I want to use my old S4 Mini as a Bitcoin wallet. The problem is that I need to completely disable all wireless communications (GSM/Wi-fi/3G) for that.
Is this possible on the stock rom? I know I can just turn on airplane mode and remove the sim-card, but I saw apps turning on Wi-fi all by themselves, so that doesnt feel safe enough. Is there a better method?
Also, if someone is willing to develop a custom ROM for me, which completely strips everything that has to do with wireless, Im willing to pay for that.
Which apps are there which turn on wifi by themselves without asking for permission??
If you have root you could manually break your wifi or anything else by deleting the appropriate files/libs in the system folder.

I'm thinking about building an application for personal use. The details aren't important but one of the things i would like to be able to do is turn the wifi hotspot on or off. I've looked around, but haven't been able to find anything on the subject, or whether or not it's even possible.
Does anybody have some information on this?
Most ICS ROM's have that option built in...have you tried app store search or just a google search?

If you intend to have your phone automattically turn on wifi hotspot based on certain profiles, Tasker will do that for you. You can find it in the playstore. It's a paid app though.
Well, i suppose suggestions for apps that do the sort of thing i want to do. Unfortunately there's nothing out there that does what i want, because I want something rather unusual.
I spoke to a friend yesterday and he pointed me in the direction of the API i want (which contrary to my initial assumptions was not DHD specific), so when i have the time i can put together my tool.
Thanks anyway
I am wanting to remove all the phone components to basically make the phone a portable media player.
What would be the best way to accomplish this. I am not sure what programs would need to be frozen.

This basically strips the phone to just that a phone with text and internet. You don't have to activate the phone or use any of the 3 to 4 total features. However, I think you need these things to at least get the phone recognize anything. Try that first. If you want to try something different, you can delete these as you see fit.

Is here a simpler way? Wouldn't removing the radio from the phone solve the problem of it constantly searching for a signal (besides it being in Airplane Mode)? I appreciate the list, as that is useful, but, I am looking for more then just freezing/removing apks.
I basically want the phone to become a PMP without the ability to call, text, etc.

Then go with the spreadsheet and delete away. Careful not to delete the stuff to at least get the phone to the homepage. The best way is to make a backup first. Then delete one thing at a time and reboot to ensure the phone will still work the way you want to.
X'ed out the game

You can't just remove the Modem... what more are you looking for? The only real way to do it is to freeze apps or remove them. Its not like we have a ROM for what you want. If you want it, you're going to have to do it yourself. If there is no service, it is useless for calling and texting. I suggest keeping the phone section active because it can still be used for emergency calls to 911. But as far as completely disabling call and text features, you will have to remove or freeze the apps. There is nothing to disable it from having a signal other than airplane mode. Wifi can still be turned on though.

So im old fashion...
Basically i believe a keyboard should NOT have power to record audio.. Now i understand some people like this stuff.. But i dont and if i ever need that feature ill download a seperate application.
Anyway, i moved android.keybaord out of /system and modified its permissions to disallow this. I then patched out the error activity that "force closes" since its just a service it comes back no prob.
Is there some kind of altercation this will cause me down the road? I have nandroid backup.
Also how is there a clean way to disable automatic wifi configuration via dhcp when the wifi radio is off? My current solution is messy... Shouldnt wifi radio being disabled stop all wifi communication? Im not to sure how dhcp functions but i see my phone configuring settings to various wifi networks in the logs even when my radio is off. So i did a messy workaround.....
My dear god! Every system apk has godlike permissions... And this might seem obvious to most. But i refuse to accept my wallpaper accessing my camera... And i know this can be used for cool shot! But jees! Im mutilating my phone because of all this!!
Anyway just modded that too... :/
If anyone knows of future problems of this shot please tell me... I have dual boot and on this partition i have near zero bloatware, and zero google apps.
Ok if anyone knows of a complication.
Like extra battery/cpu use or future corruptipn tell me.

Btw, when i say ""modded"" i mean i blocked activities or permissions.
It has come that time. my note 2 is getting very little use anymore. But I still have a user for it. But I want to kill the phone completely. And I mean completely, not just airplane mode or remove the apk.
It's only ever going to use WiFi now from time to time. so I want to maximize the shelf life.
Is this possible? Maybe flash an empty IMG over the modem?
Any other way?
Than you for any info..
A bare bones AOSP rom with a minimal gapps package for Google access could work. ..
Then use TIBU to delete all non essential apk's....
Pull the sim and done. ..
No network without a sim...and you should be able to kill the no sim prompt using TIBU as well so the nag screen won't function. ..
Just a few ideas for ya....
But you will need an OS for the chipsets to function and for sat locks and such if you want maps or something similar. ..
Just a few thoughts. ...g
Sadly modern phones still connect to the cell phone network even with out a sim, and still might allow an emergency call. But there should be a way to stop all that.

You can go into the system and delete the phone and contacts apk files.
Also I believe Wanam Xposed and Gravity box Xposed has options to disable the emergency call feature from the home/lock screen.
My phone is all stock and will stay this way so please do not suggest rooting or alternate ROMs, I have another phone for that to play with.
After I upgraded to Android 10, there is one thing that tremendously pissing me off, and it is when my phone automatically connects to a wifi network requiring log-in and turns mobile data off, essentially throwing me into off-line mode. How retarded this is?! Previously (before the upgrade) it would keep the data ON until I logged into the network, and if I didn't stay at a place long enough (like a cafe) I didn't care about loging in at all and just staying with my phone data.
I looked through all the settings and couldn't find this option I need. Is it there and I'm not looking in the right place, or do others have similar issue?
