ness on and setting it halfway its a bit brighter. Of course amoled makes blacks darker or exactly black.

Contrast Setting?

I know there is a BRIGHTNESS setting for the TP2's screen, but is there a CONTRAST setting anywhere? Any screen that has a black or dark color to it is not as sharp (on my phone, anyway) as my TP1 (Fuze). A sharper black will make all colors appear more brilliant and sharper. Is there a way to adjust the CONTRAST -- whether by a control setting or a registry tweak? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks to all in advance!
The screen has neither a brightness nor a contrast control in the normally-accepted sense of those terms. What it has is the ability to vary the intensity of the backlight, which is quite different. Even if it did have a contrast control, that would affect whites, not blacks. If black is not dark enough then your only option is to make the backlight dimmer. That, of course, will have no effect on sharpness.

[Q] Samsung Focus: Hack to Disable Screen Dim on all White Screens (like Email)

Is there currently a hack, custom ROM, or other way to prevent the screen from dimming way down when on screens with lots of white (like the email/Outlook screen). Even when I have brightness set to "HIGH" and Auto to "OFF", all the other screens are really bright. But when I go to the email screen (or any other app that has a white background), the Focus automatically dims it way down. I'm sure this is to save battery or eye-strain on white screens, but I'd like it to be much brighter if possible.
Thanks!
Yeah, It's look hard but I want it on my HD7 too.
because the auto-brightness on WP7 was not smart so much compare to the other.
It's not give the lowest brightness when enter into the dark room (that's hurt my eye) and not bright enough when enter into the sunlight.
Nope. It's programmed into the pentile display driver. Total deal-breaker for me.

The auto-brightness setting in WP7 adjusts a screen's brightness based only on the ambient light sensor. The Focus and Omnia 7 dim their screen if they're displaying a majority of white pixels, even with auto-brightness off and set to high.
Switch to the white theme. It happens so frequetly now that I don't even register it!
OK, so that's not a solution but give it a go, it bugged the hell out of me at the start but now ive forgotten it even does it.
I understand why they've done it, but really it should follow the brightness setting if they're worked about battery life.

Auto brightness settings

Hi. I need some help setting the auto brightness values to get a brighter screen, since the original are kind of dark. I'm looking to achieve something retina-like. I'm on AOKP 4.2.2.

Adjust ambient display brightness?

Is there a way to brighten the ambient display, such as the clock and notifications that appear? I can barely see it in the sun. I had no problem seeing my moto z play in the sun.

If you go into settings / display there is a brightness slider that you can use to manually set the screen at a brighter level. I'm not sure if that recalibrates the base Android uses in its ambient settings or not. If you just are used to a brighter screen and find that the ambient setting continues to make the screen dimmer than you like after using the slider you can just turn the ambient display feature off entirely. I personally like the feature but a lot of people don't and just turn it off.
There are also apps in the Play Store that allow you to manually adjust the screen brightness without going into the settings menu, if you want to have easier control over it.

I know that the AOKP ROM allows alot of modifications to the ambient display brightness settings. Other ROMs may do the same but I know and use the settings on AOKP. It's a very good ROM! Native settings don't have the options.
AOKP and Pixel Dust are the two roms I know of that have this option.
You don't need a ROM to kick in higher brightness on auto brightness.
Just root and install ElementalX kernel or one based on it.
Then install this widget and once toggled, it will give you way more max brightness on auto brightness.

I noticed that my wife's phone has significantly brighter ambient display. They have identical settings as far as I can tell. So I'm not sure but I would love to find out the answer cause I want mine brighter too
Go to advanced display settings and toggle off the option to wake the screen with new notifications, then turn off the lift to view gesture. Your ambient display should brighten significantly.
