I have a kindle fire hd 7 running 7.5.1 and am unable to root it. I've tried multiple methods and each time during the process, it says "...access denied" during some of the steps, but always finishes "successfully." Adb detects it and some commands bring back "access denied" or "ui connection timeout." Am I doing something wrong, or missing something?

Hi, I have KFU installed to my C:\ and when I start with run.bat, it detects the kindle and says:
ADB: Online
Boot Status: Unknown
If I press option 2, then it says it is rebooting into fastboot, but reboots back to the normal kindle screen. The KFU just hangs on <waiting for device>.
I think its an issue with the drivers.
At the moment, I can get to a stage where there is something under "Android Device" which says "Android Composite ADB Interface". But there is also another device under "Portable Devices" that just says "Kindle". The SD card of the device shows up in My Computer and I can go into the folders. When I right click and update the driver for that to the ADB drivers, I then get 2 devices under "Android Device" and both says "Android Composite ADB Device".
Can anyone help me here? My device in Device Manager says it is USB/VID_1949&PID_000A&REV_0216&MI_01.
Is this the correct device for use with KFU?
Thanks
Is your kindle a first gen? That would be my question. What system version is it?
When I go into Settings -> Device -> About, it tells me the System Version is: 10.2.4_user_xxxxxxx
How can I tell if its 1st gen or 2nd? I'm assuming 2nd gen cant be rooted?
Okay wrong root method, wrong driver, wrong forum everything here will brick you permanently. Go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1789 . Read this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1928866. Be thankful someone caught you before you had a really fancy paper weight.

OK, excellent!
I still have the box here and it says Kindle Fire. Now mention of Kindle Fire 2.
Thanks guys! I'll try the other forum.
You have a second generation device I`m just stating the facts live and learn. Rooting isnt to bad but there are no roms and a custom recovery is still sketchy this root method here works http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2075959. First start by uninstalling the driver you installed as it is pointless.
The kindle fire 2nd generations are not officially marked on the box and they look identical to a first gen that's why you need to check which version it is under devices in settings. Kindle fire first generation i think runs 6.0-6.3 also second generation kf's including the hd's have locked bootloaders. If you plan on doing any hacking to your kf other than rooting, aka running a custom rom i would suggest using a first gen kf as their bootloaders are unlocked and much easier to run custom roms and ui's on

Kindle Fire
So I have looked on how to root kindle fire(6.3.2) and when I try it GoogleUSB drivers(from KFU) doesnt work and always fails.
Anyway to get it to work?
Thanks in advance
Error messages?
Can you give us the error message and Windows version? I have seen some problems with XP preventing the drivers from installing.
I was stuck for some reason on Kindle fire logo so I installed a stock rom and now I am stuck on Kindle Fire logo. KFU doesn't recognize it no matter what i do but i does say"exec '/system/bin/sh' failed: No such file or directory (2)", I do have drivers installed btw. Kindle unbrick utility doesn't recognize it either. I tried Soupkit but I get error "Unable to open MTP device" when I select most of the option then the terminal goes has a infinite seizure. I was thinking of buying a factory cable but I am not so sure it will work anymore...
Same problem with me what does a factory cable do?

this is a COPY/PASTE of my own post. the files i specify are the exact names, just search this section of X-DA for them. SEE BELOW.
i had the same problem with the "red screen of death" as well. i found that if i installed the "Minimal ADB and Fastboot" and / OR (i did the minimal first.... ) KFHD_SRTv1.3.5 and RUN THE APP FIRST, then when it says "waiting for device" you then plug in the ALREADY OFF tablet it then WORKS!! says "fastboot mode" on the tablet. and it is listed in device manager also.
i got BOTH apps here at this board in this section.
WARNING: i run windows XP with all updates as of 10-31-2017 (pm me for info, 2 lines of text!! ) . NEWER windows versions have "permission issues". fixes are posted in multiple topics here in the Amazon 7" Kindle Fire HD, 8.9" Kindle Fire HD, Kindle Fire 2 section. READ THEM!!
