Disclaimer:
This guide will be a kind of all-in-one reference for our devices since I can't find any similar guide like that. If you have any sugestion post in thread or send me a PM. This will trigger Knox!!!. Your warranty is void. After root there is no way back to knox count, I saw many people asking if knox can be preserved or restored, I can afirm if you dont change your motherboard you can't reset Knox count, because it's trigged by a physical part inside, it's a kind of fuse in processor that burn after you flash something not official. After you root you can't recive OTA updates, even if you unroot and restore to stock, because knox count will be trigged.
Root [step by step]
1 - Download [Look, download the cf auto root for your device]
Samsung Drivers
Odin 3.10
Cf-autoroot-P600
Cf-autoroot-P601
2 - Install Samsung USB Drivers
3 - Unzip Odin files and Cf-auto root at the same folder
4 - Put your device in download mode [power button + vol down + home] and press volume up after warning message.
5 - Connect your device using the original cable
6 - Go to odin folder and run odin as administrator
NOW BECAREFUL IF YOU DON’T KNOW WHAT YOU DOING YOU GOING TO BRICK YOUR DEVICE.
7 - In option section must be ticked JUST: auto-reboot and F.Reset Time
8 - Click on AP button and select the Cf-auto-root for your device
9 - Then Start
10 - Your device will reboot couple times and you are rooted with SuperSU.
Install TWRP Recovery [step by step]
1 - Donwload twrp (Choose one)
TWRP-2.6.3.3 (is the most stable one, thanks to 22sl22 to give me this information)
TWRP-2.7.1.1
TWRP-2.8.1
2 - Go your settings -> General -> About Phone -> Click five times on build number
3 - You have unlocked developers options and turn on
4 - Put your device in download mode [power button + vol down + home] and press volume up after warning message.
5 - Connect your device using the original cable
6 - Go to odin folder and run odin as administrator
7 - Click on AP and select twrp-recovery that you downloaded
8 - If the md5 check is ok, then press START
9 - Good you installed the twrp recovery
Install Busy Box [step by step][root required]
1 - Download and install Busybox on Rails from market
2 - Grant root access and then click on Install

I'm curious, why you wanted this version of recovery? Is it more stable than 2.8 version for our devices?

In some circumstances, yes. 2.6.3.3 is considered the most stable TWRP version because others have issues. Some people might not have issues on newer versions but a lot of people do, the most prominent issue is wiping cache, it gets stuck on most versions except for 2.6.3.3, that's why I still use that version as well :good:
If 2.8 works for you though then thats fine, it's just that 2.6.3.3 is the most stable

This is the thread I am referring to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2977061. So I figured having a more stable recovery was required. I use TWRP 2.8.1 my old s3 d2lte. It works fine there but for our tablet some have issues with anything newer the 2.6.3. That is why I requested that version.

Fair warning, but, I rooted the device last December. I did a factory reset and flashed back to unrooted stock a couple months later. I have received three OTA updates since.

All I need is to get access to write and erase on the sd card. So do I still need to install twrp and busybox?.

Can I ask what are the benefits of installing twrp and busybox?

anyone please?

TWRP is a custom recovery that will let you flash custom ROM's

Or you can flash other files with it like custom versions of apps and interfaces, like Dark Google play store or even custom keyboards that might not be able to be installed normally.
BUSYBOX is an interface that allows UNIX commands to run inside the Android environment further enhancing the Super user capabilities. I hope this helps.

actually sir, i m going to flash Custom Rom so, thats why i was install CWM,
actually my main purpose to flash custom rom, to feel much more fluid ui..
Ok ok then just keep cwm and flash desired custom rom.
I advised to make nandroid backup, you having mount error may be due to issue with sds card, copy sd card sd content to PC and then format it, then it should work.
Make nandroid on ext sd card, to preserve it if you need to wipe anytime.
Goodluck
Edit :
Don't forget to make efs backup and move copy of it to safe on pc.

[Q] How to root and install a recovery

I cant seem to find an updated guide with files to root and install a custome recovery on the sprint note 2 with 4.3 can someone help me find a link or get me the files etc?
Thanks
Recovery
I went to cyanogenmods website and ran the installer as directed. That installed cyanogenmod and rooted the device automatically, then you can download and flash any of the other custom ROMs on this site.
I rooted 4.3 with allinone toolkit clicking older variation and worked fine

Do this
1. Boot into download/bootloader mode.
2. Connect to pc and use odin to flash twrp. Make sure you uncheck reboot and flash twrp in the pda slot.
3. Once flashed pull battery and disconnect from pc.
4. Press vol+ menu power buttons while inserting battery (yes it is difficult but can be done)
5. Now in recovery perform factory reset.
6. Flash this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=36388145
7. Now reboot it will act/look weird but dont worry this is normal. It will reboot and take a long time to boot.
Now you are on stock mc2 (no knox anymore). Root using cf autoroot http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=33278464
Now use odin once again and flash your recovery again. Now you are rooted and have a custom recovery. Oh and you have a working phone again.

Before I do all of that...I discovered I can boot into TWRP and updated it to the newest version. Then I installed the cyanogen nightly onto the phone. Everything seemed to be working ok except I couldn't get any phone signal but wifi worked. I tried loading the dirty unicornes rom and the same thing happened . I then flashed cm 10.1 and the phone worked for calls but the asop keyboard kept crashing and couldn't login to the wifi network. I tried several installs with factory resets with the same results. If I follow the directions you listed will I be able to install these roms and the phone work for calls or am I missing another piece of the puzzle?

I managed to root mine with motochopper. I had some issues getting it to root because running bat file as amin doesn't work and you have to run it as normal user.
Finally gain root with motochopper, always failed before
I fail gain root with motochopper, here is what i do the last time and get root
The latest version of Kingo Android Root did it for me. Just download it, put your cellphone into usb debug mode in the configuration settings, conect it to your computer via usb and run the program.
Since I'm a new user I can't give you the link to the download site, but you can easily find it through google.

I have successfully achieved root access and have verified it through several apps, and also have supersu installed and seemingly operating fine. I have tried using the 'g pro kitkat recovery' app to flash the recovery, and also freegee but freegee at the opening screen says my device is unsupported. When i go into rom manager v5.5.3.7 and try install a custom rom or even just tap boot to recovery i get an error at the loading screen with the LG logo and it sits there. Am i doing something wrong or is the 20h update keeping me from being to successfully reach recovery? Any insight is greatly appreciated.

20h may be blocking you off...
You could try using LG Flash Tool to go back to stock 4.1.2 (E98010k) and then using FreeGee to bypass and go from there. But idk if that'll work.

aidenthefirst, or anyone else....
You ever figure out how to load recovery on the 20h update? Id also like to install CWM or TWRP without having to roll back to 20g.
Thanks.

I don't think that's possible. You're going to have to flash back to an older version using lg flash tools. If you need to back up anything like texts and contacts, use G Cloud. If you need game data/other data related to specific apps backed up, use Helium. If you're attached to stock try flashing a stock ROM, it will be very similar to your experience now. That'll ensure you get the latest KitKat and still get stock experience... you can always go AOSP too.
thanks... I was hoping to just not have to Flashtools my phone again =P and since its been a while since I checked the forums I wasnt sure if 20h was sorted out yet or not.

I found the way to do it without having to roll your system back to anything older than 20h. Let me type it all up And make sure I have the proper links and app names and will post in a bit

OK so after you achieve root access on your phone download the apk in the link below. Install it open it and run it. You should now be able to have full recovery access...

So apparently I haven't posted enough in threads to attach a link from outside this site. PM me for the link.

This is the link i found to download the app I used on my e98020h to unlock recovery. I hope it works as well for you all as it did for me.

So I'm running into another problem and after a lot of 'googling' I can't find an answer. But running purely stock unrooted and my SD card reads and writes fine. Now that I have rooted and fully obtained recovery access my phone will not recognize much less use it. Any suggestions?

I found this elsewhere trying to unlock my e980 that was on 20h when I got it.
OK so I found that G Pro KK recovery elsewhere and installed it but wasn't sure what to do from there.. Which option did you choose when running it? Flash recovery, reboot, or reboot recovery? I tried to reboot to recovery and I got into a CWM recovery, but at that point wasn't sure if I was really there or if I needed to flash the recovery from there or from the app.
I'm dying to get rid of the stock ROM on this thing but there are more steps involved than my previous devices.
Thanks!

All the APK does as I have found out is 'unlocks' the recovery access. After I ran that app I installed Freegee from the app store and installed the CMW recovery from there just to make sure it all was installed and correctly accessible. at that point you just need to download the ROM that you are intending to install and download it. put the zip somewhere in your directory. boot to recovery wipe the necessary mediums and then install from the app and CWM will take care of the rest. Most of the forum threads that have the links to the ROMs will have full instructions on how to install that certain ROM. I can supply links to some if need be. NOT MY THREADS but ones I found helpful.

installing the ROM isn't an issue for me, it's getting the recovery installed.
What process did you do after starting up the G Pro Recovery app? install recovery, reboot, then run freegee?

Yes. Open and run the G Pro Recovery app, once that is done you need to reboot. Install Freegee and open it. I installed CWM. You can use whatever you want. Then I reboot again, once the phone comes back up I used clockwork mods recovery manager to get in and out of recovery. Also, I pulled my SD card out of the phone prior to rooting as I would lose access to it after I did the process. So just to be safe you might want to do that.

Once you take the update then root your device again you have to do a factory reset on your phone in order to flash a recovery. Currently running E98020I, been there, done that! G Pro KitKat then FreeGee. Mic check 1 2, 1 2

If you just want to install the recovery, get an app call flashify from the play store. Install the app, then download and then flash the twrp .IMG file that you've gotten from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3144369

Hello, I have a common problem with my devise being not the only one connected to PC/emulated.
"Error: more than one device/emulator" - I have an additional offline emulator and i cant track what created it.
I was able to correct this issue by adding
adb -s (dev. serial) wait-for-devices
adb -s (dev. serial) reboot bootloader
(or "-d" if there is only one physical device)
In .bat files in similar programs, but this package is a bit too complicated for me and i am not sure how and where to correct this. Any advice?

i write the script using new adb platform 1.035. The script will still running on the background even you close the window. You need to choose menu EXIT when you done.
For me v1.035 more better than v1.032.
Every menu already test and work very well
