It's not a bug. Kernel prevents accidently wake up with checking proximity sensor.

Wait a couple minutes and try again. If you try and tap to wake while sensor is covered it disables tao to wake for a short period of time. It helps save a lot of battery drain.

Hello,
I have my desire with a faulty proximity sensor, witch means that sometimes I cant hang up my phone calls
Is there any application that can assign any hardware button for my screen to wake up during a phone call?
I tried programs that claim to do that, but the information and action performed by the proximity sensor seems to override all programs.
can someone help me?
best regards
Does the power button not do this?
hi,
nope
with an active call and proximity sensor on, I cant get any hardware button to work.

Then no .
Just go to your retailer with it. If it's under warranty, they're obligated to replace it for you.
it's not under warranty...
isnt there a way to disable the proximity sensor? I wouldn't mind if the screen stays on all the time when in call..
can someone help?
regards
Turn your screen timeout to 30 mins? If your proximity sensor isn't working then it won't turn the screen dark when you put the phone to your ear.
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
My problem might be with the two sensors (proximity and light). As soon as I make a call the proximity sensor orders the screen to shut down and to wake up the screen I have to point a bright light...
I think the solution... if there is... is to disable the proximity and light sensor forcing values.
any help besides get the phone to repair and pay $$$$
If you plugin the headset you get the screen back.
Howdy Campers!
Quick question about the proximity sensor and in call screen off. When i have this feature checked "Turn off screenduring calls" should the proximity sensor be active and turn the screen on and off if i have it up to my head??This is what the feature reports to do.
When checked the screen goes off and will not come back on (none of the buttons seem to wake the screen, only end of call will).
Any ideas??
thanks!

Do you have a screen protector on or maybe accidentally covering the proximity sensor? The phone is supposed to wake when the proximity sensor isn't covered, not when the call is ended.
Sent from my SGH-M919 using xda premium
No screen protector or case
actually it looks like the proximity sensor isnt working well for anything....
besides the calls the air gestures (scrolling) stopped working.
I dont think smart stay works either....
i factory reset the phone still nothing
on the lock screen i do see the little white dot follow my hand around so not sure what to think.
any suggestions before i take this back to the store for a replacement?
Hello guys
I have bought my pixel 3 xl recently
Today i tried to take a picture for my phone and it is locked ( screen off)
I noticed the sensor is always on in the notch
It is infrared sensor
I think it is the proximity sensor
I think this caused a huge battery drain in my phone
Maybe 2% per hour
Do you have the same sensor always on condition ?
Looks like the sensor is always on whenever the ambient display / double tap to check the phone is triggered
I have turned it off and i will monitor battery behavior

You shouldn't have to turn off AOD, and double tap does not use the proximity sensor. AOD is a key feature of the phone and I'm not seeing this. Try setting it back the way it was originally and running in safe mode to rule out a possible errant user app.

Double tap to wake needs proximity sensor to detect if the phone in your pocket
I have disabled AOD and double tap to wake
My battery has improved, also the phone now has less battery drain.
Lift to wake is not very responsive, sometimes it works, a lot it doesn't.. any ideas if anything can be done

It has to be a really deliberate gesture, and you have to lift it to 90 degrees i've found.
I turn it off and use double tap to wake, the most under-rated feature ever.

Thanks, yes i use double tap to view the lockscreen aswell.. it's just quicker for the fingerprint scanner if the screens on when i pick it up.. I'll try be more pronounced. Cheers
Mines is very responsive
Same, I turned it off
I had to switch it off, as I do not always want the phone to wake up every time I pick it! I use double tap to wake, really useful, specially if combined with double tap to lock with Nova launcher
I just upgraded from an S8 to a 21 FE, I had this setup where my screen will turn off using the proximity sensor, so when I open my case cover or lift it up from the table it just turns on automatically.
Upgrading, I notice the apps I used (Gravity Screen, Smart Screen On Off) are not working as they used to. In most tests, I did seem to suggest the proximity sensor only responds when the front lens is covered by my thumb instead of just hovering over with my hand like before. I did the *#77692# test and the Proximity sensor is working fine then WHEN I enable it so I'm at a lost here, is this a technical issue, is this by design

I did, but I'm used to waving my phone awake with both my hand and by opening my phone case, but it seems the more recent Galaxy phones don't allow the same use of the proximity sensor

A touch sensor while the screen is locked can consume less power than a proximity sensor placed in a camera, for example.
