Sorry, but only the obvious: uninstall it and look for a different way to change dpi.

I've never had success changing resolution or dpi on mine (8.4 t325) with stock or modified stock rom. Only on CM11 (which I'm using now) could I do it, either through terminal or an app.

For anyone wondering in the future, LineageOS supports both MHL AND resolution changing - at least in its current state.

[MOD] Modified & LagFixed TouchWiz Launcher

As you know, in galaxy s when we install 4-5 page programs , lags is appear
The touchwiz launcher is lagy too and when we Turn pages the lags is apear
I decompile touchwiz.apk and i explore folders and in res folder i saw few folders that named xxxx-xxxx-1024x600 and i guess this names means 1024x600 pixel like galaxy tab and samsung create a touchwiz that could be use in galaxy s and galaxy tab!
I decided to deleted that folders had a 1024x600 in the last of name and i compile apk and push it to galaxy and i see that is work lagless and very fast and smooth
I made an update.zip of this modified touchwiz and upload in attachment
Guys you can test it and leave Comments on this topic
I forget something
I change the homescreen_menu_shortcut_bg.png with glass one and you can see in pic
What firmware versions does this work on?
Does it overwrite the default TouchWiz?
Is it compatible with any Lagfixes?
this launcher is last version of touchwiz that used in jpm/jp6 roms and must work on any version of roms
yes , this launcher is compatible with any lagfixes
I am sorry, what has been changed from default?
Lowered the resolution or something?
i think you should work with the guy that did the TW mod script:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=792817
together you can hack tw and make it work better
Just flashed it via CWM on Voodoo-Doctor-Edition-JP6 and seems to be lagless flipping between pages. G8 job!
Amazing!!!!!!!!
It works!!!!!! Great Work!!!! This launcher is more fast, even using various widgets and an animated desktop. Thanks!!!!

No, based on what he wrote, he deleted icons and textures for use on Galaxy Tab. I wonder if it really does make it faster, though.
No effect here. Still laggy as hell.
EDIT: maybe it's because I'm using a lagfix? I have 5 pages of apps. Not that much if you ask me :S
Can you guys still uninstall apps from the drawer?
Last time I replaced TWlauncher I had lost this ability.
interesting.....
I recommend editing the LauncherConfig.java class to enable the fly in effect when opening the app menu, pretty nice.

My attachement contains a classes.dex which has the ability to uninstall (non system) apps from homescreen + fly in effect.
Remove .apk and .odex first, then push this to system. I always switch to an other launcher before doing that..
@Spike_M
When I delete all folders with 1024*600 in the name, apktool gives some errors..
On reboot touchwiz doesn't load - it gives me a fc error: The process android.process.acore has stopped unexpectedly.
How do I go back to the original touchwiz?

Do you have adb enabled? Otherwise you have a problem..
I have adb installed, but my pc won't detect the phone when plugged in via usb.
It seems like the only solution is to flash another update.zip via recovery. An update.zip of the original touchwiz should work, if someone would be kind enough to put one together. I wouldn't know where to start...
Edit: or is there a way to install an apk via the recovery menu? Long shot, I know. I was thinking installing LauncherPro would bypass the fubar'd tw.
i use modified launcher and its work like a charm
for those guys want to get back original touchwiz
1- download update.zip in attachment and copy it to your internal memory
2- instal it from recovery 2e or cwm recovery

Thanks but I can't access the internal memory of my phone. Now what?
Tw launcher is definately faster now. Try pinch to zoom and see! It even made me consider reverting from launcher pro.. Great fix, thanks!
its not 100% perfect but youre as close as ive ever seen anyone come so far!
damn nice fix!
I think I noticed an small improvement with that fix: 55apps installed (6 pages in app drawer), but there is still some lag...
By the way I'm really glad that there is people trying to improve the performance of TW. I really like TW but the app drawer is laggy I'm still using froyo stock launcher...

[Q] Similar ROM to Slimbean (small size) but without its own Gapps?

So the thing I enjoy most about slimbean is the "night" setting and the smaller sizes.
Correct me if i'm wrong, but the part that determines the general sizes is the LCD density, and for slim its at 245.
Are there any ROMs that also use the same LCD density (if that is what's causing the small size)?
I'm mainly wondering because it uses its own Gapps package so that it could do this night mode where everything is black.
But I want to use the new gmail and other gapps that just came out more than I want night mode
You don't have to use the SlimBean GApps with the Slim ROMs, but have a look at CarbonROM (has Dark Carbon settings and you can change LCD density).

I use LiquidSmooth (what Carbon is based off of) and used to use their method to change the DPI. But recently, I've discovered the XPosed Per-App DPI settings included in the Rom. With it I can manually adjust the DPI of any program to make it whatever I want. The thing I like about this is that I don't have to mess with the Play Store (no more errors when trying to download apps). That, and some apps don't play well with a modified dpi on our phone.
I can go through and make google calendar 240 dpi and see how it functions, then change it to 190 an see how it works. I change Nova's setting to make the launcher look more like Slim Rom's (the Rom that made me fall in love with switching the DPI). It works really well and is worth a test drive, in my opinion.

So I tried to install it, and I got this assert failed problem, which links to this solution. Did you flash the odex, deodex, or 3rd rom? I'm just confused, since I would have to install a gapps for the 4.1.2 JB. did you do any of that?
edit - my broadband is mc3

No, you need to read the guys post again. He says to update your bootloader to MD4 to fix it, not to flash one of the stock roms.

Xperia S, 4.1.2, FW 6.2.b.1.96 : Changing the LCD DPI ?

Hello,
A great colleague of mine who also owns a xperia S like me
loaded SlimNasomi rom (I think 4.2.2) and did change lcd DPI.
Screen displays more info and icons are smaller. Look nice.
Is it a way to do it with official 6.2.b.1.96 rom ?
I found a thread on a forum about root'ing the phone and
updating a file build.prop in /system, updating ro.sf.lcd_density
I even found an app 'Google Play DPI Fix Tool'
Did anyone already try to play with LCD DPI's ?
Thanks. Cheers from Belgium,
Thierry
I use Texdroider DPI - it worked on stock JB, rooted.

It changes build.prop to desired dpi. I use it because it's faster and it really works. I tried on stock ROM, OpenSEMC and letama's AOSP 4.3.
And what is the range of values to stay in to avoid an endless bootloop?
yes that's the question, What value did you use for. in .200 fw i used a lcd density changer soft (don't remember the name) and guess what i got endless loop. I used 244 or something like that.
I usually use 240 and I didn't have any problems with that dpi.
It is standard Android dpi so most apps work just fine. Stock ROM look good but it has some minor offsets (gradient in notification bar as far as I remember).
I have been talking about this in the themes section in an old thread. I keep seeing people have issues with the dpi apps. I personally just edit build prop manually as it is not hard. I use Anttek explorer for my file browsing and edits. I would also suggest you try Xposed framework and per app dpi module. The magic LCD number is 192 for tablet mode. If you set home to 160 it goes into tablet mode but the status bar will not combine at the bottom. There is also another xposed module that forces tablet mode and works well but is still buggy. You also loose small apps.
There is a way to force tablet mode with out the dpi change but I have to figure out how to do that and even then not sure it will actually work. Need to ask some smali experts to help me.
... and what about if in endless bootloop ? ... :crying:
You must make backup before any modifcations
Yea it is a great idea to have a backup when messing with the system. If something goes wrong you can just go back to where you started.

DPI Change?

Hi All!
So just got this phone , its rooted etc.
Just curious - anyone find a way to change DPI?
Texdroider doesnt seem to work at all - doesn't detect what its at currently and changing it seems to have no effect.
I saw a thread about changing DPI on non-rooted , but does anyone know of an app that works to do this?
For reference - this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/zenfone2/help/dpi-change-t3161491
I dont really mind running ADB commands but would prefer a different solution as im unable to use ADB at the moment ( work pc )
Any information appreciated - thanks!
FYI i have 4gb ram 2.3 ghz model if that makes any difference.
I don't have the phone to try it out but how about the good old way of editing build.prop?
Install a Terminal emulator. Open the app, then type "SU" > then "wm density *DPI*" Ex. wm density 460.
I'm pretty happy with 400 DPI.

Change Screen Size on Stock Sense Marshmallow

I've been using Android Nougat for quite few months now and in it I used to change the display size to small in Display settings.
Have switched back to stock sense marshmallow for some reasons. Can anyone help me change the display size on Sense Marshmallow like Nougat ?
@ckpv5 can you help me ?

Yes, I know Nova is an option but it just resizes the home screen and app drawer, not the whole system.
I'm looking for something that can change the whole system display size like in Nougat.

Just change the default value of
ro.sf.lcd_density=480
in build.prop to your preferable value.
When running stock, mine is
ro.sf.lcd_density=400
Or use dpi changer app like Easy DPI Changer (from Play Store) if your stock ROM is rooted and write protection disabled.

I tried changing DPI Density through adb with wm density command as I'm not rooted. The density changed but icons on lock screen and the switches in settings were broken.
I was trying to change it to 432 which was the density when I selected small in nougat display settings.
Which lockscreen version ?
I'm on htc lockscreen 8.04.879556 (apkmirror), no issue.

Stock Lockscreen. 7.50.653327, I RUU'ed. Should I install from apk mirror with nodpi ?
Doesn't matter no dpi or 480. I always go for no dpi whenever available.
