My usual app doesn't allow voice replies to text messages so trying to find a new one. Textra seems very nice but I'm not getting the vibrate, pop up on my watch. I get the notification if i scroll down to it but nothing pops up. Any suggestions?

hangouts:good:
Thanks for the info. Yeah hangouts works well, but it lacks a lot of features. I found Textra. Works great, looks great, has all the usual features I love like replying through the status bar, but most of all it allows voice replying with my watch!
I tried out Textra and liked everything about it except how it pulled my favorites from my contact list and put them in the quick contacts. I couldn't find a way to remove some of the quick contacts without removing a Favorite from my contacts... so that extra space taken up at the top of the screen...plus my keyboard popping up at the bottom made the view window for typing a message very small and hard to use.
I found chompSMS (which is put out by the same developer as Textra), and it's exactly what I was looking for. It allows the option to reply on the Android Wear device with a Reply button (like Textra)... and it's running great with no problems. If you haven't settled on a SMS replacement app yet, you might want to check out chompSMS.
Been using Google Messenger to reply for voice texts, and Wear Messenger to reply via text on the watch. You need to have Minuum installed though, works pretty well for replying with a keyboard.

I actually received an email from Minuum about their version 3.0. Although I see it can only be installed via adb which I'm not to knowledgeable about. But how does it work? Are there only certain apps that allow you to respond to texts? How do you pull up the keyboard cause usually when you hit reply, it just does voice input.
Also to add, I found an app called Coffee. Allows you to respond to sms with voice, and a bunch of premade texts and you can also add to it. Also it appears to just pull the notification from your phone so even if your app doesn't support android wear, you can still reply via voice with this app. Will be testing more though.

Yea, you have to install through adb and set it as default through adb. I can find you the steps if you'd like. Also, the only text messenger app that allows keyboard reply is Wear Messenger. But I'm going to try to take apart google messenger apk and try to see what I can do to the wear side.
EDIT: For those that aren't very good with adb, here's the steps to install minuum: http://support.minuum.com/knowledgebase/articles/394385-minuum-on-android-wear
I'm also using Coffee, but I keep getting the "Let's get started" card where it says to flick your wrist to send a message. This functionality doesn't work for me, even though the option is ticked on the phone app. No idea why that won't work, and haven't had a reply from the developer yet.

I actually emailed the Dev about constantly getting that notification. No reply yet.
Other than that, the app is working great. I did untick that feature as I don't need it but I think when I first downloaded the app, it didn't work for me either.

The problem I have is that I need to use TMO WiFi calling at my house. I have zero signal there. And unless I'm using the stock app for messaging I can't receive or send MMS or group messages. So none of the 3rd party apps for SMS work for me. The irritating thing is that the manual for the watch says it has the reply option. (it wont let me post the link here)
So unless there is a work around for 3rd party SMS I'm SOL. So far Sony has not responded to my request for a fix.

Try coffee SMS out. It gets access to your notifications so you can respond with voice even if your messaging app doesn't support wear. Only thing is I had to uninstall coffee because it causer battery drain.

Do you have Go SMS installed? If so, it's that app. Not quite sure just WHY it does it, but nothing to worry about.
I had the same problem with Go SMS and being rooted.
There is a way to shut it off it is buried in the settings and something about I believe it was in receive settings and I unchecked "Disable other message notification" I believe that is what stopped it for me.
You got voice mail. It's stuff that is handled in the back ground by android...turned off block other sms pop up s. Got 8 vm. I've known it for a while almost forgot. The feature is lane in go sms cause it doesn't say point blank what happened.

I get them now and then and I dont have Go SMS installed. I do have Handcent, but I think they are LOS related. Seems like after a LOS happens and I reboot is when I get them.
It is not a GoSMS problem. I have gotten them on stock messaging app. I just block that # in GoSMS and problem solved. I'm sure Handcent has the same feature to block #'s.

It does, I just wanted to point out its not a GoSMS thing only, or a 3rd party SMS app for that matter.

Correct, think of it as the 3pty app's server pinging the app. It happens all the time, but if the app was working correctly we would never see these unknown text messages being received by the phone.

He said it's NOT a 3rd party messaging app issue. I know this to be a fact and wish people would stop claiming otherwise without knowing for sure. People without any 3rd party messaging app installed get these messages = Go SMS theory broken.
I'll have to agree Cordell12, I'm back to Rouges stock w/ CWM kernel and have yet to receive another one of these messages - also I haven't had a single LoS. When I used other kernels that suffered Los I would get these messages. Correlation? Seems to be.
I may be wrong but if this is the case I'm wondering why I have this issue on complete stock phone. I'm using handcent.

dude ive used all the different kernels, but always used the stock app. never recived any messages from 8737. However my coworker has an unrooted et4g with go sms pro installed and she gets tons of these messages. She took it to a sprint repair center, and even though most of them are complete retards, she actually found a knowedlgeable tech that immediately told her to uninstall go sms pro. since she has done that, her messages have stopped. thats no coincidence
This most definitely IS caused by having a third party app monitor your texts or phone calls. People who screw up the install of Google Voice also have this problem.
Sprint uses a "silent" text message from a certain number to alert your phone that you have a voice mail message. The STOCK app interprets this text message and passes it on to VVM, which then reaches out to get the relevent data and the actual message.
When you install a third party application, such as GO SMS or Handscent, that asks if you want to disable the stock messenger, NEVER do this. This is what breaks your voicemail and you start getting those texts from 4 digit numbers.
Instead, simply go into the settings of your STOCK app, and tell it not to display notifications. Problem solved.
If you haven't installed a 3rd party messenger app and you start getting those texts, your app is screwed up. Maybe you're using a ROM that pulled the messenger APK form a non Sprint phone, or whatever... Receiving those messages means your stock app is turned off somehow.
Load the stock voicemail app and let it provision. Reinstall go SMS...fixed.

So we've resolved nothing then...
We still have people with no 3rd party messaging app getting these messages. So what's the common factor in all of them, anything? Google Voice? Sure, I'll give room for that to be the cause since it's "3rd party" in the sense that it didn't come installed natively. However, I switch kernels and get these messages. I switch back to a stock kernel and the messages stop along with Los? Without me touching GV at either point how is this explained by a 3rd party messaging app?
So could it be both the kernel/LoS or a 3rd party app that causes it? Or are we still going to stay glued to the app theory? Not trying to be a **** about this, sorry if it comes off that way but this is just annoying and everyone holding on to one theory that can be proven wrong isn't helping at all.
no arguments with you bruh, i understand what your saying. I cant really say anything about the people on stock. i think would have to be caused by google voice or some type of program that interferes with the silent message used by the visual voicemail system. thats what the 8737 message is for, its a silent message
LoS
No,it really is the LoS notification. I've observed this on my phone and every time my radio reboots or the phone restarts because of the LoS, i get the notification.

Nope. I only began getting these messages after installing GoSms. I have never experienced los on this device. Blocked the number and still using GoSms.
If you get this when you change kernels etc. then reprovision voicemail... ive had that intermittently... and i did try the annoying gvoice integration and could not get rid of it until i disabled gvoice in its own setting, via a desktop browser, then reprovisioned stock vmail w the dialer code (see help in stock voicemail). as far as gosms... idunno why they decided to add the force disable stock setting... was it really that hard to disable stock notifications like they tell you to upon install? but i wouldnt doubt gvoice has something to do with it if you have tried it... PITA to get rid of... and if sprint wont comp me for google handling vm and sms then ill stick to what i pay for. plus gvoice is white... did they make it for the iphone?
I started getting this on my SGSIII with the JB update and being rooted..never happened before

I have been using this app and wanted to turn everyone else on to it. This app keeps your text messages synced in the cloud and enables you to be able to send and receive text message on your computer. If I send a text from my phone, it still shows up on my computer and vice versa. It is really nice to have my phone on the charger, and while I'm using my computer I can read and respond to my text messages without having to ever go get my phone. And best of all......IT'S FREE. Check it out.

Correct me if I'm wrong (I'm not 100% certain) but isn't Google Voice SMS just a sms scheduling app? This app I posted about actually uses your existing cell phone number and lets you text business as usual from the phone but the texts stay in sync in the cloud, and gives you access to them (send, receive, compose, etc) from the computer.

What I like about this one is that you can use the browser but you don't have to. They also have a windows and a mac app too. I prefer to use the windows app so that I don't have to keep the tab open with that site. Also with the windows app even after a reboot I still get my messages on the computer.

Yeah I saw a few browser based ones. What got my attention about this one is that it actually has a windows app that I could install to my computer. That's cool because when I boot up my computer I'm able to handle my text messages without having to do anything. The only complaint I have about it so far is that there are no audible text message alerts during a call (just like the stock sms app).
Today I've noticed it doesn't sync the existing mms messages. But it will sync mms messages that come in after you install the app.

Google voice sends text messages via the google voice phone number.
A friend of mine was using MyPhoneExplorer. It is only for Windows, so i didn't try it. But he told me that the app has a notification system integrated, and you can also answer a call through the pc.
is there additional battery drain with this since it is syncing your texts to the cloud?
Thats one reason why i switched from GV to my regular number, the reliance on data to send texts got annoying with low signal and also drained battery
I think voice typing is better
Outbound, the server can send any phone number but I don't know how it can receive without the phone being on.
The messages can be sent out via a phone or browser but the phone is the key in receiving since the number is physically ported through the carriers to your cell.
So your phone receives the messages and uploads it to the server for viewing everywhere.
Neat. Would be cool using on my tablet.

Thanks for letting us know, a friend of mine might find this very useful. They always thought it was cool that I could send and receive SMS messages from my Google Voice Chrome extension (or the web page, obviously) and they'd always get frustrated when they'd forget to use one of the sms to sd backup apps before flashing a new ROM, but I could never convince them to use Google Voice because they didn't want to switch to a new phone number.
Are there be any possible privacy issues with storing your SMS logs on this companies servers?
how to send contact via sms, event the stock sms also can not send this kind of thing, maybe Google is missing some thing, isn't it??
will it restore my messages from the cloud to the phone?

Well even with Hangouts set for sms on my Moto X, the watch sends texts using the "Messaging" app. And, touching that app in recent apps sends the message again and again.
Also, sending a text to a number sends it to some inexplicably chosen contact. If they can't get it right with their own phone, I sure others will have problems as well. I have returned mine and will try again next year.
I have exactly the same problem. Did you get that one sorted? Works perfect when voice replying to email but sms with OS messaging software doesn't work.

Please explain in more detail, does it not show up on the moto 360 or does it not show up on the hangouts app on your primary device? If it doesn't show up on M360 I believe it's because of the way the software is coded to show apps only when a notification is prompted. Initiating a text doesn't prompt a message but when someone replies it does. I believe that is the problem you have.
It doesn't show on either device the phone or watch. I know it sends because I get responses from people.

DId you try updating Hangouts yet? Are you on the latest version with the Material Design UI and the Hangouts Dialer app too? I just tried sending a text to a friend via Hangouts and it worked perfectly fine. It's showing in the app and on my M360! Try updating and then resyncing all available apps through the Android Wear app settings. That might solve your issue!
The latest Hangouts app is a turd. So many bugs I finally switched to the HTC messaging app on my One M8.
Yeah hangouts suck. Try textra. I love it cuz it's so fast. It has android wear support as of today.
I have been having this issue since yesterday morning where as the title describes that hangouts is taking priority over messages. I literally will not receive messages unless hangouts is selected as the default app. I was thinking that this may have been started once I got a bunch of updates through the play store. However, I uninstalled updates and disabled Hangouts attempting to force the problem to stop. This to no avail.
So is anyone else running into issues such as this. Or, does anyone have any advice as to how I could remedy this issue. I know it is quite silly, but I love being able to use GIFs while texting people and hangouts doesn't support googles GIF keyboard for some reason.

This is a tough one. I've been there before but it was a while ago and I found the answer I believe on G+ but let's see if we can get you back on track here. Under settings->apps-hangouts what shows under SMS app? Click it and make sure at the bottom that sms app is showing Messages. Also in the Hangouts app itself go to settings and make sure SMS is disabled. Let's start there.

So yeah I have already done that. Messages will send the message, but the received message will come in through Hangouts. I am going to do a factory reset when I get home (the wifi at my office is terrible). I will see if that makes any difference. I hate to have to resort to that, but I wasn't having this issue prior to the most recent updates.
So I figured out the problem. I am on Project Fi. Within hangouts there is a setting in accounts that takes all calls and SMS through hangouts. Turned that off and now I am good.
