[Q] various strange behaviours - Fire TV Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I'm having some difficulty suddently with my rooted FireTV. As some background, I live in Canada but have the FireTV using a USA IP via a VPN.
When I use the Amazon UI and go down to the "Featured Apps" section and choose Netflix, I get a login screen for the Amazon App Store, with my name, and a button saying "Continue". But the screen is frozen--I have no way of selecting anything or backing out of anything. After a few seconds, the screen disappears and I'm taken back to the Featured Apps list, with Netflix still highlighted.
However, if I go down to the "Apps" section and simply select Netflix from the list, it works flawlessly and without a problem.
It's almost like something's gotten corrupted somehow. Is there any way to get Netflix to work in the Featured Apps section?

[Q] Can't read the book in amazon kindle

I have rooted my kindle fire and update to 6.2 version. Then I uninstall some apps for amazon(I didn't uninstall the amazon kindle app). However , today ,I find that i can't read the book in amazon kindle.
Can anyone help me?
Just a guess since you really don't say, but if you are not using the Kindle Launcher (ie using something else like Go Launcher ... )... If so, this is a known issue. click on the Kindle Launcher, go to books and your books should show and load properly.

I have tried to enter the launcher which installed by amazon. However, there is no response when i open a book in the shelf of the BOOks or Docs.
I really want to know how to resolve this problem.
I don't have that problem. all my books load just fine when using Books from within the Kindle Fire Launcher.

Thought you don't know how to do it . Thanks all the same
Yesterday evening, I took another kindle fire from my friend and checked the application one by one.
If you want to use the amazon kindle to read books, do not uninstall the app "Amazon kindle fire ","Device plat form".
I deleted "Device plat form" to cause that problem.
Now everything is ok!
I don't understand. If you deleted the app, how did you fix the problem?
I think I screwed up by Clearing Data for that app.
Now the Launcher seems to relaunch itself every few seconds, making it nearly impossible to launch an app, book, etc.
This should work but will not work the same as the amzone reader you got now it will look different but is the same in the long run.
Go to google market and search amazon Then install the Amazon Kindle app. You can open this app from any launcher

For those interested, I was able to fix my problem by setting "Launcher" to the default, re-rooting, then unrooting.
I'm not sure what caused the Launcher glitchiness: installing other launchers, clearing data, or something the first time I rooted. Regardless, it works now!

I copy the app from my friend's kindle fire and install it in the system again. then ,reboot , It's OK!
I had the same problem after rooting, removing the amazon stuff and installing google market. Interestingly, after loading google market, I went to 'my apps' and there was an update available for kindle. I installed the update and now it launches without needing the amazon launcher.
Reinstall update 6.2 manually, I had this issue as well. (next time dont uninstall, freeze and see how things run.) hope this helps.

Just thought I'd chime in since I found this helpful, and in the process found a fix for another issue.
I just recently rooted my Kindle Fire and was having some issues viewing the Android Market on it, and went to this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=24312196&postcount=17 to resolve that issue.
However, after turning on my device the today, I was unable to open PDF's from the "Device" section of the DOCS tab. I would click a PDF, it would appear to open, then the screen would turn gray with the word "kindle" in the middle, and nothing would happen. I backed all the way out, powered off the device, powered it back on, went all the way back to opening the PDF but this time "Amazon Kindle" wanted me to register. I input my email address and password and clicked the "register" button, and some tabs appeared at the top of the screen, and that's it. I backed out all the way again, rebooted my Kindle, and when I went back to the DOCS tab, all of my documents were gone!
I frantically opened ES File Explorer and navigated to the "Documents" folder, and all of my PDF's were still there. I was rather confused. I did a couple more reboots and this same issue persisted.
So I was having two issues.
1. "Amazon Kindle" was not opening PDF's.
2. The "DOCS" tab was not displaying anything.
How did I fix it? After deleting the cache from the "Kindle Fire" app via Settings --> Applications --> All Applications, I opened the Play Marketplace (or whatever it's called now), selected the Amazon Kindle app, and selected "Uninstall" which prompted me if I wanted to uninstall all of the updates. I selected yes, and also deselected the "allow automatic updating" option, then backed all the way out.
Everything works perfect now.

Warning on Google Play

Not sure if I read the situation correctly, but I installed Google Play a week or so back. I have Dish Anywhere software installed on FTV, side loaded the app. I had spoofed the FTV to the HTC phone. I should have checked, but all apps that are installed on FTV now show up under "My Apps". But all apps have the automatic update checked. So long story short, it updated my Dish Anywhere app on FTV today. My guess is that the update that was installed was for a phone (for HTC) and it does not work correctly now with weird layout. I had to uninstall and install the older apk manually.
Suggestions: Make sure you disable the auto updates for all apps in Google Play settings in FTV. Also, if you don't want to do that, manually go to each app under "My Apps" and uncheck the auto update on the right side for that app.
Q, because a tablet is a more closer approximation for FTV, does it make more sense to spoof FTV to a tablet rather than a phone? Not sure if I will "loose" anything if I go to a tablet...

[Q] Unable to open Kindle App

I'm running my KFHD 7" with Kinology 3.3 - my Amazon account is currently not registered to the device so I only have my Play apps (no Amazon apps) showing in the app drawer. If I register my Amazon account, the Play apps disappear and the Amazon apps appear, then vice versa when I de-register the Amazon account, with no data loss when I do this. With previous versions of Kinology the Amazon and Play apps used to co-exist together with no problem. I'm not actually bothered about the Amazon apps, but for some reason I cannot open the Kindle app from the Play store - it gives me the 'open' button in the Play store and it's showing as an installed app but it's not showing in the app drawer and it won't open. Obviously the 'Books' carousel doesn't work because it's not registered to my Amazon account. I don't want to have to keep registering/de-registering every time I want to read a book on it - any ideas on this one?

[Q] Apps from multiple regions?

Hello all,
Has anyone been able to get apps from multiple regions working on their Fire TV? I have been able to change locations and download apps but when I switch between regions (by deactivating my account and activating a new one), all apps fail saying 'App Not Owned' and they quit.
If I leave the 'App Not Owned' dialog up long enough, it changes to 'Authorization Expired - The time to authorize the user has expired' so I'm assuming Amazon is checking the titles against the logged-in user account.
I tried to install the app as one user, then pull the APK from the device using adb and then sideload the APK once I changed regions and was logged in as a different user. That didn't help.
Currently, I have it working so that I just deactivate and reactivate my accounts and the apps stay in place without losing my settings. Just a bit of a pain in the butt when I want to switch from ESPN (US) to Zattoo (Germany) or similar.
I
Does anyone have any thoughts as to how to get this working? I have multiple Fires (including rooted ones) that I can use to test.
Thanks,
Greg
HI,
I have just one account (US account) but I'm in Ireland. I'm using a Smart DNS. I have downloaded Apss to the cloud on amazon.com by changing my device country settings which I think you've done and works fine.
e.g. US account, downloaded TVplayer (UK App), works fine and US Netflix account etc also work. I am not switching my accounts on the Fire TV. Maybe it's the smart DNS is the difference.

The apps get your location from the IP address. You didn't mention anything about changing that, so that is why it's not working for you.
No, I have a Smart DNS provider and have no problems getting apps from any region to work. It's just that in order to use apps from multiple regions (WatchESPN from the Amazon US store and BBC iPlayer from the UK store), I have to log out of my Amazon account and into a different account.
Was just hoping to find some way to have these apps on the same homescreen and be able to use them without changing accounts. My Fire TV is rooted if that helps.

AFTV2 Kodi Icon in App

How do you get the Kodi icon to show up in the apps area on the AFTV2? I have the latest 5.04 upgrade to the firmware but I don't get an icon. I used ADBFIRE to sideload Kodi... have done so multiple times.... Even tried going to settings> account> sync... Nothing works... when I go to the "apps" menu, all I get is a message saying its loading my apps.. they never appear though.
Thanks!
Also... i've never 'purchased' kodi via the amazon app store.. Have only ever sideloaded it...
