[Q] Huawei Ascend P6 update from B510 to B520 (rooted device) - Huawei Ascend P6, Mate

Hi!
About a week ago, the two icons on my phone - settings and tools- showed '1 update available' symbol. It was about the firmware update from B510 to B520. I tried the normal online procedure but it did not work. Again, following the XDA Forum guidelines, Huawei News Forums and some other help forums online, still I could not find any easy steps or guidance describing the exact situation i.e. an update procedure from B510 to B520 for P6. Later, I remembered that my phone has been rooted for a while. I do not know if that was the reason. . . ? To be honest, I am an Android novice. So, I need someone to help me in as simple way as possible. Please, anyone?
Regards and thanks, in advance!

Your phone is rooted, but did you made any changes to build.prop / local.prop files? For repairing drop zone manager/ changing region / repairing phone sound volume restrictions? If you've done that, you must revert back the changes first. All files must be in their default condition - then try update again.
What message it gives you, when you try to update? Does the phone goes in recovery mode? (black screen with android on the background and some yellow writings)
If you rooted with VRoot, simply try to unroot again with the same program. The program itself have this option. Than try again online.
If in the end you cannot update online, just update with flashing the update thru LOCAL UPDATE from your SD card.

Thanks, but I need more help, please!

Hello, ThunderBird891!
I am so glad that you replied - know that you are the first person ever to reply to me in this forum since I joined in!
To move forward, I would like you to know a few more things and, please, note that I am a novice, who just happened to try the rooting process out of curiosity.
I might have used Vroot or RootGenius. Next, I don't know how to revert build.prop / local.prop files? For repairing drop zone manager/ changing region / repairing phone sound volume restrictions, either. Or, do you mean revert to factory settings? I don't have an SD card! Depressing, right?
But. . .one thing, I know is that the phone goes to recovery mode as you described, a black screen with android on the background and some yellow writings - error 7 or something. Finally, it goes back to reboot and repeats the whole process after the normal reboot but no update, still.
What can I do then?
HELP!!!

Look like your download is corrupt or something, did you try to download it again?

Hi! I'm glad to respond you!
It doesn't matter that your phone was rooted once! And even if it is rooted now - still it must download and upgrade your firmware. The only difference after the upgrade will be, that you will lose you root!
And so I think the problem is something other! So i suggest you to do the whole downgrade to 4.2 procedure, and then go back to updating to all versions up to B520. Don't worry! When you go back B132 for example, it will prompt you that it has upgrade vie OTA (Over The Air) so you can upgrade directly! Just follow my instructions STRICTLY, just as I described in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/ascend-p6/general/how-to-downgrade-4-4-4-2-change-chinese-t2951566
(the downgrade process can be done with any official huawei 4.2 firmware, like B125 for example, not only B132! I just prefer to use B132. You can use the same firmware version, with which you phone was delivered to you. If you can remember this version number of course. I personally prefer B132 because this was the version with which my phone was shipped to me. )
When you downgrade you will lost any data on the phone, but you'll be able to go B520 - we hope! I think, that there is no problem that you have no SD Card! Just put the update/upgrade/downgrade files in the dload folder of the internal memory of you device. If there is no dload folder, you can create it! If it doesn't downgrade again, then try to get/find some sd card from friend or just buy one and try the procedure again from the sd card! I can't say if the problem persist because the lack of SD Card, because I have SD and I've never tried to do it from internal memory! Just try and write me again!
Also I would like to know in which country / region you're in?

Thanks for your interest!

Hi!
I tried every possible way, I even bought an SD card. . . but no success! BTW, I am from Finland and the OTA information says ''European Channel Update''. Any luck?
Happy New Year 2015!

Try to reset the phone and wipe the internal storage, then put the update in the internal storage like described before ( dload folder containing an update.app file).

[Q] Upgrading to B125 from B109

Hi, I just received my P6 and rooted it using eRoot. I have tried upgrading to B125 (running B109 out the box) by downloading the B125 file, passing it to dload on SD and performing a local upgrade, once the device boots to perform this it immediately says FAIL, and if i select the file manually it says "E:\signature verification failed" any ideas on how to solve this? Am I meant to update to something else inbetween before jumping to B125? (I've downloaded the file twice just to make sure it isn't corrupted or anything). I am a complete noob with this device, used to doing this sort of thing through CWM on my Nexus 7.
I have looked around this forum and seen various answers involving using TWRP first which if I could avoid I'd like to avoid as my aim is to load stock firmware without any of the bloatware that comes with my service provider, I'll leave the CFW stuff like AOSP for my tablet.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

It was sitting on 89% charge when I initiated the procedure...
Any idea if using CWMR from this link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2417919 would be any better? It keeps stock recovery, just figured another option wouldn't hurt?

Try to do a MD5 sum check. Probably your download or copying to SD card is corrupted.
Redownload the B125, but worse comes worse, try B118 or B122.

Re-downloaded it and used a proper zip program to unzip the file and it worked!!! So happy
Quick question what would you guys recommend I do to get rid of the service provider bloatware that came with my phone because with the upgrade all that stuff still stayed on my device? I tried uninstalling it normally and it just says system application cannot uninstall...
Battery life is a HUGE improvement. Sitting on 40% after 15 hours of abuse. Thanks again guys!

BTW to get rid of system apps you do not want, install this. Your phone must be rooted in order for this to work.

Tho becareful, don't get rid of vital apps.

My truth about the so-called "Official" B506 Firmware Upgrade

1. It sucks if you try and use it in the Western world - this is NOT meant for us.
2. It is incomplete - Try and flash it using the recovery procedure and you are in for some major butt hurt. ONLY flash it from within JB!
3. Reception sucks.
4. It needs to have GAPPS installed via recovery.
5. Downgrading is a massive headache.
6. It will change your handset from U06 to C00
7. Did I mention that it sucks.
IMHO it is not worth all the trouble upgrading to this yet. Wait for the bona-fide official international version...
My 2 cents...

8. None of the above is true.
Read the title of this thread: This is my truth and my experience with this crappy beta firmware being flaunted by some script-kiddie as an official release.
Do you live in Europe or the Americas? If so then try flashing it from your phone's recovery and let us see how long you are going to run it.
As proof do paste a screenshot of your phone's "About phone" and Model number in particular. Let us see what that says when you flash this firmware. LOL

I try it and there is no problem. I am from Germany. The only thing after a reset I must install the playstore by the chinese app store. Then I can install all apps with it. My device is always P6-U06
Gesendet von meinem ME302C mit Tapatalk
Did you flash the rom from withing Jellybean or using the recovery method?
Using the recovery method all data is cleared and ONLY the new firmware is installed. See what happens if you do this lol
But if you are happy with it as it is then there are no problems - alles ist gut! Alles klar!

Perhaps u need more readings before accomplish some jobs... BTW, if u updates from SD. using simplest "local update" method, u has avoided all of ur said "troubles".
For instance, I've updated from B125, W/OUT any hassles... All my progs, contacts, messages, files and settings are here (including Gapps) also has respected my natural language (Spanish)...
I've only one complaint, til now I can't root the B506 (Vroot can't root also... ).
BTW2, my P6 continues been P6-U06... Now have far better headphones level & quality, better GPS search and some more benefits.
Obviously, this ROM is made for China people, not for Europe but is perfectly usable until we've european version... It's a matter of patience, boy... Only a little more

In order to help you to downgrade from B506 you could use this "road map" (taked from Mr. Mansoor, in Huaweinews webpage):
===============================================================================
""Downgrade from B506 to B125
===============================================================================
NOTE: Downgrading will remove your user files, settings and all the data on Internal Storage
===============================================================================
1. Download P6_Unicom_EMUI2.0.rar (http://bit.ly/1hhwXCX) – Click Blue button
showing down-arrow to start download.
2. Download B125 (http://dl-uk.huaweinews.com/Roms/Ascend-P6/B125.zip)
3. Create dload folder in SD Card
===============================================================================
4. Extract First Downloaded file (P6_Unicom_EMUI2.0.rar), put UPDATE.APP file (243MB approx.)
in newly created dload folder.
5. Backup Data from Internal Storage (will be deleted after downgrade)
6. Go to Setting > Updates > System Updates > Local Updates
7. Click Confirm
8. Phone will restart into recovery and start the update process.
===============================================================================
9. After restarting the phone, delete UPDATE.APP (243MB) file from dload folder of SD Card.
10. Extract second downloaded file (B125.zip), put UPDATE.APP file (1.52GB) into dload folder
of SD Card.
11. Repeat the process from 6 – 7
12. Phone will restart into recovery and update process will start.
===============================================================================
13. After update phone will restart, at this moment you phone may stuck on Huawei Logo,
Don’t panic, just hold the Power button until Huawei logo disappear.
14. After disappearing of Huawei logo, Immediately press the [ Vol + , Vol - and Power button ]
altogether and keep holding them until you see the recovery screen, release the buttons to
start the update process again, after that your phone will restart normally.
15. Now you have the Official Version of Jelly Bean 4.2 on your Huawei P6-U06.
===============================================================================
Note: Downgrading will remove your user files, settings and all the data on Internal Storage""
Hope will help you.
Yes lol
Thank you La Aguja!
I also quoted the attached instructions from Mr Mansoor on numerous places here to help people revert back to their previous version.
I was just stating the fact that for me the new firmware was not so great and B125 is still the best version for me at this moment in time.
Perhaps when the international B506 comes out will I be much happier to use it. e.g. the builtin Weather widget and app connecting to a western weather service and not to a Chinese one etc.
I can however see a great improvement in the basic Android services with a marked user friendliness with the new version. There is a lot of potential here to improve the user experience of all P6 users.
I found the easiest way to root B506 was to unlock the boot loader and flash TWRP recovery for KitKat. When you then boot into recover and exit it will see that your 4.4 is unrooted and will ask whether it can root it for you. This was very, very easy.
Kindest Regards,
Falci.

Hey guys, I've cleaned this thread from some disrespectful comments and "lol" posts - everything that adds nothing of value to the topic, basically. I see the OP's problem seems to be resolved now, but as a general reminder, there's no need to make an argument out of nothing because someone doesn't share your opinion. The best thing to do is to help them out if they're wrong, which is what happened in this thread. :highfive: Thanks!

Yep. I'm from Finland and same problems here. I updated via Settings, local update. Reception cuts alot, also it feels incomplete and I can see chinese letters for example in Messages app. This totally is for China users only, MAYBE we can get international version someday. Now back in B132...downgrade was a headache - yes.

can i instal this rom over b511 ?
Play store error [RPC:S-7:AEC-0]
How i fix it?
Sorry,my english bad.
A quick Q&A please
Good day all
I have a question regarding the royal mess I have caused on my phone.( Huawei p6)
I have official kitkat installed B510. Due to the constant battery drain and anonemous data usage by Google I thought it might be a good idea to DE- Google my phone. So I rooted my phone and deleted all non essential google stuff.
Afterwards realising my phone is close to a brick without google i decided to restore my phone to stock. It seems that now no google services wants to work. I treid a few things but to no avail. I am in the prosess of downloading the official B510 firmware again. Do you guys think I can apply the same firmware ontop of one another? Will it work and if not what whould you suggest. After this I am done playing around with this stuff to scary!!!!!!!

I would suggest that you first try resetting the phone to factory settings and see what's working or not, if that doesn't help then reflash the firmware again.

Preferred Network type 2G ONLY
Hi guys! I'm very glad with this ROM but I've a problem. Yesterday changed the preferred network type to 2G ONLY and now i can't change it! There's no way to change it, also there's no way the phone register in 3G network. Any advice, change it from a file ?
Home Screen
Hi!
Only me having problems to select an other home screen than Huawei? I can open Nova for example but when I press home I'll return to Huawei without prompt to select home screen.
Can´t find the option under settings nether, just Standard and Simple or what it´s called in English.
Thanks in advance!
Edit: Just found the answer to my question: Settings -> Manage apps -> Default app settings -> Launcher
Talk about making things hard to find... Huawei!
Still messed up and I'm still crying...

Maybe flash a newer firmware? You said you were on B510, so try flashing the B512.

I have already installed new firmwares but is seems like the phone does not do a clean install. All my messages and user settings carry over to the new firmware even the aps. I think I need to do a clean install. Wipe the phone completely and do a fresh install but I am not sure how to do that. I have read elseware on the forum that when you downgrade firmware to stock you lose all data. I am now on the b708 repacked firmware and am going to follow the guide in that forum to downgrade to B132. If that does not work then I suppose I will need to get a new recovery installed like TWRP or CWM and then use those to wipe the phone. I am really at a loss of words and ideas.
But thanks for the help thus far.

There is a way to wipe all through fastboot but you will need the .img files that are needed to flash back the system and all data. You can get them from update.app file with an extractor found on the forums. Do what you planed to do first and if it doesnt work i will do whatever is needed to help ya.

Yes Yes and once again Yes I managed to get my phone back to stock and everything is working again as it should. Thank you for the help.
Here is what I did to get my phone back to stock.
Installed b706 firmware (Chinese)
after this an error message in chinese popped up continuously and for the following 30 min I crapped my pants.
Then i installed the unicom 2.0 downgrade
error message persisted and once again I pooped my pants
Then I installed the b132 firmware and everything is now back as it was the day of purchase \
Here is the link to the procedure

To me it looks like you made a bad update and now you need to reflash. Now if you know which firmware was the last working one on thw phone i can make a suggestion on what to put in the sd card to flash.

Unable to install latest M8s OTA update v2.20.401.1

Hello,
I'm new to this forum, and I could not find anything related to this issue. I'm successfully downloading the latest update and when I try to install it, the installation goes up to 25% and I get the red exclamation mark afterwards. The phone then restarts, and I'm back at the beginning, where I have to re-download the update all over again. I don't have any custom ROMs flashed on my device, it's just like I bought it, the latest update that I made was the update to Android v6.0.1. Current software number is v2.10.401.1, if that is of any importance. I've factory reset the phone, and tried applying the update on a fresh phone, but it still won't work.
Also, while I'm here, I might just ask... I'm getting frequent app crashes/unresponsive app, mostly on the apps that I'm using the most, Facebook and Instagram. Facebook is more stable, crash/unresponsiveness does not happen very often, but for Instagram it's always happening after scrolling 3-4 images. Also, the Sense Home app is always getting unresponsive after a phone restart, and I have to restart it several times until it gets back to normal, since it cannot recover from it, I'm not seeing the home screen at all.
I was very satisfied with my phone before the update to Android 6, but after upgrade, I'm frequently having these minor problems, another one of which is the SD card "unexpectedly removed" error, which is happening when I open up the gallery or the file manager. I'm running low on patience, I really hoped that this last update will fix things, but I'm very close to slamming the phone off the wall, that's how frustrated I am. Please help
Well I'm no expert here but I've also experienced the freezes in such apps and even normal restart didn't work, so I had to force restart it. This happened in marshmallow and lollipop both so i tried removing my sd card and freezes were gone. In my case it was the sd card, so you can try that.
And for the update check if your bootloader is locked, assuming you bought it refurbished or used, the previous owner might have done some tinkering.
Hope you find the solution soon :good:

If you are willing to, you can unlock the bootloader from http://www.htcdev.com/bootloader/ and flash a stock sense ROM or other custom ROMs and that might solve the app crash problem.

I've already tried removing the SD card, and I've seen slight improvement in the app crashes, but they were still occurring. My bootloader is locked, but I'm going to unlock it now and flash a new ROM, I can't play around with it anymore

Before you do that .. as there is almost no custom ROM available for M8s except CM which is in progress, I don't suggest to unlock bootloader.. try to find and install 2.10.401.1 RUU
Installing RUU will usually fix this kind of problem if the data partition is sort of corrupted but not damaged.

Yeah, same version then after OTA to 2.20.401.1
You can read this - http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc...lp-thread-htc-one-m8s-to-stock-howto-t3190238
and this - http://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-m8/one-m8s-general/make-custom-recovery-htc-one-m8s-t3114245
on how to manually install RUU
And for the RUU .. I have to check my PC for the full filename so it is easier to find link. I'll let you know tomorrow (on mobile now)

If thats what you want to do I'd suggest you try cm12.1 . Unfortunately its the only ROM available to us but its way better than stock in terms of performance imho. But do that if you're willing to sacrifice some things such as double tap to wake and also any 3rd party camera apps, because they crash alot and yeah no boomsound. :fingers-crossed:

I'll try with @ckpv5 suggestion, to install 2.10.401.1 RUU and then try OTA upgrade to 2.20.401.1. If it fails, or if it succeeds but apps are still crashing as they were before, I'll definitely switch to cm, whatever version is stable at the moment. Double tap to wake is really annoying and I don't need it, I don't use 3rd party camera apps, and I guess I'll have to live without boomsound Thanks for the tip, though.

I did a bit of digging, and what I found is this:
0PKVIMG_M8_QL_UL_M60_SENSE70_HTC_Europe_2.10.401.1_Radio_1.0.U20410.1 @ 60201_20.05_018_F_release_479349_combined_signed.zip
which I downloaded from https://ruu.lalleman.net/ -> Firmware (Expert) -> Firmware Crypted (Original HTC)
I'll wait for you to confirm that this is the one that I need, before I continue with the procedure (rename, put to SD, boot to bootloader, fastboot)
does someone have stock marshmallow twrp backup. I accidentally deleted mine and now stuck with cm only

Worked for me as well. I'm at v2.20 now, so far no app crashes, the "SD card unexpectedly removed" is still there, but I'll live. Thanks a lot @ckpv5 for your suggestion, I practically got a brand new phone now!

no no not that. I mean TWRP backup. I dont want to go back to zero relock the phone and flash the zip and re-unlock the phone root again bla bla.
Since you did the same process, I thought maybe you took a backup of the rom after you updated it.
I made a mistake by not taking a backup of it so now it is a problem for me :/
Edit: damn! thanks anyway. I have a long night in front of me clearly. I hate this phone :/
V4A is not working anymore with the latest update. Is it me or everyone has the same problem.
