[Q] Is adding SIM support possible? - Nexus 7 (2013) Q&A

Hi everyone!
Been a member for a while, but this is only my second post, so please go easy on me!
I have an Asus Nexus 7 2013 16gb, (Asus-1B16). I have seen some Nexus 7's that take a SIM chip. Is it possible to change the logic board on my device to a board that supports SIM's? If so, what logic board should I look for?
Thanks

You would need a new back cover too, it fact I think you would need to change so much just buying a new one woulkd be cheaper and easier

I am not planning to keep changing the SIM chip. I was thinking that I could just pop the back cover, install the SIM and then just close it. Having said that, parts are cheap on eBay.

Why not just buy a Nexus 7 LTE instead? Google already did it for you and you'll double your storage space.

Shut up and take my money! If only that case existed, it would make me buy a Galaxy Nexus right now. 16gb doesnt hold enough music
The same idea for Nexus4

It's a great idea for all the nexus devices and especially the brand new Nexus4:
Simple
Cheap
useful (protective case + expendable memory).
It should also provide a mecanism to offer a microUSB port left for letting us charge the phone even if it is plugged to the case.
Any news?!

Find out a small company doing such a thing for the iphone but seems too massive (coz of the expendable battery on it).
Link
Should be ok for a Nexus device with only expandable memory. The sucess for that hypothetic product would be undeniable regarding ppl anger about the lack of sd slot on those devices.

[Q] considering purchase

I have only had my first gen Nexus 7 for a month and am considering selling it (to my sister) so I can purchase the new one.
(of all the bad timing, news of the new one started the day after I unboxed mine)!
Just a few questions that may help me decide.
1 - has anyone tried the new nexus with the first gen official dock (that uses the contacts)
2 - same question for a Poetic Slimline Portfolio Case for Google Nexus 7
sorry not able to post links to the above components as my status in the forum is too new.
I ordered the above 2 components about the same day they started talking about the new nexus (bad timing for me)
it would likely be a deal breaker for me if I have to get rid of these before they even showed up at my door!
Thanks for any helpful info

I dont know about those accessories but I would assume your sister would buy them for her Nexus. If you are getting enough for it that you feel like the upgrade is worth it, then go ahead! You won't be disappointed, this thing destroys it's predecessor!
still considering.....

The new Nexus 7 does not have the 4 pogo pins, so I don't think your accessories would work. Also the form factor is different, so I don't think the case will fit.
thanks

that too bad, the dock was a nice feature with version 1 of the nexus 7. Of course more of a head scratcher with me is "no micro-sd slot" even my wifes cheap ass Asus MeMo has a micro-sd slot.

Google does not put SD slots on any device. To be honest SD card slots are going the way of the Floppy Drive. Sure it's mildly annoying.. AT FIRST... but after having devices without them for well over a year now, I don't miss them at all. You adapt. Trust me.

I made sure my present nexus was the 32 gig version. I think that in the States you can do without the sd slot better because you have access to streaming services such as Spotify, unfortunately most of those services aren't available to us Canucks so we have to keep our music on our devices. I have found that 32 gigs is LOTS of storage for my tunes.

[Q] What model do i have?

Hi all,
I was wondering if someone could clear up an query i have.
I have a note 8.0 3g with a broken screen, ordered a replacement screen for a n5100 (i thought this was the model i had).
The screen has not arrived yet but some new housing i ordered has arrived also for the n5100.
Problem = the housing for n5100 does not fit as it has a micro usb where as mine has a large 30pin connector.
So my question is what model do i have?
Currently its in bits so can't really plug it in to Kies.
Thanks in advance.
I could be wrong but im pretty sure the note 8.0 only has a micro usb port :/.
Does your tablet have a model number on the back

Thanks for the reply. Just to throw another spanner in the works I have received my screen but it doesnt fit into the bezel. The screen works and I have checked the model in about device and its a gt-n5100. What the im so confused now, one thing I did notice is that after a factory reset the default language was danish or checz.
So just to confirm I also checked all visible markings on the board and back plate and all state gt-n5100!
Help!

You have a bootleg tablet. Another member a while back posted pictures of 2 note 8s that he had. One like you described, and a legit one. Sounds like yours may be a counterfeit or some very early batch they ran before they changed to a micro USB. I have a feeling you will have a hard time getting parts. What happens when you enter the serial number on Samsung's support site? Did you buy it from a reputable dealer?

Ok so after some very extensive research and contacting some part remanufacture s in china they have clarified I have an early demo/exhibition model and they are infact the same as the current model bar the housing, back, speakers and charge port. So I shall order more parts and transplant them.
Ill keep you all posted on my progress and thank you for the replys

What to check for when buying nexus 5x?

i'm going to go to the smartphone market to buy a nexus 5x. First, is it an upgrade on M9?. The deal I'm getting is my M9 plus 70$ for a brand new n5x 16 gigs. Is it a good deal?
What to look out for in the phone? I'll unbox the device in front of him and may ask for another box packed phone in case there is a fault with the device. What should I check?

Great phone. But 16gigs is not a lot of space. No sd card expansion.
16 GB can get you by only if you are very minimal on your apps and picture/video taking. Even so, that's pushing it. Google Photos "free up device storage" option does help if you do take a decent amount of pictures/videos.

Make sure they have properly signed out of their Google account prior to selling. The 5X has Factory Reset Protection and will require the last Google account and password if they did not sign out prior to the factory reset.

Replacing Galaxy S4 Mini (GT-i9195) MainBoard?

Hi everybody.
My Galaxy S4 Mini suddenly went off when using it while it was being charged. I took it to a repair store and they said the the phone's Main Board/Circuit Board/Logic Board is done and it only can be fixed by replacing.
I have found an old S4 Mini that I can buy on a website, but the problem is that the phone is a 32 GB version and my phone is 8 GB version. Will it be a problem if I replace it? Will the other parts of the phone adopt to the new Main Board?
I have also found another website where you can order phone Main Boards from China, but I'm not sure what to do.
Any suggestion would be helpful.
Thanks for your time and response(s) in advance.

hard to know as they have probably changed more than just the memory chip, I don't know though. I know that replacement power boards do not always work with newer motherboards, so it's a bit risky. But this sort of thing has worked on other phones, there was an article a couple of weeks ago here on XDA where someone changed the memory 32GB chip for a 64GB in a Nexus (?), but that's a different scenario,
What is wrong with the 32GB phone? If it's just a cracked screen or something you probably have a better chance of putting your screen in that phone and using that, but it's still a slight risk.
Sourcing from China can be risky, but I've bought stuff from there before and it's arrived as promised, mostly via ebay though, buying from Hong Kong is much safer I think.

Thanks for your reply.
The 32 GB phone as you precisely guessed has a cracked screen. I hadn't actually thought of swapping the screen. It could even be a better solution :good: (will ask the repair shop first, whether they will do it).

AFAIK there's no 32 Gb version, only 8/16Gb. Maybe the seller is including the microSD memory in the overall capacity?
I've replaced 5 or 6 mainboards of the i9195, the first two were bought in China (Aliexpress), and they worked ok. the rest of the mainboards were bought to a local seller in eBay with a minimal price difference. Here's a good guide to access the mainboard, it was very easy to do (you only need to follow the 3 first steps): https://es.ifixit.com/Guide/Samsung+Galaxy+S4+Mini+Home+Button+Flex+Cable+Assembly+Replacement/47582
Keep in mind that almost all the mainboards are second handed, so there's a chance to have Knox tripped or data inside them. I've had all of them with Knox 0x0, but if you really need it then you must ask the seller before you buy it.

It looks like as you mentioned, there aren't any 32 GB version. I assume that's a misunderstanding.
So, taking your experiences, I assume that changing motherboards should fix the phone and it wouldn't be a problem.
Thanks for your reply. I appreciate your time.
Hi guys! My friend has a i9190 3g model, lafleur edition, but she wants to use LTE. I9195 LTE model doesn't come in lafleur colors, so I thought to buy i9195 mother board and just put it to 9190's frame. Can anybody tell me is it possible or not?

Hi.
In another post someone has asked a question which is somehow similar to your question (you can check it out here Will i9190 case and screen protector fit i9192?).
If I'm not wrong, the answers suggest that the internal hardware are compatible with other models and/or they fit in other model's case, but you may want to send a reply there and ask your specific question.
