Or accounts.
Careful though. You may get customer loyalty first and they will try to 'solve' your issue without retentions. Loyalty will give outstanding deals but retentions can go even further.
If you are not out if contract or close to it though you may not get much.

I've been with them for 6 years but when I called them last week and said I am mad that Verizon is selling it for 199 and my upgrade cost is 329. I said I want to cancel (which I wasn't) to move to Verizon and bam. Got two S3 for 179 each and also got a mail in rebate for 50 bucks per phone. Grand total for two S3 after rebate 258.
I just feel these are reasons T-Mobile isn't fairing well. Yes we all want deals but come on. This is just whining and I feel it is ripping T-Mobile off and not making them the money they deserve to make. The S3 is $330 on T-Mobile with a mail in rebate of $50. Making it $280. Yes the other carriers have it for $199, but with their plan prices compared to T-Mobile, you are paying less with T-mobile. Saving you money over the course of your contract. I've been with T-Mobile for 7 years and have not once felt the need to call retention and lie to them about wanting to cancel and switch carriers just to save a few bucks.

Retention is there to do this. Every carrier has retention that does this. If it was that detrimental to them they wouldn't do it. The whole reason they do it is to keep you with their service so obviously it's not doing much harm.
Also some people are dishonest. That's how the world is. It's great you've never had to do this, I haven't either but some people aren't honest and some people need to save as much as they can. It happens.

T-Mobile customer service has been crap lately.
Look at the issue that I was having with them (warning: long read)
http://support.t-mobile.com/thread/29215
To continue from that thread:
I had to sent in all three of my 32GB phones and went to the store and got myself 16GB Galaxy S3s which royally pissed me off because I wanted 32GB.
I'm still waiting for the credits to be posted on my account for the 32GB phones I sent back in.
Jessica on T-Mobile forum has been really helpful with my situation and immediately posted some credits on my account to lower the cost of the 16GB S3s that I had to pay out of pocket again.
I am glad that I posted on that forum because Jessica has been the one constant person that's been helping me through all these issues. She knows the situation from A-Z and I didn't have to explain it over and over again to different CSR's.
However, the fact that T-Mobile kept messing up and not registering the phones being returned to them are problematic and I, as a customer, had to pay for that. I wanted the 32GB phones but now I'm stuck with 16GB. In the future, I don't think I'll renew my contract with them and just go month to month. Or, if I do renew my contract, it will be the value plan and I'll just buy my phones from here or ebay or something. Too much hassle having to deal with T-Mobile.
10 months yo. I have a link I saved somewhere, but Google 'tips from an former t-mobile employee' should give you the link to some great info! I personally just saved close to $400 by calling into complain, with legit complaints, but hey I'm rocking a nice new phone. Plus I was able to get early upgrades on all our lines of service.
Edit: Everybody is entitled to a rebate if one is being offered!

That's one thing that frustrates me about T-Mobile. They're ALWAYS doing amazing deals for new customers but never do much of anything for existing customers. I want to upgrade my wife's line and I can get a cheap standard flip phone for free or pay $100 for an old outdated MyTouch Q (which seems like an absolute waste of using an upgrade) or pay ~$300 for a SGS3 for her.

I've been with T-Mobile for 10 years and they have been fantastic. They offered me the 10gb data plan with mobile hotspot for $30 a month today. I'm still thinking about it, I have the new truly unlimited for $30 a month right now. I'm 10 days outside the 14 days you have to get the insurance and the customer service representative told me that today but still gave me the insurance for being a premium customer.

I'm soo thinking about calling them back about that deal. They said there only offering it for a short amount of time for premium customers. I hit 7gb last month. I just like knowing that I have unlimited data. Can we not tether like we could with the S II? I member all I did was delete tethering provision and it worked. But they did say with the truly unlimited plan tethering is not allowed.

me too man... Oh well, I LOVE THIS PHONE :good:
I just added a second line to my account last Wed, and i got the S3. Friday i see the deal online and am pretty pissed that i just paid $348 for the phone and not 2 days later its $99. I call them and get tossed around all weekend and no help on being compensated for the difference. The only thing they said i could do was to send it back wait for the return process to go through, then buy a third line for that price. Complete Bull**** that they cant just credit me the difference(not including the rebate). The return process itself would take a week i was told, so i would be without a phone for 1-2 weeks. I am just shocked at their process for this. I love the S3 that i have, but come on.

The main monitoring occurs on the network not the device level. Essentially they are monitoring the user agent of the outgoing traffic.
One easy way to circumvent their tethering blockage is to use a 3rd party tethering app and change your user agent on your internet browser to android or iPad/iPhone. Both Chrome and Firefox have extensions that easily let you change your user agent.
Confirmed working for me on the unlimited 4G plan using Chrome and WiFi tether.

I think I have 20% still, but sprint tried to bump it down to 18% when I got my s3, they were trying to be sly and I called them on it. Still have my 20% discount as a state employee.
There is no human that applies those discounts any longer. Its all systematic and must be verified online. Credit union, AAA and AOL are the most common ones.

I never got any notices, they just turned off my discount. I had to call them to find out why. They didn't have verification of my employer so I had to do their verification process. Fortunately, they have my employers email domain on their list so I only needed to enter my work email and it was approved immediately.
The csr told me they recently did an audit of all their discounts. Anyone who hadn't verified in the last 22 months, or had no verification at all, was supposed to be notified and the discount was removed if you didn't fix it.

Discounts range from 10-28 % for a consumers account
The.discount system now automatically removes discounts
After 24 months or upgrade whatever is first. Easy verify program
Just go in to a store and ask for the form and some help filling out.
Discounts only apply to plans over 39.99 and only discount
A.plans base price (family plan $149.99 gets a discount off
Line 1 (110$) or individual plans 69.99.. Insurance and data
Fees don't get discounted and taxes don't get discounts.
Need a photo I'd from employer or a pay stub
Must be account holder that's getting discount
Credit union me members get 10% and waived activation
And upgrade fees..and promotional they currently get 100$
To port in a number..
People who have biz accounts get their employees 10% it higher
Sprint reps get around 50% but loose the ability to upgrade
While on this employee plan type..
Hope this helps..pm me and I can get you a link for paperwork
And.or find you your personal discount code.

Depending on the discount they are going away.
I lost my corporate discount because I didn't want to bother filling the application to reapply again, (actually I thought that discount was going away but it wasn't?) still less expensive than other carriers, I have a great service at home and work and almost half of my bill is for phones anyway.
So if it is corporate discount you're talking about, maybe they changed the rate, otherwise I have no idea.
Yes it was a corporate discount that has continued from a previous employer.
But for some reason it got lowered to 8%.
Sent from my SM-N900T using Tapatalk
Most likely the agreement with your corporation and t mobile changed. You are actually lucky as apparently most corporation discounts have expired or gone away totally. I know the one I could have had is now gone, which is part of the reason I am still with ATT, but I will switch soon likely to t mobile anyways as I use all their phones with unlocked bootloaders. I just hope that continues....
