Battery calibration anyone succeded?
Hi I have a battery calibration problem on my GT-N5110 Note 8.0 that I bought refurbished through amazon. I know it is the calibration since the battery usually drains pretty fast and when it gets to 1% it stays there for around half to one hour of continuous use. Also sometimes when I'm charging it, it jumps from around 60% to 100% and "charged" shows up right after that happens, when I unplug it and use it, then it goes down normally (fast) 1% at a time, even though that big jump while charging happened.
I have tried several "full cycles" without success and haven't been able to find a real way to calibrate the battery meter, neither here or on google, and since I didn't buy it in my country, local samsung support say they can not help me.
I'm on 4.2.2 leak rooted and the drain has been present since I was on 4.1.2 stock.
If someone can get a hold of how to calibrate, it would be really nice if you could share it! Thank you!

I tried the battery calibration app before, and really didn't do a thing for me...
I also suffer this weird battery behaviour with the device charging, it will take ages up to about 60%, and then instantly its at 100%
I also get this on the way down... when im using it, the battery drains fast, but when I get to 35 -40%, I then suddenly get the low battery 15% warning flash up, and then im all out of juice.
This is the same whether im on 4.1.2 or 4.2.2 custom or stock firmware
I rarely get more than an hour screen on time, and thats with fairly low brightness and power saving mode on
If someone could some how contact Samsung and ask them about the real calibration it would be very helpful for us having this issue... Since some don't live in the US and don't get the correct support :what:

I don't have the same issue,so I couldn't help. Sorry.
I need help with this too!
Battery decreases so quickly when wifi is on! hardly get a days use out of it...:crying:
One method described in the battery performance thread which I've found effective:
"I wanna share my trial of battery calibration that really make a significant different at least till now .. I used to make calibration by discharge / charge cycles, but this time i add an official instruction of Apple:
- discharge the battery by ur normal usage till 1% then let the device play an HD movie till it shut down (that may take some time as it for me takes 4 hours!!) then turn it on to make sure the battery read 0% (my previous calibration the battery always shut down at 1% and I never see that 0% as I was discharging it vigorously) after making sure it is 0% it will turn off by itself anyway.
- now leave ur device turned off for extended time (about 5 hours or more is better according to apple "u could let it while u r sleeping"
- after that turn the device on and plug it in as it is on
- left it charges as it likes (for my trial it takes 7 hours and didn't say charged!! but I had to unplug it as I had to leave the work!)
till now my battery is really significantly improved, hoping to continue like that and I will keep u updated
Hope that helps :good:"
Discharging it completely, leaving it dead overnight then giving it a full charge by plugging in as a soon as it powers on has yielded good results for me. However I've also discovered a severe battery drain bug in stock Kitkat which has nothing to do with battery calibration; using wifi on certain routers causes Android OS wakelock which persists in deep sleep. I use my old Galaxy W as a hotspot for my Note 8 and consistently my battery drains overnight in deep sleep with wifi on. At my workplace we have a Linksys E2500 router, I leave the tablet on wifi throughout the day and don't notice the Android OS wakelock. So if you're having inexplicable battery drain test your Note 8 on different routers.

Calibration is a myth... google stated calibration tools do not help with how Android functions with battery management.
I posted my thread about battery and charging cables, and replied an a few topics like this one, yet nobody will search on Samsung DVFS disable or take note of it as being the cause.
Root with saferoot if you have not rooted, install xposed framework if not done so, and Wanam Xposed or Wanam DVFS disable. Since over 10 months now, my battery stats and performance are trouble free.
I was having severe battery drain for a while until I tried something I read about. What you do is carefully open the note up and disconnect the battery for about 15 minutes (they recommend a longer time but I don't see the need). Connect it back up and put the note back together.
It worked for me.
Google it, there's even a video on how to do it.
I was down to 3 hours or so of battery time but bought a replacement battery from a company called New Power 99. Cost $65-ish US and now I can go all day and still have at least 25% when I hit the sack at night. Huge improvement for me! I"m not a heavy user but I take notes at work, do some surfing, then read and surf alot at home at night. So far it's been great! Might think of a replacement battery. Probably cheaper one's out there but I wanted to get what I paid for so shelled out the extra.

Hi! Thanks for the info! That's great to hear, one question, did you change the battery yourself? If so, could you provide a hint on which guide you used, that would be verry helpful:good:
The battery came with a DVD that explained it (with really bad music) but the bottom line is you pry the back off, take the 8 screws off, unplug the old - plug in the new and replace everything. Not really hard but, as I said, nerve-wracking! I was afraid I'd screw it up but it was pretty straight forward.

That's awesome I would like to buy the same one in case something goes weird and need instructions to follow. Do you remember anything about the seller/model/site you got?
Yeah, just go to Amazon and search for "new power 99 battery replacement kit". Then pick Note 8 from the list. eBay has them too.

Any time. Hope this works for you. It did for me.
I. Had the same issues, I just took off the back cover and disconnected the cable that connected the battery. I did not need a new battery. The toughest part for me was disconnecting the battery cable... I actually had to take out the 8 screws that held the battery in place, so I could get some leverage. I only had my battery disconnected for only 5 minutes and it solved the problem for me..... Good luck!

just fully charged it last night, play a bit, battery was at 90% when i went to bed, wifi was on, i even had the juice defender installed.
when i got up this morning (6 hr sleep), the battery has 50% left! when i check the battery usage, Cellular Network is the one used battery most, says 30%, then Phone idle came second with 25%. is that normal? ( I don't think so...) even the phone in idle mode it used that much battery? and even i don't have a SIM card in the phone, the Cellular Network still consuming battery?
Sounds like it was searching for the network all night. I would hope it'd be smart enough to just stop, but apparently not! I'm sure it'd sleep like a baby in airplane mode.

If the radio is on it'll consume power - and with no SIM card inserted, unless you enter airplane mode, it'll leave the radio on for emergency calls.
Might even consume MORE power in that configuration. I've noticed that Qualcomm devices often behave badly in terms of power consumption when they don't have a SIM.
Yep, way more. I work in AK and you often leave coverage, do so without going in to airplane and the battery will plummet as quickly as if you are on an active call because your phone is constantly searching for a network. Some phone will search for a while and then take a break and resume after a set interval. These are not as bad but you're still way ahead of the game going to airplane until you get in coverage.
Some people are not aware that you can go into airplane and then turn on WiFi after.
Anyone else have OppoKinectService.apk show up as a major contributor towards battery drain? When I look at my battery consumption history its always between 30%-40%. Does anyone know what that app does or controls?
Isn't that the service which controls the off screen gestures?

Not sure to be honest. I have all gestures turned off and yet I still have the drain. Only gesture I have enabled still is knock on/off. That can't account for that much drain. Unless they are still working out the kinks in color OS
You're either out our you're in because enabling one requires the phone to standby for a potential input every bit as much as enabling them all. You do benefit from killing the voice because the phone no longer has to keep a live mic going or use cycles trying to parse out whether you did or did not use the trigger phrase.

Yes, I posted on the Oppo Google+ community yesterday on this very thing. My battery life is atrocious! I even reloaded the phone after a few days (to rule out an app). I have tried everything under the sun to improve the battery performance, even turning the LTE off and going with Edge service - made very little difference. I love the hardware, but this is ridiculous. I understand each phone has its nuance, but there is a limit. Thankfully, Oppo included an extra battery. Perhaps with this freebie, they acknowledge battery drain? Thankful for the rapid charger too. I hope a firmware release is on the way that will address the battery drain issues.

I don't get poor battery life by any means. I got 13+ hours yesterday with 7+ hours of on screen time. I just want to know where that drain is coming from and if it can be avoided and yield better battery life.

At that point I still had the knock on/off gesture enabled. I just had other gestures off. After disabling the knock feature I noticed the OppoKinectService stopped appearing in my battery manager so I guess that solves that.

So what's your secret @dc82?
Strange you have the OppoKinectService listed in your battery stats, I have all the gestures on and never see that.
But I, and I think many others, aren't seeing anywhere near the screen battery time you're getting.
What else have you configured/disabled? Which software version?

i normarlly have over 3hrs screen on time during my 1st week with 7a.
phone used time from 17~30 hrs depends on my usage. but generally i think the battery is very good.
and strangely enough, when i leave the phone idle (during my sleep) , it seems to drain faster than when i use the phone during the day? anyone else have the same experience?
Yes, the reports on poor standby are so ubiquitous that I'm pretty sure the rare few who are claiming otherwise don't know what they are talking about or are mistaken. It was mentioned in every single review that bothered to mention standby at all so you can figure you have a known issue(s) affecting all devices.
I got my OP3 on 17th June....since then I can see that my battery draining very fast.... Its like draining 15% overnight (within 8-9 hours) there's nothing running in background except facebook, truecaller ... I tried factory reset twice but same problem.... also playing high end games like asphalt 8 will run down battery from 100 to 10% within an hour, with device getting too hot ...
Is it the fault in my OP3, or it is normal?
Should I replace my device.... I still can return my device to amazon (before 27th June).... Plz suggest guys...

I don't think it's Normal. In the initial 1-2 days it can behave weirdly and disappointing but post that things should come to order. But your situation sounds chaotic my friend. Try some app which can give battery stats so that you will know for sure whether it's some software setting messing up or hardware problem.
r u rooted, if so u can download wakelock detector b/c something is running in the background, i only drop about 4% or 5% in an 8hr period, or what shows that is being used the most on settings>battery, i don't think it may be a defect i think its something that could have been installed that is causing ur device not to sleep properly

Hey...im faceing same issue and also im rooted plese give me some suggestions..
I'm going through the same problem. If you check the battery stats, you'll notice that Android System is continuously working the cpu. This, in turn, is causing the battery to drain quick. I tried turning off every setting, turning off sync, even disabling apps like Hangouts and Photos but nothing worked. Even after 2-3 charge cycles, it was the same. Standby time was good but the moment I picked it up to use it, the drain kicked in.
I have already requested a replacement. My return pickup is scheduled for today but the replacement won't be shipping until after 27th June when the phone will be back in stock.
My battery life been good so far, some LTE and mostly WiFi, browsing and played some dokkan.
Apologies for double post, thought this would also help provide more info, I do have greenify and amplify, xposed installed.
Can somebody analyse my OP3 Battery stats and tell me whther I should go for replacement OR is it normal??? (Pics attached)
Is there any tool/app to test battery performance.....?

For greenify, i used xposed and paid donation for pro features.
Greenify + Xposed: Select any apps you want hibernated and enable the following:
Wakeup timer coalescing, telephony wakeup, dont remove notifications, GCM push for greenified apps.
Amplify: http://forum.xda-developers.com/android/general/guide-extreme-battery-life-t3095884
Follow this guide, only select ones you want though as some could break push notifications and location service.
Hope this helps!

From screenshot, it seems that you have around 25-30% battery left with around 2.5h of SOT and device was up for almost 18h without charge. That's decent in my opinion. By the time it reaches 1-2% you would have gained 1 more hour of sot. Also usage of apps matter from one person to another.
At 22% I started played a 3d cricket game... after about 20-25 min of play ... the battery is down to 13% ... Is it normal ?

That's 9% or around 22% per hour. Seems pretty normal.

Hey guys i have been facing a problem with battery draining recently and also slow charging. When my phone is Idle i can lose up to 30% overnight(also battery draining fast with light using). I even factory reseted. Nothing fixed. Second Problem is slow charging. I calibrated the battery with an app and used a new charger and it takes 3 hours to charge. Isnt that still a lot time? Before it took like 10 hours from 4% to 100.
In Battery usage when im not using phone there is 51% "phone is idle" and 14% is "Mobile waiting"(cant post pic-new member) Any solutions? Why my battery is draining like crazy when Idle? Thanks in Advance.
Check also the USB cable. I had the same problem of slow charging and since the cable is crimped and not soldered it becomes "inefficient" (but still works) after some time.
About the battery life maybe it's going to die...

id check in battery settings and see whats using it first
your screen should be number 1 sitting anywhere from say 35 40 % or higher
you want your screen percentage as high as possible
which means apps and services arent using as much.
mine sits around 65 % screen usage with android and chrome being next highest on my device which is ok cause im always on chrome.
now for the slow charging try diffrent cables and chargers and check to see if any damage or debris in usb port
all this unles the battery is truly going bad and just cant charge and or hold charge anymore

Apologies if this seems well travelled path, and I've certainly led a lot over the internet. But I just wanted to describe my issue and see if I've missed anything!
I've had chronic battery issues, and had a spare and I'd swap them in/out but I came to conclusion that wasn't great as it may not read battery stats well doing two different batteries. I was getting less than 12 hours between batteries. So now i have Powerbear 6500mAh battery and have been using it for a week. Apart from a heavy usage day I can now get 24 hours out of it. Superb.
Then as if by magic, trouble returns! The battery drained 11% overnight in seven hours. That's in airplane mode. 11% of a 6500mAh battery! Battery stats shows nothing has used battery in particular, just phone idle. Wake locks there was nothing significant. Now 5 hours later it's dropped another 43% with not a lot of use, just web and some maps.
Things I've tried:
Making sure the option to store activity logs is off.
Location turned off for all but most vital apps, like maps.
No automatic syncing of anything.
Greenify - and I shut down anything I can.
Wakelocks - ensuring nothing is abnormal, got rid of CityMaps due to excessive wakelocks.
Airplane mode at night - no cell, no wifi.
I rooted and reset the OS about six months ago, so that is my logical next step... but I'd rather understand what could cause 11% of 6500mAh to be drained by doing nothing!
Any thoughts of what I might have missed?
Stats: LG G4. LG-H815. Android 6.0. Build MRA58K. Software V20g-EUR-XX.
Thanks
Antony
What root method did you choose? SuperSU or Magisk? With Magisk my phone was hot (~70C) and got only 1.5h screen time, when i switched to SuperSU, it was gone.
Install GSam Battery Monitor app from the Play Store and see if it helps show you what's using up the battery.
I know you are not going to like reading this but
I don't use these extended batteries for a reason. Phone wasn't made for it.
Try your original battery
These extended batteries are also known to crap out after 500 charges
Use battery monitoring app to help you determine what's happening

I removed it as it never provided me anything worthwhile. I think it used to just say Android used the power or something vague. I can reinstall it, but there was never one specific identifiable reason I remember that.

Then I have to put up with a phone that won't last 6 hours, which is what led me to get additional batteries and now the PowerBear.
That said the following night, it used about 2% overnight... so erratic to say the least! And I have 59% left after 10 hours use. It's just the randomness the other day that spooked me. I did learn it was low on disk space, could have that caused that particularly bad event?
Did you try switching kernel? I can suggest you to try Imperium Kernel, that will reduce the system's usage. Other than this i have no idea. :\

What you said, is nosense for me. Some custom batteries are better than the original. You jsut must be lucky to pick the right one.

Thanks. I was thinking of doing something like that. Thanks for the heads up, there's a lot of choices... I'll check that one out.
