[Q] Bricked HTC Desire HD, Nothing seems to work. - Desire HD Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey there,
Lately i have been trying to flash a Cyanogenmod 11.1 (unofficial rom), but as you read this on XDA you already now it failed.
I have an HTC Desire HD, and have CWM installed, But am not rooted since it was unrooted when CWM was installed. When i tried to flash the rom i first did the usual stuff (wiping data, dalvik and battery stats). and after that i tried to flash it, but the installation aborted because of error 1(not sure if it was 1 or 7).
From that point i cant do anything with my phone except going into the HBoot menu, and going into recovery.
When i just power up the phone i shows the HTC booting logo, and after that it automatically goes to CWM.
In the Hboot menu it shows me:
**** UNLOCKED ****
ACE PVT SHIP S-ON RL
HBOOT-2.00.0029
MICROP-0438
RADIO-26.14.52.27
eMMC-boot
Dec 22 2011, 14:28:19
And i can select Fastboot, recovery, factory reset, simlock or image crc.
I tried flashing some other roms, but all of them failed. I also tried a few different RUU's but these also failed..
Hope someone can help

Can you access bootloader? If so, you're not bricked.

Thank you very very much. it's starting the boot from the jelly rom!

Your best bet is to flash an old recovery..cwm 2.3- then flash cm 7. Getting to cm 7 can help pc see the phone

If you are still having this problem, i recommend installing a rom from cwm and then (since you're s-on) going to your computer, opening the rom zip, taking out the boot .img, then going into bootloader on your phone going down to fastboot then plug it in to your computer and fastboot flash the boot.img. fastboot tutorials are all over youtube.

not really. how do u know what hboot he has? revolutionary only works with hboot 0.93 and1.02.
and then flash hboot? why? it depends on what rom he wants to use. theres more to learn before that anyway.
at OP, turn off ur phone then press & hold volume down + power and then post what it says in bootloader. click the desire all things root guide in my sig, everything u need is there for setting up ur computer with hboot drivers, ul need these IF u have to use revolutionary and also theres simple guides to gain s-off + root, whatever ur hboot.
Hey,
(Sorry for my bad english I hope you can read it!)
Yesterday my aunt gives me her old htc Desire. I unlocked the bootloader with the tools from htcdev.com and install CWM over fastboot. I´ve tried to install some Roms, but they don´t run really. So I restore the backup from the stock Rom that I made with CWM. But now my phone is running very bad. Sometimes it boots, sometimes it crashed by the htc picture. Freeze there and after 10 - 20 Secound it reboot and freeze again.
What are my mistake? Do I need S-Off or is Bootloader Unlocked the same? What must I do that I can install Roms so that they run?
Thank you,
timia2109

You probably tried to install roms that need an ext partition, or you did not wipe before flashing a rom.

I want to install this (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1223996) Rom, I have a ext3 partition, and I've made a full wipe. I think the problem is in every Rom, I must do something wrong :/

The ext3 partition is 1 GB big and I've done it with GParted as logical partition and it's the second partition.
I´ve successfull downgraded the hboot from 1.03 to 1.02 and now my phone dosn´t stay on. I see the lockscreen about 3 second than it crashed and turns off and try to boot again. The bottom of the phone get hot, but the battery is cold.

You should give some more info:
- Do you always enter this menu, cause your volume down button could be pressed all time.
- The device shows relocked, did you install custom ROMs before?
- Before you want to flash custom ROMs you have to unlock and flash a custom recovery.

Have you downloaded and installed the proper drivers for the PC?
Then on your PC open a command prompt in your fastboot folder connect the phone to the PC.
On your device you should see USB next to the red fastboot (in the first image you posted)
Now what does the command "fastboot getvar all" return (you enter that in the command prompt of your PC)?
You can copy paste it here, but mask your IMEI and Serial no.
IMPORTANT! Make sure your device has enouth battery. Your device is not charging in Fastboot, but you can use a script that does that, only takes a minimal half a day to charge (maybe more)
I added a zip with fastboot and a command file with the script (run it in fastboot, your device will be rebooting all the time, but in the time it reboots it will be charging a bit).

If you are pretty new to this, read the sticky threads of this forums (about flashing) before doing anything, cause it's better to understand what you are doing before doing something stupid
You also said you don't want to install a custom ROM, but the device has been relocked, so probably you or someone already tried to install a custom ROM and thats where it went wrong.

If you want to flash it with an original RUU, your bootloader needs to be locked, and you need an original (stock) recovery.
For some devices it's hard to find a RUU so first we need to figure out which (region) the device is from and what is the base version. That can we do with the fastboot command:
Code:
fastboot getvar all
If we exucute this command we get all kind of system-info like CID, version-main, below you see my outut:
Code:

If it is possible to go back via RUU then I would recommend it, but yes if it is not possible, you can choose a nandroid backup way (if you can find a nandroid for your CID and version-main).
He doesn't need a nandroid backup specifically for his CID. All wwe 4.18.401 nandroids work on his phone !!!
Only thing he must NOT do is relock the bootloader !
So basically it's down to this :
1: download any 4.18.401 nandroid backup
2: flash the recovery.img and boot.img from the nandroid backup folder
3: boot in the recovery and perform a good full wipe
4: restore the nandroid backup
5: flash back the stock recovery to be able to install official htc ota in the future
Here more info and back ups

[Q] What is the safest way to gain S-off on HTC DHD?

Friends
I have a HTC Desire HD, with the following specs:
CyanogenMod 11-20140804-unofficial/M9-ace
Android 4.4.4
It has TWRP as recovery
SHIP S-ON RL
HBOOT-2-00-0029
RADIO-026.14.04.28_M
I want to install a new port from Mustaavalkoista, but before that I want to make my phone s-off.
But I am struggling doing that, so wanted to ask for some ideas how I can best proceed. I do not want my phone bricked.
Thanks for good suggestions,
Calle

Thanks, marknoll. I looked at that thread and at the various options for getting s-off and it seems that it is not easily done.
I know how to install a updated ROM without having s-off so I just have to stick to that method then.
Thanks

S off is feasible.

Sorry, I have forgotten what happened and it is a while ago.
Anyay here is my latest to your suggestion on that thread
:
Do you want me to run the script mentioned and forget about the latter part, the flashing of the current Phiber 2000?
It says I have to have:
- original ROM
Original boot image ( this is not the HBOOT)
original Recovery
Not sure if I have those?
It says I need a formatted card. I do, with data and a functioning Cyanogen installed. Will that script wipe it?
Sorry about all the questions.

Thanks, friend
I do think I do not dear to try it as I do not have much spare time to fix things in case it goes wrong. I can live with the s-on for now.
Thanks anyway for your good suggestions.
Have a blessed Spring

Hi Marknoll and thanks for your follow up. I appreciate that.
I wrote one of the guys you mentioned but have not heard back. I am not pursuing this actively but if someone gives me some good ideas I might still try them.
Thanks
Calle
Did you ever scope out the aahk2 thread yet?
Thanks
Yes, I did but I found it to be too risky to try, so I did not want to pursue it.

Thanks for the suggestion.
I had already downloaded the Windroid Universal Android Toolkit but am not sure how to use it. I have wondered what the gold card is all about. They say on those pages that it can get s-off on HTC HD's but no-one really explains how to do it.
Anyway, I will not be able to do anything until later next week as I do not have the computer handy on which I have tried to get the HTC to have s-off.
Thanks

Thanks for the help!
Sorry for my bad English, I'm Hungarian!
Old firmware probably, you likely need to go back to stock and wait for all ota updates . BTW, this should be in q and a not general

I can't back to stock because, not have original rom, firmware and ruu for this M8. It's a DE phone supposedly, but i can use it from Hungary with my Hungary sim card.
I wanna try to upgrade once and the phone bricked and i install twrp and a stock rooted rom from android revolution hd.
You'll probably run into problems if your firmware is out of date. S off may get you out of a hole

By DE you mean Developer's Edition? But your top post says T-MOB101.
If you don't know what your version is, you'll never get an RUU to work.
You can restore to stock nandroid from the collection posted on these threads, but again you need to know your correct CID version.
Do fastboot getvar all, and post the output (be sure to delete IMEI and serial numbers, as these are personal info) and we may be able to determine your actual CID version.

Thanks! I thought that might be the case, but it was ambiguous. That's why its best for folks to be specific and detailed when asking for help!
To OP, still need getvar output to properly identify the right stock nandroid.

It sounds like you are trying to do 2 different things:
- Flash the ROM zip in TWRP
- Flash the RUU (s-off required)
Which is it? You need to make up your mind, and understand the difference between the 2.

"Wrong image" means you are trying to run an RUU that doesn't match your CID. You need s-off to change CID.

Try downloading the ROM zip to eliminate the possibility that it was corrupted during download.
Did you cancel the option in TWRP to root the ROM, as directed in the ROM thread?

Which is expected, and clearly indicated in the ROM instructions.
But it sounds like at least on the latest flash attempts, you properly cancelled the root option.
I don't seen much reason for the bugs you are experiencing. Did you try to download the ROM again as previously suggested?

Have you found the RUU as signed Zip or .exe File?
When as .exe you must activate the USB-Debugging on your Phone.
You find this in Settings/Developer/ options.

Why you do not try to update via the bootloader?!
Rename the RUU.zip to 0PKVIMG.zip and when you have copy this Zip on your external microSD, you can Flash.
Okay I hope also that it is the correct RUU for your device but it does not work then contact the HTC Support.
I've done it in the past often and I was helped.
Sure NAAS1, when you have again questions then write here.
Best regards,

Edit: @NAAS1, have you also on your device the correctly Stock recovery or the TWRP??? You need the Stock recovery for a Factory Reset in the Bootloader !
Thanx for help, i solved my problem flashing rom.zip in fastboot. I have to used Htc Fastboot.
