[Q] Camera Flash Stopped Working - Galaxy Tab S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Anyone encountered camera flash stopped working suddenky in camera mode, flashlight app or other 3rd party app? I used to clear dalvik and cache n it was ok for awhile but now it totally stopped working. Will reflashing it and reformatting it bring back the flash? T705 user here btw.

Well let's find out if it is a software issue or hardware issue. Backup your current ROM, then wipe data, flash a new rom and see if it works. If it doesn't it's hardware issue.

i already reformat everything and reflash.... it was fine till one point it started again. what i did next, i tried to fix permission in TWRP and it works!!! i wonder which permission causes the flash to stop working.... i had to fix permissionb everytime it stopped working....
anyone knows any way of which i can actually see what or which thing that causes the break??

My Tab S (T700) wont flash too! Only rarely. I tried in complete darkness and no flash! Im prolly gonna end up registering for this site just to comment!

camera and flash problem!

Hi,
my desire camera is giving me problems lately.first after flashing various froyo roms(miui, oxygen and defrost),the flash would go off randomly,be it surfing web, playing games, messaging etc.Now the camera would sometimes not work and an error msg saying not responding and would need to force close. If it works, the flash will not go off even it is set to flash on.Now the torch app is not working either.the flash light would not on.
I read that 2.2 have this camera problem.does anyone had similar problem like me?
Did u wipe when installing a new rom?
Sent from my HTC Desire using XDA App
i always wipe data/factory reset and wipe dalvik cache.
now my camera seems to work..but still no flash....hw fault?
I think I read somewhere that booting up without sim and sd card fixed it for a other guy. A little far-fetched but it might work.

[Q] Auto-rotate not working on apps

what's up guys so i recently rooted my phone and flashed the latest cm7 (7.0.2). i couldn't help but to notice that my auto-rotate does not work on apps. i.e. web browser, txting, etc. It DOES rotate when i slide the keyboard out, but it's stuck on portrait if i don't have the keyboard out. I've tried ticking an unticking various things such as auto-rotate, being able to rotate an additional 180 degrees..nothing seems to make it work. does anyone have a clue of what's wrong?? (f.y.i, i've tried reflashing the rom couple of times and also flashing cm nightly, wiping the cache, wiping data/reset, but still no progress). if anyone has encountered this problem, or might have a solution, that would be great ! it's starting to irritate me..so any help would be much appreciated. thanks for stopping by.
Yeah try a better more stable rom

so i tried flashing a different rom (gingervillain 1.5) like you said..and it's still not working.....any other suggestions? should i unroot and root my phone again? would that cause any harm?
This has been happening occasionally on my G2 while running the stock deodexed ROM, and the only way I've known to fix it is to run "fix permissions" in CWM. I've also deleted the cache and dalvik cache as well, just to be safe, and these have fixed the problem for me. I'm not sure if it's related to the ROM or any of the apps I have installed, but I'm getting more & more concerned that it could be that my accelerometer slowly dying. Not sure.
I really hope that helps fix your problem.

[Q] Can a ROM kill the camera?

I had a perfectly working Galaxy Nexus running CM10.x, which I updated to a CM11 nightly. This worked great for a week or so and then the camera and gallery started FCing. After several resets, restores, newer/older nightly installs, nothing changed. Tried all possible combinations of new/old Gapps, but still no luck. I tried different ROMs - PA, stock 4.3 and some others, but nope. I even tried Ubuntu Touch and even that couldn't access the camera. This is when I was pretty convinced that the camera module itself must have died.
My questions:
What killed the camera? Is it possible that a bad ROM could have done it?
Is it possible to fix this via software?
I can try and get it repaired locally, but I just want to know if anything can be done at home.
Thanks.

A ROM wouldnt just kill the camera over time. It would have not worked right after the ROM was installed. So I doubt it was a ROM. I would do a full reset. Not just a normal factory reset but flash the factory image and see if it fixes it. If it doesn't then most likely it's a hardware issue.

I've used the phone for over a year without any issues with several kernels and ROMs before and the camera worked just fine.
Yes, I've done a complete clean up - I wiped the whole phone and memory (using the fastboot -w option) and installed different ROMs and even a different OS (Ubuntu Touch), but the camera issue persists.
I believe it's hardware issue, but I just wanted to know if anyone's faced a similar problem.

Yup. I believe that's the exact post I referred to when I did it.
It even lost root during this process (of course) and I had to do it again - something I hadn't done in almost two years.
Since it was a spare phone, there wasn't any useful data on it. I backed up a few pictures and completely wiped it clean. No luck.
I'll add that the issue is only with the camera. Some apps FC, some apps (such as Camera+) give a message saying it was unable to connect to the camera or something. I believe the Gallery also FCs because it uses the camera at some point. All other apps work perfectly fine.

Usually if the phone has any issues at all, that process fixes them. And if it doesn't, then there is usually something wrong with the hardware. I wouldn't think the problem was brought on by installing a ROM or kernel though.
I think it's related to the kernel that you're using
......
i think yes but if you change the rom it will work
some roms the camera has some bugs big bugs colors are broken and stuff

Camera error, can't connect to the camera

So after flashing MHC19J via Clean Core, I can no longer connect to use the camera. What's even weirder, is that I downgraded back to my previous ROM, and now the camera has the same issue. I have no idea how to fix this. I have uninstalled the camera app via system remover app and reinstalled it. Issue is still there. Tried clearing data and cache, still not working.
Any suggestions? I have never had this before.
I have the same problem, could you find any solution?
I have to same issue too... help?
Guys try to flash full stock rom using sdk and then write if problem still is

I'm having yhe same problem, and it's acting strange, I wass on stock N when camera didn't started, rooted installed custom rom, and it didn't start neither.
Reverted to stock MM, and didn't start, upgraded to stock N again and worked just fine, after rooted and installed custom rom again it worked perfectly, and moments later didn't started, Rebooted two times and worked, later it didn't started again.
Tried to change vendor, rebooted in safe mode, nothing worked, any clue what might be the problem?
SOLVED: flashed the vendor again after installeg rom and camera started working,
Thanks!
Hi, after a while, the problem reappeared.
Again i've flashed the vendor.img and camera worked just fine for a while.
If i reboot to safe mode camera works fine but one time the camera didn't start even in safe mode.
So i can't find a proper path for this problem.
I've recorded 2 logcats, - at the first one camera worked fine
- the second one camera didn't start

Where did you buy? My phone was repaired by LG by warranty after the infamous bootloop issue and now camera has errors sometimes.

I'v bought one on second hand, from a bootlooped device. For. Me, it worked, i'm not 100% sure it will work for you but i'd try it if i were you. If it doesn't work you can sell it after.

Camera's dead, Jim

I did the developer preview for Nougat and everything was fine and dandy throughout the whole thing on my Nexus 5x. I got the official 7.0 release and now my camera won't open. If it does open it's black, freezes, and causes my phone to restart. I've already wiped after the update and started completely fresh and it's still not working. Has anyone else come across this issue?
Uhh nevermind, I got it working. For anyone else that comes across this issue, wipe the cache partition by booting into recovery. I also wiped my device again as well. Booted up and now the camera is working again.

If you are unlocked, which I recommend if only for troubleshooting purposes, try reflashing the vendor.img and boot.img if this arises again.
