[Q] Ditto Note 4: wifi shows as connected but internet (chrome, FB etc) doesn't work - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi All,
I have installed DN4 on my Note 2 (N7100). For first 2 days, there wasn't any issue with my WiFi connection, able to connect to WiFi, browse the internet. But suddenly after 2 days it stopped working. Notification bar shows as connected to WiFi, but whenever I try to browse the internet using chrome, stock browser, FB application, page doesn't load at all, showing the message as "This web page is not available". (In FB application, it doesn't show latest post).
I am able to ping to www.google.com using Terminal Emulator while WiFi is on.
Kindly guide me how to fix the issue. (I am able access all the application using 3G/2G data)
Regards,
Jitu

Issue was occurring due to DroidWall as well as WiFi router setting (needed proxy server information). Though DroidWall is set to allow the FB,Chrome,Stock Browser to access WiFi, some how it's not working. After disabling the DroidWall, browsers and FB application working as expected

Chek the settings your wi-fi card connect to Internet or to Workplace
....
Thanks for all the advise but my problem still not resolved yet.... not too sure whether is my home WIFI+router setting or my P800W setting problem.... this really getting to my nerve !!!
1. I can connect to my home WIFI and able to surf internet with my laptop.
2. I can connect to my home WIFI and able to surf internet with my old pda MITAC 558.
3. When i use my p800w... can connect to my home WIFI but cannot surf the internet. The weird part... managed to surf the internet few times... and then cannot surf again/..
Please help !!
I'm facing same problem also..
I can connect to Wifi, but when try to open website, using IE
is stuck on LOCATING....
WiFi Issues
I have exactly the same issues and have tried installing both Opera and Netfront to no avail. I can connect to Wifi perfectly can then sync Avantgo, download quick GPS updates and surf a couple of pages, then the DNS seems to fail, have tried with DHCP and fixed IP's. Think the o2 Orbit has some sort of DNS cache fault...As a side issue when the Orbit does connect it runs the Internet very slowly...Both a XDA IIi and XDAs run perfectly on the same wireless!!
Get the devices early and wait for the fixes!!
the same thing on Artemis - device gets IP from WiFi Access point by DHCP, but without DNS. I set DNS manually and Internet is working thought WiFi now.
I had the same problem then installed Wi-Fi Companion, issue resolved. You can download a trial for three days from Pocketgear or Handango.
I changed the wireless mode of the router to only wifi g
has anyone any idea how to get round this yet?
Tried to connect today and all that happens is ie sits there saying 'locating'
I tried Wifi companion..it shows me connected and everything but still can't surf the net.
how can I set DNS manually? might be worth a try
thanks for any help
quick update...Ive just been doig a tracert and ping of my service provider and although the trace and ping come out ok...i.e. still just sits there saying locating...
anyone any ideas?? getting desperate here
Apologies..another quick update....
it's not that I can't connect to the net..it's that there is a default page on IE that tries to connect to pda.o2.co.uk or something..and this page is either not there or something...so, changed the default page and I'm good to go...
apologies again
Mine did the same ... Heres the fix ... It has trouble locating the home page . Type in manually to the address line the url for say GOOGLE and wait for it to connect . Then go to tools options and save current page ( Google) as home page and hey presto ! Sorted
Hi
I also have a similar problem
I have a 802.11b broadband router (linksys) which works fine with my two wifi PC's and my Wifi XDA Exec to access the Internet and collect e-mail
I just got an XDA Orbit and although it "sees" and connects to the Broadband router it will NOT allow access to the internet or e-mail (apart from one very short half page of ntlworld.com home page on one occasion)
WORST than that , when I use the XDA Orbit with Wifi and Internet Explorer - it HANGS the wi-fi router after about 30 secs and I have to reset it before I can access the Internet from any other PC's !!
What am I doing WRONG ???
Any suggestions welcomed
I tried the above 'fixes' and it DID get me a BIT further
i.e. I was able to get a connection to google.co.uk for about 30 seconds and do one enquiry - but then it STILL hung the router and the XDA Orbit was stuck saying 'locating'
Take a look here this worked for me.
Sorry did not work for me - after 30-40 seconds of surfing IE hangs on 'locating' and the router hangs and has to be re-set
ANYTHING TO DO WITH 802.11b compatibility ????????
Where can I get Opera browser to try that ?
How many posters have fixed this problem ?
OK
I downloaded the latest trial version of OPERA and tested that
EXACTLY the same result
If I switch on WiFi and connect to the Internet via Opera, I can access the internet for about 30 seconds, then the browser cannot access any more
If I switch of WiFi on the Orbit quickly, then the Router is OK - if I don't, then the Router Hangs and all my computers lose internet access
Has anyone else seen this ??
Has anyone cured this ??
Is is an 802.11b problem ??

weird windows live messenger issue please help

I've got my Touch 2 pro a few days ago, loving it so far apart from one really annoying issue.
I can't seem to sign into windows live messenger!
whenever i try it gives me :
Windows Live is temporarily unable to connect. You may be out of coverage for data connections.
what I've tried so far is:
when I connect to WIFI in my house - it connects fine.
disconnect from wifi and try again - fail - same message.
all this time I'm showing a full strength HSDPA connection - 4 bars.
I can surf the net using opera and IE, can use apps like youtube and facebook.
I took my new T-mobile sim out and put it in my old HTC Wizard - after reconfiguring the settings I can connect fine, surf the net and connect using the messenger app.
put in my old O2 sim which still has active data connection into my touch2 pro, tried to connect with this - same message.
tried a soft reset - same.
tried a hard reset - same.
phone t-mobile and verified I have unlimited data package (web & walk combi 30), confirmed with this this is full data and not just http.
all seems to be pointing to the client installed on my touch2 pro, yetI can't understand why it would work over wifi and when connected via activesynch yet not over my phone data connection.
Any ideas/insight would be greatly appreciated.
Does anyone know where I could find another copy of Windows live messanger to install and test?
Fixed
after finding and reinstalling the new version of windows live, flashing the rom etc still same.
The culprit turned out to the auto network configuration settings. It had put on a proxy server. Disabled this and it's now working fine.
Weird. but fixed at least!
I have the similar issue, can you please shed some more details as to what I have to do to disable proxy server.
Sure,
Go to Start > Settings > All Settings. Hit the connections tab and click connections. Go to manage existing connections. Click the proxy settings tab. disable the "this network uses a proxy server to connect to the internet".

Now, I am only able to access internet on Google apps like Chrome, Gmail etc.
I am not able to access internet on any other application like Firefox, Watsapp, Skype etc.
Please help !
Please tell me if I have to give any additional information.

Solved myself by restoring APN settings.

[Q] Wifi with captive portal keeps getting disconnected after 4.3 update

So our guest wifi network in office requires you to press an I agree button before connecting you to internet, and once you agree you're supposed to be good for 7 days. So once you connect - it redirects your first connection to captive portal, but if you have already agreed recently, it redirects you again automatically to the original webpage you were trying to go to - seamless user experience.
Samsung (with their infinite wisdom) introduced a behaviour in 4.3 that if it senses a wifi captive portal (by detecting redirection or not getting 204 return code), it immediately disconnects from the AP, and waits for the user to sign in (says "sign in required"). So everyday once I walk in, I need to do a manual connect to the wifi AP.
Is there any way I can disable this behaviour of disconnecting from an AP if captive portal is detected? I understand it redirects, but that only the first time, and eventually loads the intended page without further manual intervention.
Did you find out anything about this? I would love to know how to get around this also

I found a program in the market called Wifi Portal Connect that seems to be a workaround. Haven't had a chance to try it yet

Not sure if that'd work, because the O/S itself will disconnect from the AP. Such apps come into play after that. There's another similar program Wifi Web Login which stopped working because of this bug -- they documented the issue here: http://wifiweblogin.syslynx.co.uk/2013/12/samsung-43-compatibility.html

Actually I have been using Wifi Web Login for the past 1 or more years with great success so I am very sad that it is not working now. It is a great program.
The program that I referenced above does not do the same thing as Wifi Web Login(which I have installed). This program claims to detect the disconnection that Samsung is enforcing and forces it to reconnect, giving Wifi Web Login (or similar programs) programs time to work.
I am at work right now and it definitely is working--I have been connected to work wifi every time I checked and I have been already logged into the work system, so this program did allow Wifi Web Login to do its thing.
Unfortunately I think it drained my battery. so it might not be a viable option in reality.
I hope a fix for this program comes soon.
It looks like my battery problem wasn't due to the program Wifi Portal Connect. I'm using it in combination with Wifi Web Login and all is well.

Question Wifi without internet access, but internet (from eSim) not working

Hi
I have been observing this for a long time this issue. When I connect to WiFi without internet access (like dashboard cam etc), my pixel doesn't show me a notification, that Wifi has no internet access. I don't see 4G/5G icon. Just an icon of wifi connection. I also observed, when I connect to a public hotspot (hotel wifi for example), Pixel doesn't redirect me to the website with the "login page" and I need to go to settings of WiFi, copy Default gateway and paste it to browser. The site with terms&conditions is shown and after agreeing I can use the internet access.
I am running on the latest updates, A13, using eSIM as a primary, 2nd SIM just for calling, the device is root. I Tried resetting wifi settings, resetting all "connection settings", try different settings (mobile data always on, adaptive connection, DNS, MAC automatically) but without any change.
Do you have any solutions for this? It is really annoying.
