[Q] Query for someone to try...WOULD BE HELPFUL TO ME.. - Galaxy Note 10.1 (2014 Edition) Q&A, Help & Troubl

If u have got a SAMSUNG GALAXY NOTE 10.1 (2014 EDITION) V 4.4. Can u please do something for me? Can u download ES file Explorer . Then can u Rename a file on the Internal storage by using ES FILE EXPLORER l(if it lets u) and if done successfully then can u move that file onto the EXTERNAL STORAGE using MY FILES (If it lets you). And then check if it doesnt say that "the system does not let you read and write on external storage". If done correctly then can u respond to this so i can then upgrade my Own Tablet to v4.4 as i am on my accord at v4.3 cos of the read and write allowance. ( btw it works on my samsung galaxy s5 which is the latest version which is v.4.4.2).
It would be so much helpful to me if someone trys this..
Thanks

You cannot move files to external storage with ES File Explorer if you're on 4.4. I think you need root access in order to do it (not sure of the exact process).
You can however do all of that with Samsung's My Files.
Edit: Just tried it again, it says "Your system forbids ES from writing on external SD card (check https://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=67570), so ES can only write on it after rooted."

That is what he actually asks you to do. Use "My Files" to move the renamed file not "ES File Explorer" for the test.
I'm currently at work and don't have the tablet with me, but I'll try today in the evening, if no one did the test until then.

U dont need root for this. Ive got an s5 v4.4.2 and its unrooted and still is. It lets me do exactly what i said in the post earlier. It lets me RENAME A FILE via es file explorer and lets me MOVE THE FILE via My Files. Just wanna find out if its possible to do exactly the same on note 10.1 tablet cos i recently downgraded it from V.4.4.2 to v.4.3 cos of the read and write restriction on v.4.4.2 . Would do it myself but dont wanna go to thru the process of upgrading and then downgrading if it does not work. So im asking someone if they have or will do it for me??.

APP2SD ran fine on my Note1 but not on the Note2 - it is an excellent app. ES file explorer, while also a very good app, has no move to SD card function that I have ever found. What are you talking about??

you can move it by open the file on you phone from pc and go to backup and move to the sd card np at all or from your phone same by going to backup open file and press and hold the file and choose move to Sd Card thats all but i would not put anything else before ES file explorer, most APP2SD apps even pay ones dont move files from you phone to sd thats why ES file explorer is rated highly and is free, but anyway everyone got different ideas wich apps they like and works better on you phone

Kit Kat changed the way sd cards work.
The easiest way i know to fix this is to Root your device and then install this app
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=nextapp.sdfix
I have the tab s 8.4 and have a micro SD card coming in this week. I might be misinterpreting this post but does Kit-kat really not let the user copy over downloaded files onto external storage? I'm the kind of guy that usually immediately roots but was enjoying the stock experience for once. Definitely a bummer if this turns out to be true.
No, it let's you do it fine. But you have to use the My Files app. Not the app of your choice. Unless you root and change that.

ES File Explorer File Manager
With this app, you DON'T have to ROOT your device, and you can copy/move file from device to SD-card vice versa:

You need to be rooted and applied the app to sd card fix before you can download torrents direct to sd card. Otherwise you can download straight to your tablet then transfer to sd card using the my files app.

You can't transfer apps to SD , from the Playstore "AT ALL", unless you are ROOTED.

Tried the app you linked and unfortunately it did not work. My problem was finally resolved with the Wanam Xposed application SD card fix. That works fine if anyone else has any trouble. But honestly it is so irritating that any of this is necessary to get full use of my device. I am rocking 128 gigabytes loud and proud
Okay well maybe not. Big file I was moving to SD is now gone and I can longer write to the SD. Bummer. No idea what went wrong.
Second edit: so the JRummy Apps "SD Fix" on the Play Store seems to have me covered for now. Fingers crossed...
Third edit: Gahh once again read only. No idea what the issue is. SD appears empty, can't read or write. Any help would be appreciated. For now I have a useless slice of plastic sitting in my otherwise perfect tablet.

And the format means to backup and reset device right?!
These problems usually happen because of the wrong hosts file includings so you should delete the hosts file and reboot your device but i am sorry cause you need root. To do it use es file explorer in root explorer mode or any other root explorers you know then switch to the root directory of your phone go to system/etc/ and then you can find a file named hosts.txt there then delete that file and reboot. It should do the trick.

Bro i think i gave the whole instruction i attach some pictures you can see how to find that hosts file if you enabled root explorer in es tools section in fast access bar you will be able to delete that file and then reboot. It should do it i had that problem 3 months with my sgs3 and then i find this way and fixed it. GL
My problem is solved ! I deleted host file and I can access my google account

[Q] Update Noticifation?

My T705 is running very nicely on KK and I'm not really too bothered about updating it to Lollipop. So is there a way to get rid of the Update icon in the notification bar?
Thanks
If you are rooted you should not get the notification.
There is a guide but it is for the S3 phone, it might give you a guide.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1856632
John.
I think that means you've already downloaded the update. From memory you should have a folder named FOTA on your internal storage. Delete that to get rid of the notification.
However it would be better to actually move it to your external sd card for future use.
Also I'm sure you can disable automatic updates in settings.
The only FOTA files I could find were these, please see image attached.

Should be a normal folder. If it's not there then you probably don't have the update downloaded yet.

According to the screens (see images) the update has been downloaded.
It could be in the root of your internal storage. You may need a file manager such as es explorer that can show root folders.

I've tried a couple of file manager apps but all I can find called FOTA is what's shown above.
No they are just apps.
It must be there somewhere. It is most certainly on your internal storage.
It may not necessarily be in a folder called fota. That is coming from memory. Ota's are usually zips, but could be named anthing.
It'll just be one large file somewhere.

If it's there, which it is, it's keeping itself very well hidden. The various Root File Explorers I've used just cannot find it!!
Looks like I'll just have to put up with it.
Can an file manger with a large file finder not find it for you, if the file is 800mb+ it should show up.
Try File Manager HD

Tried that app i.e. File Manager HD but still no luck. I've tried searching by size, name etc but nothing shows up.
Have you looked in Android/data? Both internal and ex sdcard.
I eventually found it, don't ask how!! I moved it to the ext SD card and now the notification has gone. Ironically it wouldn't have installed anyway because my T705 is rooted and OTAs don't install on a rooted device.
Thanks to all.

I think it was just luck that I came across it. It was in a Folder called Data in another folder called FOTA. I moved it to my external SD card where it now resides.
And the name of the file?
It was called update.zip
