Hi All
I have a couple of quick questions regarding rooting my Galaxy tab s 10.5 T800 Wifi:
Can I install TWRP recovery without the tablet being rooted?
There are some builds listed in the Android Development section, where it states that its rooted, debloated and de-knocked. Does this mean that they can be flashed without rooting the tablet and tripping knox.
Thanks for your replies, still trying to get my head around this.
I posted this in Android development but think it was in the wrong post, if a mod reads this can you please delete it from there.
Custom recoveries like twrp trip knox no matter what. The custom roms will trip knox even if rooted becuase twrp is a custom recovery which trips knox.
Thanks mate

HI
I am new to xda community and to android community as well.
I want to root my phone n7100.
Note: 1. My warranty is up (here it is for one year )
Note :2. Don't care if knox counter shows x,y,z, etc after flashing.
After going through many threads in the forum. Everything boils down to the following choices of rooting:
1. Directly flashing CF-Autoroot using Odin, this will keep intact the stock recovery along with providing root access and installing Supersu.
2. Flash Philz touch recovery and then install via the recovery the supersu zip file for gaining access to the root.
My question is which is the best way to go about rooting since I'll be taking away the root virginity of the my N7100.
PS: I also want to keep my options open to flashing custom rom (probably at a later date )
Thanks and sorry if such a question if already posted.
Just various different questions on if I could or couldn't do under the KNOX firmware.
Yes I've read around but unfortunately most information regarding 4.3 fw and knox are
in other device threads ( Specifically on how to work around KNOX when flashing).
I've also read thorough and around CNexus's thread regarding FAQ on KNOX.
These questions are more info for me whether to decide if I can flash different kernels or
AOSP based roms specifically on d2spr. I want a device having better stability and great battery life.
I could care less regarding tripping the counter or warranties as long as I can use my device and
not have to spend so much time charging the battery or turning it off completely because it's being a prick.
So onto my first set of questions, it's regarding stock TW firmware.
( Shout out and thanks to K1mu for I used his rooting method. )
Can I install custom recoveries or will KNOX not let me do that?
If I can, could I flash kernels or will KNOX not allow me to?
And if I can, will KNOX make the device unstable under the custom kernel?
By unstable i mean FC apps, Apps that require root will not work properly, etc.

My second set of questions is regarding flashing AOSP under KNOX.
As the above stated about recoveries, Can I still flash AOSP based roms under the knox bootloader?
And will I be able to have a custom kernel on AOSP?
I'm currently fully stock TW MK3 with latest firmware and after doing a lot of digging regarding knox.
I'm kinda stuck at the moment, For now, i'm just rooted.
Any replies on this is much appreciated.

You can flash anything, including a custom recovery, if you have Knox. The only thing you can't do is Odin a previous version of Android. If you you flash anything in Odin lower than 4.3 then the bootloader is being overwritten and that's when Knox turns your phone into a paperweight.

Thanks for replying metalfan78.
I know downgrading the bootloader will superbrick the device.
Just wanted to know if a custom ROM or kernel would run stable under the Knox bootloader. Because there's no issues regarding that here as seeing issues on other device threads about Knox and flashing other ROMs / kernels.
The Knox bootloader should have no effect on rom/kernel. I haven't seen any correlation being discussed here. All custom roms have that crap removed.

Just remove the KNOX apps as this may cause issues with superSU. Yes, you can flash AOSP ROMs under the KNOX bootloader.
Any reason you want to keep KNOX?

I upgraded from the s ii and the sprint rep OTA updated the phone
without asking me Q's on if I wanted to do it myself.
Lame customer service I tell ya
Ahhh....now worries. Just remove KNOX, root your phone and flash as much AOSP as you can! Good Luck!
Is there a way to root 4.3 without tripping knox and counter?

I have the Galaxy S3 I747 rooted with CF auto-root (I used the instructions on the second post of this thread:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1963790) and the root went great. But now that it's rooted, I can't flash CWM ROM manager recovery because the KNOX security system won't let me. I can't install new ROMs and I keep getting a pop-up that says 'superSU has stopped working.'
Dose anyone know of a way to remove KNOX or of some other solution that will allow me to flash custom ROMs? I've skimmed a lot of the threads in the development forums and the general discussion forums but haven't found any sort of guide that I can understand (I'm a bit of a n00b when it comes to bootloaders and such).

You can de-knox in several ways - from the phone settings; by flashing a pre-rooted and de-knoxed ROM e.g. the modified (stock) MJ2 ROM. You can also flash the knox removal tool which you will find in the thread below which also shows another way to route other than CF-Auto Root.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2538991
Strictly speaking, however, I would doubt Knox is the culprit here. Knox is a security tool designed primarily for enterprise settings and would not stop you from flashing a custom recovery like CWM. I would suggest you re-root via Method 2 in the above thread as CF-Auto Root doesn't always work with stock 4.3.
You can also try flashing other custom recoveries like Philz Touch (enhanced CWM) or TWRP to install custom ROMs.
Hi guys I am new to this tablet so any advice but be appreciated.
If i update to kitkat I am told the knox security feature would be installed too.
What if I leave my note 8.0 on 4.2 and root and use custom roms and then if I decide to unroot and flash kitkat, would knox be triggered due to historic custom roms?

Pretty sure flashing a custom recovery will trip knox. No way around it. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2800290
Ok thanks what if I just root and not flash a custom rom, would this trigger the knox?

It depends on the rooting method you use. The one I used to root 4.4.2 after I updated via Odin was Chainfire's CF-Auto-Root and that tripped KNOX because it installs an unsigned (by Samsung) custom recovery temporarily before re-flashing the stock version.
I've never used Kingo but they claim to be able to root the Note 3 without tripping the KNOX flag so their method using an Android vulnerability to gain temporary root might work for the Note 8.0 as well.
My suggestion would be to use these forums and Google to research all the current methods for rooting the Note 8.0 and make sure there are users who have done it successfully with the KitKat boot loader installed and not tripped the KNOX "warranty" indicator.
Based on the KNOX articles I've read it appears that flashing, or even booting, an insecure kernel can set the eFuse switch which is said to be "impossible" to reverse, so flashing custom kernels and ROM's is out even if you can get root with the stock ROM without tripping the indicator.
I can understand the requirement for KNOX in high security environments but automatically voiding the warranty is just encouraging users to brick their devices in ways that prevent the KNOX flag from being accessed. Perhaps Samsung's position is that once the eFuse flag is set even their service centers cannot reverse it so the device is not able to reconditioned and sold since a tripped KNOX flag also disables some security features in the stock ROM.
Edit: I just read your OP again and if you don't flash the 4.4.2 (KitKat) bootloader and root with CF-Auto-Root you should be fine, even flashing custom kernels and ROM's, and still go back to a completely stock configuration using Odin to install the stock 4.2.2 ROM and TriangleAway to reset the flash counter. AFAIK there is no check of any historical data when the KNOX enabled 4.4.2 bootloader is installed but I would make sure that TriangleAway has successfully reset the flash counter before upgrading just to be safe.

Hello, friends.
I just bought a T700 Tab S 8.4 WiFi and I came here to search for rooting procedures.
I found two or three topics but they don't make clear for what they are appropriate.
I would like to root the 5.0.2 version in this device. It would be great if I could do it without tripping the knox and using the stock rom - no custom.
Otherwise I would downgrade my device just to have root without tripping the knox. The only option I've found, it was for the 10.2 tablet version.

Install TWRP and then flash SuperSU. Yes, Knox will be voided, but enjoy all the wonderful aosp roms!

If it's the only option, I won't proceed. As I said, I don't want to trig the knox neither install a custom recovery. Thanks for replying.
