Google Now/Now on Tap not working

So I am from one of those countries where Google Now/Now on Tap is not supported by Google. But I still want to enable it anyway...Need HELP.
It says 'This account is not eligible to use google now'. I have tried all the fix available on the internet but failed. Those are specially not working because they are for lollipop or for previous versions of Android; not for Marshmallow.
CAN ANYONE PLEASE HELP??
BTW, I am looking for both Rooted/non-Rooted methods..
Have you tried xposed framework? I saw that it's available for Marshmallow. It's what I used on my N4 to activate some US-only features because I had my system set to German.

No, I haven't. But I guess that would be a worthy try.. Okay, let's just say it's an option but before Rooting, I wanna try any other possible way.. Thanks..
So it's functional for all of you guys living outside the 'supporting countries'?
I was hoping there must be a way without Rooting... I want to use Google Now, please HELP!!!

Thanks but nothing worked.. It says 'This account is not eligible to use google now'.
I have tried to access US google play store through VPN but it didn't work. And Market Unlocker may work but it requires Root, which I don't want to do this early..
I was searching for a way to get past this too. Finally stumbled upon one after hours of messing around. Worked for me, hope it works for you too.
1. First download hotspot shield or any other vpn app from the playstore.
2. Disable google play services and sign out from your google account.
3. In Settings, go to location and choose "device only".
4. Download google play services from your browser.
5. Start hotspot shield and change location to America or any place where google now is available.
6. Install google play services that you've downloaded via your web browser (Please note that you have to allow installation of apps from unknown sources which can be done in security)
7. Sign in to your google account. You should be able to activate google now under Settings > Now Cards.
8. Once activated, uninstall google play services update that you've installed or disable it again and re-enable it. (If you are able to download apps from the playstore, then you can skip steps 8 to 11)
9. Turn off hotspot shield.
10. Go to apps, search for google playstore and clear data and cache.
11. Now go to google now and select update google play services.
Google Now should work now.

No ROOT is required here in this method, right?

Nope. No root required
NOPE. It didn't work.. When turning on Now Cards, it is disabled and says 'not available in your country'.
Seems Hotspot Shield didn't work. Probably Rooting and trying would be only option..

[how to] Fix the google contacts sync issue on CN ROM

This guide is to meant to attempt to save valuable time and frustration from anyone who needs google's contact sync.
Please keep all discussions polite.
So I need google apps on a daily basis and i tried to set up google on the chinese ROM .
And of course there is no Google contacts app so you need to put it in yourself.
I have looked at several guides and threads from XDA and MIUI Forum but they didn't seem to touch the critical steps for getting the contacts to sync with google.
After 2 days of trying...literally.., i figured out how to set the contact sync up reliably, not "reboot it and it will work after the reboot" sorta result.
If the following steps don't work for you, please let me know...I have tried this on 2 MIX 3's and they all worked after first attempt.
1, Enable google play services in Settings app -> system apps -> google play services
2, Download the Google play store from Apk Mirror:
https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/googl...8-23-all-0-pr-224256688-android-apk-download/
and the google contacts sync adapter:
https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/googl.../google-contacts-sync-9-android-apk-download/
And install them.
3, Open google play store, log in, and install Google contacts from the play store.
4, Give permissions to google contacts and contact sync adapter
*** Above steps are common to the threads i have read, and below are the key points ***
5, Enable on developer options by goto Settings->my phone(or something like that) -> full specs and tap MIUI version 7 times.
6, Go to settings -> additional settings -> developer options , scroll to the very bottom (last item) and disable "MIUI optimizations". Will explain why in later steps.
7, Download an "app permission setting" app such as (but not limited to) this one:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.fdd2hdd.AppPermissionInfo
8, Open the permission settings app and find Google contacts and Google contact sync adapter apps and grant all their required permission.
Once you are here you should notice that, the permission GUI opened from this permission app is different. The GUI here is more AOSP style, or vanilla android style, and this is what we need. The permission GUI from MIUI layer doesn't allow you to set this up.
******* End of the key steps************
9, Now if you go to settings->accounts->Google, you should see "contacts" in the sync options and it should work. If not, well, reboot lol, i think it should appear.
If this works for you, a "Thanks" button press is very much appreciated.

Chinese ROM doesn't have it installed so no need to uninstall it. Just run Google installer v3, set contacts permission and it works fine.

If I remember it does. That however may be the dev rom as I only set up the stock room once while I set up the dev rom multiple times. Dev rom install of contacts sync will fail.
Install Google installer v3 APK, let it install and go to contacts permission in settings and tick them all, job done - this has helped. Thank you!
not sure what the problem is, followed this guide to a T and still can't get contacts to show up in my google account to sync it. everything else like Gmail works no problem. i have every permission checked. i've uninstalled and reinstalled. i have the AOSP like sliders to turn things on after going to developer settings.
for some reason instead of contacts i get a people details sync but nothing for contacts will show up. so frustrating.
ok i wiped data and started from scratch and unfortunately same results. ****ing hell this never happened with original mi mix. i guess i'm stuck waiting for the 72 hours to be able to unlock unless anyone has other ideas.
EDIT - ------ FINALLY I got this working. the key is you have to downgrade the calendar sync app to 8.1 - it would not work with 9.0 for me for some reason. once i did this and followed the rest of your instructions it finally worked for me
Worked excellent in Mi 11 Pro! at 2022, I only wonder about what I'm losing by disbling the optimizations, but at the beginning it seems not a big deal... thanks!

YouTube vanced

Can anyone tell me how to install YouTube vanced on my non-rooted s4? I was able to install it on my old Sony (also non-rooted), but it's been a long time since and I forgot what I did to make it work!
Can anyone help me out?
Thanks
The instructions and files are provided on the website. https://youtubevanced.com/non-root
Preliminary step:
- Go to the app settings for YouTube > make sure to uninstall updates and disable the app
- In Google Play select YouTube, press the 3 dots button and uncheck auto-updates. (As Vance will get overridden with the original app if it updates).
THEN
1. Download and install the APK for arch (arm64-v8a)
2. Download and install MicroG after, in order to enable signing into your account.

Problem with Rooted Stock Rom with AirWatch

My company is now enforcing and managing BYOD with AirWatch. I'm trying to enrol my Magisk-rooted Pixel 2 XL. I've searched around XDA and other sites and I was able to enrol the phone when I use Magisk Hide to hide from the AirWatch agent, aka now the Intelligent Hub. It creates a Work profile and installed several work related apps. The only other app aside from Intelligent Hub I've tested so far is Boxer and it works for the few minutes during my test.
When I say Boxer works for a few minutes, that is because next I attempted to open Workspace One. As it loads, I'm guessing it checks other details about the phone, then it would popup a message saying Work apps and profile removing because the device is "compromised" and uninstall the work apps and Word profile.
I would like to use Magisk Hide and hide from Workspace One app, but Magisk Hide doesn't even list that and other apps in the Work profile. An admin at work checked the AirWatch server and it shows the device compromised detection with the status "Malicious file found - Check files in system or exec folder".
So my question is, outside of troubleshooting step by step from wiping phone and setting up each thing from scratch, anyone else have an insight on what else I can check?
FYI, these are the following setup I have on my phone
- Pixel 2 XL
- Rooted with latest version of Magisk and Manager
- Latest Pie 9.0 Aug 2019 Update
- Magisk Modules Installs: Busybox, Viper4Android
- Apps with Root Access: AdAway, BetterBatteryStats, Franco Kernel Manager, Material Terminal, Titanium Backup

The following works but I am not sure if all the steps are crucial and which ones may be superfluous. Those instructions in (parentheses) may be not necessary).
I am not a programmer (Basic on a C-64 doesn't count, I take it), don't know anything about computer architectures etc., just able to follow instructions and wrap my mind around them to tweak my devices.
The main part is to "Hide Magisk Manager" after Boxer is installed (but before it is opened/setup) as that also creates another Magisk app (instance?) with the new name for the work profile where Boxer etc. show up and can be hidden with Magisk Hide.
The other (first) part is to hide anything that would alert and conflict with Hub before or during setting up the work profile - I pretty much hid everything under Magisk Hide...
I don't know BYOD nor Workspace One, so the solution below may not work.
- uninstall Hub (that's the only app remaining after the auto-uninstall, right?)
- if Magisk Manager is already hidden: go to Settings\Restore Magisk Manager "with original package and app names" - that seems to be important, as hiding it later and with another name will then also create a Work Profile where one can see and click and hide the work profile apps such as Boxer (not sure if it works the other way around, i.e. starting off hidden with a different name and then later restoring to original will create a Magisk work profile)
- Magisk Hide: click almost every system app, not just the Google ones, but almost everything, camera, calendar, contacts etc. and your phone maker's versions as well (not sure what is necessary, but only Google system apps didn't seem to do it...), also all root and SU related apps like BusyBox etc. (not sure what Hub looks for)
(- System\Apps > clear storage data for Google Play Store and other Play Apps, also make sure Hub is really uninstalled. If not or having problems at least clear data storage as well)
- reboot (can also go into TWRP and wipe cache/Dalvik, not sure if necessary)
- install Hub, don't open it
- open Magisk, go to Magisk Hide: click Hub
(- close Magisk)
(- reboot)
- open Hub, let setup run its course creating the work profile
- if there are conflicts showing in Hub (and/or on your employer's MDM website for your device), e.g. root certificate not installed, don't install any apps yet such as Boxer etc. and reboot instead
- Are those conflicts resolved after reboot?
- install Boxer and other apps (trough Hub itself, MDM website push (or Google Play)) but don't open/start them
(- reboot)
- open Magisk, go to Settings\Hide Magisk Manager and click on it, pick a name and confirm: this will then change the name of Magisk AND create a another Magisk app (with the new name) for the work profile.
- open that new Magisk work profile and go to Magisk Hide: click Boxer (and other apps controlled by Hub); Hub itself and everything already hidden in the private (= non-work) profile Magisk app should show up here as already hidden. Double and triple check.
(- reboot)
- open Boxer and start set-up
That's it. Stable, even after another reboot.
