Hello Everyone,
I was wondering if anyone has been able to screen mirror via miracast their Tab S to a non Samsung TV without using a dongle (to a miracast capable TV)?
Thank you for taking the time to look and especially if you can help!
-T
Yes,
I was able to connect my Tab S 10.5, 32GB version to a Sony KDL-65W850A television without any dongles, or problems at all.

You bet! All I had to do was turn on the screen mirroring by pushing the "screen mirroring button" located in the drop down menu(the toolbar that shows up when you pull down the notification bar, sorry, I can't think of the actual name of the menu right now). Then go to your TV and go to the input menu and scroll over to the right and you should see an input for a wireless device, or something to that effect. Click on that input and it will start searching for your tablet. The first time I had to restart the scan from my tablet because the television didn't find it. Almost instantly after restarting the scan from my tablet, the television found it. I'm not by my TV now, but if I remember correctly, the very first time you try to connect a new device, the TV comes up with a list of devices and you have to click on the tablet. After the TV has successfully connected with a device, all that needs to be done next time is simply turn your mirroring on, and click the wireless device input on your TV, and it will connect without having to choose your device from a list. That's all I had to do. Good luck!
Sounds good! I have a w905, so hopefully it works as well as for you. Thanks for the help!

Just got my Samsung Tab S 10.5 last night. Have a Sony KDL-55HX800 tv.
I followed your instructions above, but my tv is not detected by the tablet.
Both the tablet and tv are on the same network.
Is my tv too old?
Any help, greatly appreciated.

Hello,
I did a little checking around for you. From what I read on Sony's website, it looks to me like a USB adapter is required for a wireless network connection. The adapter is a UWA-BR100, but after doing some research on the adapter, it looks like it won't work for miracast. Now, I couldn't find it on Sony's website, but several people made the comment that the adapter specifications state that it does support miracast, although nobody seemed to have been able to get it working. It may be possible to wirelessly stream through the adapter, but I wasn't able to find anybody that had been successful. Sorry I couldn't be more help.

Thanks.
I have a Chromecast, and am hoping the Tab S gets the update for screen mirroring that way. Just thought I might be able to do it before the update.
Hi
Does anyone know a way to keep WiFi from switching ON?
Iv'e tried the settings.apk to turn it OFF but it seems to reactivate itself. Or another app is switching on.
Trying to find an app that will do it, but no luck so far.
This would be simple on a regular android device.
I prefer a wired connection and would like the WiFi to stay OFF.
Thanks

Just go to Settings/System/Network & press the 3 _ line button for any Wifi Network you had saved. Now it should not be able to connect to any Wifi. And it shouldn't try as long as you have an Ethernet cable plugged in...

I was able to get it to forget my network as you suggested.
The FireTV seems to have the WiFi signal turned on even when connected through ethernet.
I've tried a few WiFi manager apps to disable WiFi completely.
My WiFi signal detector always shows a signal from the AFTV, except when it's unplugged.

Yeh - I think I have the same issue. My connection showing wired, I ran a speedtest and getting 45mb (I have 120mb braodband).
The Remote App also works which tells me I am still wireless.
Disable wlan module ? ?
I tried to disable the wifi module (wlan.ko in /system/lib/modules) by renaming it, but it just created a new copy.
There must be an app to freeze or disable somewhere.

Wonder if one only uses the Wired option since the first Setup will it make a difference.. Doubt it.. But wonder... Maybe it has to do with the new FW that includes the Remote app support...

The remote is bluetooth.
just a thought, but maybe an app like d-vasive would do the trick... just disable wifi through the app (and leave bluetooth on for the remote)

The Amazon Fire TV stick broadcasts its own wireless signal even while connected via ethernet.
Peer-reviewed scientific papers on health effects of wireless radiation are abundant. Here's 1: ehtrust.org/science/research-on-wireless-health-effects/
Kids are way more vulnerable because they absorb way more radiation. Pisses me off that I can't see a way to disable it. IoT devices should come with a way to disable broadcasting a signal and default set to 'off'!
Does anyone know of a way to disable the function that makes the Amazon Fire TV stick broadcast it's own IoT wireless signal?
Any help would be much appreciated! thanks
I’m looking for a way to disable it as well. Thanks for any info.
I would also like to disable wifi on the firestick as well. I do not want wifi signals coming from the firestick trying to find a wifi connection if it is plugged in via ethernet. I am trying to avoid EMFs exposure.
I, too, would like to know how to completely turn off the Fire TV stick wi-fi signal.
The remote is WFD (Wifi Direct, not Bluetooth) and there is no way to turn this off. Wifi for data is off when it is plugged in as wired.
I too have got rid of EVERYTHING wifi or bluetooth in my home.
I was hoping i could disable bluetooth and wifi completely on the fire tv stick 4k.
I am using my infrared TV remote to control it through CEC.
I connected to it remotely via ADB and executed these two commands
adb shell settings put global bluetooth_on 0
adb shell svc wifi disable
Unfortunately although the commands seemed to work, the fire tv is still emitting huge amounts of EMF.
Any clever people here have any ideas to disable Bluetooth and wifi completely ?
Thanks in advance
For anyone who is interested I found a way to disable WiFi and Bluetooth and it is VERY simple.
WARNING :
Disabling Bluetooth will make your Firestick remote unusable until Bluetooth is turned back on.
Restarting the firestick used to re-enable bluetooth but this is no longer the case, so be careful and,
Make sure you have another way to navigate before turning Bluetooth off. ( CEC or FireTV app )
Enable Apps from Unknown Sources on an Amazon Fire TV or Fire TV Stick
From the Fire TV or Fire TV Stick's home screen, scroll to “Settings”.
Next, scroll to the right and select “My Fire TV”. ( ...
Next, scroll down and select “Developer options”.
Then select “Apps from Unknown Sources” to turn the option to “ON”.
THEN
Search for and install "downloader" on the fire stick
Use downloader to download and install an app called "Smart Quick Settings" available here.
I used version 2.71 but the apk is available other places too, aswell as other versions.
You could alternatively use a normal web browser on the firestick instead of downloader to download the smart quick settings app but you will then need a file explorer app to find your downloaded apk and install it.
Make sure you can control the firestick with CEC or other means, a guide for enabling CEC is below.
How to Enable HDMI-CEC on Your Fire TV
There are days when we want to watch something on our Fire TV but it takes minutes before the screen fills up because your TV is on the wrong HDMI input or the TV took a long time to boot up. You can avoid this annoying wait time by enabling HDMI-CEC on your Fire TV. HDMI-CEC is a code that...
forums.tomsguide.com
Open Smart quick settings and toggle wifi and bluetooth off ( when navigating inside Smart quick settings you do not see anything moving so count how many clicks you have done, I think its 3 down clicks to get to the bluetooth off toggle )
And that's it all done... Simple
I have confirmed using my RF meter that it is no longer transmitting anything at all bluetooth or wifi.
Hope this helps someone
Turning off the Bluetooth on your Fire TV and keeps turning on that you gets hijacked on Bluetooth is called Bluejacking.
To disable the Bluetooth completely that you don't needed. You have to disable the Bluetooth Share app on it.

One thing to watch though is if you restart the fire stick or shut it down then bluetooth automatically turns itself back on, as long as you remember to just go back into "smart quick settings" and turn it back off then its no problem but personally i set my tv CEC settings to not send shut down or wake up commands so when i turn my tv off the fire stick just stays on all the time.
Only if it needs a restart for updates does it get restarted.
Hope this helps someone

Hi, I have used the above method to try and turn off wifi on firestick and everything has gone well with "smart quick settings" now on the firestick as an app but when I get onto the page with all the different settings on it it wont let me scroll down to wifi settings to turn it off(it wont let me scroll down to any of the settings on page 1 or 2). Would appreciate any help on how to overcome this or if anyone has found a different method to disable wifi/Bluetooth settings on the Kindle firestick,
Thanks Barney

It doesn't look like anything is moving but it actually is.
For bluetooth I think i just press the down button 3 times ( just count how far down it is) and the click select on the remote and you will see it toggle the setting on and off.
to turn it back on you have to press right after going down to the option, again you don't see anything move but it does move.

Thanks for the reply,
Tried it but when we click on it to try and alter Bluetooth it automatically switches
from Smart Quick settings to the firestick settings page and when we try to alter Wifi settings it sends us to the firestick network page which shows we are connected to Ethernet, when we press select on this it asks for an IP address-unsure which IP address to put in.
You can download our free trial apk and install it to fire TV, all of sudden, your fire TV is also a Chromecast receiver.
Please refer to this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/har...p-youmap-chromecast-receiver-android-t3161851
Download this apk: [apk, updated on Jan-17-2016, now version 1.4.0, it will expire on Feb-29-2016]
http://www.youmap.com/YouMapCastReceiver.apk
Instructions: (good for fire TV box and stick)
(1) Enable ADB and USB Debugging - go to Amazon TV, Settings, System, Developer Options > tun on ADB Debugging and USB Debugging
(2) Now, you need to find the ip address of the FireTV device, System > About
(3) Now from another PC, you can use adb command to install the YouMap Chromecast apk.
adb connect your-ip-address-of-firetv
adb install YouMapCastReceiver.apk
(4) reboot fire TV, and it's ready for casting.
Have fun !
Haven't had a chance to try but looking forward to it. I'll edit the post when I do...
Notice no option to buy full version yet. Is there an estimate on what it'll cost?
Update--Sorry. Got some questions right from the start. Usb debugging ejects the usb drive and makes it unusable. Lots of people use an external drive on aftv so this might be a problem.
It works for sure, however, I'm not sure if I'm utilizing it correctly? I was hoping it would mirror my display, but it doesn't appear to, not even if i enable mirroring on aftv. Maybe it's not suppose to...
But, so far the only thing I've gotten it to do is to cast youtube and we can already do that without losing usb functionality. Please correct me if I'm missing something. Thanks.
The USB thing is only one time for installation. Once installed, you don't need USB connection at all. Our app will auto start every time when you boot fire TV.
It can mirror screens, install Google Chromecast app on your device that you want to mirror. Click Screen Mirroring from left side, that's it.

Awesome! Works great BTW. Is it possible to set it up on multiple aftvs and AFTV stick?
yes, you can install it on multiple receivers, you may need to name them differently to differientiate them. Our app has a setting page to specify the name. However, on Fire TV, the setting page won't show up, we are working on a amazon version, that should install directly from Amazon store. it will take some time for that release though.
You can access the Youmap settings page on a Fire TV. From the home page scroll down to Settings, then goto Applications and down to Manage Installed Applications. Then scroll down to Youmap Chromecast Receiver, select it and then select Launch application. That will take you to the Youmap settings.
Ahh, Thanks, darren1. I didn't know that
Its a restriction on all sideloaded apps. they can't be launched straight from the Fire TV home screen. When you release an official version through their appstore anyone purchasing it would be able to launch it from the homescreen.
Well I like it. The chromecast app should be a welcome edition too except I need to reinstall play services. Forgot I had uninstalled it to fix play store crash on launch. But your app is working well. Its more reliable than normal YouTube casting because it doesn't care whether my AFTV is Ethernet, 2.4ghz or 5ghz. Normally I can't connect my phone if its on 2.4 while my AFTV is on 5. Not a lot of time testing but so far lag seems minimal.
It works on my firetv connected straight to router , but it doesnt work on my aftv stick ,complains about port 8008 and uses 8010, but chromecast on my sg3 still doesnt detect it and its on the same network
Sometimes, you need to use google chromecast app Screen Mirroring to search for the device, once it finds the device, it will work. Also try to reboot your router, and on your sending device, try to turn off/on the wifi.
Got play services reinstalled and very impressed with performance and ease of use once its set.
I did have one issue but not sure its related. Both times I used chromecast, my AFTV switched from 5 GHz to 2.4ghz. Doesn't usually drop the signal like that. And it wouldn't normally be an issue but I use mysql and that sometimes won't work properly if all my devices aren't hardwired or on 5ghz.
Do you think this is related to chromecast or should I troubleshoot elsewhere? I know normal screen casting doesn't work for me if the devices are on different frequencies. This one does but wonder if the reason for that is its somehow able to auto change it.
Our youmap receiver does NOT require google play services.
About wifi 2.4 vs 5GHz band, our app does not change that, it uses whatever wifi is currently on. Ethernet is usually much more stable, though.
This works great on my firestick and firetv! Before, I had a few apps that were cast ready (I originally had chromecast) that showed the cast icon. I could no longer cast once I got aftv, the icons didn't even show up in my apps anymore even though I knew it was available. I just watched on my phone only. I dl'd this app to my phone and sideloaded it to my ftvs and ftv via another useful app via my phone. I gave each device a separate name and rebooted. (Oh, and ticked the box to start up with device) Now, my cast icons show up in my favorite apps, and I am able to cast! I am Soo freaken happy!! It also shows both my cast channels.
Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
I noticed in the other thread that it said the app listed would expire today. Since I don't have the play store installed how can I go about getting the paid version or at least continue to use this version?
Will post an update to keep this trial going
The apk has been updated, now expires on August-31-2015.
it fixed the chrome tab mirroring issue, and improved the device discovery. Please give it a try.
Now it works great on the firetv. But tell me please are you planning to bring the app to amazons appstore or how will your licencing work, when you can't install googles playstore on a non-rooted device?
right, the licensing issue is the last thing we are working on for Amazon store. We are checking if Amazon has similar apis as google play app licensing, still no definite answer yet. If Amazon does not provide such api, we can do it ourselves by entering a license key, not the best way.

For some reason we don't understand yet, chrome tab mirroring works only on fire TV box, not on fire TV stick, all other features are same on both.
hello everyone as u see in the name of the topic
i live in CANADA and i bought this AFTV from US in december it has been working great till yesterday night when the remote went off and can't use it all and the box now is useless
is there a way to fix this cuz i can't download the amazon app in my tab or iphone since in canada is geographically restricted so now am stuck with it and more than that i used my keyboard trying to manually see what is happening and the remote was no longer recognized (batteries changed like 3 times with new ones ) and after that i pushed the usb debugging without reading the warning (dumb as i am) am beating my self to death now for that stupid move
so my first question is it possible to turn the usb debugging off thru the PC or tablet so i can use back the keybord
second is it possible that someone give me the amazon app for android tab samsung galaxy tab 3
and third is it possible that the problem comes from the bluetooth antenna of the fire tv cuz i tried to find the fire tv on my tab via BT it doesn't see it
After battery change I had to hold HOME button for 5 seconds to re-pair my remote.
As for your other questions, I have no idea.

Strange I had this problem and tried batteries contacts ( seemed ok but cleaned anyway) on off on then unpairing then it didn't appear at all.
Then tried to pair my stick remote which showed as unsuccessful tried main remote again and all fine again
I may be wrong but I was experiencing the same problem. but this was with a ftv2ndgen. supposedly, the remote now uses wifi now instead of bluetooth. I had a wireless device next to fire tv (rasperry pi, tablet, phone, wifi enable stereo equip, wifi tv etc) I moved them all away or disabled them then brought them back one at a time. it came back. I then put the ftvbox under the tv instead of behind. I now keep wifi stuff away from it that can be kept away, but not all things. just minimize wifi near it. and clear line of site between the remote and ftvbox. has not happened again. I remember changing my batteries in like three times and everytime a checked the old batteries they were fine.
Hello Developers!
I got a problem and I hope some of you can help me (if not you then i don't know who). I have Fire TV stick 2 gen for about 2 years and recently my remote stopped working. I installed amazon TV app on my cellphone to get back control of the stick. Then I tried everything I was able to find on the Internet (new batteries, hold home button for 5-10-20 sec, find new BT device from the settings menu, etc.) to bring back to life original remote but there was no luck. So I decided to reset the stick back to factory settings (bad idea). As you can guess now I have the stick that is asking me to pair my (probably dead) remote with it (!).
I don't have friends with amazon TVs and I don't want to pay $20 for the new remote ( when the new stick with remote is like $30 ) I'm ok to use the app.
So I have three questions for you guys:
1) Is there any way to skip the first step (initiation of remote)? Maybe I can find some kind of firmware that I can change a little bit
(put my wifi settings and tell to skip 1st step) and flash it into my stick? IDK...
2) As I understand the original remote works on BT not on WIFI so Is there any app that uses BT and can be recognized as an amazon tv remote on that 1st step. Two apps I've tried (amazon tv app and CetusPlay) use WIFI.
3) Is there any way to check if my remote still live or completely dead? (Again I have no friends with amazon TVs)
Thanks for any input!
No ideas guys? Any?
I think you actually need a remote for first time boot :/ I don't think there is any app out there that emulates the remote, I could be wrong but have you tried this?

I have exactly the same issue. I don't know if my remote is working or not.
I managed to connect a usb keyboard and stupidly reset the thing to defaults - disabling developer mode in the process.
Now I have a firestick that keeps asking me to "pair the remote..."
Is there any way to enable adb ?
in this thread.. ( https://forum.xda-developers.com/fire-tv/development/unlock-fire-tv-stick-2nd-gen-tank-t3907002 ) I remember reading about shorting a pin inside the unit to ground, would this allow adb access?

I want to say I'm fairly certain I was able to skip the pairing with a USB keyboard. Although I don't remember what key I pressed.
My remote stopped too. I stretched out the springs and reinstalled the batteries. Works great now.
Did you have any luck solving this Bartyman?
with a usb keyboard i was able to use play button to bypass
I reset my device using TWRP, and cannot get pass the "pair remote" screen! Help!? Would buying a otg cable and using a usb keyboard help? or is that a waste of money?

buying a OTG is very useful, almost any keyboard/mouse will work. makes TWRP easier also. holding down the home button for about 10 seconds has worked for me when trying to pair the remote. I dont know if you can do anything to get by it with CEC using the TV remote.
