Android Auto built into Lollipop? - Nexus 7 (2013) Q&A

I use my Nexus 7 for my main head unit in my vehicle. I use lama to trigger certain settings when it connect to the vehicles sound system via Bluetooth. One is to enable car mode. Since updating to Lollipop whenever I am in an app while car mode is enabled if I hit the home button the "Android Auto" splash screen launches (see image). Then crashes back to the app. Getting back to the google now launcher requires opening the the recent apps then pushing the home button.
So is android auto just car mode that will trigger auto apps? If so can we enable android auto on our devices somehow? Or is auto a different os? This would be a nice feature to have on our n7's

I'm seeing this with my Nexus6 setting Trigger App to start car mode. The same splash screen comes up and goes away. After triggering, the notification tray has a "Touch to exit car more" option.
I'm not rooted, but maybe rooting might get it to work?

Ive replicated your scenariio. Same results.

I could be wrong, but I believe all you are seeing here is the Splash Screen that will display on your phone when you have Android Auto connected via USB to the car.
Im not sure that this splash screen is an indication that Android Auto as an interface is hiding on your device.

I've seen the same with Nexus 5 as well.
I keep hitting the back button till I get to the home screen, but that means I spend more time looking at the phone (off the road) than I should.
Has anyone been able to figure out how to disable this, or atleast go to the home screen instead of going back to the current app?
Additional thought: I just checked and realized I use tasker to enable car mode. I guess I can just not enable car mode, but then the question would be.. what is car mode, how is it supposed to work, it doesnt seem to be doing anything on my phone other than disabling the home button
PS: I'm not rooted. Stock Google Play Nexus 5 used on t-mobile.

Android Auto is similar to Apple CarPlay and is a feature to use certain apps via the vehicle screen / buttons. But it requires the vehicle to support this feature.

I see the same behavior on HTC One (m7) GPE, Android 5.01, when I plug it in the HTC Car Kit dock.

[Q] Note 10.1 2014 edition keys do not answer

Hi. My new Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 edition has a major problem: the Home button and back and menu buttons stop working from time to time. Same thing with the on off button that refuses to turn the tablet off. Happens randomly, whenever the pen is in or out. To turn off, I have to plug the tablet on charger, then hold the on-off button for many seconds. Rather annoying. Had the same problem with my other 10.1 2014.... that I scraped trying to change the battery. Any help will be welcome.

Hi,
Mine has the same issue. Reckon it is a factory defect.
However, I'm using Settings -> Device -> Accessibility -> Assistant menu.
With this function, found no problem to navigate around.
Or,
You can use "Pie Control (Pro)" app or "OmniSwitch" app
in order to use the softkey buttons.
Hope this is helpful for you.

YES! Thank you, it works. When I think that when the first 2014 edition had that problem, I was convinced it was a battery defect and I ordered one new. I opened the case following the instructions, but I was unlucky and I broke the connector behind the Home button. Then, trying to unbend (?) the bottom section, il really broke. I now have two spare batteries... Next time, I'll ask the specialists.

Verizon G4 Bugs & Glitches

Hey guys, I've had my phone for a day or so now and just wanted to list some bugs I've found and see if anyone else has experienced them.
When hanging up a phone call my wallpaper is the application settings screen of a random app (reboot fixes)
Sometimes the screen randomly turns itself on
Sometimes after leaving an email (Touchdown Exchange mail) when I press back I am brought to the application settings screen of a random app
When I get a notification and attempt to open it on the lockscreen the lockscreen becomes a rectangle about 3/4 the size of the screen which is empty and I need to swipe within that to open the app that the notification came from
I will add more as I come across them but just wondering if anyone else has experienced those same bugs/glitches. Thanks!
Not a bug but I cant seem to hide folders in my gallery
Verizon g4 here, i have none of those problems except the last one i thought that was normal my g3 did that as well

I guess that's not a bug then per se but it is ugly none the less.
I am having issues with my wifi. It will show connected, but will not connect to internet. If I turn off/on wifi, it will work again. I have tried on a airport extreme and anetgear extender. Same issue on both.
My screen is randomly turning itself on and off very quickly sometimes.
Number three is normal, it's the same on g3. Lg changed it from stick Android where a simple double tap would open the notification. However . If you excited the notifications first, then tapping it goes straight to the app, without swiping.
Hey Verizon people, are you all seeing - when using a lock screen setup (not just swipe) like knock code or pin or pattern - the ugly Emergency Call button?

I'm guessing it's a Verizon thing... I have that on my KitKat Droid Razr M.
I have Verizon and have the Emergency Call on mine as well.
This is going to sound weird but I hope someone can help. Only on my phone and only on WiFi i cant use Amazon. It shows no connection in the app and only lets me go to the sign on screen in the browser. Every other site is functional.

increase wake on time with car engine switched off

Sorry for the poor question, but i'm very newbie of Android Car system and I need your help about this...
I have installed on my Opel Astra J a MTCC RK3188 unit with stock android 5.1.1
I'd like to listen to my music even when the car engine is turned off, but the unit shuts off after about 1 minute, even if I leave the key in the ignition in off position.
In the configuration option there is ACC DELAY time, but this is the time that elapses between the status of the car is turned off (ACC OFF) and the complete shutdown of radio, up to that time the radio goes into deep sleep, in fact if I restart the car the radio switches on at once without doing the startup complete procedure .
I think that this value does not change in any way the time that elapses between the car engine off and the time which the radio can stay up without going into deep sleep.
There a way to change and increase this time, for example to 10 minutes?
How to change and extend this time?
It could be that the mod ROM's gives me more time?
Thanks
You can increase it. It is in the settings.
How can I do this?
In settings I find only the sleep time before completely shutdown, but no option to having the radio on after turning off the engine...
I thought you wanted to tweak the time between sleep and shut down. Seems like you found that one already.
Maybe your car cuts the acc line to the stereo after certain amount of time?
I think the canbus of the car send a signal when I turn the key in off position.
I also think that the radio has powered, because when after about 2 minutes turns off, I can see the "shutdown" toast before it going into sleep (It does the same type of poweroff procedure that it would do if I open a car door when key ignition is switched off).
If the radio was no more supply from the car, I think it would go off without giving any notice.
For these reasons, I was wondering if somehow I could configure this time.

General Verizon 6 pro and Android 12

First off, I Love the phone. Hardware is great, Android 12 is mostly great but there are some weird things I've noticed that haven't really been an issue on previous phones pre-Android 12. I got rid of a OnePlus 8 pro for the Pixel 6 pro.
1: I have to use a Bluetooth to 3.5mm adapter (Bluetooth to auxillary input) on my car to Bluetooth to my stereo. Issue is, the adapter is ALWAYS on and when in range my phone is ALWAYS connected to that adapter. Android 12 gives you the option to quickly switch when you're playing music or watching a YouTube video in the volume slider menu but not say when you're playing a Facebook video, Instagram video or similar. The workaround has been to just completely disconnect Bluetooth which interferes with other devices like my Fitbit and such.

}
2: AOD doesn't come on when it's dark out. I usually get up at around 4am, and of course it's dark in my room. When it's pretty dark, not even pitch black AOD doesn't turn on. It's almost like the phone lacks a proximity sensor and relies souly on a light sensor for AOD. Another scenario was I was out with my family trick or treating tonight, in the suburbs where there was plenty of light and AOD still didn't come on when I pulled out the phone to check the time. Of course this isn't a huge issue, just an inconvenience
3: the lack of ability to set your own lock screen shortcuts. I don't use Google pay, nor do I control devices using the Google home app or shortcut.. it would be nice to set those to whatever I want. To add into that, I do have those both disabled but occasionally the Google home shortcut appears when I click the power button to turn the phone on. If I click it of and back on about 80% of the time it disappears.
I don't want anyone to take these as complaining, just thought maybe I'd chime in on some "issues" I've noticed.

Question can't turn off back to home screen animation in gesture navigation mode, help

I am a new s22 user, I have turned off all animations in the developer settings, all animations are turned off except when you swipe up from the bottom in any open app to go to the home screen, the app screen does a little animation and shrinks into the app icon. it's pretty annoying. it only happens in gesture navigation mode, if you change it to the button navigation bar, pressing the home screen button at the bottom shows no animation. does anyone else experience this? I did all sorts of searches online, but the results are not consistent, it feels like it's a problem related to the android 12 rather than Samsung and many pixel phones have the same issue.
If you want traditional virtual buttons, Galaxy store>Goodlock family of apps>Navstar
One Handed Operation plus is another Good Lock app that allows dozens of swipe gestures switches from the right/left sides. Very customizable and uses almost no battery.

All stock N10+ using the above options. Edge is also active and can be used in conjunction with One Handed Operation plus.
doesn't really answer my question though, do you have s22/android 12 phone? would you be able to confirm for me even all the animations are turned off in the developer setting, the back-to-home/minimize app gesture still shows annoying animation? thanks kindly to anyone who can confirm this for me (so that I know it's a system problem rather than a problem with my phone/software)

Yes this seems to be OS level. I get the same behavior on both my S22 Ultra and Tab S7; both running Android 12. I use Microsoft Launcher on both, so it's not a OneUI (at least I don't think it is) feature. There doesn't seem to be a way to turn it off. At least not without digging in to the OS.
