Original DE recovery.img? - Verizon Galaxy Note 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Anyone have a copy? I don't need it right away, everything is running great and I have several twrp backups on pc. But I totally forgot to try to back it up before twrp and root. Just want as much stock stuff/backups as possible.

Stock DE recovery is the same as the CE version...it is in one of the firmware threads...

Thx. I figured but was making sure. Got the Odin tar and pulled it from there. U happen to know what files I need to remove to make the Odin tar flash able for DE devices?

The CE tar would have to have the bootloaders removed to keep from locking the un-locked bootloader on the DE. The software version is named differently on the two versions...not sure of the actual difference is (other than the bootloaders)...

Thx again. I also just realized there is a stock restore with no bootloader. I am not a complete idiot, I saw the post in development section. It looked like they were not really up, cause in my tapatalk it was messed up, but the actual post has live links, just took me opening it to the actual Web page to find them. Thx again, glad I posted this in Q&A instead of general since I messed up. Lol.

Telus Model - SGH-i317M

i got pretty good at flashing stuff for my galaxy nexus, but now as a note II owner I feel like a total noob.
i have the Telus Model - SGH-i317M. is that the same model for At&T ... all At&T flashing/rooting guides would work for me?
can I flash the international firmware? by doing so, will that mean I get official samsung updates faster?
cheers,

I would also backup your modem with twrp recovery, so if you run into problems, you can just restore. Also some roms are based on the Canadian note 2 as well.

Does the Canadian version work fine regardless if the Canadian carrier is Telus or Rogers?
Is cf-auto root a recovery tool? If so, only 1 of those 3 would be needed right.... Because no sense in 3 recovery tools? Any recommendations please which would be the best one for me?
Many thanks

Cf-auto root roots your phone, it doesn't install any recoveries. Here's the thread, just download the Canadian version and flash with Odin (yes it works with telus/bell/rogers) . http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=33854391
Then, if you want to flash custom roms then you need to install either Cwm or twrp recovery. Recommend twrp.
You can install twrp by installing goo manager via play store or download the file to flash with Odin.

After you're rooted, if you install goo manager, it can install twrp automatically. I'm guessing there must be some variance to have a Canadian version.
Just search for nandroid backup for twrp recovery which is a complete backup. Lots of guides and YouTube videos if you search for it or someone can point you to one.

No problem. Well first I would only install firmwares that are in the i317 Devs section.
To answer your question, root > install recovery >do a nandroid backup!>install custom roms
I wouldn't rush into things though before your really comfortable doing so and understand it.

Custom roms are firmwares. There are some roms that are ported from international firmwares and made to work for our version of note 2. All the compatible roms/firmwares are in the AT&T dev's section here, just make sure you read all the instructions and you can always ask them the question in they're thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1874
In any case, I would do a lot more research and reading. There are bunch of guides and tutorials.

I just started playing with the Galaxy Note 2's as well this weekend (all Rogers i317m). Rooted 5 of them, and installed custom roms on 3 of them. All in all much easier than jailbreaking iphones. That said, this forum has been a wealth of information. I've tried a few roms and really like the International Stock Rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2016575. I will try Clean Rom next.
This is what I've done, and it's been a snap :
1. Put your phone into Odin Download mode, and root the phone using ODIN and the cwm6-root-note2.tar file (clockworkmod-there's some youtube videos on how to do this)
2. Download the custom rom you wish to flash to your phone (eg download directory)
3. Boot your phone into CWM recovery mode
4. Make a BACKUP rom of your existing phone (good for recovery, if you didn't back up all your contacts, sms, apps, etc....this is like TIMEMACHINE and saves to your phone's CWM directory).
5. Erase / Wipe Data (this does not erase your photos/videos, just basically the OS).
6. Flash ROM from ZIP (from your download directory)
7. Erase cache
8. Reboot to your new Custom Rom!
9. If you don't like the new Custom Rom, you can always boot back into CWM and restore from the BACKUP rom.
10. I highly recommend looking into Titanium Backup and SMS Backup, as well as syncing your contacts to GMAIL.
Good luck

Hi there,
I'm new to this, but my question is how to I return my phone to stock, I had someone root and add a rom to it and now I have lost my lte radio..but this person tells me all is fine and that I'm completely stock and just rooted, this may be true but the phone hardly works now..
info:

sgh-i317m
but when I check my phone know it says its a samsung sgh-i317 now instead of sgh-i317m, this have made me believe that the phone maybe was rooted with n7100 firmware.
all I want is the phone to be completely stock as if I have just pulled it out of the box
I dont want it rooted or any sort of rom, I need all stock files because I have no backup of any sort also from what I can tell I may need samsung drivers and Odin I have no idea which I need or where to acquire the correct files...
please help

I would flash the Telus stock which is root injected from this thread. You may need to set the csc to Telus. Flash with odin. You can easily remove the root if everything works.

Lte problem

Hi everyone, I made a big mistake rooting my nexus 7 lte. Now I have the tablet rooted but onto the system image of the wifi model and no possibility to revert!
If someone have the same model succesfully rooted with the TWRP recovery maybe could make a bakup of the system and post here. I could try to perform a restore. Is it possible or I'm wrong? Sorry I'm a little noob!!!

W03 Slim Rom V7 - Boot Loop

I am trying to install the W03 Slim ROM V7 on my Tmobile Galaxy Note 3 through Philz recovery and I am getting stuck in a boot loop.
These are the steps I tried
1. Used Chainfire's root method to root Kitkat 4.4.2 (which was updated through kies). Used the N9005 and not N900T like the instructions asked me to
2. Flashed Philz Recovery through Odin
3. Copied the ROM and Gapps to my Phone.
4. Rebooted into recovery
5. Wiped Data/Factory reset, Install from Zip, wipe cache, wipe dalvik and reboot.
This is where I get stuck. The phone boots with these words on the top left, "Recovery not enforcing seandroid" or something along those lines and keeps booting. I booted back to Recovery and 'Re'wiped' the phone/did a factory reset, but nogo
So I downloaded the right stock firmware from Sammobile, installed through Odin and repeated the steps and still the same issue.
What am I doing wrong? I made sure I am flashing hltetmo (for TMo Note 3).
Correct me if im wrong but if you flashed the new bootloader I don't think you can go back to 4.3 roms anymore.

Sounds like a Recovery issue to me. Please look one more time and make sure if you used PHILZ TOUCH that you did in fact flash 6.19.3 HLTE. and not HLTETMO. Im also using philz and no problems flashing. However before it was known that this was the version to use, I did loop at the same point when experimenting with other versoins. Also, check your MD5 and verify that it is a good download.... maybe re download just for gits and shiggles.

Had the same bootloop issue when I just tried it out. I updated my bootloader when I updated to stock KK through odin. I am assuming by 4.3 you mean the bootloader on SlimRom is the 4.3 bootloader even though it is a 4.4.2 rom?

Thanks everyone. It does look like it is the bootloader issue.
How do we determine if a particular ROM supports a particular bootloader version? At least the ROMs I have sort of explored and wanted to try, dont mention that anywhere. Or maybe they use some geek term to reference that but I dont understand it. How do noobs like me determine the bootloader version and compatibility of a particular ROM (before flashing and finding out the hard way)???

[Q&A] How To: Custom Recovery and Root

Q&A for How To: Custom Recovery and Root
Some developers prefer that questions remain separate from their main development thread to help keep things organized. Placing your question within this thread will increase its chances of being answered by a member of the community or by the developer.
Before posting, please use the forum search and read through the discussion thread for How To: Custom Recovery and Root. If you can't find an answer, post it here, being sure to give as much information as possible (firmware version, steps to reproduce, logcat if available) so that you can get help.
Thanks for understanding and for helping to keep XDA neat and tidy!
DE or CE
You might want to make it more obvious that this is only for the Developer Edition.
For example:
Developer Edition ONLY
Or best would be in the title.
Just to help avoid confusion.
Thanks.

For the initial installation of TWRP (custom recovery) on your Note 4 DE you need the .tar md5 file. Download that file to your computer (not phone) and flash that file using ODIN. The .zip file is the same TWRP recovery that can be placed on your internal or external sd card to be used after your initial installation of TWRP using ODIN. The .zip file can be flashed from your phone in TWRP recovery mode. Again, for initial installation of TWRP you need the .tar md5 file.

Is it possible they sent me a consumer edition, not a dev edition? I bought it directly from samsung, and the invoice says "dev edition".

Thanks for putting everything in a pretty package.

Are you still having problems? Here's a quick check list that may help you if you're still having problems"
-Make sure you have activated Developer Options and the phone is in debugging mode
-Make sure you have the most recent drivers for the Note 4
-I would download the .tar md5 Verizon version of TWRP again
-After putting your phone in Download mode and connected to your PC, make sure ODIN recognizes your phone
-Make sure the "AP" box is check in ODIN
-Designate the newly downloaded Verizon TWRP tar file
-Select Start and wait until you get a PASS or FAIL indication in ODIN (just above the ID:COM box on the ODIN screen) before you disconnect your phone. The whole process can take several minutes.

Turns out that even thought ODIN said FAIL, TWRP was in-fact installed. FYI: I'm running Windows 7 x32 from an iMac running Mavericks and vmware fusion - never had a problem like this with my S3 or Note 2 - but this may have been a factor. Anyway, flashed SuperSU in TWRP as instructed an voila!!

Did I make a mistake that's unfixable?
Hello,
I recently received my Verizon Note 4 DE. I was following the video posted on Youtube by XDA and I followed it exactly the way that the video was presented. So by doing that, I ran the CF Auto-root before anything else. After my phone was rooted, I then installed TWRP and backed up everything. Looking at the forums though, it was highly suggested that I install TWRP first and do a backup of my phone BEFORE I had root. Then proceed to root the phone and back it up yet again. Is it possible to go into SuperSU app and do the Full unroot option so that I can make a backup of my phone without root being done? Or is it pretty much a lost cause since I have already done it to begin with so it wouldn't be an original image regardless at this point. I guess more or less do I need to be concerned about it potentially in the future? I don't ever plan on running the phone without root access which was the reason why I bought the DE in the first place not to mention that I still have my Unlimited Data. I upgraded from a Retail Galaxy S3 that I unlocked and rooted previously but didn't really keep up on the developments after it went to a universal rom update for Cyanogenmod for that particular phone. Any help or recommendations would be much appreciated.

Any help or recommendations would be much appreciated.

Sir, are you in the right forum. This forum is for the Verizon Note 4. The method of rooting that you explain will not work on the Verizon S4 that I am aware of.
Yes, I have a Verizon Note 4. Chain fire released a version for that phone as well.

Ok, well that is in need news...the new root method for the Note 4 Developer Edition. But to answer your question about uninstalling SuperSU and then making a backup, I don't know of any reason why you couldn't do that. I am curious about the new root method though. I have to check this out. Thanks.

Can you send me the YouTube link because I can't find it in YouTube, not for the Verizon model anyway.

Hello.
Sorry I was at work when I replied to the initial message and didn't have the links or anything on me. I actually did utilize the T-Mobile Youtube Video link by XDA. The process is exactly the same as shown in that video except with a different CF-Auto-Root tar file built for the Verizon Note 4 Developer's Edition.
On Chainfire's website autoroot. chainfire .eu - Sorry too new to post actual links currently.
You will look for this particular line for the Verizon Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Developer's Edition. The File is around 27-28 megs in size. Filename will be CF-Auto-Root-trltevzw-trltevzw-smn910v.zip
samsung SM-N910V trltevzw trltevzw APQ8084 apq8084 KTU84P.N910VVRU1ANI1 4.4.4 28 632 736 Download 07a77f8ab23d3c2366a33020fce6afec 6 670
Inside of the zip is your typical CF set-up with the latest version of Odin and the proper CF-Auto-Root tar file for the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 Developer's Edition. You still need to download TWRP 2.8.1.1 separately.
I hope that gives you enough information and thanks for the response on being able to unroot my device and make an original back-up as well.
Thank You.

manbat, does it work as stated?

[Basebands|Bootloaders]Lollipop OF5/OG5/OJ6/OK1, Marshmallow PB5/PC1/PD1/PE1/PE2

I know some of you may be confused as to where to go to get these, but here you are.
I know some of you have come to the conclusion on your own that using Marshmallow firmware (bootloader) PB5/PC1 on a Lollipop based ROM, or even AOSP results in WiFi and camera issues. Here are Odin flashable firmwares for you to easily flash between versions.
NOTE: Basebands have no effect on WiFi or camera on Lollipop or AOSP ROMs.
NOTE2: Baseband PE1 and later require Odin 3.11.1.
Lollipop firmware/basebands are everything before PXX:
N910P firmware/basebands
NOTE: PE2 baseband wouldn't flash with Odin 3.11.1. I had to use Odin 3.10.7.
Awesome thanks Freeza

@freeza thank you for posting that! I can promise that it was more needed than anyone is willing to admit.
I will admit that I got really excited when I saw that you had started a new thread because I thought I was about to go Beast Mode on Marshmallow. Lol

Use AP. If the tar contains a .pit file then that will take care of the partitions and flash everything the way it needs to be. If it doesn't containa .pit file like in this case, the first way to try is AP. 9 times out of ten that is the mode you want to use.
Hi all i tried on my note 4 sprint
Using sac_23 rom..rom is cool
I confirm new firmware hv both issues ..ie wifi and camera focus.
Flashed back ok1 firmware

Sorry for my ignorance, but what's the difference between the PD1 firmware and PD1 baseband? If I am on a PC1 ROM can I flash both via Odin? Thanks.

So just to be sure, is all I have to do is flash one of these bootloaders with Odin for it to be unlocked, or are there steps I need to do first? Running the OTA Marshmallow on Sprint now.

The bootloader you have isn't locked to root. There are terms you may be referring to: reactivation lock, factory reset protection, carrier unlock or root?
These are stock bootloaders; shared/posted to flash in Odin to go back and forth between lollipop and marshmallow with ease. They're ideal for those that have TWRP backups for lollipop and marshmallow; saves redundant steps. Baseband may also be necessary for those going to CM at least for now.
What are you trying to do?
Edit: OK1 bootloader is now linked in OP. Removed redundant link.

I get this confused too. What is the difference between Baseband, and Firmware?
My assumption is that firmware includes both Bootloader and the baseband.
Baseband just updates your modem and leaves your custom recovery intact?
Is this correct?

Right. These don't replace the recovery.
The ones labeled firmware are bootloader only.

Are updating the firmware / bootloader / recovery the same?
I guess my question is more what is the difference between bootloader and recovery? I thought they were basically the same.

Bootloader is responsible for booting the various modes like system, recovery and download mode. It changes with each update and also impacts certain features so compatibility must be maintained. The bootloader can also block unofficial flashes and mounting partitions, if locked to those. Since our bootloader isn't locked, we can flash custom recovery, root, mount partitions to modify and even flash a custom ROM.
As you know, recovery has a purpose for flashing updates and wiping cache partitions or factory reset. Custom recovery gives you more freedom to flash custom flashes to customize your device. By definition, it allows for recovering your device if you soft brick it.

Thanks. I appreciate the dumbed-down explanation. I know enough to be dangerous, but like to understand the details, even though I've been flashing since I bought my first Android phone - Evo 4G
