Software update SWV10q changelog - T-Mobile LG G3

Anyone have any idea what this update brings to the phone? It was pushed to my phone this morning and I dont know if i should update it or not. I highly doubt that it is lollipop however i want to know if it is safe to install the OTA and not lose functionality of exposed, rooted permissions, etc...

i don't think it's android L. see changelog here.

It's the for inflight text.

Did you get a notification on your phone about update or an announcement on t mobile's website? I haven't seen any posts about update nor customer service has any knowledge of it.

I just got an OTA for the update. you can always use LG's update tool to upgrade your software version. I was actually presented with another update this morning. I have no idea what it is. it does however bring the software from swv10q to KVT49L. It is still android 4.4.2 FYI

Is the update rootable (required for SD fix)?

Is there anyway to force this update? I'm on 10M stock

I havent gotten the notice and really am in no hurry to hook it up to the pc or force update right now. Has anyone actually updated to this and aside from the minor changelog were there any changes to the bootloader or anything?

purpledrake is blocked.. not sure if root will stick thru OTA or if manual updating will be required.
bootloader has been updated with the same changes the other G3 "pre-L" updates had (nothing noticeable to end users).
downgrading is NOT blocked or anything.
oh and to OP and others.. it's 10R.. not 10Q

So if stump was blocked through last update a drake is blocked now what are the options to regain root? By bootloader was updated does that mean it is now locked and will require bump?

Taking the OTA while already being rooted may allow root to stick through the update process... I cannot confirm that yet and we will need to wait for other users to report back. Your other options are not taking the OTA at all and instead using TWRP to manually update to 10R partition by partition (flashing modem, boot and system).. OR downgrading back to 10C/10M and continue using that. There most likely will not be an updated LG root in the immediate future... no reason to waste a bug when downgrading is still possible... every single G3 and other flagship LG device has root with some firmware version. Perhaps we'll see a new android-wide 4.4.x bug that would work for all.
As for bootloader... no we don't need bump.. we have an unlocked device. Update is not related to a lock.

not that I know of. easiest way will be to just dump the 10R kdz when it comes out and flash the partitions manually in TWRP. I'll probably make a secure flashable bootloader update zip.. and I'll have have the boot, modem and all the other partitions (minus system), as always, up on my codefire folder. Someone else will have to upload/mirror system for the masses.

[Answer]Soft Brick GPE - New 4.4.2 Test

A few people have asked me how to recover their GPE from a soft brick and going back to the stock software.
Easy answer would be you should have made a back up.
I do not have GPE to test this but you can try this method.
Download boot.img and zip file from HERE
GPE_Restore_Test.zip
Maybe this works for you GPE users that need to restore. Please leave feedback if it does.
It is 4.4.2 ROM...
This worked except I can't authenticate to any wifi network.

Did you try to manually install the OTA update to 4.2.2. Install update and see if it that fixes your problem.
I tried, but it has the TWRP binary error.

Not at all but lets try to get it fully working.
---------
I am going to post a modified OTA so it can be flashed in recovery and see if it cures the wifi woes.
I think the system dump I am working with is missing some files since wifi is even acting up on GPE devices and ported ROM has no wifi working.
Give me a few and I will have modified OTA uploaded and then edit this post with a link.
Edit...
Mod_GPE-422_OTA.zip is the modified OTA. Should install properly through recovery. Please give feedback if it does install and if any previous issues are cleared up.
Thanks!
Darn. I'm sorry to inform that the 4.4.2 patch installed but the wifi is still not working.

I may have one more method. Testing first on trying to convert normal gpad to gpe. If what I am making works then it should work on gpe too. Maybe it works on GPE and not regular gpad.
Will try to make a new recovery package in a little while.
I updated original post and the file will be done in about 20 minutes. It is 10:25 my time now.
Since the op was updated is this a working method to restore?

I did receive the update, it just refuses to install because someone at LG decided that a person who root his device, is a bad person and hence is not entitled to any support from LG.

yes you are right, strange i have done it before now i couldn't, update stopped few secs after it started and after boot got same error.
it is about changed system files, not just root.
i deleted maps and g+ apps and installed them as user apks so i could hibernate them with greenify. with that setup i couldn t install updates, but when i replaced the apks to the system I was able to update once again.

Have you tried it on a device thats had the new ota update installed?
Also I thought there was a security concern with the kingo root method, something about it being from China and contains malwares that sends files back to its home server, supposedly these files are the ones necessary to clone the device.

Boot issues
Hi everyone,
I just flashed the boot.img and installed the Root_And_BusyBox.zip file via TWRP. After a reboot, my device is stuck at the boot screen (white screen with green HTC logo and red warning about development build). Apparently it finishes booting, because when I touch the screen I can feel it respond, I can even hear the unlock sound. However the screen always stays the same. Holding the power button doesn't reboot the phone either.
Any ideas how I can get this to work again?
Thank you very much!

Hi guys,
I am currently running stock rom and software version 3.28.709.5. I rooted with hassoon AIO Toolkit.
My questions are these :
1) should I unroot my device and follow the instructions to have access to OTA updates?
2) since my device version seems to be newer than recommended one by Mike, will Mikes method work with my version?
3) when people say that you can't process OTA updates when rooted and running a custom recovery, does that mean you literally cannot see any available updates under the HTC software update section? Or that you can see the update but cannot install it?
Thanks all especially Mike!

Try holding down the power button + vol. up
It's the equivalent of a battery pull, and might clear stuff up.
You'll have to hold it down for 20 seconds or so. Be patient and wait for it to reboot before letting go.
Hi xunholyx,
Thanks for your reply, I didnt know about the Vol down in this case. With my last phone it was just holding the power button.
Anyway, what I did is wait until the battery died, then I was able to get into fastboot mode again. It seems there was something wrong with the boot.img. After I flashed the stock one again it worked fine. Not sure why it didn't want to work...

I can only speak for number 3. You will see the updates, but when you try to install them it will boot into your custom recovery, then installation will fail. Only flashing the stock recovery back will let you install the OTA. After that you can flash your custom recovery again.

To be clear: I know how to install OTAs from here via stock recovery from SD-card, but I don't find a clear answer to the question above.

You have to downgrade your firmware to match the version of stock ROM you are using (4.4.3 i presume?).
If you are worrying about getting OTAs using the new software version, then it is not stock for you.
Maybe it is me who is misunderstanding. Did you manually update your firmware? Then it is probably not stock for you.
The OTA would have contained the new firmware.
If you need OTAs, you will have to S-Off and downgrade.
Unless I was misunderstanding what you were asking.
Edit: I see now by reading back to the beginning that I did misunderstand.
I think this method will still work, but I will check to make sure. BRB

When I got the phone a week ago I'm pretty sure it was already 4.4. I processed 1 OTA, which was called the HTC Eye experience, I then unlocked and rooted using a all in one toolkit. I am now still 4.4 kitkat.
I thought the software version and firmware was the same thing?
My current software version is 3.28.709.5
And for some reason I can't see anything when I use adb getvar version-main.
I didn't manually load anything except for unlocking bootloader and rooting.
I want to process OTA in the future without unrooting but Mike the OP listed a different software version.
As you answered me in a different thread you know I'm asking about how to get my version main back.

I already asked this in the original tread, but I see now there is a q&a section, so..
So, if I changed my build.prop, ota will fail, right?
Will it still fail if I replace build.prop with a copy (backup) of the original?

[OTA] [XT1064] Blur_Version.21.11.23.titan_retuaws.retuaws.en.US. zip

This OTA will upgrade your phone to Android 5.0.1 and bring your version up to 22.21.25
You will need a STOCK phone. STOCK recovery. Your version will need to be 21.11.23.
Release notes: https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/answers/prod_answer_detail/a_id/102639
Captured the OTA today from /cache using adb pull method.
My phone is the US AWS version unlocked from Motorola.
Google Drive Link: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0BwsiWWvGFo4TZ2RpV1R5LW9zd2s/view
Successfully flashed on multiple phones.
I suppose the title of the thread should say version 22.21.25, i'm not sure how to edit the thread title.
You got this ota from 22.11.6?

Wow this is the .23 ota
Yeah. This is the one everyone is needing i think.
Awesome! This is indeed the one that I've been waiting for- wanted to update these XT1064s before wrapping them up as gifts (less confusion over UI if they start out at Lollipop). Just successfully updated one of them, the rest should go smoothly as well.
The irony is that on the one I was tinkering with to try to downgrade/force the OTA now has the .17 recovery and build fingerprint and rejected this update. Not a big deal, I think I know how to recover it.
Thanks again who_ohw for the OTA!

Great, I'm glad it worked!
Can't download.. Just lists all that's in the update zip but no download option can you post another download link?

You will have to do so from a PC probably. You might be able to do so with certain browsers and request desktop version in the options.
Is this supposed to be a flashable zip? I got 'error executing updater binary in zip'. This is using TWRP 2.8.3.0
You need to be stock. Recovery, kernel, everything. No root.

Confirmed, you can use chrome on you phone, go to the link, go to the three dots in upper right for options, scroll down, make sure request desktop site is checked, refresh browser. There's some odd scaling issues but you should see another 3 dot menu INSIDE the browser, click this, there is a download button.

There are a few threads on how to do this, but this is the most recent that comes to mind. You do not need to unlock bootloader or return to stock if you are.... stock... obviously. Start at step 3.

Forgive my ignorance re: this phone, I have a nexus 6, is there a reason this ota could not be made into a flashable zip that doesn't require everything to be stock?

I don't know. I think so, but I dont have time to figure it out. Holidays and all. You might check out Kennys thread here. http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g-2014/development/rom-stock-rom-t2970427
He's made a flashable zip out of an OTA I think.
I guess if I was on 21.11.23, then I could try this. But I'm on 22.11.6 and it doesn't work. Guess I'm still playing the waiting game.
Thank you for the OTA. Was able to flash using stock recovery over 4.4.4. Took about 20-25 minutes to install and about 5 minutes to clear cache. First boot took a few more minutes. So far running great.

Possibly a daft question, but will this work on a UK XT1068? I am okay to look an idiot for asking
Happy Christmas, thanks.
