if your bootloader is unlocked then you do not need to backup stock kernel. when you flash rom zip it will flash kernel too. also nandroid backup does not require you to backup anything else as far as i remember. it backs up everything.
OK thanks. Does anybody had a screenshot of the stock software info? It looked like I was not on stock kernel.

restoring a nandroid backup will restore the kernel you had when you made the backup. If you don't have one with stock kernel and rom look here >>

Oh man. Such confusion on this thread. A nandroid backs up your system, data, and boot partitions. The boot partition contains the kernel. You can also choose to backup the cache and android secure partitions, but by default, these aren't backed up.
Restore your stock backup to restore the kernel.

Top get out of the bootloop, and enter recovery, do this:
Hold down the power button and vol up until your phone reboots (around 20 seconds). AS SOON AS THE SCREEN GOES BLACK switch from vol up to vol down. That will put you into fastboot. Choose hboot from there using your power button and navigating with the volume buttons (you don't have to navigate for this one, it's on top). Then you will see an option for recovery. Navigate to that, and flash your stock backup.

I was having a problem flashing a ROM someone talked me into flashing Twarp I was on cwm. I did it now I am stuck with twarp that the touchscreen does not work so I can not flash nothing I want cwm back help

When the touchscreen doesn't work the first time, just hold power to restart phone, then power, vol+, and home to get into recovery again.
Also, which ROM are you on? I personally use madmack's Twrp that is hacked and no touch problems and I am on CM10.2.

use the freegee app you used to flash cwm ( if that's the one you chose when you used the freegee app to unlock) and hit restore from back up and it will restore the cwm recovery.

I think that might depend if he can boot up. Freegee is an app and installed like one and not flashed. Also, if he isn't on stock, freegee doesn't work. Hopefully, he followed rule 1...make a back up.

if he can boot his phone it works even when your not on stock. no you cant use freegee to flash a recovery if your not on stock but you can restore from back up with it, i had to do it myself to get cwm recovery back when i was non stock.

you need to flash the boot.img from your backup for the phone to boot properly. if you're s-off then it should have done it by itself but i'm going with that you're s-on so you need to flash the boot.img from your pc.
and fastboot erase cache ater the boot.img flash, to prevent boot issues
Thanks all for help it all works now

Hi all, just have a quick question regarding my nandroid backup and restore. Every time I try to restore a nandroid backup of my phone, mostly everything works, however, Amazon App Store will stop allowing me to download any apps at all saying that there is a problem with the connection to the internet error (with 3g or wifi) and my swiftkey will popup in the notification drawer saying that there aren't anymore language packs and when trying to install the language packs back on, they don't download. either. WEIRD thing is, the Play Store still works properly. Only those two apps have issues. Any idea what is wrong with my nandroid backup or restore?
Phone Config:
Galaxy S 4 M919V (Wind Mobile)
Wind Stock 4.4.2 VLUFNB5 Factory Image/Kernel
Rooted with CF-Auto-Root-jfltetmo-jfltetmo-sghm919.tar
Recovery openrecovery-twrp-2.7.0.1-jfltecan
Knox counter tripped 0x1
Anyone see a problem with my config?
Troubleshooting done already
Changed recovery to philz_touch_6.26.6-jflte.tar, tried backup and restore... SAME problem.
Tried Uninstalling and Re-installing apps (with TiBu and Settings App Manager)... still same problem.
Any help would be appreciated.
Try wiping delvik and cache in recovery then reboot. Or you can also try to clear data and cache in those 2 apps and reboot.

Could it be possible that my recoveries aren't completely compatible with my stock firmware? Possibly, a bad flash of recovery? or could it be that the bootloader is screwing something up since the knox bit is tripped? Even when trying to use skipsoft unified android toolkit for my s4, there are backup options that are disabled...
I'd like to get to the bottom of this because not having a proper backup of my system is kicking my ocd's a$$
Try flashing to completely stock and start over

Also attempted that and the same issue. Another thing is, Swiftkey is the actual paid version from app store, so the possibility of having a corrupt apk is slim to none.
Could it possibly be a problem with those specific apps (swiftkey and amazon app store) in which they dont nandroid backup properly or with these custom recoveries that dont backup everything needed for those 2 apps?

I was just thinking...When you changed from TWRP to Philz, did you use Philz to recover your TWRP backup? From my understanding it isnt possible to use a different recovery to restore a backup.

Try deleting your google account and re-installing it.
system/accounts/google tap on your account and remove it.
turn off and do a bat pull
wait abt a min and power up and go to the google account and install selecting existing account and see if the play store will work for you.
good Luck!

If you changed to Philz while you were already having the issue with the apps and turned around and made a backup, that backup would still have the issues. Lol. Try deleting the apk files and re download the apk

Well, I ended up finding that CWM_6.0.4.7_Touch_GT-I9505 worked out for me using i9505 AOSP Pre-Release from Broodplank. No problems with backup or restore most of the time. I did encounter Swiftkey having the no languages installed problem, but it manages to install the languages again without error, so all is good.
I think I have a problem. I experimented with several roms. Maximus, CM and stock. But now, everytime installed a rom the screen freeze on several moments. After that its during a while when I can boot again. I think I did everything right but nothing solved it. Now I'm on stock rom in this topic: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2562749. Can somebody help me out please?
Think I have a new problem. After the last shutdown, it wont boot anymore

Hello There!
I'm an idiot. :crying:
I went to follow some steps to flashing a rom on my device.
Then when I got to the TWRP Part that says to factory reset device, I accidentally chose Wipe Data for I didn't see the slidable "slide to factory reset" on the bottom. While it is wiping my data, it restarted and only got stuck wuth the samsung logo. Anyone also experienced this?
If so, I'm gladly accepting help from all of you. thanks!
Attached is a photo of the error
Can you get back into recover? If so just do the wipes in the right order and flash the ROM. Otherwise I don't know what to do next.

You are using TWRP 2.8.0 right? If you can install version 2.6.3 using Obin. Then do the wipes and install. There is a bug with 2.8.0 and above for wiping the caches which is why the factory resets are failing and why you cannot install a ROM. Tell me if that works or not. O, to get the older version look through the last 10 or so pages for TWRP for are device. There are several links to the old version
