UPDATE (14th June 2011):
We are now over the 10,000 mark.
I have now spoken with Motorola and gotten confirmation that Motorola plan to unlock every device that will get an update in the second half of this year. This will include maintenance & firmware updates, but is still subject to Carrier approval.
The promising sign is that Verizon has already allowed Motorola to unlock a device on their network, the Xoom, which utilizes the unlockable/re-lockable model that Motorola intends on using across their devices.
I'm still looking to work with Motorola in the coming months to help see if we can make this a smooth process for Motorola and the community.
You can read the article here:
http://ausdroid.net/2011/06/14/an-u...witter&utm_campaign=Feed:+ausdroid+(Ausdroid)
Please share this where you can and keep it alive. I will continue to work with Motorola to see if we can get this thing torn wide open.
UPDATE (26th April 2011):
We are now at ~8,700 mark.
Motorola has now responded to me, stating that they are looking at unlocking bootloaders across their devices late 2011.
The article for the story can be found here:
http://ausdroid.net/2011/04/26/the-little-aussie-taking-on-motorola-u-s/#more-8184
We're still seeking clarity around whether this will be for current devices or only future devices.
I couldn't have gotten this far without the support of everyone here. You guys and girls have been a huge support and help me turn this snowball into a wrecking ball.
Please share this where you can and keep it alive. I will continue to work with Motorola to see if we can get this thing torn wide open.
Previous Update (4th April 2011):
We are now at ~7600 mark.
We're starting to slow down from our initial boom, so I have now set up a Facebook page to see if we can wrangle in some supporters that don't use Twitter or XDA.
I will need your help getting this out there. So share the facebook page where you can.
I'm also looking to see if anyone is interested in helping me Moderate the page. Please PM if you are.

Hi All,
I have created a Groubal (online petition) to get a response from Motorola on it's bootloader policy.
>>This petition started for the Atrix, but I made sure that it was for Motorola's overall Bootloader Policy. I have reached 200 signatures in 2 weeks, but now believe it's time to expand this out of the Atrix space and into the larger Motorola Dev community.
Just signed the petition.

Not to kill the cause... but the issue isnt really with motorola... Isnt it with the service providers who would rather have the bootloaders on the phones locked so they can sell us services we could install for free... ie Wi-fi Calling, Tethering..
I think Motorola's hands are tied.. their customers are the service providers.
Would it make more sense to harass t-mobile and the likes over this?

On all phones that have locked and encrypted bootloaders, I don't think there's been one that couldn't be rooted. Once rooted, you have access to all the Tethering and WiFi Calling apps out there. So it could be the case, but all unlocking the bootloader does is let you use custom kernels that form the base of alternative roms. So bloatware be damned, it can removed fairly quickly and without even touching the bootloader.
It would be more for warranty claims, that's why the padlock picture on the very first screen's the way to go. That way if a phone is damaged due to modification, the carrier/manufacturer can turn you away due to voided warranty.
signed the partition to
i am looking into the legal side of the locked bootloader to see if theirs any loop holes in locking a phone when the manufacture is part of the open handset alliance
but i think the fastest way of the bootloader being unencrypted is to put up a cash reward for the person that unlocks it.
maybe if we can raise £1000 it might spur someone on to go the extra mile

So why is my unlocked/un-branded Defy that is in no way tied to any network also cursed with a locked bootloader?
And if the networks are demanding it, how come not every manufacturer is crippling their handsets in this way?
This is a decision Motorola have made, no-one else.

Hi Folks,
As you know, there are lot meet ups happening in India for Honor/Huawei users, currently for Honor 6X and Honor 8 Pro only, but we may see these coming to other devices as well based on the response. It may be limited for older devices where software support is not possible but eventually newer devices like, Honor 5C, Honor 8, Honor 6X and honor 8 pro would be included (if they get more requests for 5C and 8).
In this thread, lets discuss on various points/feedback and feature request that we want to raise it to the Honor teams during meetup and eventually taken up to the R&D team for consideration to enhance the end user experience in a positive way.
Anybody attending these meet ups with Honor team can put forward these points and we wish these points will be considered to provide a happy and positive user experience.
Creating a thread in Honor 8 Pro section as well so that 8 pro user can fill their points there and we can refer any of these thread for unique points to proceed with.
8 Pro Thread
Good luck.
Attached is the list of point raised during Honor meet up in Chennai and compiled by our fellow member @amulbaby (Abhishek)
View attachment Points_from_Chennai_Meet-up.pdf
8 pro thread- https://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-8-pro/how-to/feature-request-feedback-upcoming-emui-t3669807
As we already discussed on other thread few of the points
removal of knuckle feature
camera lag on EMUI 5 (while opening only)
Over exposed image while using front camera
timely Kernel sources for all the device
Double tap to wake up
uniform OTA acorss all devices
Expecting for expert opinion, new points, feedback, feature request from @gopinaidu77 @VenuGopalu077 @PalakMi @RedSkull23 @clsA @jsbeyond @amulbaby add other if I missed anyone.

Well to be perfectly honest after owning 2 H5x and an Honor 8 I have no intentions of ever owning another Honor device.
The company has all but abandon it's past phone owners and all their interested in is you buying their next phone.
Their is no reason to back or support Honor and all their broken promises. The don't even respect their own employees
and they for Damn sure never listen to the Users request and feedback.
At the prices they are charging for their devices you could be using a LG G6 / HTC 10 / ZTE axon a Nokia 6 or any number of Moto or samsung phones (My kids Galaxy S8 plus was $525 with trade in and just $24 a month with samsung financing)

A transparent and open feedback mate :good:
First of all, thanks for asking my opinion about. I've read the PDF file attached and i found it very interesting. Plus, seeing such a relationship between OEM and customers is great. That's how things should always be.
Aside what has been already told, and the thing which i agree most is the uniformity of updates on all devices to ensure a quality performance to every device, I'd suggest to being more developer friendly (don't worry, I've already seen that in the points declared above, the release of kernel sources in time is already there). You shouldn't leave developers with tied hands, and anyway the device would be always bought from Huawei/Honor, so why mind too much at which OS will run on the phone? I buy the phone for hardware characteristics overall, what matters for real is that the user would feel free to do whatever it wants with the phone, once that it has been payed. Next; ensuring a stable security patch update without having to download the full package would be nice third: things like NFC chip present in the device but disabled in some countries (luckily I'm not one of the involved) should never happens. I understand about the call recording because some countries take it easier compared to others, but i think that the NFC technology is the same (or almost) in every country, so why disable it?
As i'll remind other features, I'll come back to speak about them. At the moment nothing else to say

Exactly mate. Thats why i said uniform OTA and similar EMUI for all variants if they use same hardware. Also OTA can be same across all devices.
First of all i want to say that honor is doing a good act.. Tgis meetup thing is very positive but i want them to really implement this and the results should be positive..
1. Double tap to wakeup on kirin based devices
2. Quick and firm OTA updates for all regions as i feel that Pakistan region is ignored and dont get updates fasters.
3. Should provide 2 major upgrades on a device.. Means 2 year full support.

Would be both a work in less to do by them, and a better way to communicate with other devices and so developing a more synergetic compatibility with various devices by the same OEM. Sounds more like something futuristic however ahahah. Jokes aside, some model surely has and will have particular features that are present only in models that the hardware would permit, like more options for a better shot on camera as an hypothesis. Then it'd be sufficient to add in the OS some strings as "show this option if camera sensor x is true" and "show not this option if camera sensor x is false" or something like that, like some apps and OS already do from many time (like Greenify and the alternative lock-screen option that is shown if is a fingerprint sensor is detected, in example).
I have two things to speak about:
1- honor made their devices totally hard to unlock and even harder to recover if bricked, I was wondering why they won't make it easy like Oneplus or Google?!
2- is about EMUI, I want Huawei to leave the lockscreen and notification panel just what Google intended (they can skin it however they)
The way how EMUI handle notification and lockscreen notifications is pretty bad.
I want them to fix these two points, and if they still continue with that.
I'm seriously going to sell my honor 8 and get Xiaomi mi A1

I recently got a notification that google will no longer be available to Huawei devices is this only for the new Huawei devices or is this for the old devices too? If this is for the old devices too then what will happen to the old Huawei android users? Will we still be able to use google services in our phones? This news is heartbreaking for Huawei users

Putting Huawei in the us trade blacklist is ok... But why does it have to do with the Huawei customers outside the US. Till date i did not have any problem with Trump but this policy is too much to take... Although Huawei is one of the most popular phones in the market and it runs on android. Why can't Google change their base to some other place to avoid this kind of policy?

It's not very easy for a company the size of Google to just move out of a country. Even though Huawei is the second best selling android phone company, it's still not financially viable to move HQ to a different place
---------- Post added at 08:51 PM ---------- Previous post was at 08:46 PM ----------
Also there is still the option that Google may be whitelisted from the new policy. It's still beeing discussed
It's interesting how some comment on Trump policy as stupid and devastating which might be true but from the same ranks I never heard complaining about Chine doing even worse for years. Their smartphones don't have google products cause they are banned from China if I understood correctly. Now when someone finally strikes back, we should call him stupid? I'd rather call him tough. So let's really consider who started it.

On the contrary. We should call China government stupid because their decision first affected whole Chine and now brought reaction with consequences to entire world. And if you think that it is wise to let someone dictate which products should be banned from his country no matter what consequences than really Chine is wise, and Trump also. But if his decision is stupid you should know that his decision is in fact reaction, while sole decision burden lies on China alone. And if you can't comprehend that, well, than you're not the one whose opinion on stupidity should matter among reasonable men. It was really time that someone gives China dictatorship a taste of their own recipe. For that I congratulate Trump.

I don't agree with you at all but I'm not going to start a discussion with someone on the Internet. Have a good day. (also saying people's opinion doesn't matter is not the right way of making an argument. People have different opinions)
Here's some facts and opinions to put on the table:
Huawei shouldn't be advancing this fast (power consumerism basically, just like us buying things we don't need), and USA government is scared with reason, and banned some stuff, this is OK.
USA, Google and Huawei should agree on a policy to only affect Google services on USA and not on all countries where Google is implemented, that's wrong.
Donald Trump needs to be teached something it wasn't in the past, but he's "grown up" by now and the parents weren't capable probably too. People with money aren't really happy I'll tell you that, it's just not true hapiness.
Google has too much power, which is somewhat controlled, but it's too much, even for the quantity of people managing it.
I agree with some people here. There must be actions, but the right ones.
Cheers,
AS

I didn't say things that you accuse me of. While you did say that WE should call POTUS stupid. That WE includes ME. So if you want to make impression that you respect different opinions maybe you shouldn't do it in the same thread where you say how EVERYBODY should call someone stupid. And then after you're given a sip of your own meal then you want to make a step back and pretend you stand for opinion diversity. Well that's stupid according to my opinion.
And also if you are not going to start a discussion with someone than it is your choice not to do it. But you did exactly the opposite here i.e. you did start a discussion with someone.
The president of USA is an idiot and that's a fact - just watch some documentaries. They are scared of 5G, they don't care about any smartphones Huawei makes. I really do hope Huawei sorts this out and if not that their Ark OS is going to surprise us all, even if it's just an AOSP or Linux mod. I do use Google services but after that stupid decision I have started doing backups to my local, Polish cloud services just in case that idiot does something to European Union. None of the EU countries banned Huawei and they don't plan to (Angela Merkel confirmed recently).
USA is loosing power, they will eventually start a serious trade war with the East because the East is just unstoppable now. Did you see the recent MWC in Barcelona? Not even a single, innovative tech from the West over there, everyone is enjoying the Chinese tech currently, they are HUGE in Europe and I hope it stays that way. We need more players on the market and who else could win with Samsung and Apple (all USA backed) if not Huawei?

Huawei can atleast start to release bootloader codes to their users of requested because atleast we have a chance to use custom roms available but rather they sent to let users give the unlock code
Majority of users don't care about locked bootloader.
Its really sad news for all Huawei owners (including me) as Google banned the further updates and pure Android apps for Huawei devices. This is really a huge loss to us as well as many of us have expensive devices and by this Ban we will loose our phones worth as well.
I have no idea what huawei will do for now but they should at least offer bootloader unlock to all devices as this will give the opportunity to the developers to update their phones to latest stock android version by help of famous CFWs (like LinageOS, AOSP etc.).
What you think about this issue?
by offering unlock bootloader ability to huawei phones owners , huawei may not loose his customers..

Same here. Unlocking bootloader can also put them in more risky position. But it will give a free hand to other developers who can work on custom versions and builds of Android.

Petition made by Huawei owners to bring back the unlock bootloader on Huawei devices....
Please be a part of the movement.
http://chng.it/J4JjJN4bQN
As we discussed xxxx I decided to prepare the bounty for anyone who will unlock 5G support for most/all countries. Feel free to support it (because Google doesn't want to...). You can find it there:
xxxxxx
Introduction and details are either in link or below in citation.
Hello everyone! I'm Sebastian and I'm part of XDA Community since 2010 (XDA profile)
Actually, It's not the first time I tried to encourage people to donate for anyone who will make a modification for an Android phone: Back in 2012 as LG 4X community we tried to either force LG to unlock bootloader by petitions or collect a bounty for possible developer who would do that unofficially.
Ten years passed and again me and other people faced a problem with a company which blocks the features on a phone for no reason. This time it's 5G for Pixel 6 (Pro), codename oriole/raven. My carrier (Orange Poland) uses basically the same 5G band/parameters as Magenta Austria (which is officially supported) and I can't use 5G because Google doesn't allow me just because. This is sad and disgusting.
For now at least we have working VoLTE/VoWiFi Magisk module which can be found here but that's it. Tensor SoC makes things even worse, because previous Pixels could be unlocked via Qualcomm tools.
I've tried to reach a few modders/devs by myself but either they have no idea or don't care...so I hope that money would be the best motivator
Okay, so now simple rules:
- All collected money goes to the person who will share a working software mod (Magisk/Xposed module, modem patch or whatever works), either for me on private message on XDA (and then we can share it for private testing for the ones who donated) or just share for public testing on XDA thread
Then after either private or public tests, bounty gets finished and the money will be sent.
- If we don't succeed or Google will come with official solution (doubt), I will cancel this campaign and contact the support to force the refund. In case of any problems, I recommend to leave any contact (email) while you donate to this bounty.
Also keep in mind that the modification will most likely require unlocked bootloader and/or root (although the less invasive solution, the better.
PS: Feel free to spam Google about that abomination here or other Support Google threads. It's time to them to finally explain to us why we can't use Pixel phones' features even if they are supported.

I will delete/cancel it and contact support to force the refund. Also if anyone has any doubts, he can suggest me how i could "authenticate" myself even more. I'm here for 12 years already and had a history with mods, TWRP and custom ROMs, I have not violated anyone's trust.
Edit: added description on campaign site, I will polish this thread a little after I take my PC
Edit2: Okay, everything is done. I'm about to make a thread on Oriole section as well as make some posts in threads related to 5G which I was looking on. Might try to share the info on some Telegram groups too
Have to consider your carrier's coverage, what bands they use for 5g and if they have a band whitelist just connecting to any 5g band won't do jack for you

Well, I have an 5G antenna around 10m from my flat... I talked with my carrier about it, they tried to do anything but they couldn't. It's only Google's fault, every other manufacturer somehow supports 5G when modem supports it, but Google just won't do that.
I have also donated, fingers crossed this will eventually work. Thank you for your work!

Have to take into account this is more a carrier issue than googles, the issue is you not buying the phone from them but from Google and they are not going to go out of their way to support a phone that was not purchased from them
Thank you. You should also be posting same on pixel 6 forums to get more attention.

Google doesn't even sell P6 in Poland. Also as I said in description: hardware supports it, my carrier uses same band/frequency as other carrier in Austria which is supported. If you still don't believe: take a look on Pixel 5 forums, they have a 5G unlock with Qualcomm tools. 100% it's Google's stupidity.
In the past I bought some Chinese phones and with global ROM they just worked..
The issue is the carrier and Google can not sell a phone with everything unlocked as it would run across a world of hurt from every country's on earth regulators that deal with spectrum use. Sure you can "unlock" it but with age of a phone comes vulnerabilities and fw updates to fix issues also your carrier / someone may care more than you want them to about you essentially breaking your country's communications/spectrum laws. Honestly, is it really worth all the trouble to make it work how you want it to or get a phone from your carrier with the support you want?
