[Q] Help with soft/hard bricked phone/ - G3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I've bought a Hong Kong D855 from ebay when I was visiting US (I'm from Brazil) and for some months it worked flawlessly. SOme 2 months ago it started rebooting and I had to factory reset it. It happened twice a month and every time I had to factory reset, for it would boot normaly and reboot after a few seconds.
So I got to avoid updating apps and avoided installing new ones, because I couldn't find a definite solution on the web.
It was stable for a month but yesterday it happened again, but this time, after a few reboots into the OS, it froze in the LG logo screen.
And this time I can't even hard reset it - it just freezes on the same screen. I tried everything I found on the net - removing the battery, trying download mode (it goes directly to the same LG logo screen) and even just charging is weird (it shows an image of an empty battery with a frozen loading "animation").
I never rooted or did anything besides updating the firmware OTA. I'm on vacation on the beach, so I don't have with me the original charger (I'm using a samsung note 10.1 2014 one) and I don't know what else I could do.
As I've bought it overseas, LG won't cover it with a warranty, so have it officially repaired would be my last resort.
Does anyone have an idea what I could try? Or is it game over for me?
Thanks for any help, folks...

You might want to try and do a .KDZ Flash in order to take your device back to stock.

i have the same issue but it wont let me go into download mode either due to this problem
Bootloop/Error Code 1006
As of this morning, I am getting the exact same error - just started doing it while sitting on the wireless charger. Removed battery for half-hour, removed SD card - nothing helps. All I get is brief flashes of the LG splash screen, then nothing.
If battery removed and USB plugged in, I only get a battery/flashing question mark symbol on the display and phone does not power up.
Phone is maybe two months old, not rooted, so am very disappointed in my first LG phone since enjoying a few HTCs (Hero, Evo 4G).
Let's hope the Sprint store backs up their TEP with a brand new phone today...

I bought mine a week ago too :/
What month was your device manufactured? You can check on the outside sticker on the original box (if you still have it)
Mine was made in May and i'm having this problem. I think there was a bad batch made shortly before release that had defects. Here are some others with the same problem with phones made in May
lol just send em in on warranty.

yup. you're right. i'll be doing this soon
My problem this, please check solution please
my g4, 818P just had boot loop this morning. suddenly it was restarted and when I looked at it I really wish its not a boot loop, i did have a bad feeling and it became true. damn. I guess its the may batch *I cannot find the manufactured date but I pre ordered this, so this is maybe the first batch.
I took the battery out, SD card, sim card, no luck. Then, I let it boot loop for few times. I don't know maybe after tens restarts it show Android is starting and optimizing apps *and its still optimizing 56 of 116*. This is the second time, the first time when it was optimizing 17 apps *and I picked it up* the device suddenly restarted and stuck in boot loop again.
After read the reddit thread its the same symptom. I guess it really need to be replaced with *refurbished like new device* its just like a second-handed device after you had pre-ordered it.

LG G3 Hard Bricked itself a day after un-hard bricking

So yesterday i managed to unbrick my hard bricked LG G3. So i eagerly went and got a sim adapter today and started loading all my apps and stuff on. Long story short it got tonight and I was putting the last of my music on it and it stopped, I thought to myself that's odd and proceeded to try and turn the LG G3's screen on only to find it wouldn't respond. Restarted but it wouldn't get past the LG logo so i turned it off and tried recovery mode, wouldn't boot into that either. Last resort was download mode and that failed too. So two days after fixing the hard brick its hard bricked again :crying: anyone got any ideas as to why this would happen ?

Nexus 5X won't boot or even get into recovery (even after reflashing TWRP)

Greetings!
My girlfriend's Nexus 5X recently got stuck into boot loop. What I tried to fix it:
- Completely discharging it and charging it again
- Get into recovery mode - after going to the bootloader and choosing recovery mode, the phone reboots to the google logo
- I tried reflashing system, boot and recovery with TWRP - still the phone reboots when trying to get into recovery mode
What else can I try, having in mind that I can't get into recovery or boot it at all? The bootloader is unlocked, so I can try flashing anything.
You could try the BLOD-fix boot/recovery images on other threads in this forum.
If the phone is still in warranty (and even if it's not), I'd suggest getting in touch with your local LG repair people.
My wife's Google Nexus 5x died yesterday too after updating. Go to load recovery mode, and it does nothing. I can get into developer boot screen, but that's it... Nothing works. Her bootloader is locked though, so no flashing anything. Any idea on how to contact Google about getting a replacement?

No point contacting google, you have to go to the manufacturer LG wherever they happen to be in your country. A simple replacement phone will only potentially have the same issue - its a hardware problem and the PCB/motherboard must be replaced. I had a brand new phone (well 'brand new' as bought in 2016 but only unboxed last Tuesday lol) which didn't last 6 hours before getting overly hot and going into bootloop...tried a factory reset and got into setup but it shutdown and bootlooped again halfway through. Fortunately it was within the 2 year warranty period, so LG authorised the replacement motherboard on Thursday (1 hour wait as a walk-in service) and it has been fine (and cool!) ever since.
As a bonus, they upgraded it from 6.0 to 7.1.2, which LG considers the "latest" stable version for the 5x.

LG G3 D855 blackscreen right after booting logo

Okay, so i have an LG G3 D855, few months ago it worked like a charm.. But then shortly after i started noticing random reboots everytime during using apps. Then it went in bootloop. I tried to turn it on again, entered recovery screen, choosed factory reset and it did, but then it went through the same process, random restart. Eventually stuck up in factory resetting screen. However i think i made mistake when the phone freezed in reset screen : pulling out the battery. later it lost its IMEI & kept heating up (probably tried to find its cellular framework of some sort).
Days passed, several factory resets has been done. Now the phone's at its worst state. It refused to get past the boot logo. everytime it finishes booting, the display just goes black, tried to plug usb charger, chargin indicator doesn't want to turn on, neither after i pulled out the battery. I have to leave it a few days to get it working again, but it keeps persisting.
Addition : The phone's also feels warm post the blackscreen.
Any thoughts whether can this be fixed or i have to replace something inside the phone's board?
thanks in advance.

Reflash with lgup.
Remove the SIM card and the memory card. try again. Full wipe system data ...
I've had the same problem. I've tried. Worked
found the problem. memory card
EDIT: Some kind of voodoo happened right now! I was about to unbrick again and wanted to give the phone a try to boot before. And it did! So no problem at the moment, but still a strong feeling of uncertainty...
EDIT: Phone is still randomly rebooting and gets stuck in bootloops

Hej guys, I really need your advice,
but first things first: Thank you very much for all of your wonderful work on custom roms and further support of older devices. I've been reading here for a few years now and was more or less happy to have up-to-date-roms for some of my phones.
Now I'm facing quite the same problem like OP did / does. Everything started with me, following this guide to root my D855 (coming from stock rom) and flash TWRP: you tube.com/watch?v=8VOgM3jLas4 (Note: The guide told me to flash "3__HacerPermisivo.zip" for updating the kernel, which I did.)
Next, I flashed a newer version of TWRP ("twrp-3.2.3-0-d855.img") than the one provided in "2__AutoRecMMD855.apk" by the guide above. I wiped dalvik and cache and after that, I flashed "lineage-15.1-20190410-nightly-d855-signed.zip", wiped dalvik and cache again and flashed "open_gapps-arm-8.1-pico-20190411.zip". I wiped dalvik and cache again and told TWRP to reboot.
Here is, where problems began to occur. The phone got into a bootloop, showing up the LG splash screen again and again instead of booting into LOS correctly and set it up. At some point I decided to remove the battery. When I did, at the same time LOS was just going to load, which I saw because of its beginning boot animation. So I screwed it up right at the wrong moment, I guess.
From here, the phone bootlooped every time, I wanted it to start. No battery acrobatics helped and on top I couldn't get it into recovery mode. Any attempts ended in bootloops. I think, this might be what is called a brick / to brick your device, isn't it? I found this guide to unbrick a D855 and followed its steps: open -freax.fr/guide-unbrick-your-lg-g3/
Believe me, it was a real pain in the ass! Because of me, messing up something or the phone getting stuck into a bootloop during the unbrick process, I had to do it 4 to 5 times until success... I have to say: I didn't follow the last steps beginning from "Root". Instead, I followed the guide from the beginning of my post.
Finally, I got "lineage-15.1-20190410-nightly-d855-signed.zip" and "open_gapps-arm-8.1-pico-20190411.zip" to run. I set it up and began to load some of my apps of my Play Store collection. While downloading, the phone froze, crashed and began to bootloop, from here unable to boot normally or to get into recovery mode. So I unbricked and flashed again (again several times because of bootloops before LOS first set up). When I got it to work again, I was able to install my apps without being trolled by the phone again. But scrolling through the eBay app froze the phone and it began bootlooping again...
You can believe me, I was about to throw the D855 against the hardest piece of wall, I could possibly find in my rage. The reason why I didn't give up at this point is, that I LOS-rommed two other D855s just a few days before. Those were my mom's and my girlfriend's and they work fine until today. I bought this third one for myself, because I was impressed, how good LOS worked on the D855s. On top I wanted to get rid of my Samsung Galaxy S4 (GT-I9515), because LOS kinda sucks on it, but this is another story...
So I figuered that the earlier LOS version I used for the women's phones, could solve the problem. So I unbricked again and flashed "lineage-15.1-20190327-nightly-d855-signed.zip" and "open_gapps-arm-8.1-pico-20190329.zip". And hell yeah, that did work! No bootloops, eBay worked fine, just everything was as I loved it on the other phones, I flashed. Until tonight. I've been lucky for almost two days, but tonight this happened: I plotted a route in Google Maps and saved it as a shortcut on my homescreen. I closed Maps and tapped the route icon. Freeze - crash - bootloop - no recovery mode! I wanted to start crying, because Maps has already worked fine yesterday. And it still does on the other two phones, which run exactly the same rom...
So now, I'm sitting here, not knowing what can be done further. I'm not a programmer / developper or any of those cracks providing us the newest software for old phones. So I just can do wild guesses. Maybe the moment I removed the battery the very first time after flashing messed something up very deep inside the phones internals and it can not be cured any more. Maybe some of you guys have experienced similar things and know a tweak or a simple step, I forgot. Anyway, I hope I can use my phone on LOS some day which I bought especially for this case.
Keep up the great work, folks!

I ordered a new mainboard. It should arrive within 3 weeks. I'll keep you updated.

Anyway it will get past the lg logo and start bootlooping at the att circle/emblem-every time until the battery dies. Hopefully i didnt break amy rules again i havent been on in awhile but this really is beyond frustrating my whole life in that phone and idk last time i backed it up but its been awhile. THANK YOUA to ANYONE that can help point me in righht direction. Also i forgot to mention non rooted completely stock.
So you've already held power and volume down at the same time with the phone on?
I am too having the same problem. Mine is a T-Mobile LG G8, stock non rooted, got updated last week and then acted funny(some apps crashed), I restarted it won't reststart; Stucked on some LG-G8 screen. I hard reset it (Vol Down-Power/LG Screen, release and then hold power button; and then hard reset), After that: it stuck on boot loop.
What I can try next?

When my update came through on T-Mobile it got stuck at the Tmo splash screen. Pressed the power and volume down until it turned black and let go. It rebooted normally after.

Hi guys, am just a newbie here from Malaysia and a new owner of a 2nd hand LG G8 ThinQ (LM-G820UM); no idea where it's from but got it already with Android 10 update.
'twas working perfectly fine for a few days, but suddenyl got stuck in bootloop after I reboot (Power + Volume Down buttons) the phone when I was trying to change to a different SIM card. It would remain in bootloop until the battery is drained.
I can connect it to my laptop and seems to be detected pretty good and able to switch to Download Mode, but can't re-flash with either Flash Tool or LGUP.
- Have tried to use different Flash Tool versions - in version 2014, the flashing will just stop at server error, in 2016 and 2025 versions it will require LGST login (apparently to connect to some server which require registration).
- same goes true for LGUP, both versions 1.14 and 1.16 (patched version) will just stop at 4% then the apps will close without any error or anything happening in the phone.
Appreciate any help to recover this phone which I paid for a few hundred dollars as I was impressed with the spec and was so delighted to a very good spec phone; then this happened.
Thanks!

I'm in the same boat but with ATT. LM-G820UM I believe. Completely stock software. I just had it sitting on the charging dock for a while and I came back to it and it was stuck in a bootloop. No idea what's caused it, but I can't seem to get it to stop for anything. This is one of the many reasons I find not having a removable battery deeply upsetting :/
okay will try that as soon as i can get this thing to boot normal again it now stuck on the lg g8s screen think i flashed the wrong abl_a and abl_b files
Has there been any progress in getting this fixed?
Other than flashing the entire stock kdz not sure what else can be done...
