[Q] Kindle Fire is completely blank, except for TWRP

Ok, so here is my deal. I rooted and successfully installed Jelly Bean onto my Kindle Fire months ago. After about a month or so, there was an .android error that kept popping up whenever it booted to the home screen. Since I couldn't do anything with it, I decided to delete the ROM and set it back to factory, BUT when I deleted the ROM, I deleted ALL ROM's including the stock ROM. I also managed to delete all my backups. I can boot my Kindle into TWRP but that is all. I purchased a factory cord from skorpn and am able to put my KF into fastboot mode but KFU will not detect the Kindle unless it is in TWRP. The ADB status is always offline if I try running KFU when in fastboot mode. I have installed all drivers, over and over and when I mount the SD card to USB it shows up on my computer as "KINDLE" BUT, I have no folders in my kindle except for TWRP. There is no /sdcard folder or anything. I am stuck and completely frustrated and I don't know what else to do. PLEASE HELP!!

Oh good times. Your sdcard either lost it's formatting or part of its formatting or some other similar situation. This is probably caused from not correctly ejecting or unmounting the sdcard before trying to write to it...but that's merely speculation on my part.

So, to be more specific...I'm not a completely technical person. I do research and read and then execute but the link you attached tells what commands to put in, but where do I put them in?

Oh my.
Every ounce of my being desperately wants to be brutally honest with you...but I won't.
Even the most inexperienced of users has the foresight to answer that question on their own, so you are obviously in way over your head. My best advice to you is to find someone a little more technically oriented to help you fix your problem...but that's just a suggestion (albeit a strong one).
If for some reason that isn't an option for you, then you definitely need to educate yourself in a few areas before attempting anything you find here (this might take a while).

You need to download the Android sdk, then you can run adb from the command line.

I know this isn't helpful now. But the original problem (I am pretty sure) had to do with the drivers with the audio. You probably had the volume all the way down, which causes the error you were receiving. If you mute it, that is fine, just don't have the volume down all the way.

I asked for help, I didn't ask to be belittled. I already stated I am not the most technical person, but when I set my mind to something, I do the research and I figure it out on my own. The last time I did this, was months ago and I haven't touched it since. Since then all of my research was wiped out because of computer problems and my PC had to be reformatted and my data was lost so now I am trying to get all my research back and excuse me for asking such a stupid question. I am doing this with my OWN Kindle to learn how to do it and I am not hurting any one else or their stuff. How else is someone supposed to learn without trying it?
I will say thank you for your time to help "educate" someone so "inexperienced".

I put a lot of thought into how I should respond to this post, so bear with what I'm about to tell you.
My previous post was not intended to "belittle" you, rather, wake you up to the reality that you might not be ready to take on such an endeavor. This is not an iPhone and it isn't as simple as plugging it in and pressing a few buttons. For new users, there is a high degree of risk involved in certain aspects of modifying the Kindle Fire, especially when it comes to repartitioning...which is what you'll need to do to get your Kindle working again.
My harshness is NOT out of ego or feeling "holier than thou". It is not to make myself feel better or to make up for some low self esteem. Treating people with kid gloves around here tends to give them a false sense of security that quite often leads to them getting into very stressful situations. Besides, a little "tough love" is better than indifference any day.
I created a thread in the General forum a while back, titled "**WARNING** You will BRICK YOUR KINDLE if you don't READ THIS FIRST!!!". The purpose of that thread is to warn owners of newer 2nd generation Kindle Fires of the DISASTROUS consequences of trying to modify those devices in the same way the 1st generation devices are. One would think, with a title like that, there would be very few people to make that mistake. Of course one would be wrong, as there are at least two individuals a week that were not prepared to deal with the situation at hand and did not give it the appropriate amount of respect, therefore their Kindles are completely worthless. Needless to say, if something I say is construed as rude yet prevents mishaps like that...so be it...and I'll consider it worth the hurt feelings.
And I agree, in order to learn, sometimes you have to get your hands dirty. But there is a big difference between tweaking some system files contained within a single partition and actually modifying partitions. And yes, you do have to start somewhere, but if you don't know that commands go in the command prompt (and I'm saying this respectfully), this is not the place for you to start. Go back, read through the links I gave you, and get a better foundation to work from before trying to fix your Kindle Fire. Not doing so, would do you a great deal of injustice.

I can’t delete apps and I can’t reset my phone

For Gizmoe first time post, thanks for your info I found it with a google search, I was trying to follow your suggestion to FiFa_JockeR, but HTC does not have my phone on their web site. Can you please try to help me reset my phone somehow?
I have a HTC Incredible (ADR6300) and I just want to start over with this phone. Verizon stores no help, HTC customer service no help. They try to do what I’ve done already, “a factory reset”. But it just does not reset! with or without the SD card. This all started with the force closes on a few apps. Then I thought I would delete allot of apps just for the heck of it, then I ran into another problem. I can delete an app(s) while the phone is on but when the phone is rebooted or turned off then on again the deleted app(s) reappears. So I can’t delete apps and I can’t reset my phone. It’s exactly the same as FiFa_JockeR (just like the pictures) only we have different phones from HTC. PS phone has never been rooted.

I was excited because things were loading in hboot the file PB31IMG.zip

now it takes about 4 minutes to get past the eye portion of the bootup, then I get “sorry the application bla bla bla has stopped unexpectedly.
please try again. this happens to what must be every app on my phone.

I just don’t know what to do.
I think the post by cmlusco on Re: [Q] Return to stock might be what I need but I really don’t understand it. I only downloaded the last file because I thought it was all I needed.
any help would be greatly appreciated.

The incredible (ADR6300) is on the www.htcdev.com/bootloader unlocker site, under HTC Droid Incredible *. Best bet is to unlock and flash a recovery, then from recovery do a full wipe. That is if it lets you, i have a feeling you will get errors formating both /data and /cache. If so its pretty much unfixable. There is a mod http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2175346, that will mount /data and /cache to seperate partitions on your sdcard. This makes the phone a little slower, especially booting. But a slow phone is better than no phone, if you cant get a new one. If you need any help just post back.

Yes you are rooting your phone. Im not sure what you mean by higher risk of radio frequency? If your on hboot 1.02 or 1.07, you can skip the ruu bootloader update part of the htcdev site and proceed to the next step.

oops radio frequency I meant SAR values, and I don’t expect an answer for that. I read the attached paragraph on the HTC site and got concerned.
PS this phone is used for Wi-Fi only, no data plan.
Anyway back to the good stuff.
I’m attaching a picture of my hboot screen, so yes I have 1.07 so I can skip the ruu bootloader update part but I’m unsure how to proceed from here. Am I still rooting my phone? what’s next? I’m really nube at all of this. Will I be returning to the HTC site or somewhere else?

At the bottom of the ruu update page there should be a proceed / continue button. Click on that and it should move on to having you get an identifier code from your phone, to send to htc.

It seems that htc has removed the ruu bootloader update part of the unlock process. Probably because the latest ota should make everyone have an unlockable hboot already. So just do all the steps 1 - 10.
You are not flashing a rom, at least not yet. A rom is basicly an opperating system like windows.
Right now you are getting an identifier token from your phone which you submit to htc in step 10. They will email you back another code with instructions, which you will enter into the phone using hboot and a cmd prompt on your pc.
Just follow all those steps on htcdev and then we will go from there. In your spare time you should read up on rooting and roms and custom recoveries, so that you have some clue of how your phones going to work once were done.

Well here I am at HTCdev trying to do step 1, I Select my Device and click Begin Unlock Bootloader. Then I get this dialog box, “Do you wish to continue?” I click yes and nothing happens, I wait, and wait, then click no and it responds by going back to the prior page where you select your device. So I tried selecting other devices and none of them work, sounds like a problem on their site. So I’m at a stand still maybe you can try it and see if step 1 will work for you? by the way I only see 5 steps,like the Attached Thumbnail I uploaded in post #3. also must be a common problem for htcdev just google htcdev and see the results of autocomplete (Thumbnail).

This is what i'm trying to do right?,he recommends getting SDK tools too, is this what I should do? In taking your advice to read up on... I googled "rooting and roms and custom recoveries" that's how I found the video.

Download this http://dinc.does-it.net/Recoveries/TWRP_2.5.0.0/recovery.img to your pc and place it in the same folder as fastboot.exe and the unlock_code.bin. Put the phone in fastboot mode. Open a cmd prompt in your pc and type

You should now have twrp recovery installed. To get to it pull the battery, reinsert, and then hold vol down and power untill hboot comes up. Then navigate to recovery and select it. Once in recovery select wipe and then advanced and select everything except sdcard and emmc, then swipe the bar to start the wipe. We will go from there depending on what happens.

Ready for the next step.

Well it looks like everything wiped ok, your partitions are probably fine. So you can just flash a rom of your choosing. Check out the dev section, there are tons of roms there including stock rooted roms if you want to keep the original feel.

Should I install SuperSU?

1 first screen HTC Incredible
2 teamwin loading screen
3 teamwin main screen, to shut down, I tap reboot
4 at the Reboot Menu I select Power Off then....
5 No OS Installed, “Are you sure you wish to continue” and I Swipe to Power Off.
6 Then I see Install SuperSU, which Roots phone. Should I do this?
Should I install SuperSU?, I tap Do Not Install because I’m not sure what to do.
I want to install the operating system you have or a stock version, Touch Of Blue V3.0
At the dev site I was looking at kernel is that the same as rom?
Can you please guide me with links, let me know which way we are going and how to do it.

So with my wake up automatic update message this morning I decided to use Rumrunner and finally root. Couldn't have worked better honestly. Got in through Root Explorer, killed off the stuff I didn't want from the bloat and then got rid of the sounds and wallpapers I never use. Perfect, just as good as an experience as I had when I did the DInc2. Then I decided to make it even 'better' by getting rid of those annoying .odex files. I wiped them all, I don't know what I was thinking, I'm an idiot. I have a great phone that now can't get past the Verizon screen. How can I fix this as my wife is not amused with the cost associated with my stupidity. The laptop doesn't recognize the phone as even being there anymore. Is this a lost cause?

Put the stock odexed rom from my thread in development section in your adb/fastboot directory on your PC.
Enter Recovery, assuming you installed a custom recovery.
If not, do that first, using the links in Flyhalfs threads in our Verizon One Original Dev section.
In Recovery go to Advanced in TWRP I believe and do adb sideload > swipe to sideload.
Then you will need to enter in terminal: adb sideload filename.zip from within the fastboot directory with the stock file in that same directory.
Use the filename of the zip you are sideloading. Once its done pushing, it will flash the rom and then you can reboot.

I had tried straight off after the root to install CWM and it gave the option to do TWRP. I had a blank black screen and then kind of stalled so I forced it into the bootloader screen and just reset. In the present time if I attempt the recovery selection it just stalls again, a black yet obviously backlit screen. My new download of ADB does not look the same as it had when I did the last phone either. I don't know what I've fouled up here.

I'll send it out at this point to make the pain go away and have someone undo it.

I can try and walk you through getting fastboot or adb set up so that you can try fixing it on your end.
It's also pretty well laid out in guides on Google.
If you really wanted to have it fixed for you, I'm about 12 hours or so south of where you are if you wanted to mail it here and back.
Up to you, hit me up via PM if you decide you wanna mail it.
Otherwise, myself and/or others will gladly help you undo it I'm sure man.

Ok, knocked out the TWRP stuff myself and can get it to sideload screen but the command promp screen shows this when trying to push it over: C:\Android\adt-bundle-windows-x86_64-20131030\sdk\platform-tools>adb sideload 1.10.605.15_M7_WL_JB_50_VZW_Deodex_Full.zip

Double check the md5 of the downloaded file.
Also shorten the path to the file, at least the folder names leading up to it, so that it's more direct.
Less chance of error or too deep of a path.
Something Like:
C:\Android\sdk\sdk\platform-tools>adb sideload 1.10.605.15_Deodex_Full.zip

You will have to rename a directory and a file or so to get it like that and this may not be the issue, but should certainly eliminate potential for issues.

Getting a 'device not found' error and the HTC driver when rebooting says did not load. I see on the MOUNT tab in TWRP different options, one of which is System which was not ticked should I click that and let it go try?

Yeah try that, you may need to grab HTC Sync and install it if you haven't if your existing drivers aren't cooperating.

MD5 was corrupt, I finally got it to push.

Used pdaNet for drivers.

Blu Advance 4.0 L A010U ROMs

I really need to find at least the stock ROM for the new-ish Blu Advance 4.0L (model A010U), because the most recent OTA update unforgivingly bricked mine. Now I want to try to re-flash the stock ROM, but I am also open to custom ROMs, if there are any available. Please help me out! Thanks in advance

I am really surprised no one has replied yet, but again I am facing the same problem and I've been searching the Internet for one month now and I found absolutely nothing for this phone (specifically for version A010U).
So I am going to post a different question in the hopes that someone will read it and help us out:
I have two Blu Advance 4.0 L A010U phones, which are identical except for the color (white and green). They were manufactured a month apart one in 10/2015 and one in 9/2015.
Unfortunately after only a couple of months of light use and for no apparent reason (did not drop it, or wet it, etc) it started going through a boot loop. It will start, show the "bold like us" logo then restart again without making it to the operating system at all. Like I said I've been looking for over a month to find a ROM (stock or modded) to reflash but with no luck. Then I had an idea. Since I have the other identical phone that's working fine, is there a trick I can do using the working phone to create a ROM that I can use in my broken one. By the way, the non working phone will allow me to get into the recovery menu, but unfortunately nothing happens if I wipe the cache or even if I reset to factory defaults.
Anyone knows what's causing that "boot loop", how to fix it and where to find a ROM or even "extract" or "create" one using a working Advance 4.0 L ???

Man I wish I knew. I'm kinda a novice. I have the same phone with a similar problem... I downloaded the recent ota update and the first time it said it couldn't unzip it. I tried again and it seemed to work but when it rebooted into recovery it said there was an error... So it won't boot up, it just goes to the screen that says "no command". I'm pretty sure the there's a way to make a copy of the working ROM but since I don't use a PC for anything I've never taken the time to learn the method.

I just got ahold of a couple of these devices myself and am in the process of going through all the in's and out's of them....I'm a Samsung nerd so I haven't messed with something like these in a while but I got one (that was supposedly dead bricked per the lady friend of mine I got them from) at least able to boot into factory mode and recovery via ADB and just as I'm posting this I'm in adb shell going through the device's internal memory.....so we'll see what all I find and can pull out of this one and possibly know enough to post an intelligible reply with solutions next time
The boot looping sounds like a common problem with these and when I get to that point I'm going to get rid of the stock bootanimation.zip ASAP and try something else. I get the idea that these things aren't exactly power houses built for much so the littlest thing or small bug in their coding could lead to this kind of crap happening.
Hopefully you figure yours out before I toss these out the window! lol

Forgot to add a couple things about your post, sorry! I beleive (and I just started digging into this phone) that the no command part is the locked bootloader these phones appear to have. I think it was a combo of holding both volume buttons down from a powered off state then pressing power button on that came up with the option for factory mode or recovery (which led to the sad 'no command' droid), i went into factory mode and theres an option for Tp Upgrade which Im assuming is F/W or something similar but I just hooked up to the PC and in that mode it's reading the internal and external memory of the phone and that's about where I'm at so far.

Anywho, I found a repository that is storing the default ROM for the 4.0L. The files were just added recently. I would have liked to have seen a custom Lollipop ROM made by now, but this device is far too irrelevant to get any attention, unfortunately. Just root and forget, I guess.

You have my respect for digging out that BLU ROMs link and sharing with the rest of us. I downloaded the one for my Advance and used SP flash tool to flash the phone that was stuck on a boot-loop. Of course first I had to download and install the MediaTeK drivers for USB connectivity with my PC. Everything worked flawlessly, no glitches what so ever. All these links are easily found and widely available online if anyone is interested I can share here too. I just hope that this boot-loop was due to some software glitch and not hardware failure. Everything seems to work fine for now, keepint my fingers crossed it will NOT happen again.
Well, one less headache to worry about. By the way we're not that far, if you're ever in the Chicago area, I owe you a beer or something. Thank you!

So, I need to root it in order to recover the IMEI, but I just can´t get success on any method :

I got temporary root using the kingroot apk. But it messed things up and I don't trust it anymore. None of the other mentioned methods worked for me either, maybe try the PC kingroot method

umm. . . when the no command option comes up just press the power button and the rest of options will appear. doesnt exactly solve your problem however unless you have the ZIP file to install, which is what I'm looking for.

What might happen if a ROM is used for another blu phone. ??

I haven't even looked here in a while, so I will bunch my commentary here. I'm also salaried now, so I bought into a OnePlus X (onyx), a more expensive cheapo device, so I do not use the 4.0L anymore.
As for rooting tools, I used the Kingroot APK successfully in the stock environment. I never tried flashing something SuperSU myself, but it could work. Is flashing a SU app possible from the fastboot interface?
And to Steve's question - it is technically possible to flash a ROM for a different device onto your own device, but is considered a bad idea due to the possibility of introducing incompatibilities and missing proprietary requirements. I feel like this would hold especially true to stock ROMs because the manufacturer probably has no interest in supporting anything more than the device that they are manufacturing for. Doing so removes many possible "compatibility" issues from even having to be considered, but I digress. In short, try to find a ROM made for your device and your device only.

i root my blu advance 4.0l a010u with the kingoroot PC apk, but i got some issues with the lock screen and some apps, so, i need some advice..
i was looking for a zip to use it via recovery but i can't find any..

You dont need root to recover imei all you have to do is type *#*#84666364#*#* in your dialer and you will be entered in EngineerMode then go into connectivity ,CDS information and radio information phone 1 or 2 then you will see AT+ type something eg.A then backspace and select the first thing you see. Put a space after AT+ and then put you imei code here "IMEI" between these "" You can find your imei by removing your battery it willl be there. After sending command reboot and imei is back.

Tab S(8.4) LTE T705 stuck at Samsung logo while updating to marshmallow

Hi,newbie here.My device isn't rooted.Yesterday, I downloaded Marshmallow update 6.0.1.At 43%,I started the update.I thought it will complete in that.you know,the logo and all came.I watched it updating till 85% then got on with my work.Then,I felt a vibration.I saw it rebooting and then it showed samsung logo in all white.It wouldn't move forwards after that.I heard 3 vibrations periodically.The 1st one...4 sec gap...and then the 2nd & 3rd vibrations in quick succession.And it would go on infinitely until the battery discharged.I plugged it in the wall charger and then I noticed the charging has also become very slow.I left it for charging at 6 AM and till now(12:14pm),its just 58%.I read in a thread about force restrat and quickly going into recovery mode.I wiped the cache partition hoping it would solve the problem but it didn't. I couldn't understand the rest of the part,so I didn't try.I selected power off option and right now it is charging.I have important data stored on the internal storage so I fear doing a factory reset.I also have fingerprint lock on it so I have no idea how to connect to PC and use.I got no idea about flashing roms.Is there any possible way to revert back to lollipop? I just want my data before I do something.Please help.Also,I had some pics(only pics) in the private mode.I also need to recover that.

Yea your going to have to flash a stock image via Odin.
Your going to have to do some reading on XDA, no way round it, there is no quick fix with a few buttons lol.
Here is the general flow, read on XDA to fill in your gapps.
1. Find load Samsung USB drivers
2. Find latest version of ODIN, Samsung flashing tool
3. Find and download stock image suitable for your version / country
4. Flash it
like I said read, read, and read again, all the info you need is here in good detail.

The thread which you mentioned has a stock recovery for T805 I think.I got T705.Will it work for mine or would i have to download for t705?

Nope best get one for t705, but while you are here I would flash twrp custom recovery here,

That recovery has a file manager in it, you can copy files around before you ever get to booting android, which is exactly what you need for your data.
You seem to be progressing quite fine, another day or so an you will have the experience necessary, you put yourself down on the first post, there is nothing wrong with your technical skills, your obviously a bright chap.
I'm not at all sure of private mode, have zero clue what it is or how it works, but I'm confident it can be cracked somehow. After all most other parts of Samsung have been cracked including fingerprint/pin lock.
But if you first flash twrp and see if you can data off that way, then if that fails we can have a go at cracking Samsung propper.
Yes tab is fine, data is fine, both will be back with a little time and effort.

Do i need to flash twrp recovery specific for my device or is it same for everyone?If it is specific,where can I get one? And is it necessary for my device to be rooted in order to install twrp recovery? And by back up,will I be able to replicate my entire data including app data,files,documents,etc. which was stored before it went into bootloop or will twrp help me recover only selective stuff?

Nope do not need root.
From twrp you can do anything you need, full backup, selective, Fix your current system, flash a new one without overwriting your data pretty much anything.
What avenue we need to take depends totally what your data is and where it was stored, the answers in the detail, if its sensitive you can pm me.
But first be VERY CONFIDENT you have read everything you can get about ODIN and flashing twrp. I can guide you but your there not me, its up to you to know what you are doing. Just read a bit more, I think another day or so of intensive reading and you will be there. Nope do not need root.
From twrp you can do anything you need, full backup, selective, Fix your current system, flash a new one without overwriting your data pretty much anything.

Could you be available to guide me along the way as I don't want to mess this up? I am pretty confident now that I know that my data is safe and can be recovered. Data mostly consists of some docs and rest are valuable photos.I am just worried about the data stored on private mode(just photos).whether I will be able to recover it or not.So,I really need an expert's way to get it done.I have been reading a lot and I think I am ready. I have messed up my exams due to this.I have an exam tomorrow LOL.And I am busy with this because I won't get settled before I fix it.Also,thanks a lot for your valuable info and attention.

Dude if I was there would do it for you lol, yes sure will help you all the way.
Now your up to speed, I will write you a detailed guide to get your data, with as many screenshots as can take, I'm 90% sure your data is not encrypted, hence is somewhere on the tab in plain format.
If you don't need the data for exams, drop this for a couple of days and concentrate on what's left of exams. I will have your detailed guide finished when you do.

I had some notes and assignments in that.Though,I can work somehow without them.But,I need to fix this within 3 to 4 days.

Just did a Google on private mode, the files under private mode ARE encrypted, that means although you can recover them you can't read them.
If we repair the tab they SHOULD. Be accessible ( once back in private mode) , but zero guarantees.
The other files, no problem.

Hey,my exams are finally over.Can you give a final walkthrough so that things don't go sideways? It would be really helpful.

You seem to be blowing this out of proportion and making it more complicated than it actually is.
The first thing you should do is simply install the stock firmware via odin. There are literally hundreds of in depth guides how to do this. Even the websites you download the software from usually have a guide.
I suggest you install the same android version you originally had as this is safest. If that doesn't boot then move on to the Marshmallow update.
Dont expect instant boot after installing either as the update can take some time to boot.
If worse comes to worse then there is always the option of installing Twrp. However there should be no reason your device shouldn't boot after installing the stock firmware unless the device has had a hardware failure.
Your private folder files should also be accessible via Twrp. They aren't encrypted in my experience and I have accessed files in the private folder just fine.

Although its also for Fenris users it should suit you just fine.
But this is just for flashing TWRP on a T705, its not covering flashing a standard image.

Yea and i have just created another guide for flashing TWRP, in my opinion a lot better quality then the ones you find around ( for a start using screenshots of up to date TWRP and Odin )
