Hey guys im new to the forum. I have a sprint lg g3 i rooted with stump root when i first got the phone. I did the ota update and rebooted and super su said something about binary not being rite. (sorry for my lame terms) and tweak box is no longer working and xposed installer says frame work is not there soooo i tryed to re root with stump and its saying im already rooted. ??????? Also im new to this type of root. What is the difference between this and flashing roms with twrp? Im used to that coming from a note 2. But im not very good with computers so please excuse me for questions that are kind of like um why do you not already know that. And also since tis update my battery is getting killed. Thanks in advance for the help guys

Good afternoon guys,
I have a few set of questions and I will be glad if someone is able to kindly help me out. Please keep in mind that I am not an android expert as far as rooting, custom roms, etc... So I ask for patience from you guys!
Now... into the questions. I got my LG G2 2 weeks ago from Sprint. Great solid phone with killer specs. I previously had a Galaxy Epic 4G Touch. I was looking into rooting my LG G2 phone. However, somewhere in an article online, I read that, if I were to root my LG, I would no longer receive OTA software updates... Like an updated android version for example.. Is that true? I dont care about loosing root after updating. I just dont want to root my phone, receive an OTA update and then mess up my phone.. So thats my first question.
Next... I've done quite a few research online on how to root the G2 from sprint. What i am currently having issues with is finding the drivers. I know I must install them prior to attempting anything else. I read that I could use the Tmobile version drivers even though I am on sprint. But no luck finding those either. Could someone provide me with a link to download the drivers? Thanks! (Windows 8)
And last... I've seen many methods on rooting this device, that at the end, was confused on which one to use. Soo.. could someone share a link of a working method to root the LG G2 from Sprint (Android 4.4.2)
Thank you guys and I will be very grateful for any help. :good:
Any change of the android operating system with ota can fail. They are looking it seems note for any excuse to break the phone if you do anything. Best idea is to make sure you can unroot, then take ota.
Best way to root is go with ioroot25. I believe it is in lg g2 general.

Thank you for your reply.
How would I unroot my G2? Would I use ioroot25? Or is there some type of app that I would have to download? Correct me if I'm wrong, but... Is it possible to unroot with SuperSU ones is installed on your phone after a sucessful root?
Thanks.! :good:
SuperSU can unroot (and temp unroot, though anybodies guess if it'll survive an OTA). There's several other temp unrooters, I often use Hide My Root (try to get some perspective on what the device *actually* works like). Otherwise, removing su, supersu, busybox (if installed) and whatever else until /system looks unmodified works. If there's custom recovery, you (as well as I) probably need to flash that back to stock as well. Or.. quite likely there will be a version around to flash without taking the actual OTA update if there isn't already (haven't checked the other thread). That'll likely be the easiest rather than bother with redoing the work to fix it up again.
Nothing is risk-free of course, but unrooted and flashed back to stock recovery it should be at least fairly unlikely to hurt anything. Of course that's often the stuff I mess up.

Hey
So i'm rooted using stump root... I have a lot of root apps and xposed modules installed and i'm not really in the mood for a clean install..
Today i got the update 10L.. I was on 10i.
I have stock recovery on there and i have the d855.
How do I update this without losing my stuff? I know I can always disable the notification but I'd rather not.
Thanks in advance.

A quick search would have yielded this thread. Please use search before creating a new thread.
I searched a lot about this a couple of weeks ago but couldn't find anything. I guess i thought it was still unanswered... Thanks anyway and i'm sorry ..
I just got my G4 Unlocked international H815 model. It's running 5.1 software on ATT. It keeps bugging me trying to OTA software update. Not sure what it's trying to update to exactly, because the only way to see more info is to hit continue with update and there's no turning back from there.
I love this phone unlocked! it didn't have any bloatware I usually root to delete when I get my phone from the carrier. It's got stuff like Wifi hotspot stock and the FM radio and charges over QI instead of Powercrap ... etc.
My question is
if it's already got most of the stuff I root to access, do I let the OTA update happen and risk not being able to root?
not sure what all I'd gain.
I'm wary about rooting because my last phone was the LG G3 and I rooted it and despite me disabling all update processes, it updated itself one day on my way to work and got screwed up so bad I had to force a downgrade and put a rom on it and after a couple days of holding a 600$ paperweight, I finally got it up and running on a rom... still had some bugs but it worked.
I REALLY want to avoid that nightmare with this 3 day old phone.
opinions welcome!
Thanks
Are you saying it's already rooted? If it is, the OTA won't work anyway. You have to unroot and flash the update using LG bridge. but then you can just root it again using the same method. The update doesn't block root. Lots of us have done it. Read the rooting threads.
G4 TweaksBox. One reason to root. ^_^
Adaway, no more adverts in apps. another (big for me) reason to root.
What version are you on now? It's probably only the stagefright fix.
Root...flash TWRP...flash cyanogen 12.1
Install xposed framework and get the YouTube adaway module. That's deffo a reason to ROOT.

You need an unlocked bootloader to flash TWRP / CM.
I'm running stock v10d + root. Works awesomely.

Yes mine's unlocked, NOT rooted. apparently the update it was trying to do automatically wasn't a big update because it decided it had waited long enough and did it on its own, rebooted and its still at
5.1
I'm still trying to wrap my head around all the terminology and methods of rooting droids- I came from the dark side- I've jailbroken every iphone since the first one they ever produced. My G3 was my first real phone, but like I said, I had it for a couple months stock, rooted it, and almost immediately it went kamikaze OTA update while rooted and went haywire. I limped by with a mediocre rom for another 8 months, until some drunk A Hole destroyed it on Halloween. I may or may not be said A Hole haha
So I guess now my question is, once rooted, am I stuck at 5.1 forever with no security updates, software patches ETC?
and since most people don't have a true unlocked phone, is this process easier to do? I'm probably asking in the wrong forum section now aren't I?
I sure hope at this point if you truly have an unlocked bootloader, that you have the latest MM version 20B installed and have root! - I find that the stock ROM is the best performing and least buggy of any of them (with some minor tweakin)
Unable to Unlock BootLoader. SOS!!!
Hi guys! need a lil help here. I have LG G4 H815. Now this is what's happening :
1. I have tried t install LG drivers a million times but in the device manager, there's always some problem with them during the installation.
2. Therefore, I'm unable to locate my phone using 'adb devices'. I'm stuck on this first step for last 1 week and I have tried every available lg driver on the internet but still the result is same.
3. I'm using Windows 8 Pro.
What's the solution here guys? Your help will highly be appreciated.
you need "disable driver signature verification" to install it
(advanced reboot options from windows)
Still stuck!

I did as you said and disabled the driver signature verification at restart. Uninstalled the driver and installed again but still the problem persists.
When I connect the phone, LGE Android phone appears with a yellow question mark in the device manager. When I try to update the driver, it says that
"Windows found driver software for your device but encountered an error while attempting to install it.
MTP USB Device.
The system cannot find the file specified."
Still can't locate the device with adb. Please help me!
However bootloader unlock is not available for the H815P... :/
Sent from my LG-H815 using XDA-Developers mobile app
But...but...
But sir, my phone is H-815, not H-815P.
Please help me where I'm making the mistake. I want to root my phone but nothing is helping me out.
Hi I have a lg g3 t mobile 285130e and I ve been trying to root it and nothing works, watching here and there I have not found yet a way to root it. I want it rooted because LG has dropped the updates of system in this phone and it is such a good one that I don't want to change though, Looking forward to try Cyanogen mod or lineage OS android 7.0.1 ...so if anyone could point me out to someone that successfully has rooted one of these phones, let me know, please thanks.
Gus
Have not worked with lg. To Root phone install TWRP for your device model, then install supersu zip. After restart get root checker basic to verify phone is rooted.
