Download:

Connect device in fastboot mode (blue LED).
Open Command prompt and type:
fastboot flash system system_xps_prerooted_63fw.img
This will give you root immediatly after reboot!
A nicer way will come soon. But this should solve first problems

I know roughly what you are talking about. I know command prompt, although I never used fastboot, as I only owned X10 (until I dropped it and USB port snapped ), so never had to/wanted to unlock bootloader this way. But I want to learn, that's why I am reading all this now, and I need to ask about something I am not sure of.
Just go through the unlock bootloader process and then you will know what fastboot is
After that just type my comamnd with my file in the same directory and you will be done.

If I were you I would wait till I get ICS on the phone then unlock the bootloader and root the phone.
Quick question. It just wonders me. Sony "supports" unlocking bootloader, which is more dangerous than root. Why rooting is not supported then? Is it because we could unistall third party aplications and Sony has some sort of agreements with them and are obligated by law?

No you are getting the idea wrong
Long ago we discussed alot with SonyEricsson and together decided this is the best way of doing it.
The reason is simple:
Rooting alone does not give you access to all partitions etc. pp See X10 Forums for that. Sony is very good in hiding partitions
With a bootloader unlock we get fully workable fastboot. We are able to write all partitions and change what we want. (Root too)
Also Sony(Ericsson) is able to track who unlocks and who not AND is able to provide a check mechanism to forbid unlocking of phones which are not owned by the user (for example provider branded phones in contract, the phone is usually property of the provider).
So this is the reason. Unlocked bootloader gives us nearly full access, so no need to worry I am in this game since X10 times (like you or not ?)and we always got the phones working like we wanted.
Our work for CM9 on XPS has started now too.

See, I was not aware of that "agreement". Now everything seems to make sense. I am android user since I bought X10 back in August 2010. I was more or less following XDA since then as well, but this forum is worldwide community and is almost imposible to keep a track on everything. I would consider myself somewhere between rookie and advanced users. I know how to do certain things (root, how to use ADB, I was changing framwork_res.apk for my own purposes, etc.). My point also is, I am more hardware sort of guy, rather than software. That's why I am glad you guys are here with us.
Will this wipe the phone data or only the system partition ?

Well no. But the first step is that you need to unlock bootloader and THIS WILL wipe your data. To flash the systempartition itself will not wipe userdata.

Yes, I agree. But myself, I will wait for root for phones with locked bootloader as well. I assume I will be happy with phone speed, but when CM9 comes out, then I will consider unlockin bootloader.

So you restored with Titanium. Since Titanium is a Root app and you don't had Root before i think you are trying to restore a backup from another phone.
If you do that you have to assure that you ONLY RESTORE APPS and NOT SETTINGS! Settings from another phone will be most likely incompatible.
So this wil be your problem!

After copying TWRP, 4.4.3, stock backup files to a memory stick, I notice some of the files sizes are slightly different. Only by a few kb's.
Copied directly to memory stick from phone because in the past I've noticed that if you copy to, windows, laptop and then to stick, some files "disappear".
Question is...... can anyone tell me why files sizes are slightly different AND, bearing that in mind, is it safe to delete backup from phone ?
Thanks

Best thing to do to be sure, is try restoring with one of them. Wouldn't want to find out they are corrupt when you really need them.
Just be sure you have an untouched backup on your device, before restoring from the copied over one.

Q&A for [EFS] LG G3 EFS Backup and Restore
Some developers prefer that questions remain separate from their main development thread to help keep things organized. Placing your question within this thread will increase its chances of being answered by a member of the community or by the developer. Thanks for understanding and for helping to keep XDA neat and tidy!
Anyone verify if that LG IMEI backup app worked the same way? I flashed the zip with flashify and it worked fine.
I made a restore before flashig a rom, then I found out that my IMEI numbers where 0 and no signal. Now im trying to restore but after restore it just boots up in TWRP again. I flashed the zip file and restored again... did not help. Am I doing it wrong?
Backup Verification?
Is this all you need for EFS restore on the G3? I used the manual method through cmd terminal/adb on my pc and successfully created the two files. Can someone explain to a noob how I can verify that it was successful, i.e. a way to check the two .img files that were generated? Thanks in advance.

How to check if EFS is still on my device?
Hi guys, I'm an owner of a new LG G3.
Now I have a problem. I went to TWRP, deleted EVERYTHING in the wipe menu, without backing up EFS. Then I installed ChupaChups 2. with the ChupaChups skin and SuperSU 2.37. Now I don't know if I lost EFS or how to check if it's still on the device. Because in the settingsmenu "about phone" I can still see my IMEI and data seems to work fine, at least on 2/3g. Can somebody tell me how to check on this?
Someting odd at last, I experience Bluetooth-hickups with the rom, anybody can confirm this?
Thank you so much for your help, I'm a bit desperate here because I don't know if I really just destroyed my phone and I am hoping I'm able to restore to stock.

Hello,
It depends what you have in mind when you say "my info". If it is precious personal data, and you don't have a copy on another media, this is not too good. :-/ . If it is about the operating system and it's features, I have read that flashing back to stock rom is possible, as LG provides them in their Open Source section.
/Edit: ddaypunk06 I can't answer to the new content of your post. Someone else will.
I am interested in making a back up of my EFS folder, but I'm not rooted. I read here :http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/development/efs-lg-g3-efs-backup-restore-t2907329 that it can also be done using 4 ADB commands. Is it still necessary to be rooted to use the ADB commands ? by the way I'm on V20f.

Hi,
As I understand things, the 4 ADB commands mentioned are meant to root the phone. From this part of this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/lg-g3/development/root-root-lg-g3-easily-purpledrake-lite-t2821000
But, what if I don't want to run your script to root?
Well then, I'd be a little hurt, but you can still do everything the script does manually.
Download the package, and extract it. Open a terminal in the main folder of the archive and run these commands:
Code:
adb reboot --bnr_recovery
adb push ./assets/start_restore /temp/start_restore
adb push ./assets/permaroot.bin /temp/start_restore
adb reboot
That will perma-root you, however there's no protection from doing something stupid or the phone being incompatible. Please be careful!

So be it with 4 ADB commands or with the help of the DrakePurple-Lite script, you need to be root in the filesystem of your phone, if you want to be able to perform administration tasks.
So how I understand things, you can't access to the said files: the 2 parts of the bootloader, if you are not root in the Android operating system. Please see here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=54254062&postcount=2
EFS Backup:
Backup EFS after jailbreaking your G3. EFS is split into 2 partitions modemst1 and modemst2.
img files will be on root of internal sdcard. Save the .img files somewhere else besides the sdcard... email, cloud, etc..
I have made a new thread on EFS backup and restore which can be found HERE.

Hi there.
Go to Settings>about phone>Status.
You should see your IMEI, MAC Address and operator connection.
Also go to Phone and dial *#06# and you should again see your IMEI.
Make sure that it is not all 000000000s.
Edit: If you play with flashing roms backup your EFS folder!

I only have a 4.4.2, LG G3 S stock, untouched, not updated. I am waiting for a missing clue to root it using DrakePurple-Lite in my Linux distribution. Which codename does that one have? Can't find EFS folder
Hi!
Today I flashed EFS Backup but I can't see in windows or in the phone with root explorer..etc. But I see in the Recovery..So i can't copy to my computer or anywhere else..
Can You help me?
Thanks
I'm sorry for pulling the noob card. I have managed to backup my EFS using TWRP. I would like a second type of backup to be sure before I move any further. I've been down the lost IMEI on my Note 2. So my new G3 is a VS985 and this method does not seem to work? It goes through all of the steps, but when I look for the created folder there is nothing. Even the folder does not exist. One thing I have noticed is that when I try to create a backup from TWRP to the internal storage the same behavior occurs. Something is written and even TWRP can find it. Although when I am looking around for the created folder... I find nothing. Although when I write a backup to the SDcard it can be found. So if someone could help me with this it would be great. Thank you all for your time.
I think this is the same issue as the poster above me.
I get the impression this thread is no longer active?
Hey guys,
Been searching for a few days now ive tried several root methods
the ones from playstore like
Kingroot
Kingoroot
Kingoroot desktop
Its a galaxy tab a6 running android 5.1.1
Build number LMY47V.T280XXU0APB6
All of the above say they can root it but they all failed
I have seen posts on forums such as this one offering custom roms for the device so I must assume there is a root somewhere and I just cant find it.
Any help would be extremely apreceated

Hello ashyx
I have the sm-T285m. Yes, I could not root it using the usual programs out there. Any way to inject root into the system image and then reflash it through odin? (as you mentioned you have managed to debloat it-maybe a dumb question as am sure you already looked into it) I recall trying to do such a thing on Huawei Mediapad x2 when there was no root but ran into issues after I accidentally overwrote my entire windows o/s and disk with linux and then gave up (had to extract files from image, add the su then recompile something like that?...from memory over a year back and was only my first and only foray into linux) The odin tar files are separate ones for modem, system, bootloader etc.
Thanks

I already tried prerooting the system image.
It wont boot because the boot.img needs to be patched and you can't patch the boot.img on a bootloader locked device.
I even asked Chainfire if there was any other way and he said no.

Thanks Ashyx...you mentioned you managed to debloat it. I tried ext4unpacker (maybe archaic now though recall it worked on 5.0.2) to separate the system.img into components but could not. I am interested in editing system image
(A) change dpi (increase the lcd density to 380 or so to get things bigger),
(B) change system font (put in a preferred ttf font),
(C) remove many unneeded (for me) google apps from the system folder, and
(D) enable mobile data auto on off for mms via the features.xml or others.xml. Do you think these could be done (you already mentioned the debloat).
typically i managed to get all of the above done if rooted.
Any advice appreciated on how to do this unpacking and repacking.
Thanks
does this help? opensouce kernel?
(again maybe preaching to the choir but thought I'd ask-not knowledgeable here but posting if it helps in getting to a semi-rooted type state somehow)

(cross flashed through odin the 285 on my 285m the system CP file...and reverted back to 285m-no difference though in network as modem was still 285m as was partition and BL-reflashed the BL as well separately for 285m-after all this shows oem unlock checked-when i got the device new it was unchecked)
edit...from what it appears, it means it CAN be unlocked, yes? but not actually unlocked?

(again maybe preaching to the choir but thought I'd ask-not knowledgeable here but posting if it helps in getting to a semi-rooted type state somehow)

It wont make any difference. Enabling OEM unlock doesn't unlock the bootloader.
You still wont be able to flash unsigned boot or recovery images.
It will only allow you to flash an unsigned system image.
I use Ubuntu to mount and edit Ext4 images.
You can use the windows or Linux version of simg2img to convert the sparse image to raw then mount in Linux
Tbh Samsung need to provide an unlock for this device like they do for the Chinese devices as there is no reason why this device should have a locked bootloader.
Hi.
I need to do full backup of my xt1635-02.
It is not rooted. Is there a way to have backup of contacts, app, wifi settings, gmail account settings and so on just in one file? Like TWRP or ClokworkMode. Without need of root.
My device is making weird thing, from dissapearing of wifi to making mess with files.
It is time to reset.
But do not want to spend whole day doing it.
Any advice appreciated.

You do not need root for using twrp, but your device needs to be unlocked. If you didn't do it already, it won't help: unlocking wipes all data.
Best thing I see in this case is adb backup. Plug the usb cable, start "adb backup -all". You may search for help using Google "adb backup", there should be some instructions available.
As i unlocked all my devices, I did not use adb except some tests and never restored anything. I'm myself using twrp and Nandroid backup.

It's nearly the same for all devices by Motorola. Just search for some instructions.
Get code from your device via fastboot/adb
Enter that code in a website by Motorola
Receive unlock code
Enter that code twice (first: enter again to assure you want to do that) to you device via fastboot/adb
Then it wipes your device and is unlocked.
Booting afterwards you have 5 seconds delay and a message that your device is unlocked, on every boot. This is to make you confident that your device is configured right, at least I see it this way.
Done. But it looks small, only 128 Mb of data, what really it saves? Anything from my first post?
Hi, I am feeling so bad, that I am writing offtopic, but I can't already create new topics and I got my device hardbricked, and I need size of all partitions (I mean not only /system /data etc., but all partition from chip) can anyone provide it to me?
Also cat /proc/emmc and cat /proc/partitions will be helpful. So again, for anyone reading this, who has root. Help me please, this information is needed to rawprogramme0.xml and patch0.xml that are needed for unbricking. It will enable everyone to ressurrect their devices.
What happened that you brick it? My is not rooted and I dont want it, so probably I cannot help.

Hi, thank you for response. I hard-bricked it by doing OTA after downgrading phone firmware. I have made partition tables from leaked firmware so I don't need them anymore, but you will help me very much, providing backup of your chip. This will allow to create unbrick solution for everyone with that phone. Here is the thread I finally could make:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-z-play/help/one-best-to-moto-z-play-xda-community-t3902951
This contain instructions and all info. If you don't have root it is still ok, you don't need to have it
