Dev Unlocked / Jailbroken Surface 2 Windows RT 8.1 - Windows RT General

I have a surface 2 that can run unsigned app.
I cant post at dev forums so this is where I post.
I really dont know where to start from here. But i know that with my device, we can help and hopefully jailbreak, unlock or whatever it is called every device running windows rt 8.1.
do not lose hope.
need some help.

I want to know too! An unlocked Surface 2 would be awesome to have... maybe whoever unlocked it would be willing to unlock more...

somebody with 1 one post who says "jailbreak, unlock or whatever it is called every device running windows rt 8.1." yet you give use a picture that haven't been posted before. I dont know if you are a good PhotoShop:er or a real "hacker". Any real proof would be welcome

You should share your recovery image (make a USB drive and upload it.)

Yes, please do that! But chances are that it has a signed secureboot policy that turns off signature checking, and it is specific to that device.

Mango Update. Files please ????

User hd2leo_fusion post in another thread...
This download contains four files that you will need to update your retail Windows Phone device to the 'Mango' Beta 2 pre-release build.
MangoB2-ZuneClient.zip - ZIP file that contains the install for the pre-release Zune Client 4.8, required to update your Windows Phone retail device and to connect to your device from the Windows Phone SDK tools.
MangoB2-UpdateWP.zip - ZIP that contains the install program(s) that will install updatewp.exe into your Zune client, allowing you to update your Windows Phone to point to the test servers
MangoB2-DevRetailUpdate.zip - Tool that automates the backup and update process so that your retail phone can receive ‘Mango'
Update Instructions - Mango Beta 2 for WPDevs.pdf - Instructions to walk you through the update process. 15 minutes here can save you 4 weeks without a phone.
Finally, one last reminder about reading the instrctions:
Please read the instructions document fully and carefully before you update your retail device. Not properly following these instructions can place your personal phone in an unusable state. Microsoft is unable to assist developers who ‘bricked’ their phone because an instruction step was skimmed or skipped.

Hi all
It looks like those 4 files are the files you need to perform the update !!!!!!
MangoB2-ZuneClient.zip
MangoB2-UpdateWP.zip
MangoB2-DevRetailUpdate.zip
Mango Beta 2 for WPDevs.pdf
And from what i read are device indepented ...so guys ...
Can any one with dev account post those files here please???
Good luck with this. Considering [registered] developers are only allowed to install Mango on a single device I somehow doubt you'll be able to install it as a non-dev just by patching your Zune install.
It's easy like that?
I'm giving it a shot. I have the files, going to see if it works.
I sure hope it does.
P.S. I was sworn to not share the files though. Gotta find ur own
I'll try to search them, too. But if I found them I'll post them here.
Edit: Google doesn't help =/ Seems like nobody has uploaded them, yet.
At least, can you tell us if it worked for you?

I did not say that it will work 100% ...The files are just to patch the zune and send it to find the update in the MS servers ...
Dont forget that register devs are limited to unlock only 1 device ...and all of them have more than one unlocked...
Maybe this will work, for everyone ... maybe ...else why are those files hiden to general public ???

So far so good, installed the "pre-mango" update, no hicups yet.
The only confirmation it has so far is to confirm you have a dev unlocked phone. No dev unlock phone, no update.

Read a few posts up. They aren't my files to share, I'm sure they'll be leaked out eventually, but I'm not going to screw a friend over who gave me them if there is some sort of hidden tracking.
I'll report the progress, but no files.
P.S. seems this update is going to take at least an hour. I'll post back when it finishes. Also, from start to where I am now, it's been pretty painless. And NO i don't have the Beta 2 tools installed, so it apparently works without them, despite what the document says.
Ah, ops, sorry. Okay then.
At least we will know if this will work to everyone when leaked.
Is it official and confirmed that each developer can only update one out of his three devices?

I planned on having them installed eitherway, just that the excitement overcame my ability to remember longer than 20 seconds to install them before kicking off the update lol.
So far still in updating mode... Been about 30 minutes i think, document says 70.
Phone just reset itself, looking at the bug list, it an take 5-45 minutes to restart, we'll see. Hopefully we're done soon.

If you're experiencing errors, please report them either in the thread or PM me.
Please report ANY errors or typos you come across, I made this in 4 hours without a single break, so there's bound to be an error somewhere
What's new:
-Completely rewritten (ACTUALLY written, not VB)
-Even simpler! NO MORE COPYING!
-Even smaller in disk size!
-No tutorial needed! Yes, it's that easy -- just read carefully and don't panic
There's still no way to:
-relock the bootloader
-flash FTF files
_____________________________________________________________________________________________
Note: Inside the Fastboot.rar, there are fastboot drivers for 2012 Xperias. Install them if you dont have them yet. Those are the only useful files you need from that folder, everything else (both adb and fastboot) are already contained in the new BU.zip!
TESTING:
Reported working Windows versions:
Windows 7 x86
Windows 7 x64
Windows Vista x86
WANT TO HELP?
Then test it and report your phone model and windows version (x64/x86, service pack etc.) -- send me a PM
Please do... You can always flash a kernel or recovery.
Thanks for helping me and all those noobs out
About the attachments:
-Fastboot; contains adb and fastboot, plus Xperia 2012 Windows drivers
-BootloaderUnlock; contains the old PMFT - version 2 (kind of useless unless you understand everything it says in there)
-nexus; the NEW PMFT - version 3 -- if you already have the drivers, this is all you need
someone755 said:
I've been getting some questions on PM lately, about 'how to unlock my bootloader'...
So, fed up with those infinite PMs, I quickly put this together (30 minutes, not much).
It's not much, and I've only tested it for one minute, but it should help the average noob user get their bootloader unlocked.
(I've only tested this on a x86 Win7 PC, so please help me find out where this works on.)
So, the basic idea is, that the noob user extracts the attached adb and fastboot .zip file and extracts it to disk C: (I'll make options for other drives later on, I just need to know whether or not this works). The user then opens up the program inside BootloaderUnlock (and installs it), and, after many warnings, gets to a screen where he is told to input his Bootloader unlock code (obtained from Sony's website).
The program then warns the user a little more, just to make sure he understands, and then, two lines of text show up.
The user enters those lines of text into the console window (the fastboot.exe he extracted at the beginning) and Viola!
If all steps have been done correctly, he now has an unlocked bootloader
It's a simple, yet fool-proof concept, tested on a complete phone moron (after reading some instructions on Sony's unlock site).
Please help me test this, as this may be really helpful to those that don't understand FlashTool and don't have an idea how to do it via the official method.
Also, if you don't understand, there are some instructions within the program (written in VB, so you may need NET framework... MAY need it...)
Thanks for helping me and all those noobs out
Note: extract the fastboot.rar to C:, so you will have the fastboot.exe in C:\Fastboot\fastboot.exe
Note: Inside the Fastboot.rar, there are fastboot drivers for Xperias. Install then if you dont have them yet.
Note: The BootloaderUnlock.rar is a visual basic program. Please help me test it on different Windows systems (XP, Vista, 7, 8, 2000; all both x86 and x64)

No it wouldn't. It'll either work or not

Yeah, it's actually the same as Sony's way, this program just tells the user what to write into the CMD window.
You can't brick your phone with this, because it either suceeds or fails. Either gain or no gain (and no loss) for the user...

i think he was referring to:
IF you are so beginner that you aren't able to even unlock your bootloader
THEN you could be so newbie to brick it
That's possible, if you're pointing to the fact they could brick their phone after unlocking the bootloader.
But before the unlock, no, it wouldn't be possible...
But hey, some people might have trouble with windows and are new to it. (I know many linux users that are forced to use windows for their phones that could use tools like this for their phones (not Sony, but others...)...)
So can this way unlock any bootloader even if it says bootloader locked? Thanks
Sent from my LT28i using xda app-developers app
Nope.
Did you not read the first post?

Nothing's changed, basically, so it can't do more and it can't do less!

It's because companies like AT&T give locked down phones away for free with a service contract. That way they can lock some services to make you pay more. For example AT&T makes you pay an additional monthly fee for the use of tethering (only when you use the att stock Rom, it's free on generic version )
From Jaramie's LT28at
2012Xperia SOFT-BRICK Recovery Thread
So I guess it's great in my country;
you don't get a 'free' phone, you pay at least 1€ (depending on the plan you chose; I chose the one where I get to pay 370€ for a nozomi)
You can always trade your phone on Swappa (you have loads of ads on CM's sites and forums) and get an unlockable one...
what is the difference between this tool and this one?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1794800
This one, you can't flash things with, and you don't need a ton of downloads...
Yours is actually a program that uses FlashTool... It has flashtool included in the libs, which means:
1. You download the program AND the giant FlashTool
2. It can flash FTF, IMG and SIN files (because this is flashtool after all...)
I came up with my method for people with bad internet and limited storage...
It actually is the official method, but with a "paste-press-copy-paste" procedure, although the main idea is about the same as all the others...
Basically, every method is based on the official way, but there's a bit of variation here and there...

Let the Noob try it !!
Hey Guys,
I am a Noob and have been trying to unlock my bootloader for about a week now, I have tried a few methods without any joy.
I will give this a go and will report back if it works or not.
Your problem might be one of these, if it doesn't work:
1. Your phone is not in fastboot mode -- did you check that?
2. You don't have the right drivers installed on your PC -- or do you?
3. Your phone's bootloader may not be unlockable -- now, if you didn't check that, you really are a noob.
4. Your unlock code is incorrect -- that was the case with me, but in the end that was the only problem...

Hi,
Thanks for the reply, the problem i have is with the drivers. I have tried different solutions as posted here and on the web.
But still could not get the drivers to work??
I will try this method as it states the drivers are included. If it all works awesome, if not then I fail and will forever be stuck with stock rom's.
Which windows are you running (vista, 7, 8, is it 32 or 64 bit?)?
Also, did you try with FlashTool's drivers?

I'm running windows 7 on a 64 bit laptop.
Tried the flashtool drivers also but still no joy, I check in device management for S1 and each time there is a problem installing the drivers.
I still have a PC running vista so might give that a try if all else fails.
Thanks for your help so far, will keep you updated with how I get on

Problem WP10

Guys hay,
I have questions for problems on 10.
First one is that I have very often Developers crash ( Update & Security/For developers) and cant go inside/I must use "unregister you device using "Windows Phone Developer Registration"...EVERYDAY!
Second is that I don't have Cortana. Cant find app anywhere inside WP.
Third one is problem with WhatsApp. Everyday crash and cant upload video or photo from attach option inside, I must go to Library and share it from there.
Forth is that my shortcuts at down drop meni blink very often and don't response...
I have this issues at every build that I install. Now I have 10240....My WP is Lumia 640 LTE.
A lot of question but try to help me in some of these...
Thank you in advanced!

Is there a way to unlock a SAMSUNG ATIV SE running WIndows 10 mobile 10.0.10563.297

The reason I am asking is I am trying to get the SAMSUNG ATIV SE to the current version that I am running on my ICON 10.0.15254.527. I am trying to see if staying with the ICON is the way to go. I am running into the error 0x80070273 when trying to update to the next version of windows 10 mobile. I saw where the apparent problem is with the OEMInput.xml file and saw on another thread that replacing it with the supplied code in that thread should get you past the update error. I have installed Interop tool app version: 2.0.79.0 on the SAMSUNG and have turned on the Restore NDTKSvc to access the files through my USB on my desktop. I can see the file on my phone thought windows explorer on my desktop but I can't remove or replace the file. Any help or guidance would be appreciated. I am guessing that what I am trying just won't work, but I thought I would ask some people that are smarter than me. Again thanks for the help in advance...
This updating thing is getting old... Just spoof the device to a supported one and voila. Change the devicetargetinginfo to a microsoft lumia with similar specs as yours and done.
That won't get you past the error that I mentioned in the original post
@malacarr1962
You are trying to edit a file in a directory other than Public? Then yes you need to interop unlock the Ativ SE.
To unlock the Ativ SE on W10M, you need to make sure you followed all the steps on guss33000 thread for his IT app. The section of focus is "For all other OEM devices". What steps have you completed already?

Well, I have already installed the Interop Tools 2.0.96.0. As far as the Interop Unlock, all the options are set to off (if I try to move one of them from you can slide it over which assumably would turn the option on, but as soon as you release it the switches moves back to its' original location. SO if I have missed something and you could tell me where I need to go to follow the instructions, that would be appreciated. If I need to hard rest or start back at 8.1 and go from there that is ok too...
Please go read the Interop Tools thread here
If you still can't figure it out you're better off posting your questions in there.

Question Anyone bricked/EDL/9008 their ROG 6?

Follow and complain here.
Let ASUS know their bootloader implementation is VERY NOT FRIENDLY to us. I've been modding my Android devices since the Android 2 era and this is the first time I encountered an UNOFFICIALLY UNRECOVERABLE state which is a HORRIBLE experience.
Me? Have played with
Samsung(S5 to S9 and Tab/Odin is a good thing)
XiaomiRedmiPoco(Main device for me today, very modder friendly and robust)
Huawei(Remember when they allow applying for BL unlock?)
Apple(LOL jailbreak from A4 SoC until iPhone X(meantime Samsung S8 looks gorgeous) lost my interest)
And various small brands or exited market big brands(honorable mention Lenovo LePhone C101. My first smart device/Android and received big community support at the good old time)
ASUS. Fix your buggy BL. Fix your policy. Release everything we need to fix OUR DEVICES of OURSELVES. Just ONE step closer to perfect.
Just imagine how stupid is this:
Everytime you want to update you operating system, your UEFI/BIOS firmware might break.
And worse, that you don't have free official resources to fix it?
And can it be worse? Yes! Your Warranty is maybe void because you may unlocked bootloader, now supposedly only ASUS service center have the file to fix it.
Ha now it's interesting. That's the era of ANTITRUST. Even Apple won't do it(Worst case DFU, easily fixable using OFFICIAL iTunes).
WT*?
yeah dude i'm bricked up rn
Paid here, paid there.
Yeah sure.
Exploit people.
Perhaps instead of ranting about asus, you could tell us what you have done exactly to brick your device, and someone might be able to help you ? can you get into fastboot at all?
EDIT: quoted content removed.
Never use this firmware, because it has not been modified, 100% of fingerprints and IMEI will be lost after use. You need to modify the firmware before you can flash it.

1\ The fastboot code in their bootloader have bugs, any CORRECT command you type can easily break bootloader then stuck you in 9008.
2\ The normal update method failed because THEIR UPDATER did do things wrong.
3\ They refuse to provide official ROM to let yourself fix it. SEND IT TO ME TO FIX IT, AND I MIGHT CHARGE YOU SOME.
....\
N\ You go talk to Apple about it because they are experts about saying YOU USED IT WRONG.
Anyone asked for help gets it for free so far.
All devs on my chat group agree at least fastboot flashable should be available on the official download page.
