[Q] AtT NOte 2 unlocked, now using Tmobile, Can't upgrade firmware - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note II

MY sister called ATt to unlock her phone when she went abroad, they did. Now she no longer has ATT and is with tmobile. Using the Tmobile sim card, she can't seem to upgrade her OS using the firmware update option in settings. How can she go about upgrading? she currently has android 4.1.2 with the NOte 2?
also if i flash aokp on her phone, but she don't like it, then flash back the original 4.1.2 firmware, would i lose the unlock that ATT did for her and she can't use Tmobile anymore?

Unlock is permanent ok.
Ota updates come from AT&T servers, meaning you'll need to be on AT&T network.
Btw plenty of stock 4.4.2 Roms in the development section you can flash for her.
Aosp is to buggy and isn't official 4.4.2.

[Q] [Solved] Unable to unlock Note II (SGH-i317m)

Hello XDA and Happy New Year!
I have a rooted Note II sgh-i317m locked to Bell Mobility. I would like to use it with another carrier. I have asked one source for an unlock code, and verified that he received the correct IMEI for the phone, but he said he was unable to get one. I have tried "00000000" but that doesn't work.
I rooted it to try GalaxSim Unlock from the Play store. GalaxSim says it is incompatible with this device. When I click "show details" I get "undefined" for IMEI, Sim Lock status, Product code, Serial Number, and all the rest of the fields. (I believe the app is using the android SDK to query the device for these settings and getting nulls.)
Rooting was a piece of cake with Odin, but how do I unlock my phone?
HB
edited to add details:
Android 4.1.1
Build number JRO03C.I317MVLALJ2
My root method was from galaxynote2root.com; it apparently doesn't touch the firmware.
try this method?

Yes, this worked just fine! I am now happily using my Note 2 unlocked from Bell (AKA Hell) Mobility on Fido LTE.

rogers sgh-i317m
HELP! I have a note 2 from rogers, i recently tried to do the service mode unlock. (#*197328640#) followed the instructions but i was missing the option 4 nv data. found out later that it was 4.1.1 i had 4.1.2. So got impatient took it to the local cell unlocker fella. He ran into trouble with entering the unlock code then attempted a process that reversed what i did and entered the code, this seemed to work the unlock with the code was successful. Or so it seemed until i inserted my telus sim card then my $780 dollar phone that i just paid cash 2 days ago wont accept the sim or any other including rogers. I tried rooting and i put 4.1.1 back on this got me to the point where it will accept a rogers sim but data will only run edge and call out if i set it to gsm only in network settings this is the only way it will accept a rogers sim only
unlocked
me too , i can not unlock my note 2 canada sgh-í7m

No.
i know it a little late but if there are still people reading this today, well... this worked for me, and you need to be on 4.1.x variant of the note 2 i317/m rom.
I was initially on a 4.4.2 Koodo variant and downgraded it to a 4.1.1 Bell variant before i was able to successfully unlock the phone, since anything after 4.1.x that method is blocked/unavailable/patched. After i was done, my Videotron sim card was accepted and LTE is working flawlessly. Flashing Bells 4.4.2 rom posed no issues and phone was back to normal. Software updates were being checked normally (even tho no official lollipop will ever come from Samsung... but just saying) and nothing was acting out of the ordinary.
only problem is (but shouldn't really be anymore) that your KNOX counter will trip and will stay stuck at 1 due to some hardware thingy being physically changed. This is because of the Security enhancements being violated when downgrading from 4.4.x to 4.1.x. (kitkat to jellybean is a big nono to the SE, but the other way around or kitkat to kitkat is fine)
if any issues or questing feel free to ask GL

unlocked phone get OTA update on different network

Cant seem to get a concrete answer anywhere. I Sim unlocked my tmobile note 3 and I'm currently running it on the ATT network. Will I get OTA updates from Tmobile still or just nothing at all?

I
If you're running a completely stock rom (no root or recovery) you will get updates still.

If you are rooted, your phone will attempt to download OTA updates but most likely they wont install and you will lose root. This happens on the S3 and S4... so N3 shoulnt be any different.

If your phone is NOT rooted and if you have the stock firmware in the phone then:
You will only get updates for AT&T if you have an AT&T activated sim card in the phone.
Without a activated Tmobile sim card in the phonoe you will never get tmobile updates.
Good luck!
Thats what I figured, if it is Tmobile, you will get the ATT update, and that might be an issue. I am watching the forums for any post of an OTA, then will swap cards back.
There is no way that tmo phone will accept att ota even with active att sim on it. Ota checks phone model and att ota wont show at all on tmobile phone. You can always download latest update from samsung website

So is the simple solution just to use Samsung Kies? I bought a 2nd hand Galaxy S5 and it had been on O2 but unlocked. I'm now using it on EE (I'm in the UK). Will Kies let me do an in place upgrade without having to wipe?
so would my unlocked Verizon Google Pixel phone get the Android 9.0 PIE update when i'm using a MetroPCS sim ?

Can't update AT&t NOTE 2 while using tmobile sim card?

MY sister has an att galaxy note 2. She've since left att and switched to tmobile. She also got att to unlock the phone before she left so she could use her tmobile sim card.
Now i'm trying to update her note 2 from 4.1.2 to 4.3 or 4.4 and it says there are no servers or updates avaiable. So you can't update an att note 2 while on tmobile network?
Also if i'm somehow able to do it, would updating her phone lock her phone again and prevent her from using her tmobile sim card?
Would flashing any roms also lock the phone and prevent using tmobile sim?

[Q] Sim unlock on custom ROM. Tmobile support not being helpful.

So I'm currently in Europe and I will be here for 2 more months and I would like to unlock my phone because $4.19 a minute is ridiculous. However tmobile support is being, let's say very smart. The first representative said "just visit you're nearest tmobile store and we'll help you out there." After I had already told them I was in a country without tmobile. So I was wondering if there was any way to do this for free? I really don't want to have to spend any more money right now. I'm currently running liquidsmooth lollipops latest build. And I really don't want to have to revert to stock because I currently have Internet speeds of 85kb/s and that would take ages to download and then reset up my phone. All help is greatly appreciated.
You cannot. Need TouchWiz

Which version should i downgrade to, and could you give me a like to a method of unlocking it?
Before flashing any TW ROMs via Odin, confirm the bootloader and modem on your phone.
I'm not sure but if the T999 is like the i747 (ATT s3 version), you cannot downgrade the bootloader from 4.3 to a lower version. Doing so may brick the phone.
If you are on a 4.1.1 or 4.1.2 bootloader, you should be able to downgrade to stock 4.1.1 and you may be able to unlock for free using this method: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2014982
If you cannot downgrade to stock 4.1.1, you'll need to buy an unlock code and enter it using a stock Samsung dialler.

SGH-T889 SIM unlock issue

I've got T-Mobile SGH-T889 with Android 4.3, everything is fine but it's SIM locked. I checked ebay for codes and they are not widely available like the ones for this phone's twin brother SGH-I317 for just $1...
Oh, well since I have T-Mobile as a carrier I put in a request, they emailed me free 8-digit code in a couple of days.
Guess what - the phone does not take the code (yes I popped in the AT&T SIM card), says code is wrong, IMEI match, I've done it few times before - I'm puzzled...
Based on what I read here T-Mobile has a wrong calculator just for SGH-T889 model, since in the past they unlocked my Note 3 and Note 4 no problem.
I guess I can downgrade it to 4.1.1 (tripping the knox) and do it through the hidden menu but Sammobile link does not work reports "User not logged in" error.
Also what is the latest official Android version for SGH-T889? I've seen 4.3, do not see 4.4.2 like on AT&T one.
The T-mobile Note 2 is stuck at 4.3 while the sgh-i317 and sgh-i317m at KK.
You need to create a user account on sammobile.com in order to download firmware. It's free but the download is not that fast for non-paying members.

Ok I never knew 4.4.2 was not available on T-Mobile on another side, it would have bugged me with the update like T-Mobile normally does.
Yes I have an account MK7 link does not work this is what I have in the phone, I don't know how different OH4 is...
Is it the same Knox as in AT&T one if you go down from 4.3 to 4.1.1?
I still wonder why T-Mobile sends out the wrong unlock codes.
Is the phone running a stock 4.3 ROM?
You cannot fully downgrade from 4.3 to 4.1.1 because the bootloader cannot be dowgraded. The stock 4.1. ROM from sammobile.com may include the 4.1.1 bootloader.
I'm not sure if T-mobile calculates the code or whether the code is stored in an imei/unlock code database.
Yes stock 4.3, LJ2 ROM from SM has modem bin only.
Hm... AT&T SGH-I317 downloads from 4.3 to stock 4.1.1 via Odin no problem, I did it a few times for SIM unlock only trips the Knox...
The most annoying part is that the official unlock code does not work, spoke to T-Mobile again they are clueless
The ROM on sammobile.com doesn't include a bootloader which is why a stock 317 can downgraded. You wind up with a stock 4.1.1 ROM on a 4.3 or newer bootloader.
And there will be no hidden menu? Have you seen this bootloader anywhere?
If I recall correctly on my i317m, the hidden menu will be there but WiFi and calls won't work. It may be the same for the T-Mobile note 2.
Were you able to unlock the phone by downgrading to 4.1.1?
Yes it worked like charm.
