you don't need any app, that is built-in function.
Go to settings => more networks => tethering => mobile hotspot => turn on and press it, there you have password for wifi

I have tried this pal but when I do it connects fine but then I loose Internet on the phone and the pc.

try the usb tethering and see if that works. if not maybe you have wifi power save option turned on or try different ROM

On of the things that goes amiss in these cases is that you may need to recheck your default Access Point Name for Internet Services.
Just make sure that your default APN for internet is selected in
Settings / Connections / More Networks / Mobile Netowrks / Access Point Names / List of APNs

htc wifi router installed, now internet not working

I got the htc wifi router working and surfed for a few minutes. I logged out of my PC and back in and the internet wouldnt work on my PC or my phone. I rebooted my phone and still the same problem. Has anyone else run across this problem? How do I fix it/troubleshoot it? 3G is showing it is connected
Has anyone else had this problem? I had to finally do a hard reset/wipe to get things working again.
There's another similar report here, maybe in the cdma area.
I'm not clear on your issue. Is this wmwifi not working after a reboot or Activesync not recognizing after the reboot?
And are you using the latest wmwifi?
edit: I'm adding that I downloaded the latest wmwifirouter last friday 18sep09, and I thought it was a vpn/wifi issue on my laptop. My TP2 did not recognize under activesync after I did a few things, but WM did work the one time I tested it.
I am not using wmwifi. I am using HTC CM Internet Sharing:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=4170499#post4170499
I figured it was put out by HTC (and free) so it should work right?
It created the wifi access point fine, and I was able to surf with my laptop at good speeds. I left and came back and the internet would no longer connect (laptop or phone).
I tried everything from soft rebooting, to removing the application, to calling *228 (reset the phone), and even manually setting up the verizon data settings. Nothing worked. I just could not establish a data connection.
Finally I gave up and did a hard reboot and restore and it finally worked.
I really need a reliable way of setting up a wifi access point but dont want to risk this fiasco again.
Yeah, I mis-read your first post, sorry!
For me it was as simple as starting the wifi router program and then cleanly stopping it. If forced to quit, you will have no network access. It's happened a couple times for me.

Hi there, I had used htc wifi router a while back and hadnt tried connecting the phone to the local wifi network since. After reading your post, I thought I'd check and yes I was getting the same problem, i.e. it wouldn't connect to my home wifi network.
I found the fix to be as follows:
1) Go into comms manager, turn WiFi on
2) Under settings go to wireless LAN
3) In the main tab you will that the SSID is set to "Mobile router", select change network button underneath.
4) Now you should see the SSID of your network, dont select anything, just press o.k at the top and hey presto it will connect.
Let us know if this worked.

Thanks. I couldnt connect to the internet through 3G either though, even though the 3G icon was showing in my status bar.

Ah, that's probably for some other reason, no issues with 3G connection for me.
Same problem for me. I connect to the mobile through wifi (Adhoc connection) and the mobile is connected in 3G but I can't surf internet from my laptop.
Enable DHCP
Hi all
Sometimes after using this software you need to renable DHCP in the connections settings. This can be done via:
Start>Settings>Connections>WiFi>Wireless Networks>Network Adaptors>NE2000 Compatible Ethernet Adaptor and then select Use server-assigned IP address.
Cheers

WiFi help

Hy. I bought my defy one week ago and I have noticed some inconsistencies with the WiFi function. I got it tot work on a public network in a restaurant on the first try. At home however everything seems so random : I got it to connect to WiFi 5-6 times eventhough I don't have a router but most of the times I get the : "connection detected" notification but no internet access ( when i select the network in the wifi settings it says the signal is excellent ).
My modem is a Huawei EchoLife HG520s, I am running windows 7 x32, my phone was not rooted and i didn't make a blur account.. that doesn't work either.
I would really appreciate your help.

You are getting wifi signal at home but do not have a router? You mean a wifi router? If that's the case maybe you are picking up wifi signals from someone else's router and you cannot connect because you need to sign on? If you are having trouble getting on your own router, could you tell us what it is etc.?
You didn't set up a Blur account? Or you did and it doesn't work? Where are you located? If you tried to set it up and couldn't it may be because some markets (I hear) do not support Blur. For instance, there are some models of Defy that do not have Blur and that's probably why.
Sorry i should have made it clearer: i have not bought any kind of router but the modem i use could have a wifi router incorporate(i don't know if it does i lost its documentation).
I live in a house with no nearby sources of wifi and both networks (the one i use to connect to the internet from my pc and the wifi i find if i scan wth my phone have the same name)
I live in Romania and everytime i try to set up a Blur account and click the start button it cancels.

Is there any way you can temporarily disable your modem's wifi security just so you can get on to see if that works? Make sure to turn it back on after, this is just to see if that's the cause of the trouble.
Also about setting up a Blur account - did you try that at home, or at an open Wifi area (eg. the restaurant)? If it doesn't work at home then I guess it's worth trying it at the restaurant or any other place where you can get the connection to work.
Well the network i get here at home is 'open' and i get a connection everytime.. just no internet access on my phone and the computer doesn't seem to recognise the connection (happen exactly he same even on the times i had internet access)

exactly what happened to me. is not a router's problem but a DNSes problem.
you must enter the router and disable the "automatic DHCP". enter in the settings of the phone, wifi, advanced DNS settings automatically if not found. and it work.
P.S. after this if you have problems with your computer, right click the connection, and then do "problem solving". good luck ...

the only problem is that I can't seem to find a router in my devices.. i have a internet modem that might have a wi-fi router incorporated
How does the computer connect to the modem if it uses USB i'm not too sure what you can do but if it uses ethernet what I recommend you do is click on start, and type in "cmd" when this loads type "ipconfig /all" this will then bring up all the details of your connection. What you are looking for is the default gateway, this will be the address of your router. With this add "http" and the default gateway number into a browser, you should then be able to get into the routers config and then you can follows powertony84's guide.
Well i'm pretty sure the network I connect to with my phone is mine because i just changed its security level to WEP using bobdigby advice. But I got lost afterward.
I have attached a prinscr of the DHCP setting i can fiddle with and i really appreciate your help so far
Any idea what channel i should use? i got a tip to chage the channel but i don't know into which one
I don't use any router but I turn my laptop, which supports wifi, into a wifi hotspot so that my defy can use wifi within my apartment. It's wonderful!

[Q] Internet pass through

Does anyone know if it's possible to use this when using your phone as a WIFI hotspot, or does the hotspot only use your data connection? Cheers
I'm not sure what you're asking, but the Wifi hotspot option only allows you to share your phone's 3g connection with wireless enabled devices. If you're on Orange they've probably blocked it by default so you need to configure it.

He is asking if he can forward the Internet connection from the PC using a USB cable (Internet Passthrough mode) and further pass it to other devices using the WiFi hotspot feature IN THE SAME TIME

Yeah, that's what I want to do. Picked up an iPad 2 on Friday, but don't have WIFI at work. Was hoping to share my PCs internet connection instead of using my data.
I'm in the same boat. No wifi at work and would like to share my pc's interenet through the phone's as a wifi hotspot. Theoritically this should be possible. Any third party softwares which allow this?
Hmm, cant test it now due to some reasons but it's possible to use your phone as a wifi card.
For example connect your phone to wifi and activate usb tethering. Now your on the wifi nework with your pc.
I think that yours should be possible too
Tapatalked with Tapatalk from my Desire HD using Tapatalk.
I'm trying to do the opposite, not usb tethering, rather internet passthrough. Basically I want to use the phone as a wifi router (but not using mobile network as the source of net).

Unfortunately , I guess , this couldn't be possible , because when HTC Desire HD device is connected via " Internet pass through " , the internet connection is neither 3G , nor WIFI . I can't be a hundred percent sure that this is right , but as far as you know there are some GAMELOFT games , which require downloaded CACHE/DATA for playing them . This downloading could be possible , when your device has been connected to Internet , no matter 3G/4G or WIFI .
Once I tried via " Internet pass through " to download this DATA/CACHE files ,but there appeared a notification saying Im neither 3G , nor WIFI connected . So I couldn't succeed in downloading the files . ( I've tried many games , yet has never managed to download DATA/CACHE game files via "Internet pass through" )
My opinion is that WIFI-HOTSPOT can be activated only when you are connected via 3G/4G/WIFI network . But anytime you want , you could try if it is possible via "Internet pass through" be established a WIFI-HOTSPOT
: ))
Create a txt file "qaWifiOnlyMode.txt" and inside write FALSE , put in the root of your sd ... and the game will ask your permission to use carrier network , if internet pass through are active will use the USB connection
(sorry bad english, i'm drunk)

[Q] Connecting to internetless wifi

Hi i used to create my own hotspots when i still had ADSL from my windows 7 machine. All my phones tablets other PC's would connect to it with no problem whatsoever.
I have found other uses for wifi networks that do not require an internet connection. Now seeing as i do not have an internet connection on my computer and some of these that i use only work if the network is not started by the phone, the hotspot has no internet connection.
This is where I think Android says screw the wifi without an internet connection lets use cellular to do things. The error it throws up is "Avoided Poor Internet Connection".
Is there a way to fix this without connecting the hotspot to an internet connection & without rooting or modding my M8?

Settings > Wifi > advanced
turn off auto-switch to mobile network
This should help
Another one in developer settings (however not ticked by default)
Settings > developer options
turn off aggressive wi-fi to cellular handover
These should help you if not already enabled. If they aren't then I'm afraid I don't know

Initially I connected it to my home wifi and everything was working fine until the next day, it wasn't showing or locating my home wifi connection! My neighbors' connections were located even thise which are far away!
All of my other devices are detecting my wifi connection and are connecting and my SSID isn't even hidden!

Forget the network through Android settings, reboot the router and the device and report back.

Have you rebooted the router itself? Also have you tried changing the SSID?
