So I just kind of got back into this rooting thing, Ive been so busy with a new kid the last few years I kind of left the scene and am pretty far behind.
anywho, I had a lot of work done jailbreaking 2.2 a long time ago and was thinking of throwing my hat into the 2.3.3 JB race, but I have a question. What is preventing the JB this time? Is it something I shouldn't even bother trying only being 1 person working on it? Am I basically going to have to throw everything I know about jailbreaking out and start new?
Any comments are appreciated.
This will most likely elicit "wtf n00bzorz, u no how 2 uzorz searchs?" types of responses. Not that i'm giving you one, just be prepared.

jailbreaking.
lolwut?
Well, I just got in the boat of "new EVO's that come with an update from Sprint and can't be rooted". The problem lies in the bootloader not being able to be rooted and can't downgrade the updgrade neither. Supposedly Unlocker team is working at the solution as we speak but no answers yet. There are several theories running around but no solution yet.

Sorry, rooting, Ive been deep into the ipad2 jailbreak for quite some time now.
Call me skeptical since you have to ask this question.
Anyway, in short, HTC and/or Google patched all the currently known exploits, including gingerbreak. Thus no temp root, no root, no S-OFF.
No hboot downgrade, no tampering with the signed .zip. Plenty of discussion on this elsewhere.

Just trying to save everyone time from trying things that have already been tried, and answering your question to boot.
Sorry if I seem harsh, there are alot of wanna be 'root h4x0rz' around here lately.
there was an exploit with the nova game mentioned by lithid, he later updated that he is trying to write C code to use the exploit, but his experience with C is limited, dont think we have heard anything else..
alpharevx team said their exploit would work across all bootloaders with some tweaking , i have not heard anythinng from them either

I have downloaded and installed the new 4.2 camera app on my GNex. My question is sort of simple. Where does one find instructions on how to use it? In particular, I am looking for documentation on the new "sphere" feature.

Are you saying that you know the information is not yet available? That is helpful. Otherwise saying "if it is not available then it is not available" is an unhelpful tautology.
I think that the 4.2 camera app is available on a few of the new tablets that just got announced. It is not unreasonable to ask if there is any info on usage or features.

No one cares what you want. I want a million dollars right now tax free. Is that going to happen? Hell no.
As for your "situation", you can just learn it yourself by messing around with all the options. It's not likes it's going to kill YOU if YOU do the legwork YOURSELF instead of asking us to do the work for you.

I really don't understand why you guys are all dumping on me. I asked a simple question and a link or quick suggestion would have sufficed. I clearly am capable of doing my own legwork or I would not be running a custom ROM on an unlocked phone and finding and installing an unreleased app.
I love baby pandas.

It's because of 1) your question and 2) your responses.
You're asking if anyone has a link to help about something that isn't released. When you were told there isn't such a thing yet, you sounded like a whinny little kid and said "no, I don't want to. Do it for me". How else do you think rue XDA community (who is known for not searching and asking to be spoonfed as well as dumping on said people) is going to respond?

Because you are wanting bleeding edge unreleased software. This comes at a price and that price is you are part of the first ones using it, so of course there is no documentation. It essentially is a beta, it isn't even promised to work let alone have a users guide for it yet. Maybe in a couple months someone will write a guide telling you what the buttons do.
I tried to help inform you but your general rudeness and 'whining' is making me not want to bother and apparently is having the same effect on others that are normally very helpful users here.

Have you tried it?? It's pretty self explanatory, what are your questions? Also, Google is not well known for documenting their features.
Has anybody tried searching on Google ?
I cannot find a thread for the ZTE Zinger Z667T yet.
Maybe it is too new? Or am I searching badly?
Low end phone but it is a dirt cheap GSM ($10 !) yet fast dual core with KitKat 4.4.2
https://www.phonearena.com/phones/ZTE-Z667_id8985
The hardware buttons are WAY too bright and and haptic feedback is way too strong.
Hoping those can be addressed someday as well as reprogramming hardware buttons.
Framaroot and towelroot do not work on it. Bootloader rom replacement is probably a pipedream?
Apparently this phone is also sold as the "Whirl 2" same exact specs and internal model number (Z667G) for $10 at some dollar stores
This post is a must read for the possible future of these models:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/and...ndroid-gsm-t2936545/post57312948#post57312948
2015-05-13 Whirl2 has been partially rooted (adb shell root)
I picked one of these up as well. I would be happy just with root, no need for a ROM here. I am curious how long it will take to get root access. I might play around with rooting, but really have no idea where to start at.

Yeah, I tried Kingo Root as well. It ran for about 15 min and reset twice. Its doing something with it, but not rooting. I'd like vnc as well. Good luck guys!!
The only chance at root for now perhaps is for someone to go through all the permutations that geohot allows inside of towelroot via modstrings:
https://towelroot.com/modstrings.html
Hopefully zte did not patch it after June 3rd because then none of the futex bug root hacks are going to work and we might have to wait a long time for another exploit to be found.
I'll happily send one of these phones to any established developer who has proven they can root other phones without known exploits, no need to return it, PM me.
Or better yet, maybe we all can somehow contribute to a "bounty" for rooting it, which might motivate talented people.
count me in for a root also!
+1 for root, I'd love it
I'm not sure how to do this officially but I'll offer a 100K (100,000) dogecoin reward for any developer producing a working root for this device.
Note the reward is for the actual developer, not someone who just finds another tool that does it.
Less than 5% of dogecoin remains unmined so they are bound to increase a bit in value over time.
Maybe others can contribute to the reward as well.

How can we get some traction on this? I got $5 in my paypal account ready to roll.
All the stores are sold out in my area, but if I can get another one for $10 I'd gladly send it to someone with the skills to try and root it.

I am sure it is a hugely difficult task, and maybe with little financial reward as a result of the small amount of people who have Verizon and and M9, but is there any movement or update on this? I remember seeing when I first got it that it would take some time but would eventually happen.

Still stands the same. You have to have java card\clip to s-off which then will allow root. Currently no software method\sunshine available, but as we all know, that could change tomorrow or never.

Well worth it. With the incredibly successful sales of the M9 (not), I wouldn't hold my breath for devs to continue to focus on the M9, especially as it becomes the "old" handset when HTC releases its next flagship.

Neo has consolidated all users doing the same exact service in the Java card/clip thread.
That's why. You are on the thread there now. Perhaps you are in denial that there are many users already doing this and more in that thread? Even boot loader unlocks without warranty voiding?

We've all had questions. Some of us actually search for our answers, instead of taking the lazy route and ask a question that has been answered a thousand times by now.
@siggey's comment was pretty much spot on. Most people who frequent this site shouldn't root, since they almost always have no reason to do so. It's why in this situation I'll ask if the person knows what root is and then ask why they need it.
His comment to you is unhelpful and useless because it doesn't simply give the answer on a site where the first rule is to search before you post. The OP needs to read, I agree. But the site has a search function for a reason, and perhaps if more people bothered with it you'd see fewer posts like siggey's or mine.

I wouldn't be able to own a phone without root. I use Tasker, as well as a lot of other apps that require root.
The only reason i had before to root was ads block with adaway, but since i discovered Blokada, i no longer root.
Today, I won't root my daily driver. Too much hassle. My tablet I root just for ad blocker on Twitch.
I miss the day of customising - for instance my Galaxy S4, getting rid of touchwiz and putting the Google Play edition roms on there was amazing.
I think this might be me personally though - back in those days I didn't have responsibility, I had a lot of time to dedicate to messing about back then.
The number one reason why I root is for Cf lumen. Which still works on Android Pie

I really like it. I rarely have any issues with it. But I use phones as toys. I don't have a purpose other then funzies with them. So most people prolly wouldn't use it as a daily.
Other than the phone app freaking out here and there, and the pocket detection seeming to not always work, its been super stable.
