[Q] Fingerprint Scanner problem - Galaxy Tab S Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

New to Samsung. I am running stock. After registering my fingerprint and unlocking the tab one time using the fingerprint scanner it has not worked since. I have tried to use it to unlock the tab at least 10 times and it fails each time. Every time it tells me to"make sure I am using the full pad". I try rescanning several times and get the same reply. I have done a search and could find a answer to my problem?

Slowly swipe over the scanner. Works reliably for me.

The 'mistake' I made when first setting it up was to try to carefully scan the same way when registering my fingerprint.
When registering swipe your finger all kinds of different ways. The full pad, more just the tip of your finger. Rolled to one side and then to the other. Swipe faster and slower, finger tipped at different angles, etc.
Now it should work very reliably.

Anyone else having trouble with the finger print reader?

I feel like I need to watch a tutorial to check what the appropriate swipe is. Sometimes I get it a bunch of times in a row. Sometimes I can't get at all for over 10 tries
My first try I had a similar experience so i deleted my fingerprint profile. I then, redid it and i used for instance my thumb and rotated it slightly each time with the swipes, i can now get it open with ine swipe most times now. Its working much better. By rotating i mean keep,it in same perspective just angle it to left swipe down, then straight again, then angle to right, hope that helps.

[TIP] Fingerprintreader

I stumble upon a semi-interesting thing when I was about to set up the fingerprint reader.
I always register the same finger 2-3 times to increase accuracy.
When I performed the process in my new Edge+ I saw that every time I logged in with an already enrolled finger to the menu for fingerprints, the phone highlighted one of the already enrolled prints thus gave an indication of which of the already enrolled prints that it matched my print to.
Difficult to explain, I´ll attach a few prints but thinking it could be helpful if you want to increase accuracy and want to update an already enrolled print that´s not accurate.

I read this a few times and I really can't reproduce what you are trying to explain. The image links you have provided don't help at all, sorry.

it recognises that you have already input that finger that's why it's so accurate it won't do it with a different finger

What he's trying to say is, when you go to the Settings where you enroll your fingerprints, if all of your fingerprints (out of 4) are already enrolled, when you press your finger to the home button, the menu highlights which finger (out of 4 enrollment) just touched the home button. So what he is saying is, we can use this feature to see if the fingerprint has been registered correctly or not and hence we can enroll same finger from different angles in multiple enrollment slots so that it enhances the detection process for one finger.
Frankly, I think the fingerprint sensor is already very quick and precise. Also, its wiser to register the fingerprint from different angle while enrolling one finger is much better than enrolling same fingerprint in multiple slots.
Nice tip op. Would never think to check it that way, but it is a good way to check if your noticing that it's often hard to unlike your phone with your finger print.

fingerprint not detecting sometimes

OP3 finger print is really fast but sometimes I just can't it to get it work, once it doesn't work it'll not work at all and then I have to unlock using Pattern
Does anyone have this issue?
I found that if on lockscreen there is a lock symbol it won't open by fingerprint. If there is a fingerprint symbol then it works
Not to worry!! While you are registering a finger..... u have to completely register each corner of the finger print.....only then it works from however u put ur finger on it!! I experienced it many times too!!!
Just registry 1 finger 2 times...thats all
But it works always except when there's a lock icon on lock screen.
If there's a fingerprint scanner symbol it works 100%
it wont work with wet finger, wipe your hand
When you register a finger, you have to put all kinds of different parts of the fingertip on different parts of the fingerprint scanner, so that the scanner "knows" your finger in all possible positions. That is what the lenghty procedure is for.
Yeah I've done all kinds of way, rolled it, left, right, top, down.
Does anyone know why there's a lock symbol sometimes on lock screen instead of fingerprint symbol

Fingerprint Problem May Be?
Hi,
Sometimes my fingerprint is not recognized by fingerprint scanner. I have registered two fingerprints for the same finger. Still sometimes it does not recognize.
Is it because still some area is left which is not recognized? When it is not recognized and i put my center of finger on scanner, it recognizes.
Is it fine? Also is it fine if it doesn't recognizes if only a part of sensor is touched by finger. I am using fingerprint sensor first time so little bit skeptical.
I think i am testing it too much just to confirm if it is fine and somehow able to make it fail at some area of my finger. :silly:
Please help.
Please help me guys.

It requires pin after a reboot, then you should be able to use the fingerprint reader until the next reboot.

Its because of security or you can use require pin on boot and it will take bit long for booting
But what about the lock symbol and finger print symbol on the lockscreen, has no one observed this yet?
I'm unable to attach pictures as in XDA website to attach images it is asking me url

Been using OP3 FP scanner from last one week. I have 4 Fingers registered it works without any problem. Clean you FPS
I've been having an issue where I would take the phone out of my pocket and the fingerprint scanner wouldn't even vibrate when I touched it. After trying several settings I started putting my phone in my pocket with the screen facing out instead of towards my leg. I think the fingerprint scanner would get activated while rubbing up against my thigh. So far I can tell it's working fine. Everytime I take it out of my pocket it recognizes my finger right away. Also I noticed less battery drain.

I saw it. Often when i unlock using fingerprint the phone gets locked automatically 1 second after unlocking, than the symbol is a lock and i have to use the pattern. Then there is a text something like "For improvement of safety, a pattern is required" really annoying

Slow fingerprint recognition (Solved)

It doesn't matter how you enrol your fingerprint, just enable/activate "Touch sensitivity" from the setting.
NB: You don't even need to place your finger in the sensor for a long time. just wait for the green light to appear on the screen and then immediately move away your finger. Voila! Unlocked!!
It works like a charm, at least for me.
I second this one. The animation can be a little slow tho. Thanks!
I can confirm that this is the best workaround yet to be found. Even while registering just one finger.
Thanks a lot buddy.
Thanks a ton man. Working like charm. Same here only a finger registered.
thank you. the best solution. i only registered one finger and it opens very fast also i am using nano glass.

Any solution for fast unlocking

Hi there
I just switched from a Asus Zenfone 5z which has a dedicated fingerprint sensor. So one touch and you ard on home screen.
Now the fingerprint sensor on Note 10 + is slow, also the fact that one has to first click the side key and then put the finger on the screen and seemingly wait for 2 sec.
It is nowhere near as fast as the zenfone 5z.
Have you guys got any better solution or idea to unlock it fast.
Thank you for your time.

You don't exactly have to turn on phone to use fingerprint reader.
If you know the position of fingerprint reader then putting your finger there would turn on and unlock phone. But that would be if you can get it on right position. If not it would tell you and then you can readjust as it will then show you.
Other option would be to have always on display and would show position of fingerprint reader.
You can also double tap to wake up phone as well. Then go through same process.
Hope some others could add more but these has been what I've found out with my usage.

Enable the gesture "lift to wake"
Enable "always on display" so that you always see the finger print location.
What ever finger you use most for the finger print, scan it for 2 spots out of the 4 available. So I have my left thumb for 1, right pointer for 2, and right Thumb for 3 and 4. My right thumb is now always solidly fast.

1. Please clarify : Do you mean to register the same right thumb twice to increase accuracy of the right thumb, as that is what I mostly use.
2. Currently always on display is set as tap to show.
Does making it always show have any significant reduction in battery.
And that you for your time, you are very helpfull.

Didn't even know that I had to just press the locked screen.
Also thank you for recommending the lift to wake up gesture, has increased the speed a lot.
Still wondering if I can use NFC to keep it unlocked as it is always kept on a phone stand.
Many thanks for your time.

You can use Smart lock Trusted places under settings-lock screen to keep phone unlocked. You just have to turn on phone then just swipe to go into phone without password but it will lock after a certain timeframe if not used.

I do know about Smart Lock but prefer not to use it as keeping the GPS on does feed the location data to other apps as well, not something I prefer to give away.
Thank you for the recommendation though.
You can register your face as well. It works really fast with lift to wake up gesture.
Smart lock can be used without GPS on, it uses a trusted wifi network to keep the phone unlocked or, if you have one a bluetooth speaker...
Don't need GPS at all...
Another vote for smart lock but with a wearable like a wear os watch. I pretty much never have to unlock my phone.
In case helpful to someone else, I enabled the increase touch sensitivity setting under Display settings and the fingerprint seems to work much quicker as I don't have to press down harder.

#1 YES
#2 It's a 4300mah battery, the AOD doesn't even dent it.
Happy to help!
I have AOD set to always on, and it is super easy to unlock.
I pick up the phone, hold my thumb on the sensor and it is unlocked instantly. I don't see how it could get any better than that!

Hi, I did turn it on after reading your post, enabled my location with GPS off and wifi connected but it doesn't work.
Is there anything special I need to do in this regard.
Thanks

Yes I turned ut on as well as the phone comes with a factory applied screen protector and that is what that setting seems to be for. Should have been on by default.
