HD Widgets Works - Fire TV Themes and Apps

I don't know how, but HD Widgets works just fine on my Fire TV. I've attached a screenshot (this is Nova Launcher). Too bad I can't do wallpaper as well.

I hate how Amazon had the nerve to remove widget support for all other launchers.
Nice find with the HD widgets thing!

Do I understand you correctly that you're using Nova Launcher and HD Widgets on a Fire TV box?
I use both on my Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1.
Think they'd work on the stick?

I can confirm Nova Prime and HD Widgets work on my rooted AFTV with Rbox's mods. Was using Fired TV until I read these posts. No comparison. Now have an App Drawer, a Dock if I want it, and the ability to Drag icons around. Can't change wallpaper. Icons are resizable, can be dragged mid-grid and number Rows and Columns is adjustable. Icons and Labels can be edited. Haven't got around to trying Gestures and other features like Folders.

Does not look like it but you do need this:

Exposed is required too.

I've been rooted since day one so i really don't know. Try installing Exposed. If it loads then see if you can install and select the Rbox mods.

I am using Square Home Launcher Tablet version but the proper way for nova to work is to move around the app drawer icon etc.. with a mouse and add your shorcuts.
Then simply use remote because icons will be close to each other.
Correct?

This is the launcher I installed but haven't messed with on a couple of unRooted FireTV Stick's... Thanks for the heads up Patt2k.... Plan to install it on my Rooted FireTV's but was wondering how much can be done on a unRooted FireTV Stick. I gave the FireTV sticks as gifts so I won't get to play with them to often... But would like know if they have any limitations... I think LLama or MacroDroid can be use to make it launch seconds after the AFTV starts...
Have you tried to change the backgrounds & add widgets to the Square Home Launcher ?? Got any more picks of your latest setup ? I think either one, if not all launchers will need a mouse for moving stuff around since they are made for touch devices... Unless they are specifically made for the FireTV.
Has anybody tried HD Widgets on an unRooted FireTV or FireTV Stick ??

Yes.
Personally, I'm using a Logitech keyboard and mouse through a Unifiying dongle, which lets me attach both without using a hub: the dongle came with the mouse, and then I paired the keyboard with the dongle using my PC, because moving the dongle to the Fire TV. I've also found, interestingly, that this keyboard works with CWM Recovery and the bootloader menu.
To answer another question: any launcher will work without root, but it won't launch on boot, or come up when you hit the "Home" key, which means Fired TV is probably still your best bet if you lack root.

Yes I know but I was just making sure because Nova Launcher basically with remote had no functionality.. that's why I am using Square Home Launcher you might wanna check it out. After you customize your icons it's perfect.

In my case I literally had an extra mouse (mice, actually) and keyboard lying around, and so attaching them to the Fire TV didn't involve any trouble or expense. However, I think anyone who would like the ability to use apps designed for a touchscreen is going to want to have a mouse available on occasion--and it's not like you need it for launching apps once you have Nova set up. Therefore, I don't see any advantage to a launcher that can be set up solely with the remote.

I am using Squarehome Launcher on my non rooted fire tv and it works well except the preferences won't open. Anyone know why this is. I can even change the wallpaper on it but when I select options or preferences it just closes back to the launcher home screen. Works great on my rooted fire tv.

Probably not. But since it's hackable I'm sure it's possible one way or another.

No they are using a modified version of ics with a completely customised front end as opposed to just a launcher that can be replaced.
However there will be modders who can make it access traditional android launcher and play store but no it won't officially and will only do so unofficially once people have had device to hack it.

Yes it will
The odk has a launcher with framework. It is available on their website.
didn't they say its fully open source and rooted? im sure someone will bring different launchers to the console, maybe not a day after the release, but im pretty sure that will be possible. Now the question is, most of our launchers are touch-based, i can not imagine how you can use them with a gamepad.

Plug in a PS3 or Xbox controller to your Android device and you'll find out Most, if not all, launchers work with a controller. Hitting the navigation pad/stick moves from one icon to the next.

It's not fully open source.
http://www.ouya.tv/the-o-word/
Please note that we’re still working on releasing the source code for various elements of the ODK — and since some of it is compiled object code, you won’t have access (at least not today) to every single line we’ve written. We want to be sure things are in really great shape before we release code. Also, we will be holding back some sections of the code to preserve the security of OUYA, especially when it comes to payments for developers and gamers.

It is fully rootable, but it doesn't come rooted.
For hackers: root it. Go ahead. Your warranty is safe. Even the hardware is hackable. Want to get inside? You’ll need a standard screwdriver and nothing more. Go to town. We have standard USB ports and Bluetooth, so you’ll even be able to create your own peripherals.

It's not locked down in any way so I'm pretty sure someone will code a custom launcher for it. May not be ADW or NOVA but I am sure someone will make one.
i don't know that, but we can wait for the cm stock rom
Do you think they are ever gonna update it to android 4.1 or 4.2? Or is that just a waste.

I could have sworn that an official from the team said something about stock launchers. The product is supposedly going to be launched with an easily unlocked mechanism for quick and powerful tweaking. This is supposed to be day one. If you want the ouya launcher download the SDK from OUYA.tv and install the framework and launcher via regular side load. Proven to work on the nexus 7 and I can vouch for the Nook tablet 16GB from first hand experience. Does not look good on a phone though. In order to run the latest addition you need android 4.1+

I sideloaded Nova Launcher very easily onto my Ouya. No modification needed. Works great. Little difficult to navigate with the controller, but definitely doable. Can access your Ouya games there and everything. Much more smooth than the Ouya launcher, that's for sure.

[Q] Do I need a new launcher?

I have been using xbmc for a while but I am new to using it on top of android. I recently sold me AppleTv and made the swtich to the Fire and I am very happy with my decision so far. That said launching the apps is a real pain. If I could get them in the actual fireTv menu this would be much more ideal as I am sure everyone agrees. To my knowledge that is still not possible at this point. So I am curious how everyone is running their apps. I have read some about launchers in XBMC is this the way to go? What is the best way to set this up?
Thanks

sideload firedtv its the best option i've found for myself
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2782307
I use XBMC as my launcher. You can add apps to your favourites to launch them easily or even integrate them into your skin if your skin permits it. Works very well so far. Only thing I use the Amazon launcher for is to force stop an App if it is stuck, still looking for a suitable app manager for this so I can ditch the Amazon launcher all together.
Is there any way to get the best of both worlds and use the fired launcher as the stock launcher but still be able to load apps from within XBMC. I am trying to keep this as user friendly as possible for the family who is a little overwhelmed by xbmc still.

This XBMC Launcher gives the best of both worlds and works great. There is a bit of a learning curve, as the Fire TV must be rooted for it to work. But well worth the effort when completed.

Just backup your XBMC User Data, uninstall current version, install the XBMC Launcher and finally restore XBMC User Data. Believe me, it is absolutely worth the trouble as this launcher is the best option out there at this time. FiredTV is OK but nowhere near as functional and allowing for many features. This launcher literally morphs the Fire TV into an XBMC box.

Fire TV 2 (Rooted rbox) What mods/Xposed Modules do you have installed & working?

hey guys, hope this thread is ok, just thought id create one post for all to post what exactly they have installed so far with the latest root for the fire tv 2 (rbox)
i along with maybe many others, is new to rooting the fire tv, having owned a 1st gen back on launch i switched it for a htpc back before they was rootable so never got the chance to root one
now i have a 2nd gen, rooted, and looking to get it looking ass much like stock android as possible
i plan on using nova launcher as the default launcher
would love to get live wallpapers working with this (has anyone installed the module for this yet with the ftv 2? )
and of course, when available, id love to have the playstore up and running, ive been keeping my eye on threads about this
so, please feel free to share what you have installed and how well it works
I also thought about starting a thread the same as this.... I've tried Nova on here, & also been wondering what modules everyone has tried or using, only one I've heard threw the forum is a few using rbox's launcher module (not sure what its called?) so they can use there 3 party launcher as a main launcher (belive it's the same module that worked on AFTV gen 1). Hopefully this can be a good little thread if everyone helps.
Also tried to get playstore running but get as far as the 976 error when trying to install or update anything? Also tried with the Market helper apk, & using it on a 3rd party launcher (TV launcher) & a few others but nothing? Only thing is do you need that rbox module to make it work? That is the only thing I haven't tried?

nova has always been my favourite launcher, i just last night got it set up on the shield too,
never played around with xposed modules so they are all completely new to me, ive learned little bits from some posts here already
i have used rbox fire tv mod, what i am looking for mostly is the way to install live wallpapers on nova launcher, im not sure if the method from fire tv gen 1 will work
anyone used this yet?
i agree that this could become a very helpful spot for people to head to if everyone who has tried different modules adds to it
Im using fake wifi connection and it make a difference on apps like FoodNetwork. I am wondering though how do you get to or watch amazon videos with nova launcher?
I have added some xposed modules I have used to my thread some I've tested & some I haven't because when people who are looking for compatible or non working apps/accessories can look in my thread & also see the modules too in one place. But you can add them here too if you like?
My thread for working & non working compatible apps/modules/accessories for root or non root you can find here -

Does anyone know if there is a version of Android TV Launcher that resembles the look of the new Android TV? (Like attached?)

it's only available for 8.0/9.0 I believe, but if anyone could hack it on to firestick 4k that would be awesome.
