Hey guys massive noob here, wondering if it is possible to downgrade from android l to kitkat or to root android L on the G3. I foolishly updated and my root is gone, stump is not working (obviously not made for L yet) and I can't find any help elsewhere.
I need to root my phone and I don't care whether the the best way is to downgrade or to root if it is available for the new os. I will lose my data other than what is backed up via dropbox etc but it's not a big deal for me.
Help much appreciated thanks
Yes it is possible just downgrade to Kitkat using the lg flash tool then root using Purpledrake
You can get the KDZ file required from this link : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2791761 (make sure you select the correct file)

I've fallen at the first hurdle, which firmware do I need?
I have a UK vodafone LG G3, 16GB, LG-D855, and I want the last version of kit kat available. I'm more than a noob.. .
Also why do you choose Purpledrake over stump, is there any difference?
Thank you so much
This firmware you want is A6VF, it is near the bottom of the list.
The reason I use purpledrake over stump is because some times it won't root and says "...Not supported" but feel free to try stump if you want and if it doesn't work just use purpledrake.
Hi. I got trapped with unrooting and updating to lollipop lg g3 D85520e-EUR-XX and wanted to return to kit kat 4.4.2. It's the 32 Gb model. Can you help with the KDZ i must download (I can't understand the four first characters of the list!). Thanks!
What network are you currently using? or is it an unlocked phone. A country name would also be helpful as that's how the files are organized.

It's unlocked. It's in Spain. Lg g3 D85520e. 32 Gb model. It came with kit kat 4.4.2 and i aplied PurpleDrake succesfully. Then I unrooted to upgrade to Lollipop 5. Ver. 20e. And now, I can't root anymore. So I would like to downgrade to Kit Kat 4.4.2 to be able to root again with PurpleDrake to recover my root privileges, especially to manage apps and their writing to the external sd card.
Thanks very much for your help!
To get the exact suffix required use this website

Replace IMEI with your imei then press enter. Then post your suffix
It looks like if it were the same KDZ already installed... : FW9BRPVE022NAX045560S86/D85520E_00.kdz ??? What I need is the Kit Kat version 4.4.2 10x(a,b,c,...) to downgrade from this one (20e) and be able to root again the phone. I probably have explained myself wrong. Any idea?

So Friday i went to verizon and bought me a new LG G3 phone, 32G memory 3G RAM, you know the good **** LOL. Well when i got home i wanted to root the phone but when i looked it up there was many options, IOROOT, TowelRoot, and Stump Root. So i tried towel root on the phone but when i clicked the button towel root said my device isnt compatible and my phones build is the VS98510B. So at that point i decided to try IOROOT. When i launched the batch file i made sure i made myself a developer, got the proper drivers, made it connect via usb and set the phone connection to Ethernet. Well in the batch file it said everything was good and that i just needed to click any button to continue well i did that but when i clicked a button it simply closed the batch file. All i clicked was the space bar and it closed. Stump root isnt compatible and im afraid to use bruteforce mode. Any one got any help with this? Andriod Kitkat 4.4.2
Use the brut force method in stump. Takes about 5 minutes.

I used stump root. My phones still works. You can't install twrp because bootloader is still locked, have to wait for a way to unlock it.

Read a bit here TWRP is a recovery and backup software for when you flash a custom ROM.. You're not flashing any custom ROMs just yet.. So... I don't think you need to backup anything just yet. After you root the phone you can use TWRP to backup your current stock ROM .. Good luck ..
:good:
I used ioroot with no problems. Check out this vid, pretty straight fwd on what you need to do.

Hi guys,
I might get flamed, I might not.
I have searched on google on how to root my LG G3. I have used towelroot and it says something like it isn't compatible. I used stump root and it says its patched. I used purple drake and I manage to find my device but the error comes up about vulnerability.
Luckily with PDrake, I found my software version as I have been seeing 10f 10e etc everywhere and it seems mine is a v20f.
Into google it went and the search it very minimal on answers.
Do I have to rollback the software to a kit kat version in order to root??? Is there any other way or more importantly is it a safe way?
All I really wanted to do was change some of the UI sounds and I cant access the system folder without a root!
P.S. Is there up to date, guide on how to roll back?
Thanks!
Yes, you have to go back to kitkat, then I used IOroot and then install twrp via Bump

Dammit, so downgrading it is.. <_< Been searching and you have to download custom ROMs? They are labelled with 10g/10f, are these related to the version of the phone?
Sorry, not clued up on all the jargon/acrynoms.

Ok nice, so D855 16GB from UK and unbranded ?
This KDZ should work. It will bring you to V10A, so Kitkat, and after that you can root.
If you have issues downgrading, I suggest you ask in the other thread, it is especially for this step.
Good luck.
BTW: doing that will erase all your data on your phone.

Again im not sure if it is branded or not. Its an LG G3, is LG not the brand? lol Sorry!
Thanks for the link, clicked it in another tab and doesn't seem to be working but ill figure it out.
So doing this process wipes my phone? So much for just wanting custom UI sounds :haha: No way around the phone wiping? I mean most of my stuff is backed on google+ but its just tiresome considering I have just put everything on there already with the phone being new..........
Thanks again.

What I mean by branded is that you might have some Vodaphone software on it or from an other carrier. Unbranded means it's a pure LG phone unmodified by the carrier.
LL can't be rooted so you have to downgrade to KK.
For doing so you need to factory reset your phone using a KDZ or a TOT file, and there is no way around wiping the thing doing that.
Yeah that's a lot to modify a sound, but eh that's the deal as of now. And mind that if you downgrade to KK and root, you can't get back to LL if you are rooted. (Well you can but your phone will become a brick)
If you want a rooted LL, you need a custom rom like CloudyG3 for example.
Cheers for reply, already hit that thanks button.
Seems a lot for custom UI sounds, think ill wait until someone develops something. In the mean time I will continue to search for the ability to mod the system audio file without a root
Sorry to hijack, but can I confirm that the way to go from stock lollipop to rooted lollipop is to downgrade to Kitkat using the links above, then root, then install a rooted Lollipop rom?

Yes. LL has been rooted, but it´s way more complicated than previous versions of Android. You can wait, but it could be weeks, months or years for an universal safe and stable method
And the G3's locked bootloader isn't helping too....
Hello!
I have just rooted my G3, and I thought I'd also flash custom recovery and unlock bootloader with Bump. However when I did that, and phone attempted to reboot, it doesn't boot and says "secure booting error". I know there had been many questions around this topic, but non had helped me. What is the easiest way to "undo" this? Unbricking? Unrooting?
Thanks for patience and help!

I don't know what does TOT stand for and personally I use the kds method, I think its the easiest.
You can download KDZ from here: http://storagecow.eu/index.php?dir=Xda/LG+G3/Stock/
Kdz for the D855 on lollipop here: http://storagecow.eu/index.php?dir=Xda/LG+G3/Stock/Lollipop+5.0/D855/
And just to let you know, bump only work on kitkat, so if you want to use bump you need to downgrade to kitkat before using it, otherwise you get this error

The letter after is the OS version, so for example if you watch the D855 lollipop folder you have:
D85519C
D85519H
D85520A
D85520H <-- This is the most recent
The higher the number and letter is, the newest the software is.
And if the name start with D855***, your device is compatible.
Hope this help, if you have any other question, don't hesitate

Can i root my lg g4 with this version? And how?
Sure. Perfectly. At least two different ways. If you do not need and care about device encryption just search for the low effort root in this LG G4 Forum original Android Development. Search for a flashable 10C rom.
If you need device encryption, go to LG unlock your bootloader officialy, flash TWRP and flash su.
Thread for this is right here in General G4. Called complete Guide to unlock & Flash H815 or similar.

Hi, unfortunately this happened to me (more than once) when I tried rooting the first time. You'll need to download the stock image files and the LG Flash Tool to start over from scratch. I'd link you but I don't have enough posts yet to be able to.
The trick is to make sure the rooted image file is over 4 gigs when extracted, I ran into issues multiple times where the download got corrupted along the way and ended up being a few hundred meg. Keep trying and once you get the right files the Low Effort Root is amazing.
Good luck and if you need any more help please let me know!
Let me start by saying I APOLOGIZE, As I know this may not be the right section but I've asked there as well and couldn't find help. I feel as though I've exhausted all my resources and still can't get my Gpad to root. I've tried the one click method, kingroot, towelroot, various ADB scripts. You name it I tried them all out there. Is there anyone out there that knows how I can get this device rooted? For the past 3 weeks alone my mission had been to simply very this tablet rooted.
Sorry but I think we are lost no Root for this tablet with lollipop 5.0.2 and the bad part no exist a KDZ or TOT to back to stock.
Damn that's what I was fearing. I may just have to return it as, being NON ROOTED is not an option for me. I'll probably get a Nexus.

Excellent. Thank you!
This tablet came to me as 5.0.2 and I rooted it with LG One Click Root. Then while trying to fully enable tethering and half drunk I partially-bricked it (it would boot to a black screen and after a moment start adbd) so I flashed the 4.4.2 test-keys image and successfully rooted again with One Click Root (obviously). The trick is to change the COM port of the download mode driver from COM21 to COM17, as One Click Root expects the device to use COM17. Before starting, boot into download mode with the button combo (powered off, hold volume up while plugging in USB cord) and use Device Manager to change the port of the "LGE Mobile USB Serial Port" to COM17. It may take a few moments for the tablet to show up in Device Manager. Reboot the tablet. Now One Click Root will run through smoothly in one shot.
