[Q] Screen Mirroring. - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note 4

I've got a question with the native Screen Mirroring feature. On my Note PRO it just works. I connect to all my devices painlessly. Picked up the Note 4 last week and I have been unsuccessful in connecting it to -any- of my devices. I always get the message that it failed, and on the device it shows "connecting" but eventually times out.
I can use AllCast and Chromecast, no problem...Just unable to mirror my screen!
Anyone else having this issue?

Cast Screen.
Chromecast app has the Note 4 enabled for Cast Screen.
Just open the app and the option should be on the left menu.

Which is fine if a Chromecast is available, but is there a solution regarding the native mirroring feature found on the device? Say I'm at work and need to connect to a projector using screen mirroring and the projector doesn't have an input for a Chromecast. Maybe at my friend's house and trying to connect to his bluray... See what I mean?
I only had problems on the Pro after rooting (until a fixed kernel was released). It seems strange that a factory stock device would have the same problem. I have done a factory reset, but the issue persists.

I've used the native mirroring with a fire TV stick without any issues.

[Q] Miracast - Who has it working?

I have the fire stick, and can't get miracast to work. For those of you that do have it working, can you share your setup?
Devices I've tried:
Moto G with Lollipop
Surface Pro 3
HP Stream 7
Nokia Lumia 1520
For me it just sits on the waiting screen, sometimes my device name shows up saying mirroring will start soon but then it eventually times out and goes back to the settings screen.

I haven't been able to get Miracast on my Fire TV Stick to connect to me Windows 8.1 laptop.
Yes, I've gone to settings->display & sounds->enable display mirroring.
The first time I tried it on the laptop, it showed up in my devices (as a cell phone, which is strange), but when I "projected the screen", nothing ever showed up on the screen and it changed my laptop's resolution. I deleted it from devices and tried again and I can't get it to connect now. It just said said display mirroring is starting soon on the fire tv stick and just times out on the laptop.
On my LG G3, it didn't work last night, but when I tried it again just now, it worked.
Should the Fire TV Stick be able to Miracast with my laptop? My WLAN card does not support 5GHz. Is that the problem? The Fire TV Stick and LG G3 are connected via 5GHz, the laptop is connected to the same router via 2.4GHz.
I also can't get it to work with either my Lenovo X1 Carbon or, Samsung Series 7 tablet (Win 8.1 on both, miracast on the first, Intel WIDI on the second), the firetv is detected but it just won't connect. It worked with my Moto X, so I'm assuming it might just be working with android devices at this point which is a damn shame since this was one of the main selling points of the Fire TV stick for me.
Got it working on my Fire Stick and Nexus 5 running on custom kitkat rom. Had no luck on the first few try, my phone can see my fire stick and when it said it's connecting, the fire tv stick also said it's "preparing" to connect to my android device with my device name on the screen, but it would just disconnect without doing anything and go back to the setting screen after a few seconds.
Then i tried to turn off and turn on my wifi on my phone, tried again, fire tv now put the tv screen into a black & blank screen, but nothing more, it would disconnect again after a few seconds later. Tried a few times later on, same result, and no luck.
Again, i turn off my wifi on my phone and tried again and it now connected wonderfully! Tried youtube video on my phone and it's watchable on the tv, i'm going to try out a local video tomorrow and see how does it perform, so far i'm happy with browsing my photo in my phone alone without lags i found unacceptable on chromecast (but to be fair, it's not build for direct mirroring a device)
I have no luck in setting it up with my win 8.1 DELL e6540 laptop yet, i'm not sure if it even support miracast, would look into that also tomorrow. Right now i'm just happy it works on my phone and the quality is definitely acceptable.:good:
Hope it helps someone to setup your miracast!

3 of the 4 devices you try to cast are Windows, which you will expect problems since this is an Android system. The Moto G might have to deal with Lollipop and Google locking down Miracast for Chromecast only. I have a Nexus 7 and Nexus 9 on Lollipop and both can't cast to Amazon Fire TV. However, my Oneplus One and Galaxy Tab Pro 12.2 running CM11 can cast both to Chromecast and Fire TV/Fire Stick. I think this is due to some kind of ROM blocking. Just wait till somebody find a way around it. Most devs are busy porting Lollipop to old Android devices.

That's probably the case, I just thought being Miracast certified meant it was actually supposed to work.
I've both a Note 3 and a LG G3 but can't miracast to my fire tv device from either. The phones can seethe fire tv and their name appears briefly on screen but then it simply fails. Everything is unrooted.

no luck on my nexus 5 with lollipop. stays on the connecting screen and then just stops trying to connect.
Works for about a minute and then stops
Stock Nexus 5 running Lollipop. Activated casting on the Fire Stick, and then on the N5. It seems like I had to get off of the cast screen on the N5 before it would start casting. I simply went back to the home screen. Tried to cast a you tube video which worked for a minute or so but then the TV screen went blank. Eventually the Fire Stick said the connection was dropped.
From what I've seen, it looks as though Google silently dropped Miracast support in Lollipop. The option to cast your screen from the OS appears to only work with the chromecast protocol now. They also broke car mode... Again. ?
I have it sort of working with Moto X KitKat - I can mirror the phone, but if I try to stream a Google Play movie it stutters and hangs. I could be my wifi signal - I have not tried it elsewhere in the house, but that is my next step.

I have the same symptoms - my LG G2 running Cyanogenmod 11 (4.4.4) can usually mirror fine to my Fire TV Stick, but sometimes it can't connect - a power cycle on the Fire Stick makes it work again.
However, my Windows 8.1 Pro x64 Surface Pro (1) can't establish a connection. After pressing the Add Wireless Display button, the Fire Stick is detected as a "Cell Phone." (That's probably indicative of the problem?) Then, attempting to connect to the FTVS results in the stick saying "a connection will start soon to "MYSURFACEPRO" for a few seconds, then the Fire TV Stick dumps back out to the Settings menu. Windows waits for a minute or so and eventually gives an error message.
I ran Windows Update and rebooted, but had same non-result.
I don't think Windows is detecting the Fire TV Stick as a "Wireless Display", so maybe that's why the FTVS is aborting the connection - Windows is negotiating wrong????

Same here. Does not miracast windows displays.
Miracast is such a bull**** standard. How can they certify devicess when they all have different handshake procedures.
Im hopping for an update. I tried with three laptops.
works for me on a stock att galaxy s5 no issues, even video streams from showbox work well. no luck with custom rom note2. looks like its too old for miracast, but streambles app works alright and no sideload needed since its on amazon fire tv app store.
With Fire Stick, works with Galaxy Tab s 8.4, not so much with Verizon S5 or Note 3.
Galaxy S3; CyanogenMod 11 = Successful screen cast but no audio (is audio supposed to work).
Galaxy S4 Stock KitKat = Successful screen sharing, but again no audio.
Kindle Fire HD 7" (2012 version). CyanogenMod 11 = Fail (Screen cast seems disabled on this device with current builds of CM11)
Lenovo Miix 2 11 with Windows 8.1 = Fail (same problems as everybody else)
Dell XPS 12 with Windows 8.1 = Fail (ditto)
Intel NUC ( D54250WYK ) with Windows 8.1 = Fail (broken record)

[Q] screen mirroring not working, hardware problem?

Hello everyone, I just bought a Samsung smart tv with screen mirroring feature and my note 4, my wife old note tablet connects with no problems, but my note 10.1 2014 edition gives me "unable to connect because of an hardware problem" message. I am not rooted, I have the U.S wifi edition. patch did not help either.
does anybody have a solution please. going crazy. spent arm and a leg for a smart Samsung TV and can not do a simple task.
Have same problem connecting to Sony cinema system. S4 connects with screen mirrowing but note note 2014 with same Android version gives connecting error. If I find solution I will let you know.

Also having Mirroring issues
I also have a Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014 Edition) that is having issues with mirroring. I have an older TV and purchased a Netgear Push2TV device PTV3000 for wireless mirroring. When I try to connect to the Netgear device the Tablet usually fails to connect and displays the "unable to connect because of a hardware problem". I have been able to get it to connect, however, if I reboot the tablet, but if you disconnect and try to reconnect it will display the same error message.
Even if you do get it to connect it will drop out like clockwork about every 3-5 minutes. I tried to stream a movie to it and locked up every 3-5 minutes all the way through over and over. The movie will just freeze and then the tablet It will display something like "lost connection to the server " and you can report or reconnect. It will reconnect and start back where it left off, but quit again in 3-5 minutes. Very frustrating for a brand new 600 dollar device.
This is most likely a software problem if you don't have any trouble with your wifi connection.
I do not have any reason to believe my WIFI has any issues. I can stream the movie to the Samsung Tablet without any problem, it's only when I try to use the mirroring that problems occur. Also, I was able to mirror using the exact same setup with an android phone I had laying around that's about 3 years old and was able to 1) connect to the Push2TV much more readily 2) stream the movie without it locking up every 3-5 minutes.
I just bought a brand new Samsung smart TV 7250 series. Exact same problem. P600, US, totally stock. Not even root.

I just got the ptv3000, updated the firmware, and can connect no problems, except for the fact that it only mirrors a corner of my screen (only 1080p out of 1600p of the tab). I just can't figure out what to do. Yet I also saw that others had got it working. Why is it difficult with this tab.

Hi There, No need to worry. Please read below the fix.
Alright, here is the Fix for this. Please spread the word if this works for you. Because it worked for me. I didn't discover this solution so I can't take credit for this. Here it goes:
1. On your Note Pro/Tab Pro find All Share Cast from Samsung and UnInstall all the updates. Then click Force Close, all of this should be done in Application Manager.
2. Restart your Note Pro/Tab Pro (Very Important)
3. Using two fingers pull down the main screen from top down to unveil the controls menu. Touch Screen Sharing while the Miracast or other screen sharing service (Wifi Direct etc) is activated on Your TV.
4. Let it auto find it and auto connect..........Viola!

So I contacted Samsung customer support regarding this problem.
The first contact, they required me to do a factory reset, so in order to go any farther, I did that.
Once that was done, and the problem still existed, even before doing any updates or anything, I contacted Samsung Support again.
This time, they told me that I would have to send it in for repair at my expense (because mine is out of warranty; which pisses me off, because it was less than 3 weeks out of warranty.) Mind you, they never could tell me what the cost would be.
So apparently, I'm just not going to be able to screen cast from my SAMSUNG tablet to my SAMSUNG TV... even though screencasting from my Moto X works perfectly fine...
I do have squaretrade, but I'm not sure I want to claim that warranty just because of some screen mirroring not working...

All Share Cast has been replaced by Samsung Link. Screen Mirror works in Chromecast app on S5 and Note 10.1 (2014) but uses the network so has some lag. Screen Mirror works with Microsoft Display Adapter on S5 without network or lag but get the hardware error on stock Note 10.1 (2014). Tried the All Share Cast Patch and that did not work either. Still looking.

Cannot get Screen Mirroring or Wifi Direct to work

I want to cast my Samsung Galaxy Tab S 10.5 SM-T800 screen to my Sony 2015 XBR55X850C TV. When trying the mirror ing method the scanning on the tablet does not pickup the TV but when using the Wifi Direct the scan does see the TV and it shows on the TV that the Samsung is being registered. Afterwards the TV just goes back to the previous screen that gives directions for mirroring or to find if your device is supported (which is out dated). Am I not doing something afterwards. I am stuck? Never done this before and I sometimes I have a tendency to over-think things or become impatient and expect things to happen quicker than they normally do.
hello, wifi direct is for file transfer, is it possivle to have the tv updated? im using a samsung 55' smart tv and casting videos via smartmanager/youtube is just a click away however, initial pairing is done through your home wifi

Cast without wifi?

I am trying to find a way to cast movies from phone to tv in my camper without using a wifi network. I used to be able to cast from my Note 3 on 4.4 but apparently miracast is broken on 5.0.2? What would work without internet and a wifi network? I read that a Amazon Firestick would work once it's initially set up on a wifi network but haven't been able to verify.

I recently moved and had to wait for my ISP to setup internet. It idn't work for me even with a internal network. It needs an outside internet connection for setup to complete. None of my Amazon devices or Chromecast worked and only one of my Plex clients worked because it was previously configured for automatic sign in.

Here is how I do it when I travel but you may need a intermediate device. I would download movies onto my phone, start up my hotspot, use another device to setup the chromecast and then use an app like Local Cast to cast the movies from my phone to the chromecast. Recently I tried it and Local Cast wouldnt see the chromecast from my phone. So I moved the movies to my tablet and my tablet over the hotspot could see the chromecast and then I would stream them that way.
Because you arent actually pulling data for the movies (other than whatever background processes are running on the tablet) it doesnt sap away at your hotspot data.
I downlaod my movies to my Note 3 which is currently a wifi only device. I then set up a hot spot on my pixel xl and set up the chromecast. Then using allcast I was able to connect and cast to the chromecast. I swear this was much easier when miracast worked. I haven't tried the Firestick yet to see what happens.
I tested a few things to see what would work with the chromecast. Hotspot had to be on and left on. I could never get "guest" mode to work but the info says it should work so a guest can cast without being on your wifi network. No clue how to make that work yet.
I'll try and test firestick tonight. I also have a spare wifi router that I might take and see what I can do with it.
The firestick did not work.
This is so annoying since it worked on Android 4.4 and now on 5.0.2 it doesn't. I just want to simply cast my phone to my tv in a camper without a wifi network. I suppsoe I can eventually buy a wifi router but I really shouldn't have to. I wonder if the Note 8 will have Miracast or not?
Miracast works with crDroid ROM

I just got Miracast working with "crDroidAndroid-8.1-20180405-marlin-v4.1" for the Pixel XL. I just went into settings - connected devices - cast - then hit the three dots in the upper right hand corner to 'enable cast'. On my Fire Stick I started device mirroring. Bingo! Fire Stick shows up as connected. Works with VLC and Youtube testing so far. Sound and video work. Rotation of phone to horizontal creates full screen (55" TV) mode. I have magisk 16* installed but there are no settings I used in that app for this to work, just wanted it noted as it is the only non-stock app installed so far.

I posted this in the Pixel thread as well, forgot which forum I was on....

Interesting. I am on 8.1 stock, rooted, and custom kernel. I will have to test again when camping season kicks in here soon. I did pick up a Galaxy s7 Edge that will hopefully cast with Miracast. The Note 3 I was trying to use is retired now.
Once I enabled tethering on mine I was able to cast to my Chromecast with the in app cast button. I either had data disabled (the x over the cellular signal) or I turned on airplane mode then the tethering. This allowed it to work for some reason that I cannot explain in much detail. Basically one of those two things maybe both can't remember causes the traffic to be properly routed locally instead of over the net like before. I accomplished this on stock Android using localcast,YouTube, and Netflix less than a month ago.

Cannot use smartview

Hi all, I can't use smart view for mirroring to TVs, be it Sony Android TV, LG WebOS TV, or samsung's own (I don't know what's the OS). it connects, then immediately disconnects without even showing the mirroring. It failed to connect, technically. What's the problem?
Are you using any VPN while trying to mirror? If so, disconnect VPN and try again.
Same, no change
smartview has not worked for me once
using chromecast on netflix and youtube works perfectly, however chromecast with any other app gives me same issue as smartview
