[Q] Using older version with Amazon Fire TV Remote app? - Fire TV Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am using a AFTV with the old software installed on it, it is version 51.1.0.1. Now I know Amazon has released a new app called Fire TV Remote but unlucky it only available on the latest version. Now I want to use this remote app on my Android phone but I don't want to take risk on brick my AFTV or has to re-install all my apps.
I guest the service that allows we control AFTV via phone got to exist in /System/app folder, will it work if someone extract this file and I put it on my AFTV's system/app folder?
Another question is Could I change the time zone to other country?I am in Viet Nam, but my AFTV always show time zone in US.
Thanks in advance.

[Q] ITV Player & 4od

Is there a version of ITV Player & 4od that work well with the Fire TV and the standard remote ?
I managed to install iPlayer & 5 on demand and they are working fine with the remote.
I had a version of ITV player but it didn't work well with the remote/FTV.
Not sure if it is allowed but a link to the .apk would be good also as I can't us the store as outside the UK.
Would also be interested in finding a way to get itv and 4OD on the fire tv
You can get an ITV Player Add-on for XBMC/Kodi. There was a 4od Add-on but it's broken. You could always try side loading the APK from the Play Store.
ITV Player XBMC/Kodi:
superrepo(dot)org/plugin.video.itv
4od:
play(dot)google(dot)com/store/apps/details?id=com.channel4.ondemand
apps(dot)evozi(dot)com/apk-downloader/?id=com.channel4.ondemand

When I sideload/install 4OD from the Google Play Store using the above URL's I receive an error:
785 KB/s (4701578 bytes in 5.846s)
pkg: /data/local/tmp/com.channel4.ondemand.apk
Failure [INSTALL_FAILED_MISSING_SHARED_LIBRARY]
Does anyone know how to fix this and get 4OD installed and working on the AFTV?

I don't think it would work, at least not without root.
Last year I tried to get 4OD running on my mums rooted fire hd tablet, first attempt involved removing the check from the apk and then I tried installing the missing module into the system partition, but I couldn't get it to work.

IIRC I think they're either from a Google services zip or I manually extracted them from another device and I manually installed them (it's been a while).
Finally solved it!! After following another thread for a different app but works all the same for 4oD h t t p://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=53949240
Kudos to long2know for figuring this out. I had issues having read/write access to /system the way that was shown but used the Amazon Fire Utility to push the required files to the SD card on the Fire TV and then used ES File Explorer to give root access to /system and then used the Cut/Paste feature to move the files to the relevant directories. Rebooted the Fire TV and it said 'System is updating' then went on to boot normally. I then sideloaded 4oD without a problem and ran the app which gave me all the available content.
The link for the Google Apps.zip: h t t p s://goo.im/gapps/gapps-jb-20130812-signed.zip/
I acquired the 4oD app from the Google Play Store using APK Downloader h t t p://apps.evozi.com/apk-downloader/

thank you for the tip
followed all the steps, got 4od app to work, but can not play content (wheel keeps spinning, but no video...)
I am currently in germany and have tried DNS Proxy + british VPN server...

Hi Oddball
Can you tell me what you ran ES File Explorer from ?
I used to have an android tablet which had it on but got rid so only have iPhone/iPad and windows PCs now.
Have you tried this with ITV player too ?
STV player is only any good for stuff they have exclusive to Scottish TV so no good for mainstream UK ITV unfortunately.
p.s. My AFTV is non rooted.
Thanks

You can get a fair bit on STV player. You just have to enter a Scottish postcode.

Your FireTV has to be rooted in order to install the ES File Explorer app. ITV player is available on XBMC as is BBCiPlayer but you will need a VPN if you are using them outside of the UK.

Will ES File Explorer alone, allow you to play with the root etc without a rooted box. My bad if this is the case but the original instructions that are included in my post required SU commands. I just used ES File Explorer to move things.

No. You are correct that you can only write to the system directories if you have root access.

I am SOL regarding the root route. Bought in Currys at Christmas and cannot get it rooted.
I will try hunting a working kodi 14 version of ITV player but the last one I tried failed unless anyone can point me at a working release ?
Also I'll give STV another go with a postcode see what happens.
Thanks

xbmc problems with genesis and other video streaming

hi guys i recently got my gf an amazon fire tv now the device isnt rooted but i managed to get spmc installed fine
the plugin itself loads fine but other plugins such as genesis and mashup have real issues 1 issue is that genesis opens up but once i click movies and then go to click 1 of the categories it says loading and just as quick then stops loading at stays at the same menu i was at
i use xbmc on many devices and never had any issues was wondering if anyone could help me solve it or better yet upload there xbmc data so i could restore it to mine using the amazon fire utility app any help would be great thanks
Make sure you are using the new URL: http://fusion.tvaddons.ag
Lambda just updated Genesis to version 3.1.0. It is super fast with new HD sources.

TVAddons released a specific android version called TVMC which will load all that for you automatically. Its still good to learn the inner workings of XBMC though.

Easiest method for copying XBMC setup on fire tv to fire tv stick?

Hello all,
I have been working on my setup on the fire tv device for some time. I have XBMC customized and configured for my sources/shares and chosen add-ons. I just received my fire tv stick and would like to basically copy the setup to the stick.
For some reason I was never able to get the apps like adbFire to work when I tried Backup XBMC / Restore XBMC (now Kodi) so I was wondering what the easiest way to mirror the setup would be? Is there a config file that i could copy from an install on one device to an install on the other that would setup everything? I am thinking that would probably be "too easy" but it might work for the shares/sources.
Look forward to the responses. Thanks all.

Install ES File Explorer. Turn on Remote Manager (basically, it creates an FTP server on the FireStick). Go to the FireTV, enter that info. Go to this thread that I wrote and look at /9
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2793823
Note, if you are using kodi, the folder should be org.xbmc.kodi.

Hi - I was wondering if the process that was described allowed you to mirror image the stick? thank you in advance for the reply - I was also looking for a way to mirror the stick from one to the other to avoid making a complete setup for the multiple sticks I am looking to purchase for the multiple TV's in my house.
Thanks
It should work for as many devices as you want. I use mysql library and exported it then the sources appear on all my devices running the same version of kodi.
I prefer this for several reasons but you need a computer that's on 24/7 to run mysql server.

[APK request] BBC iPlayer

Hi, any chance someone could post this apk? Want to see if it works on the nexus player.
thanks!
http://www.uktvapps.com/ , although I'm not sure if it's the same version you get from the Amazon.co.uk store: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Media-Applications-Technologies-Ltd-iPlayer/dp/B009SPY7PW
yeah that is not relevant to what i am looking for at all. thanks anyway.
was hoping someone could extract the apk from their firetv. I've tried doing it myself in the past but i'm too dumb so it never worked.
I sideloaded iPlayer but it doesn't work, it wants to be connected to your Amazon account
was searching to see if this had been tried.. Bummer..
No hope of installing the amazon store ?? Tieing an amazon account.. and retrying ??

Yes I extracted it
I downloaded bbc.iplayer.android_4.53.0.1-45300001_minAPI16(armeabi-v7a,x86)(nodpi)_apkmirror .com.apk from apkmirror .com, obviously, (remove the space before .com) and I use a UK vpn (ExpressVPN, I live in the US..) and it works great! (also, I made an account... duh) Just need to use a mouse, or Mouse Toggle, or Cetusplay because it's an Android TV apk, and not the Fire TV one. I'm currently trying to patch the Fire TV version TheFixItMan provided (thanks!!) to unlink it from the Amazon Appstore by installing the apk on a rooted phone of mine and using Lucky Patcher as described here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/fire-tv/help/bbc-iplayer-sideloaded-app-owned-error-t3315474
I'll post a link to it if I'm successful :fingers-crossed:

Thanks for the .apk file. It installs and launches without any problem but an Amazon UK account has to be linked to the application. So it doesn't work with e.g. Amazon Germany account. Maybe I should change my country to UK, download the app from Amazon appstore and try it again. Even if it works, it will probably not work any longer, as soon as I change the country to Germany.
I rebuilt the app without license verification by using Lucky Patchers. After opening the app it instantly crashes..

Thanks but your version crashes after opening the app. I have successfully installed my own rebuild. First I edited the original .apk file you provided with APK Editor. I just changed app name and package name to something different without changing the length. Then I compiled the new .apk file and removed license verification with Lucky Patchers. I can login but when I click on a show I get an error. It says "Something went wrong loading this programme. Error code 02001".

Same error message here. I have tried two different VPN services and one Smart DNS service. None of them worked. Each time the same error message. The only iPlayer on the Firestick that will 'work', is the web version. Not the most convenient way to get to whatever you want to watch, but it's doable. Download Firefox for Firestick, sign up for a BBC account, start your VPN and you're good to go. It still would be so much more convenient if there would be a working app on the Firestick. Is anybody still working on this, by any chance? Thanks!
In my case the "normal" Android Version works on the Fire TV Box 1st Gen. As mentioned by another user before, u have to use a mouse or in my case a bluetooth keyboard with trackpad to navigate around. But it's much stabler than the workaround with firefox and the web version.
I have a fire stick 2nd generation. I will try your option and see if that works better. May I ask where you got that app from?
Thanks!

Go back one page and read what I wrote! (What I wrote was apkmirror...)
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=77310494&postcount=9
*THIS WORKS* I just checked to make sure, and yes, you can use the newest regular Android (phone and tablet) version of BBC Iplayer currently available on your FireTV, bbc.iplayer.android_4.56.2.2-45620002_minAPI16.apk as of today. The one I mentioned on the first page is outdated now. Just search for it on apkmirror. Remember, you will need to use a UK VPN service (I use Express VPN, and East London location) and a mouse or mouse emulator app (Mouse Toggle or CetusPlay) you may also need an app that controls screen orientation... I can't remember if you need it or not for Iplayer, but I use Set Orientation v1.1.4 all the time. Good luck.
Now go smoke me a kipper!

This worked perfectly for me, thank you very much.
Would you be kind enough to share the process/program you used for renaming? I would like to do the same thing for the ITV hub, and if it isn't too difficult, learn to do it myself.

Thank You - I'm still bashing my head against a wall with this after trying for nearly a week now....
I've tried renaming with APK edit and also with APK tool and every time I put my edited APK's on the Fire TV I get error: new app store version required.
Your modified APK works great so I know it is something I am either doing or not doing but I'm at a loss.
I've also tried using lucky patcher on files from APKedit and APKtool but it doesn't change the error, I've tried resigning in APKtool, I've tried both Full and 'Common' methods in APKedit. I've also tried putting my modified APK's on both gen 2 and 4k versions of both Fire Sticks and Fire TV's but I get the same error on everything. Your modified APK works perfectly on all devices. I have also tried this on different APK's including originals from ITV, All4, my5 and BBC.
Any suggestions for what I maybe doing wrong or what I can try?
Thank You very much in advance.

Firestick and a preconfigured Kodi?

So I'm wondering if it is possible to install Kodi on a firestick, Configure Kodi with add-ons, then once I have Kodi the way I like it, copy it to my computer and then upload it to another Firestick and another and another ect.....?
Just use "ares wizard" find a build you like and just keep installing it. It would be easier than backup and restore but areas allows you to restore backups.
