I have a windows 8, 32 bit pc. I have tried odin 309 and 307. So everytime I put a rom im it would check the md5 then freeze when I didnt even press start. I tryed this on 5 firmwares and still the same freeze. Then when I put cfautoroot in it doesnt crash. Then when I use odin 1'84 and put the firmware in it works ok and no crash. But in the text box it doesnt say checking md5. Any thoughts?

Isn't this due to the large filesize of the firmware you load in Odin?
I have the same issue on Win7 with all firmwares bigger than 1GB.
I think Odin just takes a couple of minutes to verify the MD5 and load in into memory.

Oh. When I use Odin 309 it froze. I waited 5 minutes to load and nothing. Worked fine when I had windows 7. But when I load it in an older Odin, there are no crashes. Does it work for you after checking md5!?

Yes it works. Odin sees the file, it has been md5 checked and loaded and ready to flash to a device.
Just when it's checking the program won't respond and windows will give the standard program not responding error message if you click on it, but it's all good once it's finished.
Odin 3.09 on Win7x64, so I guess Win8 is the culprit here. Can't test it though, not home atm, no Win8 available here.

I am running srf 1.2 with genocide. It has never really run good, I have had alot of buggy issues. I want to go back to stock eco5 and start over. I have the galaxy s drivers installed and when I plug my phone into the computer it recognizes it and it says removable disk f. So I know my computer sees it because I can transfer files to and from my computer.
My problem is when I put my phone into download mode and connect it to odin, odin never sees it. Also the windows wizard finds new software and installs it only when I am in download mode, but it never helps the issuee that odin can't see my phone.
Anyone have any ideas?
Did you try taking out your battery and then putting it back in then going into download mode.... also try a different cable
Take out ur battery and sd card
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
yes i can get into download mode, then i plug in my phone and odin does not see it/no yellow square with a comm number in it.
i have to take my battery out to get out of download mode, so yes i have taken my battery out.
What is the point of taking your sd card out? Can you use odin with no sd card installed?
I don't think this matters but i am using an old laptop from 2002 it is a pentium 4 with xp on it.
Every time i plug the phone in the install wizard finds new hardware and installs something. That seems a little odd if i already have the drivers installed.
any one else have any more ideas?
I've never had any luck using a old computer...were u able to use odin in the past????....use the wiki and search for hardware reset and do it basically u press the small dot right underneath the camera but look it up for full details try it worked for me....aslo maybe try a new pc

Turn USB Debugging mode on. Plug phone into computer. Do not connect USB storage or charge yet. Your computer makes the connect noise. Now go to control panel>system>device manager and look in USB or Other for Samsung Android or unknown device. Click it and hit Update Drivers and choose from Windows Update. It will take a looooong time to find all the drivers. Reboot after just for insurance. Use that same USB port for Odin. Before that try all the ports. Odin on most computers only works on the port you used to install the drivers on.
If that still doesn't work grab Heimdall and I will walk you through that.
Ok so i tried a newer computer and let the windows wizard update all the drivers and yes it did take a really long time. But Odin apears to see my phone now!! the litttle box is yellow and it says comm 3.
So i have a few questions, I am kind of scared to press the start button because this is a fairly new phone and I don't want to brick it. I watched qbkings video on how to use odin to go back to stock. It seems pretty straight forward. I also downloaded the files provided in his links: The victory 8g pit file and the spd-d700-eco5-8bg rel file.
Do I need to be in usd debugging before I shut down and boot to download mode?
So when I hit start what happens if it hangs and doesn't move, what do i do?
If it says fail what do I do?
Will my phone be screwed if does not go through? Do i unplug the usb or take the battery out.
Will I have to reflash in cwm my custom rom?
Sorry for all the questions it is just I don't think my wife would be to happy if I told her I need a new phone.
Thanks

Its pretty straight forward once u press start don't touch ur phone its almost impossible to mess it up in odin I have never had it hang.....usb debugging doesn't matter cause ur in download mode....yes u will need to root again but with all the one click methods it should be easy...qbking makes great videos literally u can follow it step by step and u should be good hope u get it working..also it only takes about 1 to 2 mins in odin

So what happens if odin hangs up? What are the procedures for unhooking the phone? Is there a process that you are supposed to do?
If you're hung up on something like "Connecting to Service" before it starts pushing anything (boot.bin, sbl.bin etc...) then it should be safe to unplug.
If it's in the middle of flashing anything and you've forgot to uncheck re-partion, you're going to be screwed.
If you get a "phone-\ ! /-computer" icon, you can re-enter download mode and try again.
Odin takes an average of 3 minutes to flash. So give it time to complete.

Thanks guys, the file I downloaded from qbkings video is the latest eco5 tar file. When it was done downloading it was a compressed rar file. I am guessing you just leave it alone and don't uncompress it, right? Just plug it into odin as a rar file.
Yea don't unzip it or mess with it place it in a spot u can find it like maybe ur desktop once u click on the "phone" tab should see the tar file click it ....make sure the f reset is uncheck and hit start
Welcome let us kno if u have any problems
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
If its a .rar file don't flash it with odin download winrar and look inside the rar file before you extract it..... if there is a .tar or. md5 file inside then yes you need to extract it and flash the tar or md5 through odin ...... if it has stuff like "system and metainf" then you flash that through clockworkmod....
Ok now I am confused again. In the video he just puts the rar file in the pda section in odin. I tried that and it has the extention tar. So odin sees it as a tar file.
I also extracted the rar file to see what was in it.
There is a boot.bin,cache.rfs,datafs.rfs,factoryfs.rfs,modem.bin,param.lfs,recovery.bin,sbl.bin and zimage.
So now I am so confused. Do I just drop the rar file in odin? Or do I use some file in the rar archive in odin? The rar archive does not have a tar file in it, so that can't work. When I select the rar file under the pda section of odin it seems like it converts it to a tar file.
So now what do I do?
[Q] odin says" Can't open the serial(COM) port." and fails to flash recovery.tar
hey,...
i am trying to root my tmobile galaxy S2 and i am in downloading mode...put recovery.tar file in PDA section and when i hit start...nothing happens and after a while i get failed notice and says " Can't open the serial(COM) port." what am i doing wrong.
Did you install the usb drivers first? If not here:

that could be the only reason i can think of that odin isn't detecting phone. Also try a different usb port on the computer, and if that doesn't work try a different cable.

Go into Kies, Tools -> Preferences, unselect "Run Samsung Kies automatically when a device is connected", save the change, close out of Kies, and then restart ODIN 3. Try flashing now.
reinstall drivers with KIES. go to troubleshoot and then you should be good to go after. also check the cable too..

I had the same problem and I fixed it by exiting from Kies software. You might get this new error "Complete(Write) operation failed". Then all you should do is just pulling your battery out and restarting odin and phone. I disables the firewall too, but I don't think the problem was firewall. Anyway mine is working well and I did it.
Hi, I'm also having the same problem. The 'Charging paused...' message kept popping up so I tried to flash a different official rom via odin (I was on official ICS). Unfortunately the flash failed and now when I try to turn on the phone the 'Firmware upgrade encountered an isuue......' message comes up. I tried connenting to kies also but can not to do so. I have hope as i can get into download mode but can't flash a rom. I got halfway once then suddenly it failed again. Your help is much appreciated. Thanks in advance.
Thank You.

The phone needs to be in download mode for Odin. And kies shouldn't be running on your PC. Go to task manager and kill any kies processes.
Download mode on the phone as I remember is power button and volume down.
?
If anyone is using Odin to flash 4.1.2, I found either Odin 3.04 or to be the only ones that worked for me.

Try different Odin versions perhaps. Uninstall Samsung drivers and install the newest kies again to reinstall them. Don't need to uninstall kies , just be sure all its processes are killed in your PC task manager.
There's nothing you can do until your phone and Odin are communicating. Try another cable, try another USB port on your computer. Last, try another computer.

Try everything I suggested. Otherwise, I'm out of ideas unfortunately.
I'm curious, what does your phone show as in device manager in pc when connected? Or is it not being seen at all?
And Y Duos? You know this is the Tmobile S2 section, right? ?
Lots of Y Duos bricked talk here as well as other links in this thread to review.

In case anyone was wondering, I was able to successfully install the stock JB tar on my SGS3 using Odin on a Windows 7 VM with an Ubuntu Host. I did some google-ing and found that some people were quite resistant to doing it. My first attempt to push the .md5 was unsuccessful. After i hit start it checked the MD5 but then wouldn't move past that and eventually failed. I then read somewhere that there's sometimes some connection issues and if you unplug and plug back in it should connect, re verify the md5 and then when you hit start it should work. Hope this helps.
Hey guys, im new with this model.
A friend apply a OTA to this phone and now the phone dont boot, in odin the EMMC firm is [] (nothing in).
Odin cant load a rom to the phone now, im ****ed, not with PIT file. Stuck in setup conection or writting NAND followed by a huge fail.
Someone with a suggestion?
Thanks.
Reflash it with the same or older ROMs, better go for the older ones.
If you get this error then your PIT is damaged
<ID:0/009> There is no PIT partition.
Then you need to flash with the .pit file,
This should be done only if, it is that much essential.
1. Connect phone to PC and see it gets detected.
2. Click on the PIT button and browse for the .PIT file in the zip
3. Click on PDA and browse for the original firmware file (
4. Ensure that all three check boxes, i.e. Auto Re-boot, Re-Partition, F. Reset Time are selected (checked). Re-Partition shoul be selected only if u have selected PIT file
See This thread to download PIT file thanks to DMJoh
I tried with PIT, but Odin show me:
Writing NAND.
FAIL!
Without PIT odin stuck at "setup conection" message.
Downloading a old rom to try. But i think the emmc die.
Thanks.
1. Was USB Debugging enabled on your device?
2. You got the latest Samsung drivers installed on your pc?
3. Did you make sure Samsung kies is not running in the system tray?
4. Make sure any antivirus or firewalls are switched off.
1 . Phone dont boot.
2. Yeah i installed that stuff yesterday.
3.kies closed.
4.no antivirus on my pc

Check out device manager whilst connected via USB in download mode, if there's any devices with yellow symbols it probably means you need the adb drivers found here
http://developer.android.com/sdk/win-usb.html
Then Odin should pick up your tab and your in business, Odin is your way out of this I believe.

Okay show me a screenshot of device manager whilst tablet is connected in download mode, also expand any sub catogeries that contain either your adb device in it or anything with samsung in it if you can...you shouldn't need to play with com ports really, if the adb USB drivers are installed and the adb device shows up in device manager Odin's meant to detect it automatically, also right click on the adb device in device manager and click properties, and go to the section where it shows driver version and screen shot that just so I can verify a couple of things...sounds to me like its not using googles adb driver but can't be sure.
