Anyone know how to get the browser out of mobile view for websites? I tried changing the settings in About:useragent but the settings don't save. Thanks
Install a diffrent browser.
I prefer miren browser. It has a option to apear as a desktop and loads everything you throw at it.

I will try it. I was hoping to keep the stock and fix this stupid problem.

You can still keep the stock browser. Just have a second one for those times when you need to appear as a desktop. In the end though, the stock browser sucks
The stock browser is GPU accelerated, so is opera mobile. No other browser is GPU accelerated and sites like XDA absolutely CHUG on Miren/Dolphin........

I don't know if this is true or not. I looked around the market for a bit and found no info.
It has been awhile, but I tried all the major browsers. I found Dolphin, Opera, and most others to be sub par. Miren is the fastest one I have used. It is easily as fast as any other, or faster in my personal experience. Added to that, almost every flash based site I find myself visiting, works. Win in my book.
Opera is the fastest for me as well
According to anandtech the stock browser on the epic touch is optimized on the back end. It uses the same tricks that safari uses on the ipad 2. But, Samsung found a way to do it better. So technically the stock browser on the epic touch is way better than the stock browser on other Android phone. Anandtech got real technical with their in depth review. I suggest you check it out.
Note: I'm not 100% sure if the review I refer to was anandtech.
Weird. I've always done it through about:debug and then the settings menu but I just tried and the user agent option is missing. I can't imagine why they would have removed it entirely.

I tried some of the other browsers and the stock is just better. It is faster, more responsive, smoother with scrolling and zooming. I just wish there was a way to get it to go non-mobile!!!

Its not removed, you have to type about:useragent to change it. It will not stick though once you exit the browser.
This is a Touchwiz thing. G-Tab 10.1 had the same problem after TW update. There's a mod in the G-Tab forum that allows about:useragent desktop mode to stick. Hopefully we can get some love....
Ran a ton of site download tests and boat browser mini was fastest of all of them....including stock...(actually it virtually tied stock on the 15 site test I did).
However: NONE of the browsers display desktop pages on key sites (nytimes, engadget, gizmodo etc) regardless of the useragent setting on the Epic Touch.
Stupidass Sprint-Samsung.

Yes they do...if you set useragent to desktop. However, it reverts back to mobile when you close browser.
Yeah that's what I meant...close browser: have to keep entering. Nobody for me. Hoping for a good hack!

Chrome Beta is released for ICS. I just downloaded from the market. Any pro and cons compared to the default browser?
Pros
Faster than default browser
Nice transitions
Easy tab management
Cons
No Arabic/Hebrew support (awkward)
no flash
Pretty much the same with visual enhancements
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA App
I find they made the zooming a lot better than the stock browser. It has more of a mobile safari feel to it which I think is a good thing. Also, I love the fact that you can get to the open tabs on your desktop chrome.
There are missing things such as the quick control and the URL bar doesn't go away so you can't have full screen. I think it is also missing the feature to request the desktop version of a page also.

The no flash is defiantly a deal breaker for me, but hey, remember it is free and still in beta!
Also there is no way to change the UAString which means it will always be stuck in "Mobile" until/if they add the ability to change it (All websites will come up in mobile view).
Great info here. I was not aware of the lack of flash, but everyting else seems ok. Since it is just Beta, I am hoping for some great improvements. Browsing is WAY faster!
Cons:
- no flash... Ever
- pages run as mobile with no option to switch to desktop
- no accessibility options ... Can't run pages with inverted Colours
- runs as a service, eating up precious ram
- no chrome extensions - vs. Firefox mobile with plugins, Chrome is pathetic
I have no idea why anyone would use this as a primary browser, considering the stock browser is superior is almost every way.
It is just a Beta release.....

Beta means that you can't complain for it missing something.
Google likes to "release early and iterate quickly". Which means a lot of things come out as Beta.
Immediately after getting ICS on my TF101, I installed Chrome Beta, it is nice, but as others have already said:
Pro:
- bookmark sync, i just LIKE IT, works same as desktop chrome: start typing url and it will autocomplete from your bookmarks... missed it on old browser.
Con:
- No arabic support (while default browser does support arabic)
- No flash, which i don't need much, i have it disabled on default Browser.
will it ever support extensions? that will be great

Which part? The way people use the term beta or the fact that there aren't many features?
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk
I see people didnt bring up the fact that you cant get rid of (at the very least) the status bar like you can with the Google Labs option in the stock ICS browser. Id use Chrome beta every second I was online with my SGN if I could "maximize" the screen.

I'm not questioning features, i'm questioning your expectations of a BETA product and your understanding of what BETA means. It seems to me that you're expecting this to be some magical browser from day one, which it is certainly not - that's why it's a damn BETA!
You guys are not aware of this pro:
It stops redirecting websites, just like desktop browsers. Opera, Dolphin, Firefox, or stock browser doesn't have this.
For me, this is the biggest plus.
When you email yourself or someone else a page using Chrome on your GN? Does it leave the subject blank? It's driving me nuts!
I thought it was supposed to be chrome, but im using a phone from Google IO stock unrooted with 4.1 and the regular browser is still installed. is this only for the nexus 7?
They aren't going to be changing the default browser. Future devices will come with Chrome as the default, but they aren't changing it for the Galaxy Nexus, they are leaving it to us to use Chrome if we want. I'm glad, I'll probably be sticking with the standard browser for now.
Updating to 4.1 doesn't remove your stock Browser. Could you imagine if Google just pushed an OTA that removed the Browser?
The Nexus 7 could come with just Chrome because it didn't ship with a Browser and get updated later.

The GNex will still have the 'Browser' by default and will not come with Chrome stock.
Now hopefully we can all agree that Chrome on Android blows away the default browser -- without Flash. It'd kind of be nice if they pushed away from Flash unless you need to use it - like having Chrome be default from now on. (Sorry Adobe, I love you, but even the good kids don't always make it very far.)
For those of us who want to always use Chrome yet worry about Flash. Try Flashify (on the Play Store). You can now set Chrome to be your default browser, yet if something needs Flash, you can "share" the page, which will allow you to choose Flashify. Upon choosing Flashify, the exact page you were on will open up in the "Default Browser" with Flash support.
Hope this helps anyone. :fingers-crossed:

The stock browser destroys chrome in most ways, so I hope they improve chrome to match stock before making it the default browser.
I was shocked Google took chrome out of beta, and even more so when I heard that it was going to be the stock browser. I had just gone through crashes, lagging, just really not so good, and I uninstalled.
After all that, I still said why not, reinstalled when jb released, and I really think they did a great job with it. If you haven't tried it since it left beta, it's a different browser.

Does anybody know how to change the full screen mode?
I want full screen on to be the default setting. But unfortunately it always changes back to off after some time.
Anyone know the actual name of the stock browser by any chance?
Trying to debug an issue that only shows up on stock [loads fine on mobile FF & chrome] but trying to find info on 'stock browser' outputs so many generic results.....argh! plus i like using the javascript console & this doesn't seem supported on other other browsers.
I am using:
g-nexus 2
unrooted with 4.1
stock browser
any info much appreciated.
I keep switching between chrome, dolphin and the stock from 4.1......is it my imagination or is chrome still 3rd choice? It just seems so unintuitive to use. Are you guys switching to chrome or staying with one of the other browsers?
I think chrome is better than the default browser... but android beam still does not work with this app!
I love some of the Chrome features life the lateral-swipe to switch tabs and the zoom bubble that appears if you click in a small link, but I hate how it handles the bookmarks. We can't have everything, I guess :\
I use Chrome because it syncs with my desktop browser, but the Android browser is a lot smoother. Chrome stutters all the time when I scroll and often ignores input while it stutters, but I have a hard time getting the Android browser to stutter at all.
If you don't need the synchronization with your desktop, Android browser is still the better choice.
is it possible to have ALWAYS desktop version of a site without requesting it every time???
Thanks for the replies.....I keep expecting chrome to be the beez kneez but it always seems lackluster/less friendly than the android version. I dont know why, but after sandy when signals were extremely weak or non existent in my area, dolphin performed the best on a gnex (vzw) 4.1.2 and on an old droid 3
stock 4.2 browser is the best.

Ive been trying to use it all day but its not working for me....a shame because i feel like im cheating on google when i use the other browsers haha
I think as long as they dont add the "quick controls" to chrome, the android browser will always have the lead. those controls are incredibly useful for one hand operation, and really anything involving the search bar at the top. no need to move the thumb up there(which is annoying on big screens), just press the side and swype to the url control and bam! and now with "swype" on the keyboard, its actually getting pretty nice having a big screen but only using one hand

i think there's a bug when refreshing the page if you are using quick control. there'll be a black block on top.

There are 2 things keeping mé away from chrome and that is:

I use Google Chrome on PC, and it gets synced up very conveniently with Google Chrome on my Gnex, so I tend to stick with Chrome.

i use to like Dolphin browser but Chrome kinda feels solid. I have Dolphin browser with Jetpack on N7 and it indeed loads pages faster then chrome. They've recently added magnifier like in chrome it's still needs a little bit of optimization.
The stock 4.2 browser is faster and more fluid than chrome. Chrome is better in handling all kind of online forms.
I love stock browser but I want to give chrome browser a whirl. However, how do you guys adjust the font for chrome where it is readable? There are some fonts on the page which are perfect for viewing and at the same time , other parts of the page, the fonts are so small. Why can't all the fonts be near or equal on the same page like stock browser.
Did not see it Listed, But if it is sorry.
So Here is a Super easy How to Guide on getting flash player on the Galaxy note 3. Now the stock web browser or Google chrome don't work so another browser will have to be downloaded.
Here is a list of working Browsers from what I tested.
Puffin Web Browser (Recommended)
UC Browser
Fire Fox
Sleipnir
Maxthon browser
Boat browser
Dolphin Browser and Dolphin Browser Mini
If you have another compatible browser, Please feel free to leave a comment so I can add it to the list. Thanks
How to Guide:
This will also work for the Samsung Galaxy s4, The Galaxy Tablets and almost any phone. some site wont work, and I almost actually had Chatroulette to work once. Let me know what happens for you.
Mod Edit: closed as a duplicate.
You can add Dolphin Browser to that list.
Both Dolphin Browser and Dolphin Browser Mini work, but your mileage may vary.

I honestly haven't needed mobile flash in a long time; HTML5 has largely replaced it for most things (youtube, pornvids, etc). I know that a lot games are still flash based, but those are a pain to play on a small touchscreen. So, what are people still using flash for?

Might as well get used to Dolphin now - KitKat breaks Flash support entirely but Dolphin has a hacked APK that still works. I've got KK on my Nexus 7 and my One and I have to use Dolphin on both. Even the stock browser on my One comes with a Flash option but it doesn't work in KitKat.

Its possible that the APN proxy is blocking it but I'm not aware of T-Mobile doing any such filtering. If they were I'm sure there would be a huge uproar over it.

Actually, HTML5 mode works, but the video's quality is poor (low res). Moreover, you may want to use separate browser to open (requires mobile mode to enable HTML5).
