For those who want to delete annoying ringtone or alarm sounds from stock one, here is a simple solution to change it
You need : Root Explorer / Root Browser
1. Go to root.
2. Open system/media/audio
3. (See, there are 4 folders : alarm, notification, ringtone, and ui) Choose folder that you want.
4. If you don't like the sound from that folder, just delete it. If you want to give your own sound, just copy it to the folder that you chose. But i recommend your sound file type is ogg vorbis. You can download Audacity from (http://audacity.sourceforge.net) to helps you convert the sound file
5. (Important) If you choose ui folder and want to change the system sound, don't forget to change your new sound's name like the old one!
5. Done!
After that, if you have problem about ringtone loop, see my thread below

Can it be done without root?
I have a new GT i9100G which is not rooted and as of this time I do not wish to void the warranty. So, my question is, can this be done without rooting my device? If not, will using Odin to root the device (flashing a kernel) set the counter to 1, and if so, how do I reset it without a jig?
PS. I hope I am not posting this in the wrong place and apologize if I am.
wow thanks for this simple guide, been lookin for this

Still visible in the menu...
Thanks a lot for the guide bro!
I got another question. I removed all those annoying sounds I never used and never will, the way you showed, but when I open the alarm menu or ringtone menu, they are still visible.
How do I remove them from there too? I wiped cache and Dalvik cache, but they are still there although there are only 3 alarm sounds left, the list of sounds in the alarm menu is still the same...
A really simple thing to do.
I wonder why people fail at times..
Anyways, Good Guide. Will help lots of people.
thankx for it was got bore with that old sound

Never mind... Problem solved... In the beginning, even after deleting the sounds I didn't want, they were still visible in the menus. If I selected them they would be mute of course... Today, somehow they disappeared from the menus as welI don't know if out was due to my constant rom modding or what. It beats me...

Once you are done with removing/adding the ring tone, restart your phone. It will update the new list.

the way to update the ringtone list is just restart your phone, or you could edit the ROM zip file first, before you flash it in your phone.

Thanks for answering my post. Using SU-BB installer, I was able to get root without changing the counter (I hope) so now I can use your method to get rid of the sounds I never use and do not like.
I've added sounds to the notification folder earlier but the notification volume is much lower than what the original volume of those tones. Any way to fix it ?

Use Audacity: It's free, and open source!
If your GT-S5830 has only one speaker (mono), you can, if your audio is stereo, create a mono track which should help somewhat. Audacity>new>open your file> tracks> stereo to mono. You can also use audacity to boost the db of the of the audio signal (take care not to cause clipping). Audacity>effect>amplify.
Hope this helps.

persistent irritating original ringtone!
My friend, please help me out. I have a problem with my rooted Huawei mediapad s7-931u device. i dont know why whenever i use/ install hisuit driver, the ringtone of the device gets back to its original (irritating!) one. off course, the name of the ringtone in my device is the one I have chosen, but that does not ring and the original one is played. I have tried to not use hisuit but still when i install a new app or use Superuser app, the ringtone changes to its original one!!!
you know what's funny! i looked all four audio folders to find that ... sound but it wasnt in any of them to be DELETED or what.
Please help me out! it's really going on my nerves now!
by the way, i forgot to make a ROM back up! oops. actually i tried but i couldnt. please tell me what to do.
Thanks a million.

@haynesr07, did you do a complete wipe? several times even? Sometimes stuff can leak through from your last rom and mess with your settings in your new rom, try clearing everything a couple times (2 or 3 times per item) and flash again
Also if you restored any data, that might be it, I've seen weird problems when people do that...I don't think this issue is rom specific though or it wouldnt be stable enough to be released

This is the current build props i use. Leave out the Bootanimation one if you want to keep your boot animation. Do not edit buildprop if you have no experience. Look up the proper way to use them, Dreamlogix explainsto use rom toolbox above. Dont add all in. Check if value exists and change to the new value. If an entry is missing add it but dont assume its not there because double entries cause issues and if you mess up your build prop you might not boot. Have the rom file ready in case. One would need to dirty flash to get back to current install or a backup. If on a custom kernel after reinstalling rom, run kernel cleaner and reinstall kernel. Gapps will work on the dirty install without reinstalling them.

I confirmed this morning that ktoon kernel (12/29) breaks audio (pandora, google music, 8tracks, etc) while stock kernel is fine on 1/1 nightly (clean flashed). On stock kernel, BT audio (google music) will play ok for 10-20 secs and then start fading in and out at a faster playback speed. You can reset this by making a phone call, but then you get another 10-20 secs of good audio before it starts up again. Someone should mention this on the dev thread at some point.
Also: if you're having problems with stock 1/1 nightly...do a clean flash. all my problems went away.

Update2: Xprivacy is the bad guy not xposed framework. I'll head over there to see whether we can get it running
Edit/solution: As soon as xposed framework gets completely removed (not just disabling modules) the lags are gone...
Hi there,
as of lately I can't find a touchwiz camera which doens't incredibly lag when using its settings. For example choosing a shooting mode takes for ages as the scrolling doesn't work properly. This is highly annoying because if you want to take a certain photo in a certain situation you find yourself stuck waiting for the scrolling to complete so that you can choose low light shot or whatever.
This scrolling lag is only visible in the stock camera settings. I've tried different roms and different samsung camera.apks. also some from xda which mere modded.
Is it maybe because most cameras have their bitrate increased and therefor the app can't really handle it? but then again shouldn't other people face the same problem?
Help is greatly appreciated.
I wrote about it couple weeks ago unfortunately no one replied I also noticed camera menues lag like crazy.... Don't know how to solve it... I don't remember it was like this ALWAYS?? I use stock/rooted/xposed framework

In shortcut master lite search "thermal" - two results should be returned. Select the following option (should be the second result returned): com.lge.hiddenmenu.thermalsensor.ThermalMitigation

I was getting tired of hearing the camera shutter sound when taking photos, so I dug around the file system and found two audio files that are the shutter sound. I renamed these, rebooted, and everything is working great. Let me know if this does or doesn't work for you!
Before you get started, you need to be rooted for this method.
Step 1:
Use a root-capable file browser of your choice (I prefer SolidExplorer) and navigate to /system/media/audio/ui
Step 2:
Locate cam_snap_0.ogg and camera.click.ogg and rename the file extensions to .OLD, as seen below.
Step 3:
Reboot, then test
Alternatively, (non-root) you can set your phone to vibrate or silent mode and it wont make the shutter sound.

Not all of us keep our phone on silent all the time, and most of us don't want to think about turning the volume down every time we take a picture. If we never care to have the shutter sound, why not just disable it completely?

It onyl changes the name. It does not affect the contents of the file in anyway. It will fail a HASH check though so revert it back in order to do an update to another OS if you are stock.

You still have your G4 or are you just sticking around to be helpful?

Just hanging around, I have a 6P now.
thanks for this! for some reason Tasker doesn't recognize when the Camera is started so the Silent method is weak... and while G4 TweaksBox would be nice, I'm also having issues getting the unlocker to work. Emailed dev and am waiting for a response...
EDIT: looks like renaming doesn't work for me... interesting...
EDIT2: created silent versions of the two files and now... we have silence!
