Hi,
I have the Htc Desire android 2.1 with launcher pro. I loved it until recently it is showing that Launcher Pro has expired & it won't allow me to do anything. I restarted the phone, took out the battery but nothing seems to work. I am basically locked out because I trusted this product. Please help me out here, I would appreciate it. Again, htc Desire 2.1,launcher pro free version saying expired & opening up the browser only. I can't do anything else & I can't reboot as I would lose my contacts & data.
I tried looking at the solutions provided over the internet but nothing suits my situation. A lot of those solutions work for android 2.2 but I have 2.1 which I cannot update right now. Please help me people.
Thanks in advance. My phone is bricked until one of you guys can tell me a solution.
First of all that is not a brick. Second can you get in to settings? If yes, got to application management go to launcherpro and clear the defaults hit the home button and select the Sense launcher or download 'ClearDefaultHome' and clear the defaults. If that does not work you can do a factory reset but you will lose all your data.
And last where did you get that version of launcher pro? From the market?
Same problem here - but for the HTC Wildfire...
I'm having exactly the same problem - My version of Launcher pro was downloaded from the Android Market and has worked fine until this morning when it expired.
My phone will not let me access my home screen or any of my applications. When I press 'Home' it just takes me to my browser which contains an error message stating 'You do not have permission to access /index.php on this server. Additionall, a 403 Forbidden error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request'.
As I cannot access my home screen, I am unable to access my settings in order to manage my applications and uninstall Launcher Pro... Starting to panic now!
Any suggestions would be appreciated!!!
Thanks x
Not bricked.
Erm, your phone is not bricked.
Well the way i see it,
1) you could email the maker of launcher pro and explain your situation, though I think its more of a user error
2) Do what TheGhost1233 said, try to go into your settings, and select clear default on launcher pro app. Use htc sense again.
3) factory reset everything and set up everything once again
4) root and flash a new rom (Its more fun )
edit* For people who can't access their settings, try downloading another app that allows you to change settings.
If a factory reset is a to big of a step you could also try to remover launcherpro (in recovery) via ADB.
Thanks for your replies! As ghost1233 and friedkimchi suggest, I am unable to go into my settings or do absolute anything with the phone. I have the exact same problem as described by the other person in this thread of not being able to anything but just go to the browser which I cannot use because wifi is not enabled and cannot be because I can't access anything.
I bought the launcher pro from the android market and it was a free version which I have been using for months now. I seriously want to avoid the factory reset thing until I can because I do not want to lose the data. If I have to then I will but just trying to see if I can avoid it somehow. Nothing seems to be working now.
Yes The Ghost1233, factory reset is a big step because I would lose all my data and contacts. But then, what is ADB and I thought recovery meant factory reset.

Thanks, this seems helpful and points us in the direction where everyone is suggesting us to go to i.e. install ADB and uninstall Launcher pro in recovery mode. There is this video provided in this link which tells how to do that: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A1SOSXwkc_8
Is this what you guys think is the last resort we have here for this problem and if I install ADB, would that be make my phone rooted?
Thanks for all your help and replies!
No it won't root your phone but you will run in to the problem that your phone probably does not have USB debugging enabled.
But i suggest you follow the linked thread (the launcherpro forums) for further help.
I do not obviously want to run into any kind of problems. What do you suggest then. This is not something that I am choosing, I did not find any other options. Please suggest what would be my options given my situation. I am not a nerd so I do not know if I will be able to do all this installation thing properly or not. This was kind of a relief that this would not root my phone. I don't know why I am afraid of it but I really like the handset and I don't want it to be screwed because of anything.
Thanks
a coworker of mine had the same issue today. I'm just reposting the link from another website, since I typically come to xda to find answers to stuff like this... either manually type this into your ANDROID browser, or if you could somehow make it to this page from your phone, just click this link... from your phone lol
market://search?q=pnamerg.adw.launcher
it is the direct adwlauncher link to the android market!
hope this helps! =)

You used free version of launcherpro, right?

Yes, that's right. It was a free version that I have downloaded from the android market.
idk if some of you are still having the same problem but if you are, i got this from another forum and it seemed to work for them:
Hold down the 'home' key in order to start your native task manager.
You should see the Settings icon, probably in the bottom right, of your tasks.
If you don't see Settings, double-tap your Home key in order to open Voice Dialing. When it opens, say 'Open Settings.'
Once you're in Settings, go to Applications, and remove LauncherPro.
Hope this helps.

if that doesn't work you, and could open the browser type this in:
(it should download adw launcher)
bubiloop.com/download/org.adw.launcher
ps. my cousin had this problem and search for a solution and found it, just thought i would share since. xda always helps me out
Hey, I tried doing all this except for the download thing but it does not work. I cannot download anything because wifi is disabled and there is no way I can enable it. If I could have had a back up of my data I would have probably tried the hard reset.
I really appreciate all you folks to try and help me out. I am still trying.

the download worked for my cousin.
when she held the home button it opens the most recent apps. and she had the browser there. she opened up the broswer and typed that in. and it worked now she has adw launcher.
I had LauncherPro running and used Titanium backup to freeze it. Now I cant use my Note coz it just keeps telling me that the TouchWiz is stopped and then the screen blacks out. Cant even get to Titanium Backup to unfreeze it.
Please help to either unfreeze or to reset in some way back to anything that works.
You could try installing another launcher via the play store website. It'll get pushed to your phone providing it's got a network connection.
I'm not sure if you can unfreeze an app via adb, if so you could give that a go.

cant go to playstore or anything else on the note. can't change home screens, cant open an app either. can only use the hardware button to shut down. the touch screen is giving a stopped message when i unlock after boot and when I ok the message the screen blacks out. the message comes back in a few seconds but I can only ok the message and then the screen blacks out. CLOSED LOOP.
I meant go to the play store on a PC, it will get pushed to your phone over the air.

I deleteed TouchWiz launcher with Titanium and now I don't have any FCs or problems with my Nova Prime launcher.
The white LauncherPro installed over the air from my pc but it didnt help as I dont have a way to activate it on my Note. Would need to see the screen to go into settings to activate it.
I'll have a look at adb even though I am quite sure it will not have the unfreeze option. Maybe I can reset to factory or similar.
Any other ideas are welcome.
It should have detected a new launcher and given you the option to select it, try something like GoLauncher (different from Launcher Pro you installed).
I'm still trying to think of ways to do it without resorting to wiping the phone.
If I do I'll let you know.

Just use odin to flash a stock rom. Or wipe your phone from the recovery.

You can just reflash the to stock again.
i tried the go launcher and it worked fine but the ended up with google play and titanium backup missing among the installed apps so couldnt unfreeze LauncherPro and the if selected TouchWiz was still messed up. I finally gave up used adb to reboot into cwm and reset to factory.
Really confusing the TouchWiz is still an issue after the reset. and can't do any action on the phone. Looks like I will have to flash back to stock unless somebody can come up with something else otherwise please point me to where i can find the stock rom and flashing instructions.

I had a similar problem as the OP and though this thread didn't really help me, I figured I'd post what wound up working for me.
For starters, I was going to follow what was recommended on the Titanium Backup FAQ Item#21:
titaniumtrack.com/kb/titanium-backup-kb/titanium-backup-troubleshooting.html#frozen-too-many-apps-now-cant-use-device-to-launch-TB
However, I wasn't in front of my computer and I didn't want to be phone-less all day, so I tried to find some work around to get where I could unfreeze the important apps in TB.
My main problem was that I couldn't access any apps due to the fact that the home page would immediately fail and give me the "Touchwhiz Home has stopped working" error.
I still had partial access to the phone in that I could still access the pull-down menu.
Blocking mode was enabled so it showed up in the pull-down menu and I could click on it and then get into my phone settings.
I tried going through settings to get to TB and while I could get to the Application Manager, I couldn't directly launch it from there. I force-closed TB and rebooted the phone...big surprise, nothing changed.
I figured wiping Dalvic was worth a shot too (from CWM), but that didn't have much of an effect either (though it did force an app update on reboot).
Anyway, since I still had access to the pull down menu and notifications, I decided to see if I could txt myself a link (from another phone) to the TB googleplay location since you can launch the application directly from the Play store. Well, I got the txt, but I couldn't open it due to a "messaging has stopped working" error every time I clicked on it.
Since I got the notification, I knew information was still obviously getting to my phone, so I figured I'd give it a try via gmail since it is less tied to the phone launcher than messaging.
Sure enough, I got the notification and I was able to open gmail from the notification. Clicking on the googleplay link in the email successfully launched the Playstore. From there I was able to launch Titanium Backup and unfreeze Touchwhiz Home.
Hope this helps someone else, I was really not looking forward to doing a complete wipe and re-install of my whole phone.
This simple jumping around to get to TB does obviously require that you can access your notifications and that you have them turned on...otherwise you're still screwed.
If your phone is rooted and you have a custom Rom on, just Reinstall the Rom again without wiping anything through recovery. It will bring back the touchwiz launcher without touching your data. It might reset your app settings back at least all your contacts, messages, etc will still be there.

I just went through this. And maybe this will help the next person searching for a solution.
I froze touch wiz in Titanium and could not boot. So I went to Google Play on my desktpop and logged in. Then installed "Smart Launcher". I had no idea if it was installing or not but on Google Play on my desktop it said "installed" so i did a battery pull and restarted into Smart Launcher. Then rebooted again to get the prompt which launcher Iwanted to use and I chose "touch wiz" and "don't ask me again"
Anyone has the "complete action using" not sticking? Trying to fix the browser but unsuccessful. Remove "Google Search" update doesn't work.
Any suggestion are much appreciated.

I have noticed this. I am currently on the deodexed KK version with some tweaks by munjeni, but I think it's a KK issue. I seem to recall the same behavior on stock.
went into Setting>apps>"Browser">set default, found out Set Default "GRAY OUT"! ?
update -
Right, sort of found a temp solution to fixed browser. (Xposed and rooted)
Download Xposed module Complete Action Plus, turn off the other browser and set only one browser available. (Manage app in list).
I want to set Link Bubble as default and Chrome/ dolphin as secondary. So went to setting and configure Link Bubble as favorite and turn off others. This allow link to auto open in Link Bubble and if i need to search by browser i can select apps individually to open.
Hope this help others using this temp solution, otherwise need MOD or KITKAT fix. Not sure it was a Kitkat bug as not seen many people has this issue.
No issues here, did you full wipe before installing?
Sent from the app on my Z1C...
yes, full wipe (system), Titanium restore (Non-system file) only. Well, will leave it for now and update KK fix with full wipe again.

HI guys, just received the Mi Max 3 and updated it straight to MIUI 10 China Dev build, but I'm unable to change the launcher, I've never had trouble before with Xiaomi devices, once I install a new launcher, I normally just go to default apps and select it there from the list of available launchers, but not this time, I've tried Nova, Google Pixel, Lawnchair, none of them show up on the list of launchers, are you guys experiencing the same?
Thanks XDA
UPDATE: Got it, had to go a bit too extreme to get it working, so tried factory reset, without setting up any apps, just straight to sideload Nova apk, but still no luck, so the solution was:
Sideload Nova Launcher APK (from apkmirror website), open cmd/shell and run the following commands:
1 - adb shell
2 - pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.miui.mihome
3 - pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.miui.home
So basically, removed all references to MIUI launcher and now pressing the home button takes me to NOVA Launcher =D
Hope this helps for someone that goes through the same.
Have tried Nova Launcher.
Install launcher.
Hit home button, hit once again and there will be shown option to choose your default launcher. Choose one.

Thanks for the quick reply, but no, I don't see that pop-up =( are you running the latest MIUI CN 10 beta 8.9.6?
Please see screenshot, only have "System launcher" and the option to download "Jeejen Home screen", no other launchers showing =(
I'm on 8.8.30, but there is no difference, it has always been so.
Try uninstalling launcher, then reinstall and hit home button at once.

Tried that and also after installing pressing "home" button straight away, tried this with different launchers as well =/
Right, went a bit extreme, did a factory reset and nothing, tried adb to remove the MIUI launcher, hopping it would force the launcher to pop-up, but nothing, after removing MIUI launcher (package com.miui.home), pressing the home button did nothing, I was stuck in settings screen xD, so factory data reset again, jeez, what have they done with this MIUI 10 =/
To change default launcher go to settings -> Home screen and recents -> change default launcher. I'm on Miui 10 Dev 8.9.6 but I've always seen that option even on 8.8.3. I always install Lean launcher when I first get my new phones. Hope this helps.

Tried that as well, did not work, the only solution I found was removing the MIUI launcher through ADB. Sold my Max 3 and ordered again, but this time I got the official Global version it is quicker to re-order then waiting for the bootloader unlock permission xD should get it this Friday... Thanks for your reply =)

try 1st to clear google data (the google search app with the assistant you will need to configure G.assistant again) 2nd disable the swipe up option from the config (see attachement) and see if you still getting the error.
the launcher I use is this one they say it's ads free I couldn't know since I have an adblock but it has many options it's the best for me so far
I guess there is something wrong with search engine of stock launcher.
If you don't wanna to change launcher, I suggest you to go Settings -> Home Screen, and then deactivate "Swipe up to open search".
If you wanna a new laucher, I suggest Nova Launcher.
