So here I am testing out the selfie mode for my HTC One M8 and noticed the + and - signs on the screen. I move it up and down with my finger but it does nothing. At first I had no clue what it was for. Initially, I thought it was some type of selfie zoom but it wasn't. I Googled it of course and found out it was for the timer. There's a small timer icon on the selfie mode screen that says "2s" but when I increase or decrease the +/- signs, the "2s" does not change. I tested it by taking selfies with the timer at max and min lvls and it didn't make a difference.
Anyone else having trouble with this?

I am waiting to get my T-Mobile US TP2.
For those of you that already have a TP2, non-T-Mobile US, can you say if the camera has a "pre-focus" capability as on most digital cameras?
I am looking to see if you can press the button to take a picture but only set the focus and the press the button to really take the picture.
press it anywhere on the screen to get the focus...., well kind a like that...or you could just watch the video here:

From my readings of the manual, that look/sounds like touch focus where you are touching the screen to select a different location to focus on, which sounds link a nice feature.
The question I have is, when you touch the screen for touch focus, does it actually initiate the auto focus at that time or do you still have to press the shutter button/icon to initiate the focus and then immediately take the picture?
On most digital cameras today, you can press the shutter button half way to focus and press fully to actually take the picture. I was hoping the TP2 also had something like this.
well, u can also see in the video that it doesnt work like that, so when u push the soft camera button, it will automatically focus and shot it...sorry mate

It does on mine. when i touch an area of the screen which isnt a button, it shows the focal area changes and focusses on it. So, you can focus on something which isnt in the middle of your shot etc. I cant find anything like a focus lock though...so you cant focus on something, move the phone and then take a shot with the same focus set-it'll re-meter everything.

That's a good thing.
With the way you have described touch focus, you CAN pre focus and then when ready, hit the shutter icon to take the picture without the additional delay of auto focus when you press the shutter icon! Good!
Thanks!
UPDATE: From the TMO TP2 manual:
To use Touch Focus:
1. Set the Camera to Photo or Contacts Picture mode.
2. Touch the area on the screen that you want to focus. The Touch Focus indicator ( ) positions itself on the selected area.
Note If you tap outside the effective focus area, a white box appears to indicate the area where you can use Touch Focus.
3. Touch (Shutter ICON here) to activate auto-focus on the selected area and take the photo. See “Auto-focus” in this chapter for more information.
This implies that the touch focus only let's you designate where to focus. When you touch the shutter ICON, it still initiates the auto focus function and then takes the picture.

Spot on - it'll remember where you've told it to focus, but when you press the shutter button it'll re-focus

Just verified the international version of the TP2 has exactly the same language in the manual.
......would be very helpful
Is there anyway to achieve this? Tab once to focus the lens then tap a second time to actually take the pic. I think the TP1 could do this, right? This would be a great feature/tweak.
I'd also like a way to tell the camera to focus and then to take a picture.
The default of press here and I'll take a picture in 1-3 seconds is crap!

That's exactly the case
Anyone having any rotation issues with their camera?
I went to the see the Twin Atlantics last night and took numerous videos, all of which were taken holding the phone horizontally.
Four of the seven videos play vertically even though I hold the phone horizontally, resulting in the picture playing 90 degrees the wrong way. If I hold the phone vertically, the picture rotates 90 degrees the wrong way again. Very strange, I can't think why this happens when the other three videos play at the correct angle.
Any ideas?
No, but have had same...
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2
Have you found a solution to this issue? I am having exactly the same problem..
Is your accelerometer off? I noticed when I turned off auto-rotate I started having problems with the camera. I enabled and disabled again and it fixed it for the time being. Make sure that when you are taking a picture, the video recording button and the shutter button are oriented the correct way.
same problem on just one video, started recording vertical and then quick rotate to horizontal, screen rotated but when playing its show small video box. Others started in right way got no playing problem.
I'm wondering if anyone else is experiencing this issue or maybe i have a weird setting set on my camera.
Issue: Basically in lower lighting areas (not super dark, in a room with a few desk lamps on) the front facing camera shows a good image. Then once i start recording a video (or even in snapchat) the image is light, then after about 1 second in it darkens. it looks like someone has turned off a light in the room.
Is anyone is experiencing this or knows of any tweaks?
I have the same issue.
uncheck auto brightness from settings-display
this still is happening even with the main camera/front camera doesn't seem to be an issue with the auto brightness any other ideas?
Same here, any camera app I use presents this issue. With only low light or indoors. This is the first phone I've owned where it has done this and I'm coming off of nexus 5 and the s3 before it.
I really hope(because I am rooted/custom ROM) that this can be calibrated on a rom type of level and not permanent bc of hardware.
Same issue with Moto G Turbo Edition...
set the Anti-flicker setting to 60 Hz.
There! Something just happened! Did you take a picture of it? Rate this thread to express how fast the Honor 8 can go from "zero to picture". A higher rating indicates that launching the camera app and taking a photo is extremely fast such that you never miss an important moment, like when your cat attacks the couch again.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
The speed is very ...very fast. There is a setting to use the tap feature to take picture, half the time that I am fondling with the device when I have the camera up, the phone is taking pictures. Fair to see....it is on point with no delay. Than again, such is matter with perspective. I may be happy with a second delay while the next person may not be.
One time, I found that my friend can take a gif by using his camera, any one has an idea?
" I saw a flying horse today!"
No one will disbelieve your observation because you quickly pulled out your Honor 8 and double pressed the volume down button and snapped a picture in 0.9-1.2 seconds.
If your screen off just use the method mentioned above: duoble press the volume down.
Also you can set the fingerprint button to launch camera app which could be useful when you are using other apps.

I guess you have it set so if you open up the camera and swipe left to settings than the ultra snapshot is turned on either with taking picture or just starting the camera.
Did you try restart the phone or anything else?
I just had the same problem. It was turned on in the camera app but instead of snapping a picture it just turned on the screen. I long pressed volume down and then tried pressing it twice and it worked again. I have no idea what happened.
Camera launch speed is very fast. It beats my compact camera both in launch and focus speed. I have set the smart key to launch the camera app which is a huge time saver. Want to take a picture? Just press the fingerprintscanner and away you go, super fast!
very fast and i can take pictures quickly
Fast enough
I think its not the fastest but for me it is fast enough... so I am satisfide with it for now..
Takes about a second to open. This includes unlocking phone with fingerprint from standby. It is very fast.
I agree - any faster and I wouldn't be able to take advantage of it because I'd still be in the process of turning the phone to landscape position and framing my shot.
I can take many stolen shots with this.
fast enough to capture all the moments
camera launch and shutter speed is fast.
Fast and minimal blur.
I have noticed that when I take a selfie, and then click on it to view it, it displays normally for a second, but then auto-blurs the selfie. I don't actually like that- I'd rather see the real image, not a beauty-filtered one. How can I turn off whatever mechanism is doing this?
Are you talking about the blur/bokeh in portrait mode or face retouching? Portrait mode will blue the background while keeping the subject in focus. There is also an icon on the top left corner of the camera that looks like a face with a star on it which adjusts face retouching. Options are off, natural or soft. This is on both camera and portrait mode.
Additionally for photos you've already taken in portrait, when viewing them in the camera roll there are two copies of the image and you can toggle the bokeh/blur on and off.
